This place is cool. Went there yesterday Sunday. We were out all day drinking in Sausalito and came back via ferry and we were hungry. Cruised by our place and came to yelp to search for a good sushi place.

Well, caught a cab and got there by 6 pm. The menu is pretty good. We tried the spicy tuna and WOW it was amazing. we had a crab roll some yellowtail sashimi and it was probably the freshest out there. We had other rolls that were increadible.

Here come the kicker, the prices. SHHH let me say it in a low voice, FKN CHEAP!!!  we came out of there way full for a few bucks.

We will go again, and try some Mo...

BTW, the bartender is pretty cool. Very helpful and pour a stiff one for 4 bucks...

Thanks to http://restaurant.com, I used my $25 gift certificate and saved about $15. Yayy!!

The sushi here was very delicious and extremely reasonably priced. They range from about $5 to $13. Me and my friend ordered 5 rolls and we finished the suckers. We are girls but we sure can eat and are DAMN proud of it!

My favorite sushi was this one that had lemon slices on top. It was genius. The lemon really gave a sour kick to the sushi which made it unique and super tasty.

The server was suuuuper friendly and attentive (extra tips for him!) which makes me happy because I've had FARRR too many horrilbe servers in the past. Thanks dude!!

Had dinner here with my gf and the place is really interesting. Its on 3rd street in the middle of nowhere but for us it's nearby. You first walk in and it's a very bright room with bar seating. The bar seating in the front room really isn't bar seating since the sushi is not made out front but all in the kitchen. Then there is a doorway that connects to the back room which in my opinion is much nicer. The bar also connects and becomes a full bar. If you go definitely try and sit in the back. The decor and ambiance is better. It looked like they also had a large table in a glassed off room for big parties.

So we ordered cocktails. I loved my drink. A top shelf gin drink drink infused with cucumber and a couple other things. Very tasty.  Girlfriend ordered ordered a sweet drink that was pretty tasty too. I'd definitely come here for drinks and appetizer as well.

This time instead of rolls we ordered dinner plates. I got a bento and Debbie got a donburi bowl. Both were delicious and huge portions. The teriyake was sweet but not over powering of the meat. The california rolls were tasty. The tempura was crisp, delicious and not overly oily. Simple the quality was really really good. We'll definitely be heading back one of these days.

I have been looking for sushi joint to satisfy my sushi craving for 2 months now since I moved to SF and I stumbled upon this place. Because of the great reviews, I decided to try it.

My 2 friends and I walked in and there were only 5 people in the restaurant but it was only 6PM so thinking it was little early. The random corner restaurant was very clean and it had the heater on which was nice because it was so freaking cold tonight.

We started off with 4 rolls, thinking they were going to BIG rolls and cheap, but they were still avg $11 each. We got them and they were so smalllll! We finished all of it and had to order another one and we were still not full. It came out to be about $75 total.

Unless I am really spoiled from San Diego sushi, this place is NOT as cheap as everybody is talking about and the rolls are so small. I couldn't even see the spicy tuna in the roll with avocado and crab.

I need my sushi fix NOW and this was not the place to get it!

albacore fans will love it!: Okay rolls. Great nigiri and sashimi. I love the albacore here. Unfortunately, the salmon is of the smoked variety. The other food is great too. Nice katsu, karaage, etc. They have a brilliant seared ahi salad. The owner is a lovely man and makes a point to thank you for going to his restaurant. If you get to know him well then sake shots are the norm. Moshi Moshi is a great, homey place that nigiri/sashimi fans will love.

I found out about this place through http://restaurant.com.  I'm glad I did.   It's in the middle of no where.  From the outside, it doesn't look great.  However, it looks really nice inside.  The front of the restaurant looks fairly modern, with the back more like a bar.

The menu has a good selection.  I ordered the large moshi combo and my wife ordered the haru sushi combo.  I love this place for making california rolls with real crab and no mayo (the way it's supposed to be).  The fish was fresh and the rolls tasty.

The people working there are friendly and helpful as well.  They re-filled our tea 3 times without us asking!  I would definitely come back here.

Moshi is my favorite sushi restaurant in the city. Their rolls are great and their sashimi is always delicious. The staff are super friendly. My waitress the other night laughed when I got excited about the chocolate Gelato for desert and told me she also worked at Three Twins ice cream in the Lower Haight... and I should come by for their free ice cream day.

My favorite things to order are the Geisha (spicy tuna) Futo Krispy (Avacado, Sake, Maguro, Hamachi) and Escalar Sashimi. If you are a fan of Sashimi try the chefs choice it's how I discovered Escalar, the best buttery fish ever. Moshi is my favorite Sushi Restaurant. (Period) I have yet to ever have better sushi  or more friendly staff anywhere. I love the crazy owner who comes out and thanks people for eating... I also love that I've seen the mythbusters here more than once.. they must film nearby.  I brought my boss here and he didn't believe me and I was so happy to see Adam sitting at the next table eating Gyoza!

We stumbled upon this spot by accident, just to kill some time before heading to Kelly's Mission Rock for 2nd Sunday last weekend and to meet one of my friend's friend. Upon arriving, I was actually impressed how sketchy the place looked from the outside but as soon as we walked in, it took me by surprise. Nice ambiance and decor, it screamed: "Don't judge a book by its cover."

The three of us were thirsty and kicked it at the bar. We started with one bottle of sake and left pounding three One Thousand Years sake bottles later.

I wanted something to snack on and asked for edamame. I'm deducting 1 star for the seemingly odd and untimely wait for it -- it took 15-20 minutes to arrive. Who knows when we'll be back to try their food.

I used to live right around the corner from here, so have dined here quite a few times...

The decor inside is clean, minimal and cute...there is also an outdoor patio (surprise!) and a back room with flat screens which really come in handy for the men during football season.

The owner is quite a character...he definitely puts on a show when he comes to  your table.

I really like their calamari b/c it has huge bits of onions and peppers battered, too, so you're not just straight squiddin' it.

Their rolls are good, too...and the price is pretty reasonable.

What a great find!  My waiter, George, sat down with me to help me decide what to order from the fab pear bev to the fresh trout and white tuna.  You'd never expect the contemporary interior from the facade.

Food was great; service superior, ambiance very good.  Definitely in the top tier of fave local hang outs!

Average food, charge extra for splitting the check.

Returned here for the 2nd time, after initially viewing this place as an cute tucked away Japanese joint with a reasonably priced (for sushi) albeit average menu.

I remain unimpressed with both the food and the service. The miso soup tastes like it was made with chlorinated water. My friend was brought the wrong dish (she ordered Chicken Karaage and was brought Chicken Teriyaki).  We told the server, but no attempt was made to correct the mistake so we let it slide.

Next it became too loud to concentrate.  It's a little too kid-friendly here.  Why people would bring a 1-week old crying newborn and whining 2 year old to eat Japanese is beyond me.  May have been an okay dinner otherwise, but when we tried to split the check with 2 credit cards they wanted to charge us extra (our total bill was around $60 for 2 people).  Not cool Moshi Moshi, not cool at all.   And really not worth the extra hassle.

This place has potential but they need to step up the service.  Best thing they have going is the Hitachino Nest White Ale, which is lovely beer and difficult to find.

I've been a big fan of Moshi's for a long time but haven't been there in quite awhile.  Well they're still holding it down and have actually gotten better.  They're specials are tasty and different from other Sushi Resto's.  I ate there last night and had some really good small plates.  Lamb chops - bbq'ed perfection! Aparagus - tasty & healthy.  Toro - fresh like hell yo!! I always get the Moshi wings and used to have major cravings for them..they're still grubbing.  One of the other great highlights of Moshi's is Mitz the owner.  If you've been, you know how cool this guys is.  Makes you feel at home and makes you feel drunk too! He's a great guy to talk & have a drink with.  All their staff is great.  The place got a make over too and it looks very stylie! Keep it up Moshi's...you some bad ass cats!

This place is close to were we live so we thought we'd give it a try.
I came here about a month ago with the hubby and I got sick afterwards-VERY unpleasant.
We had 4 rolls and they were ok.  geisha (2), fire lizard, & spider.
The drinks were good and the service was ok.
When we came the place was quite empty there were about 10 people.

Even though I got sick the hubby thought the sushi was good so I wanted to be fair and give it 2 stars.

I think it's pretty sad if you need to put soy sauce in your miso soup to make it taste better.  Such is the case at Moshi Moshi.

I had very high hopes for this sushi place just around the corner from our loft at the Dogpatch.  My partner dined here a week before and came back with mixed reviews about the place saying that the 5-spice chicken bento box tasted like it didn't have any spice at all.  This I confirmed last night when I orderd an oyako don: sauteed chicken, egg, shitake and onions served donburi.  The chicken was not flavorful at all.  It tasted like it was boiled first and then sauteed with the other ingredients.  It was truly a disappointment.

I'll probably give it another try since my partner raved about his sushi last night.  But I was not really impressed.

Moshi Moshi is a great Japanese restaurant in SF!  The sushi is fresh and they have an extensive menu. The appetizers are awesome! You can share a bunch of appetizers for a meal. The asparagus wrapped beef and tempura scallops were great! The ambiance is nice and a great place to sit at the bar or good with a group of friends.

I don't want to be too harsh, but I will not return. HOWEVER! I will give them a 4star rating for the Unagi Dunburi, it was excellent. Now... $2.50 for and Iced tea (Lipton at that) PLEASE thats highway robbery... The pork chops were not seasoned well at all neither was the teriyaki chicken.
Its too much HIT & MISS.
Well real talk is you have to be your own judge, but for me I am totally unimpressed...

One of the great SF sushi joints. Take special note to daytime call-in orders...Orders are filled at rapid-fire speed, which is appreciated when you can't be away from the office for long. Service is attentive and personable. Yep, it's just a great place...

Three (and a half) stars for the food, and one more for the atmosphere. Moshi Moshi is fun. Good lighting, lots of seating, a little separate bar and patio seating. The owner makes the rounds and is funny and friendly. I like it here.

The portions here are huge! I found that pretty unusual for Japanese food. The seared Ahi tuna salad is fantastic. Loaded with liberal cuts of tuna, peppers, avocado. The teriyaki looked pretty standard. I also had the Hamachi Nigiri. I have a feeling this place really excels at their sushi. The yellowtail was buttery and well cut. I took Nobu K.'s advice and ate them all in one bite instead of trying to bite it in half gaijin style.

This may not be the pinnacle of Japanese cuisine but its a fun restaurant for a quick bite or a cocktail. I'll most definitely be back

Moshi Moshi was a great experience from start to finish. We went there to celebrate my husbands birthday with some friends and we all loved it!
The restaurant is stylish and comfortable. They have a small, but nice bar to have a drink before dinner.
We moved into the restaurant and were seated immediately on a Sat nite. Most of our party shared sushi, and everyone thought it was really fresh, tasty fish. I am not a big fan of raw fish, so I went with a combo plate of beef teriyaki, gyoza and potato croquettes, each item was delicious!
Service was also perfect!
We really enjoyed our experience at Moshi Moshi and will be back!

Moshi Moshi has a nice vibe although I have yet to be seated in the front area.  They always shuffle me to the back room.  What is up with that?

I ordered the porkchop salad because I wanted to avoid the rice, tempura thing that will put me right to sleep after lunch.  The salad was HUGE.  I certainly didn't expect that.  I didn't like the salad dressing.  It looked a little bit like Elmer's glue so I avoided that.  The pork was grilled nicely and there were tasty bits of avocado.

I have yet to discover a dish that I really like here.

Ok, I'm not a sushi connoisseur, but don't let that dissuade you from my review!

I've had really good experiences here. I often go for lunch, since it's close to where I work. They have really nice bento boxes for lunch- which fill me up and aren't going to bust my bank account. I think everything is really tasty and fresh. Mostly I get the bento box because it's such a good deal, but I've had a few rolls and they're quite good as well.

It's a cute place and the servers are friendly. The soup is pretty good and always gets me excited about my meal. Sometimes it's takes a little while to get service, but it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination. I'll definitely be going back for another meal!

I'd really like to try them for dinner one day!

not sure how i heard about moshi moshi, but we decided to try it out.  i think the overall feeling was that the food is good, but it's hard to be very special in a place like san francisco for sushi these days.  service was great.  but i guess the location is a bit out of the way for us to want to go back again and again.  the decor is really nice, so i would recommend it for someone who's asking someone out on a date...  i hope you don't take this rating as a negative, we did enjoy it and totally recommend giving it a try.

Went here recently with a group of friends on a rainy night. The best thing about this place by far was the people working here--they were very cool and friendly.

The food wasn't too bad. Most of us had noodle dishes. I also had the seaweed salad which was good. The problem was that at least three of us felt ill later that night and were a little off digestion-wise the next morning...which was a little scary.

I'd like to go back sometime because I loved the atmosphere and the service but I have definitely had better Japanese food elsewhere.

Moshi Moshi if you're listening Kore kara ganbatte kudasai!

Moshi Moshi is a nice neighborhood spot.  Thats it, no better, no worse.
The staff is competent, the prices resonable, the food was satisfying.
There was nothing bad, but nothing outstanding.  I can't really remember anything on the menu striking me with any impact.  But they are very capable.
As a spot around the block, this is perfect.  You could be comfortable strolling in on a sunday.
As a destination, it is a little ho-hum.  I wouldn't bring out of towners or gather a group here for a big night.
Truly a 3 star venue.

We knew it wasn't going to be amazing sushi, but more of a neighborhood, casual spot. That said, a big disappointment. Our server was absent, and the rolls were not well made. We steered clear of the sashimi based on other reviews.  All told we spent $90 for bad sushi, bad sake and cheap beer. Definitely not worth it.

Moshi Moshi is good if you're craving quick and decent rolls/teriyaki. The Boyfriend and I were headed toward Hard Knox Cafe when we passed Moshi Moshi and I decided I wanted some Japanese instead. The place is pretty modern with mood lighting and a bar in the corner. The Boyfriend and I ordered korotke (the deep fried Japanese version of a croquette), salmon teriyaki and the Golden Dragon (I think) roll (which had shrimp tempura, avocado and crab meat). One of my favorite things was how they bring out a cup of steaming soup. It was delicious and welcome, considering SF was getting about 4 inches of rain that day. The food was pretty good and the portions were large so you get good bang for your buck.

Went last night with my husband. Had a sushi craving, but didn't feel like making the drive out to Sushi Bistro, so we decided to try a place closer to our hood (SOMA).

Service: SLOOWW. It took a good ten minutes for someone to even bring us menus (we sat at the bar), and it didn't get any faster after that.

Menu Selection: In terms of rolls you have a choice of a spicy tuna roll, california roll, spicy tuna roll with something on top, california roll with something on top, tempura spicy tuna roll, or tempura california roll.

Apps: We had the spicy poki salad and edamame. Salad was super small for $8 - for $1 more you can get twice the size and five times the flavor at Sushi Bistro. The spicy tuna was gross, bad quality tuna drenched in spicy sauce. The edamame was good, probably the best thing about the whole meal, but how hard is it to serve good edamame? Does it even require any work?

Main Course: 3 rolls (E Bay, New Moon, Rainbow) and a couple pieces of nigiri. Nigiri didn't look so fresh. And had we known about the quality of the spicy tuna we wouldn't have done the E Bay. All you could taste is the spicy sauce. The rainbow roll also seemed sketchy. The crab meat inside was grey and tasted foul.

Not going back. Just thankful my husband and I haven't gotten sick.

The search continues for a decent, reasonably priced sushi place in near SOMA. If you know of a hidden gem please let me know.

My boyfriend and I just came came from celebrating a friend's birthday here. There were 20 of us, and we reserved a private room.

First off, large parties can frequently be a mess, but this was not the case at Moshi Moshi. We all got our food at more or less the same time, and there was never a wait to get drinks. Well done.

I'm not generally a big fan of sushi, so I tend to go for the non raw-fish items. I ordered a mixed plate with tempura and other Japanese-for-beginners choices, and it was all really tasty. My boyfriend and just about everyone else in our group had sushi, and it all looked beautiful and fresh. Boyfriend said his was "thumbs ups!"

The restaurant as a cool laid back vibe, stylish, but not intimidatingly trendy.

The miso soup tasted like dirty dishwater. I couldn't drink it even though I tried.

They served us chicken broth right when we sat down. Thanks for not telling vegetarians that you're serving meat products. Chicken broth? Is that a Japanese thing?

The sushi didn't seem very fresh.

The green tea was watered down.

The place seemed dirty.

I thought I would only give restaurants one star if there were things crawling the food, but I just can't bring myself to give them any more stars.

Oh, and considering how the food wasn't very fresh, the food seemed expensive for the quality.

Don't come here.

It's too bad too.... was my birthday lunch! Oh well!

This is one of the 2 places that has withstood my husbands 2-time test.

What is the 2-time test?

Its where you go back to a restaurant to find that yes it was as good as the first time you ate there and no you weren't
1. Dreaming (or romanticising)
2.drunk when you first ate there (lapse of judgement)

The sushi was awesome, fresh and very very reasonably priced. The owner actually stopped by the table... I am a sucker for personalized service. The wait staff was friendly and prompt in getting our food. I also loved the ambiance, very casual and chilled out.

All in the bill was less than $50 for sushi. starters and sake. That itself warrants a trip back in my opinion!

We arrived at 6:45 on a Sunday night and the place was empty. We basically had the restaurant to us. The staff is very friendly and the food is decent here. Not super amazing Japanese food, but good enough food. The rolls are ok, but not super inventive. The walu nigiri was good. The fried calamari, fried scallops and croquette were yummy. We had the sashimi combo and the salmon did not seem very fresh. The cocktails were good, I would recommend the mango flavored one.

Coming here a second time I had a doubly good time.  Came in well before closing time this go around and had a host of good sushi and some great fried chicken.

Service was a little better but still a little slow.  I think this is kind of standard when you come here so it is better to expecting it as your entire experience will be better.

2.5 Stars actually. Would definitely give it another try but last night sucked a fat one. Was craving a sushi fix at a lower price and, since i live on Potrero Hill, this placed seemed right. They were super duper busy which is why I'm sparing them a star.

Had two huge parties going on so it took a minute to get seated. The picture of the seared Ahi on here is one of the reasons I went. I ordered that, and the Super Duper Loooove Roll with a few other things.

I Super Duper Looooove roll is frikin amazing!

A couple things really pissed me off. They cut the Ahi into pieces to save time since they were so busy. Can u imagine! It was rather dry, but it was still Ahi. The server seemed lost like she wasn't used to being a server, a nice girl none-the-less. BUT, she failed miserably not letting us know any of the specials. After I was done and leaving I noticed them on the whiteboard (I really luv specials).

I'll give it another try and give you fine folks reading this a follow-up review!

This is an interesting building, constructed in 3 stages of insideness: main dining room, covered porch, slightly less covered porch.  Very cute inside, and attracts a hip crowd, I'm told (peaceful and nearly empty near closing time on a Tuesday).  Perfect for those hot-to-chilly nights on the East Side.

4 of us put forth a great, state-of-calorie-depletion effort to consume:
-Big bowl of edamame - a little undercooked for my taste but fresh
-Carmel roll: total madness of yum.  That's a lotta roll.
-Lobster roll: questionably cheap, unquestionably tasty
-Large Moshi Combo: Lots of food!  Less than intriguing selections for the nigiri but made our lives a lot easier come billing time.

And drank 2 pitchers of Kirin

And spent about $26 apiece.  A GREAT deal for sushi of this quality in the city.

The 5th among us had udon, which I did not care for, and which seemed way overpriced.  Come to think of it, their miso* was a little off, too.  Strange aftertaste.  So skip the soup for the optimal experience here.

Service was friendly and helpful.

They have toro (a little pricey), so I'll be back for that when I'm not ravenous.  The menu is extensive and very veggie friendly for those non-pescatarians among you.  The sushi was mid-high quality and the cuts of fish were big.

If I were you, I'd check out this dog patch joint before UCSF builds a giant hospital accross the street**.  My med. student friend lives down the street and we will definitely be back.

*Oh, and how's this for strange - the $35 large combo came with ONE bowl of miso.  Is this like a communal cup we're supposed to pass around?  Because we did, thanksmuch.
**Paradoxically, with new hospitals tend to come new fast food joints, especially when you're in the middle of nowhere, like out here.  I like how the neighborhood's shaping up and hope it doesn't loose any of it's industrial wasteland hipness, though that's a tall order.

One star for the crappy food that I had here.

I usually confront with the people working at the establishment when something about product or service is terribly wrong, but when I dined in here, I did not even let them know the food was sub commercial.

This is actually an Asian-AMERICAN restaurant operated under semi Japanese settings. They don't care to meet the Japanese standard or to be labeled with authenticity verification. Why bothers complaining while innoncent travellers from Midwest think everything's fine.

If you care less about food, and need an oriental joint made for gaijin-san to feel relaxed, this place could be it.

Moshi Moshi- (Japanese), noun

Def 1-   used as a greeting when you answer the telephone
Def 2-   used to show that you disagree or are unsatisfied.

Great food, rolls were a bit small, but really good. Service was excellent. Nice mellow chill vibe.

You should go to http://Restaurant.com and buy a $25 gift certificate for $10 or less when they have promotion codes every couple weeks. The gift certificates don't expire in California, so you're good.

This is my neighborhood sushi joint. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. Moshi is there most nights and he always makes the time to go around and greet everyone. It could get expensive, but you can save a lot of cash by ordering their bento boxes. You can choose from a variety of things.
Try the mango and scallop roll...it's fabulous.
