Best Burger in the city--Hands Down.  Order yours medium rare and you won't be disappointed with the meat eaters dream they whip up.

Fresh quality ingredients, friendly staff and a casual no frills diner atmosphere.

I am  usually weary of 'burger' restaurants because I always end up being disappointed, but not this time.

The burger patties are made from freshly ground beef! Yes, they grind them right in from of you! I had the French hamburger, a burger patty stuffed with blue cheese, and topped with caramelized onions cooked over a charcoal grill - it was delicious.
The fries? The fries were freshly cut, light and crispy - tasty.

On top of the good food, the staff was friendly. I can't wait to try their breakfast. I will definitely return with my army of foodies!

I recently stumbled onto Mo's Grill while wandering the streets of North Beach in search of good eats.

Mo's is a cute little dinner with a 3 Stooges theme; once I saw that, how could this place disappoint??

We were seated fairly quick and the joint was packed. I ordered the Smoked Salmon on Toasted Bagel with came with cream cheese, garlic, cucumber and avocado.

My main problem with the dish was that the smoked salmon was served in big hunks and a bit difficult to eat and chew in conjunction with the bagel. The avocado was a bit unripe (which could happen at any restaurant).

I ended up eating each part of the dish separately. I have to say, I didn't really enjoy it but I ate it since I was starving!

M had the Denver Omelette and said it was alright. It was a little oily but you expect that at a diner-type restaurant. Other diners were already onto burgers which looked pretty good from my vantage point.

Would I go back and try a burger? Maybe, if I was in the area again and didn't already have a particular place in mind. My food was just okay. That being said, the burgers did look good - maybe try those over the bagels or omelettes first!

I owe Mo's an apology.  I was a fool Mo(s), and I'm sorry...

not TOO long ago, I wrote a review for curly's down the street proclaiming them to be the best breakfast (mama's excluded) in north beach.  how wrong could I be!?!?

since that ever so contraversial review, I went back to curly's, then once again to Mo's, and there's really no comparison.  So here we go:

Mo's, is hands down the best breakfast in North beach, and if you factor in waiting time it beats Mama's too.

eggs: whether it's a delicious mexican omlette, or yoru sticking with some simple scrambled eggs, mo's is perfect.  Not over cooked not too soggy, the eggs leave you begging for more.

potatoes: the homefries here are legendary.  Delicious, perfectly seasoned, i throw some hot sauce and ketchup on before diving in with a fervor.

toast: Ok, so i'ts hard to mess up toast, but the JAM they have at mo's is again perfect.  Sweet, succulent and... well jammy.. it adds the perfect sweet twist to an otherwise savory meal

meat: bacon? check. sausage? check. porkchop? yeah... tha'ts right.  Even the pork chop and the steak here are incredible.  i never thought i'd get eggs and a porkchop... but give it a try!  you'll be happily surprised.

Mo's, after all the years of service you gave me (2)... I dared forsake you.  But no more.

GO MO's GO!

I came here in the middle of the afternoon so it was nice and quiet therefore the service was great. I have a feeling though that even if it was busy the waitress would have been able to do a great job just because she had a good demeanor to her. The restaurant reminds me of a coffee shop and has plenty of pictures of Larry, Curly and Mo on the walls. I assume the owner has an infatuation with the old show or is in fact named Mo, but probably both are true.

I took a seat at the counter and had a beautiful view of the dirty dishes, sink and garbage can. I'd like to romanticize about it but this was the truth. On the upside they have at least eight bottled beers available and did I mention the waitress was great.

I ordered a burger with blue cheese caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms. I requested it be cooked medium but it was pink and bloody on the inside. I'd almost say cold but not quite. If I go back I'll be sure to ask for it burnt to a crisp then maybe they will understand that blood is bad in a burger. The thin cut fries that came with the burger were the best part of the meal and I feel bad about requesting mayonnaise to drown them in but what's done is done. These fries were great.

What is a make or break deal is that for some reason they feel in necessary to hide the city health inspection. For most people they may forget, I don't. I looked it up and it's 92. And one violation for Foods not separated or protected and this bugs me a little as the meat I was served was almost raw. The three stars is for the bloody burger.

I usually have a tough time finding a breakfast spot on yelp.  People have such different expectations for the morning routine, its almost impossible to find a review that exactly caters to your needs.  That being said, I'll find a place and go in with low expectations due to this.

So... in steps Mo's grill.  I read the reviews, and the rave hamburger reviews put it on my radar for a potential lunch spot.  I was actually trying to find a decent breakfast spot with wifi, but when I walked by Mo's a patron came out and saw me and just said 'Its good.  Come here all the time'.  Thank you, anonymous Mo's customer for the referral.  This breakfast was AWESOME.

Ended up deciding on a simple eggs and bacon dish.  About 1 minute after I ordered, I saw a fruit bowl come out (actually, more of a delectable fruit mountain) and had to change the order.  My girlfriend got some standard scrambled eggs, with the sausage.  So upon arrival, swapped around a few ingredients and we were both left with a heaping plate full of delicious options.  The home fries?  So good.  Must be the lava rocks that make em so tasty.  Bacon, sausage?  Done just right.  The biggest surprises came with the standard scrambled eggs, and the fruit bowl.  These scrambled eggs just were incredible.  I don't know how, don't know why.  I just know.  As for the fruit bowl, I don't know where to start.  Lets just say that I couldn't even see a piece of melon or cantaloupe when it arrived.  Strawberries, mangos, blackberries, raspberries, kiwis... so good.  I haven't even sampled the pork chop, pancakes, or many other things that I eyed, but I will.

I've heard great things about Mo's....maybe this is one of those places where it depends what you order. My friends seemed to be pleased with the eggs benedict on the menu. I however, was feeling hungover sooo i was in the mood for something heavy and greasy. I ordered the "best burger". But when our waitress asked me how i wanted my patty cooked i said "medium".....i didn't know that medium was the new raw!!! way raw! like bloody raw! I did appreciate however that the patties were made with fresh ground beef...this is for sure a plus. If  you are in the mood for a burger I recommend you specifically ask that your patty is cooked "well done" otherwise your going to end up with a pool of blood on your plate. no bueno!

Mo's is a really cute retro diner. They serve a variety of gigantic burgers for an average of 9 bucks or so.
I ordered a chicken Alpine burger that day which has gruyer cheese (yum) and mushrooms. It came on a huuuge patty with loads of fries that could definitely be shared between two people and it was!  The chicken was ok but my buds were off that day ( I was sick ) so I can't really judge.

The bf ordered a burger. Cheeseburger to be exact and he loved it. Scarfed it down within a few minutes. We also shared a vanilla shake which was very yummy and they bring you the extra on the side!  I love that.

Mo's is small but the service is great. You can also watch your burgers being cooked on a grill from your seat. They reel you into the restaurant that way because the grill is also positioned by a gigantic window. Good thinking Mo's.

Another great spot for a burger in the city. Angus beef, cooked to medium rare perfection and smothered in Gruyere cheese, don't foget the applewood smoked bacon...mmmmm! Enough shoestring fries to share, which I did thankfully.

Thank you Mo's, I heart you!

OMFG...7 oz of center cut, Angus beef, loaded with bleu cheese, shrooms, and caramelized onions? This is what makes life beautiful! You'd best believe I ate the whole thing...And they don't skimp on the goods!

And the shoe string fries? To die for!

Word to wise--their "rare" means cold on the inside, medium rare will stain a freshly bitten bun pink, but have no fear--order the medium and you're good to go!

I can't wait to go back. They also have a "French" burger that's STUFFED with goat cheese that explodes in your mouth on first bite...oh yes, and topped with caramelized onions.

What are you waiting for? GO! GO! GO!

Mo's came highly recommended -- but I just don't think there was anything special. The burgers weren't as rich as what you get at Barney's, they weren't as backyard-perfect as what you get at Zeitgeist, and the chocolate malt didn't deliver like Val's. Overall, good, but didn't blow me away.

This place is awesome. It feels like a small hole in the wall so it's easy to miss, but I'll never walk past this place again. The burgers are clutch & the brunch menu is delish! Definitely get the potatoes - they're amazing.
Prices are good, service is standard, & all in all, you'll walk away happy.

After a late night of doing whatever i was doing :), me and my group were looking around for a place to eat. ANYTHING! lol. dude i was freakin starving. lol

one person from our group asked someone on the street where a good place to eat was, and she told us golden boy pizza which sold pizza for like 2 dollars something?! so we rushed over there to find that there was like a 300 people line. so with a sad heart, we left to find other food...

THEN LO AND BEHOLD. we see mo's grill! WOW. havent had a hamburger in a while! we all go in. we're a big group. like 10-12? but like we ewre all seated. it was pretty empty for a friday night but who cares. we were freakin hungry.

one of our guys said "hi im sam* whats your name?" and the waitress just freakin just left him hanging. i mean. like . i know you might think thats wierd or wahtever but like in all honesty, he was gonna ask what the best thing on the menu was. which he did ask when she came back from whatever she was doing. i couldnt really understnad her. but i pretended to ahha. lol. sorry but taht deserved a minus star. that was kind of mean. i mean not EVERYONE that walks through the doors gonna hit on you. hahah

BUT food was delicious. ALL the burgers came with a fries and a delicious (seemed like homemade) bun and meat that tasted like no other! so juicy and delicious! i had a mushroom burger. WHOOEE!! TAHT WAS DELISIOUS SO JUICY AND JUST MADE ME SALIVATE WHILE I WAS WRITING THIS REVIEW. ohh it was beautiful. it had grilled mushrooms and grilled onions and i asked for bleu cheese. WHICH WAS FREAKIN DELICOUS! i couldnt control my month when i was eating and i kept on like having food orgasm. lol. ahhaha. ew. thats a wierd combiinations. hahah lol. BUT DUDE it was great! everyone else liked their stuff. :)

Another thing. prices. but it hink it was pretty fair, it being really quality meat and homemade buns with impeccable water service. 8-9 dolalrs a burger sounds good to me if it was Mo's kind of burger :)

Came here on a rave recommendation but was a little disappointed, here's why:
1. Breakfast came with bacon that was so overcooked it was practically hard
2. Both of our juice cups had unwelcome food crumbs

Otherwise it was a cute, small place that might do a better lunch than breakfast

Mo's no longer takes credit/debit cards effective 01/01/10.  Cash only, but don't fret, you can pay a fee to use the newly-installed ATM.  I don't believe in screwing the customers, so I won't be going back even though I've been a regular customer for years.  If you think $2.50 is a lot to add fries to your $9.00 burger, you'll love the new no-credit card policy.  If you want to pay cash, you'll do better at Burgermeister, which is only a couple of blocks away on Columbus.

By far the Best Burger place I've found in North Beach!

I highly recommend the milkshakes!  Oh dear God, they make me feel like I'm 5 again.  It's nice to know that a place like this exist in North Beach and it's decently priced as well.

If you've never been, I recommend going, right now.

When I'm hungover, I often get it in my mind that if I just eat __ I will be better. Sometimes it's a smoothie or sometimes a burrito, but a lot of the time it's a BLT from Mo's. It's a few blocks from my apartment and my roomie and I will walk down and place an order to go. I love watching the line cooks make it and about a million other things at the same time.
The bacon they use is not too thick and not too thin and perfectly crispy. The bread is a really toasty, so toasted that it usually cuts up the roof of my mouth, but I don't mind, it's worth the pain. And when you add in beefsteak tomatoes sliced thick, with a big leaf of romaine and smother it in mayo mmmmm. So delicous! I'm always still hung over after I eat it, but at least I am full.

A good, solid tasty burger served with a smile.  Mo's used to be my go-to place for a quick dinner when I lived a quarter-block away, now it's more a treat, but a good treat.  Whether you like a cheeseburger, a mushroom burger, a fancy burger with goat cheese stuffed inside or a bleu cheese burger, you are in luck.  All burgers are cooked over volcanic rock (I'm not sure what difference that makes in the taste) on a grill at the front of the restaurant.

The restaurant itself is nothing to get excited about, tables in a big white room with a counter and the aforementioned grill in the window.  But what Mo's lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in taste.

And the sides are tremendous--a huge pile of fries.  The shakes are good, too, I usually go for the chocolate malt, which is a bit more than the shake,  but worth it.

And I've rarely had to wait for a table, another plus.

The breakfasts at Mo's are filling and a great alternative when the line at Mama's is too long.

When I'm feeling poor, hungry, hungover, or a mixture of the three (usually ever Sunday) I head over to Mo's and allow them to make my life a little more easier to live.

I highly recommend ordering an egg dish for brunch: the portions are enormous, the ingredients fantastic, and it will arrive promptly, fresh off the griddle. I would recommend subbing out the potatoes for the fruit cup, as their fruit is always outstanding - fresh, sweet, and a great selection. The pancakes and french toast are also excellence, and the portions large enough to tide you over to dinnertime with leftovers for the following morning.

Mo's has good service, it's relatively easy to get a table for 2-4 people for brunch, it's DIRT CHEAP for the portions they offer, and they have bottomless coffees. Can't wait to go back for dinner and try a burger.

The mushroom burger was definitely delicious although I'd suggest getting it without the mayo. I got a Burger and fries for $12.

It's a cool little diner by broadway. The staff was friendly and there was a counter to sit at if you go alone. The food came pretty quickly.  The patrons were friendly too so there was no problem making conversation with people. They also have a TV going with sports on it.

Overall, it was a good place. I'll be back.

Here is the deal.

Can not beat the Tex Mex Burger. This joint has great big juicy hamburgers and fantastic service. They got a lot of three stooges memorabilia inside too- I guess that's why they call it Mo's.

Beware:
Cash only.

Go here. DO NOT go to Burgermeister if you are trying to decide between the two.

I was really happy with the service and food. The oj was solid but lacked pulp... The eggs benedict was perfect but I think there was cream somewhere in there. I'm lactose in tolerant, that's why it matters to me.

We ended up here because we attempted to goto Mama's; I was very happy with our back-up game time choice.

Solid b-fast on a Sunday. Will come back again soon to try the pancakes and french toast.

When I use to lived in North Beach, I would to come here maybe twice a month to get my favorite Bleu Cheese Hamburger as a Friday night treat for a long week at work.

Fast forward to 3 years later, I went here with my partner after he got his 2nd tattoo in North Beach and I was craving a burger.  So I suggest Mo's since I haven't taken him here for burgers here yet.   So we walk in and was immediately seated.   He and I ordered the same Bleu Cheese burger, medium rare and some shakes to complete our experience.   Our food  came quickly and I bit into my burger.  I was in burger heaven, the burger is still the same quality after all these years, great moistness, the pugent bleu cheese melting into the burger....so freaking good!  I still compare my burgers to this place.    It's also great to see them making the patties in front you. Nothing hidden from view.

The service is still top-notced here, I recognized the waitress there and was glad to see she is still there.

If you never a decent flame grill hamburger yet in SF.  Come here.

Shenanigans!  I have been robbed... slapped... stuck in both eyes with a pair of forked fingers.  We all know, on a primordial level, that Heinz Ketchup is the hallmark of the great American diner.  Hunt's Catsup is the false devil... the RC-Cola of tomato paste... the Boston of New York.  As a connoisseur (and stockholder) of HNZ I beamed upon entering Mo's and seeing Heinz bottles everywhere.  This is manna.

So imagine my shock when I should happen to see nothing more than the pretty waitress traipse herself behind the counter and surreptitiously start refilling all the Heinz bottles, from a can of HUNTS.  A giant can so big it needed the little triangle holes punched in the top.

In a just world this would be treason.  I don't care how perfectly grilled your burger's be.  How crisp and hot the cut fries are served.  How thick and creamy your milkshakes are whipped.  Do not ever, ever, ever call your Hunt's Heinz.

Mo's & Big Mouth are in a constant battle for the #1 spot in my red-blooded American heart that's reserved for Best Good-Ol'-Fashioned American burger, at least in SF.  True, I get to Big Mouth more often because it's walkable, but Mo's is the traditional pre-SF fireworks burger spot, and yesterday I was reminded anew why I love it so much.

HUGE patties of high-quality beef cooked precisely to order, and tons of different toppings options.  Now, I will say that the fries are rather ordinary (and cost extra), but as I don't much care for fries in general, I don't hold that against them.  (You can also get seafood chowder or cole slaw as a side if you want.)  I'm a big a fan of the California burger (Jack with avocado), but you can also order creations like the Tex Mex burger, the BBQ burger, a grilled chicken burger, or a veggie burger.

Finally, the milkshakes.  LOVE the milkshakes.  What can you really say about homemade milkshakes, except that if you love good ones, you'll love these.  (A quarter extra will get you malt.)  The place isn't huge (maybe 10 or so tables), but there are seats at the bar, if you want the full-on, old timey diner experience.

My eating decisions on my trip to San Fran were entirely based off Yelp reviews, I must admit. Craving burgers, Mo's Grill came up as a result and it was only a few blocks from me.

I was here midday during the week and the place was empty. Empty restaurants seem a bit dubious if you ask me, but Yelp hasn't failed me yet. The waitress was lovely and the menu had a great variety of burger styles. I kept it pretty basic and after a few minutes, our food was ready.

Whoa. I don't know who Mo is, but he knows what the hell he's doing. My burger was juicy and tasty as heck. I understand they use grass-fed beef, which is slightly more expensive, but -absolutely- worth it. You can taste the difference in the quality of the meat and I was floored by the deliciousness entering my mouth. The fries were awesome, too, and generously portioned.

Service was friendly and great, cleanliness was awesome. I saw some guy deep cleaning and scrubbing the tops of the refrigerators. Impressive. And the food was more than satisfying.

If I wasn't so full, I would have gotten a milkshake since I hear they're awesome. Alas, that'll have to wait until my next visit to Mo's because that great meal convinced me to come back.

Mo's burgers are huge and I really enjoy their special mayo that they put on their burgers. Try the Best Burger with Fries for your first experience. Forget the salads - it is after all a burger joint.

Love the diner decor and staff has been there a long time. They have Milkshakes and Malts too!

I did spy Chicken Pita and Meatloaf dinners on their menu so we'll have to see if they do those well in addition to their burgers.

Walking around the area again one day, my lady and I wanted to come here for a burger..but then I noticed how good the breakfast looked so we got that instead..

I got the blueberry pancakes..and she got the french toast and we got a small plate of bacon.. OMG huge portions!!!

The blueberry pancakes were really good!! plenty of boooberries, nice and crisp outside but nice and fluffy inside..best blueberry pancakes I've had.. I can toss that hands down..

The french toast comes with fruit as an option but she didnt really feel like it at the time..that was tastey too but I preferred my pancakes..and the bacon? well the bacon was bacon...and bacon tastes good..they do have some thick slices though..so not only are they not skimpy with portions but they pack the taste with it too....

I will be back for the burgers..if I dont get tempted with breakfast...

The very good salad is not very good and I won't consider ordering the chili cheese fries again. My friend who ordered the classic burger was disappointed they did not assemble the burger for him. After reading the burger reviews on Yelp, I will consider going back to order one of their specialty burgers.

My favorite part of the meal was the chocolate banana milkshake made with vanilla ice cream, an entire banana and chocolate syrup.

We ordered three burgers to share because we were doing a taste test comparison - the Alpine burger which was served with goat cheese instead of gruyere or swiss, the Western burger with BBQ sauce, cheddar and bacon and the mushroom burger.  I'd give the burger a 3.5 if I could!

The first bite of the burger was nice and juicy, but as it cooled it became dry and the meat was a little tough because the patty had been pressed pretty well.  The meat also wasn't seasoned enough, and could have been improved with a little more salt & pepper, maybe a little bit of finely minced onion for texture and moisture.  The bun was also a little dry for my tastes since I prefer a soft Kaiser roll but everyone has their personal preference.

However, the condiments were very good.  The goat cheese with caramelized onions in the Alpine burger was my favorite.  Sure, there are other burger joints who take the basic burger up a notch by adding brie, but that cheese doesn't have a very high taste profile and tends to just melt into the rest of the condiments.  The goat cheese had a nice creamy chalkiness that tasted good with the buttery, sweet caramelized onions.  My dining companions also really dug the mushroom burger and the western bbq burger; after all, how could you not like crisply fried, thick cut bacon?

Also, the service wasn't stellar.  I don't recall the service to be especially warm, or the waitress coming over very often to check on our progress.  Yes, we were a party of 5 who ordered 3 burgers and 1 side of fries, but really good service would have elevated the review to a higher rating.

I've always loved Mo's burgers for their burgers but on a recent trip to North Beach we had late lunch early dinner there and I was not really impressed. I'm totally into fries and love them to be perfect but unfortunately it seemed like my fries had been sitting around way too long and I was served reheated really crispy hard fries. Not good.

i love my fries to be soft and not too crispy. I even asked the woman to make sure my fries were not too crispy but I got hard old fries.

It spoiled the rest of the dinner unfortunately. The burger was still pretty good but damn if it's not all good then it's all bad. You know?

I've only come here for breakfast but its the perfect little joint to eat some food in a nice place without the pretense that you get at some of the other neighborhood cafes.

No lines, no long wait to be served. The waitress has always been very attentative and comes by with coffee refills often (which is a big plus when you need your coffee).

It's a classic diner with tons of 50's memorabilia on the wall (Marilyn Monroe, the 3 Stooges, etc) and even though its tacky, who cares? You just come, sit down, be served, eat, and move on.  Mo's isn't trying to be anything special, but it is special by being able to stick to the basics and doing them in the right way.

I've only been there a handful of times, but you can tell there are regulars and they are all greeted by their first name. It's like "Cheers", but only its a diner and not a bar. But once I did see a guy there who looked like Norm and that made me even happier.

Just ate at Mo's for lunch.  This was probably my fourth visit over the years and it has never disappointed.  The burgers are awesome and unlike so many other burger places, I can testify that Mo's actually hand-forms their patties out of fresh ground chuck.  The size of the patty is always perfect.  Medium-rare (how i order all red meat) is a FOR REAL medium-rare, not a medium like most places end up doing it.  Take one bite and the juices start flowing pretty good out of the burger.  Awesome!

The fries are great, perfectly salted.  I've also had the milkshake here, and was very impressed.  All in all, if you are looking for a solid, geniune burger please do yourself a favor and head straight to Mo's.  Truly a great spot for eating in the city.

God I love this place. Before I converted to vegetarianism, that is. Now it is just a painful reminder of a very happy time when I ate like a caveman. At least, a highly evolved caveman, who got to eat nice things like bacon and barbecue sauce. Ahhh... good times.

My favorite was of course the Western Burger. I am a sucker for anything that combines bacon with onions and barbecue sauce. They make a really good "French" Burger with bleu cheese and caramelized onions, as well as a "Best Burger" which is actually a meat patty stuffed with goat cheese. These are to-die-for.

All of their burgers are grilled to perfection on hot lava rocks. The guys here know what they are doing, and if you want hairline pink then by burger, you've got it. Me, I prefer more pink than done, but hey, to each his or her own.

Good selection of other foods and AWESOME brunch. I love their French toast, Eggs Benedict, Fried Potatoes, huge omelettes, and portobello mushroom sandwiches. Really, you can't go wrong. Nothing soaks up a hangover like Mo's. Man I miss this street! (I moved this year.)

Good, serviceable diner food - we came here around 10 pm on Friday and the place was randomly full of 12 year old boys.  Got a cheeseburger and some fries - service was quick, cordial and efficient.

Nice crispy fries and the burger was on point as well.  Convenient North Beach location - if they stayed open later I think they'd get a good amount of business from the post-bar crowd.
