Just because I am from Los Angeles, does not mean I am high maintenance.. When I came to Oakland for a business trip, I figured, "hey I can save some money if I just stay at Motel 6. It's at a nice area facing the embarcadero and it's close by Downtown." Not bad right? Unfortunately, my first day and night was not up to par.
Again I say I am not high maintenance, but how would you like to hear someone that seems to be getting killed and strangled all night long?? It kept me up all through the night just to find out some dude next door was having intercourse with what looked to be a prostitute.. haha I laugh at it now, but at that present moment, I was fearing for that person's life and my life! You can also ask yourself, why didn't I call the police. But I have to say, fearing for your life makes time stand still and I was literally standing still by the wall not knowing what to do, include the confusion if my mind was playing tricks with me...
You can say I had a good story to tell when I got back home.. Other than that, I felt the person working the front desk was very impatient to get back to her book. I drove a good 5 hours and I feel weird when people show they are impatient.. haha, i almost feel bad and awkward.. wouldn't you?
But you're still probably wondering about that moment next door.. Ya it was all her. Quite inappropriate, but man, they need thicker walls!! Plus knowing prostitutes and god knows what else goes on, I had to sleep in regular clothes and wear shoes wherever I stepped in the room... I should have definitely paid an extra $10 to stay next door at the executive inn, way cooler!!

I lived in nearby Alameda, CA for 16 years and always thought if I had to come back for a visit and stay in a motel, that I would try this one. The location is so nice!!! The exterior is also nice. The price is really nice.
However...
We received a water front room and from the outside of the room, all seemed well. I was excited that I had found such a gem so near my relatives in Alameda. My excitement turned to disgust after I entered the room. Okay. I've stayed in plenty of Motel 6's and not all of them have been super clean. But these folks didn't even TRY!!!
I don't know how blood can find it's way that high up onto the wall, but couldn't they have at least tried to remove it? Also - a previous resident obviously had a hankering for some sunflower seeds and evidence of their feast was piled up all around the base of the bed. Yuck! And speaking of the beds. The spreads were totally from the 70's. They were faded and threadbare and bore the Motel 6 logo all over them (nice!). The beds were downright dusty, droopy, and smelled really bad and the "blanket" was more like a thin sheet of pressed paper pulp (can you say scratchy?"). The bathroom was foul and our waded up (not folded) washcloth sported someones long, black hair (none of us have that). Ugh.
Anyway - they get a star for the location and the "appearance" of being a good place to stay. I will also say that we did not encounter any b-shit from any of the other guests. The night was quiet except the pounding of my heart in my throat because I just KNEW that something unsavory was going to crawl on me!!!
So, off we went to Extended Stay America in Alameda. Paid $40 more a night and it was worth every, single dime!!

I've never stayed here but my dad does whenever he's in town. Great location on the waterfront, and you're not far from a fresh cuppa and nice food.
I have recommended it to my mom, who will stay here on HER next visit.

Great location, great price, clean reasonable room, what a view from my room facing San Antonio Fishing Pier.
Easy freeway access
Made reservation via the internet and got a room for $62.99 plus tax.

04/19/2008 Update.
Stayed once again, the room was clean, the parking lot was full with people driving in and out. Private security was present, great access to Jack London Square & Downtown. Rate was $73.99 plus tax for a total of $82.13
Have never been a guest, but I work nearby. In a blatant attempt at offsetting workplace tedium, some of us have convinced ourselves that the ladies of International Blvd have *working* lunches here--more likely that these gals are simply tourists from locales where people actually wear shorts.

It is a sad fact of life that life takes money. Motel 6 is the only accomodations around Oakland airport that costs below $70. However, expect to be very frustrated with the management there. I've had extensive dealings with them due to us having contractors. They always mess up the reservation. They also on more than one occasion had problems with their credit card machine and didn't inform us, and we saw a credit card charge weeks later. They've also changed rooms on our guests without informing them. All in all, VERY bad service. The manager especially, if there was something wrong, will not try to fix the situation before getting into a shouting match with guests. I would recommend if at all possible, do not stay there.
