We were greeted warmly and seated on this Saturday night, amidst a louder than I expected ambience.
Our server brought menus and bussers brought water and a huge onion bread loaf with whipped butter. The loaf initially looked like an unimpressive oversized hamburger bun, but when we cut into it, the center was surprisingly soft and warm. With whipped butter slathered on it, the oniony-ness was yummy and the texture densely soft.
I had The Bone In Ribeye with no seasoning and medium rare. Its a good thing that I prefer rare, because it came out more rare than medium rare, and perfectly salt free.
The Grilled Asparagus with Hollandaise (instead of the balsamic something something that usually comes with) were very good.
The Lyonnaise Potatoes were caramelized onion pieces and chunks of potatoes, and yum.
We spied huge salads on other tables and kept wondering how people eat that AND their entree. They really are huge!
My biggest beef with this location is that since they're underground, they have NO cell reception at the table. There's a tiny bit in the bathroom, but this precludes me from quick tipping or uploading pictures or any such Yelp activity.
So I'd urge them to offer free wifi : D
I'd also say that for the ambience and the menu, the service could stand to be taken up a notch as it felt a little casual and less than attentive. The host who seated us had the air of a Morton's, but our server - while nice - just did not have that same attention to detail or attentiveness. -

This is a good location for a meal before anything at Staples, L.A. Live, or the surrounding area. There are a few other prime steak house options (The Palms), each with their own distinctive vibe and ambiance.
I sat for an early meal (5:45) before seeing 'American Idiot' at the Ahmanson. For me, Morton's is an old school classic. I enjoyed my meal completely, one highlight was my server, Takako, she was amazing (A+). She tolerated my humor and was very attentive to the needs of our table.
Our appetizers were all very good, the Tuna Tartare (B+), and the Center Cut Iceberg Salad (A+), both hit the spot. I also considered my two dirty martini's as an appetizer, they both came with fresh, hand-stuffed blue cheese olives, and were made to perfection (A++)!
For my entree I had the center cut filet-mignon cooked medium/rare (A+), which they nailed. I had a great meal and appreciated superb service, but I always grapple with the Morton's price tag, in this case, $250 (with tip) per couple (C). Granted, it would have been considerably less without alcohol, but for me, my dirty martini was a highlight. The price makes me want to move my grade from a 4 star to a 3 star, but I'll resist. -

I have been here three times, and each time it has been progressively better.
First time I was here I had the steak.... it was burnt to a crisp on the outside and bleeding on the inside... not good, the rest of the meal was not memorable so I don't have much else to say.
The second time I came here was a couple months ago with my co-workers for DineLA, I was very happy with the French Onion Soup (very savory, and not over salted like so many other places), the Filet Mignon was cooked exactly as I had requested (medium rare) but it needed a little more seasoning (perhaps salt or steak sauce), and then for dessert I had the Chocolate Mousse which was ok (I am not a huge fan of mousses).
Today I had the Morton Burger with Horseradish Cheddar Cheese, Mushrooms and Onions, it was very good, but the burger was monstrous. If you have a small stomach, you might be better off ordering something else.
For a supposedly fancy smancy place, Morton's is just ok. -

Went for a friend's birthday. He booked the private room which was already a nice setting. I didn't realize the location was so discreet. It's literally a door and a sign. Feels a bit hush hush. The reception was actually at the basement level and what's great about it is that no one can get any reception = dinner uninterrupted. The birthday guy also had live entertainment set up (in case you were wondering) so they do allow outside vendors. They DO NOT let you bring outside drinks and I think one of the guests was told when he brought some beer as a gift. They still drank it though.
We had a pretty set menu with a choice of salad, a choice of entree, and a choice of dessert. The sides were standard. I ordered the filet mignon and the fiance ordered the rib eye. I'm so glad I ordered the filet mignon. It was the perfect size for someone who doesn't want to leave stuffed, just satisfied. The mashed potatoes were so nicely whipped. The salad was perfectly dressed. Not too greasy or dry. The green beans were so thin, not like the ones you see in the market or my mom's backyard. Hard to grasp with a fork. The dessert was a choice of mixed berries with whipped cream or a chocolate mousse. Both delicious. We combined the two for a very berry dessert. It was better than the birthday cake brought in by the host. Not too sweet.
Only thing I noticed that was off were the ribeyes. My fiance ordered a medium and another guy got a medium rare. They had to switch halfway into their ribeyes. The birthday guy also thought he got the wrong ribeye as well. Tip: Cut through the middle of the ribeye to see if you got the right one first before you dig in. That way they can correct it and you won't have to switch with anyone or end up eating the whole thing and feeling unsatisfied. -

Only reason this outlet of the Morton's franchise is getting 1 star is because my waiter was quite nice and hospitable.. But he admitted that it was only his third day there.. So I'm sure he'll eventually be assimilated into their culture.
1. My $47, 8oz fillet Mignon wasn't even worth $24 in my humble opinion. Dry and crispy. I think they purposely make it dry so that you order more wine, and to get a full glass you'll pay $48 at least.
2. The $12 sour cream mashed potatoes were very lumpy and bland.
3. The $12 asparagus was decent.
4. My $12 glass of wine was filled just over a quarter of the way.. I expected half, or at least close to half.. You have to sip it very slowly, very very slowly, so it might possibly last the length of the meal.
5. The head waiter or general manager there, looked me up and down and whispered something about me to one of his associates when I came to their reception area.. Its true I was dressed in a bit of an unorthodox manner, but its just my original style and my choice.. I don't go to a restaurant and pay $100 to be judged. Also, this general manager was quite smarmy, lacking a smile and pleasant demeanor.. He would do better at an Olive Garden or IHOP.
6. The ambiance of this place sucks! The music playing is worse than that at my gym.. Sounds like there were fat men doing aerobics in the room next door.. I politely asked for it to be turned down or changed possibly to some Jazz or classical, which is much better for digestion and appropriate for an expensive restaurant.. Don't think they did anything about it.
This place is not worth the money.. Not even close.. First time there, and last time there. You should not pay $100 for a meal and leave dissatisfied. They should clean up their act or close their doors. -

Came here for dinner with the boys. Nothing beats a good steak and some scotch. We ordered the oysters on the half shell for appetizers, and although I'm not a big fan oysters, these were decently fresh. For steak, I ordered the porterhouse medium rare and we shared sides of sauteed brussells sprouts with bacon, sauteed button mushrooms and mashed potatoes.
The sides were ok, nothing to write home about. Mortons needs to step it up on the sides, definitely does not compare to the quality at Mastros. However, the steak was cooked perfectly and the service was good. -
Review from Tony W.
This Morton's is so so. I've eatten here twice. The first time was for lunch and that was pretty good. Now this time for dinner, my steak was supposed to be cooked medium but it came out medium well.
Unfortunately, the best part of the meal was the fact that I had the best mojito ever here. The bartender here knows how to make them, and I gulped down 2 of them. I'll only be coming back here just to drink mojitos. For the price this place charges, I expect my steak to be cooked perfectly each time. I've never had this problem when I eat at Ruth's.
The carrot cake is a huge piece, and I highly suggest this dessert if you're going to order one. -

I was really expecting too much. I've had dreams of going to a nice steak place and having some meat rock my world (ahem) but this place was disappointing. It was dead, steak was a little better than mediocre, and the worst thing was that the waiter forgot to bring my friend's iced tea. I thought the service was supposed to be extremely impeccable at these places, especially if there were only 6 full tables in the place. I know iceberg wedges aren't supposed to be amazing, but I've had amazing wedges before and I expected more for a $13 wedge. Lobster bisque was absolutely disgusting, tasting like butter. It had one tiny lonely piece of lobster in the middle. It was pathetic.

I came here during Dine LA. Ken and I were craving for steak so we decided to check Morton's out. The front doors of Morton's seem like a secret passage way because there were 2 wooden doors randomly on the walls of a building.
We opened the doors and stepped into this dark illuminated room and took the elevators down to the basement. We were greeted by the friendly host and seated right away at the booth. First thing I realized was damn I have no reception and cannot check in on yelp!
Ken and I both ordered the rib eye (medium rare) with mash potatoes. The steak was perfectly prepared. Either that or it was too dark for me to notice otherwise. We also ordered a side of mushrooms to go along with our entree, which went really well with the steak. For the appetizer options we decided to try the lobster bisque soup and also the five cheese onion soup, both were really good. But they were a bit on the salty side.
I am a huge dessert fan, but this is where Morton's disappointed me. We ordered the chocolate mousse and the key lime pie. Both were ehh, not impressed... I have had better.
There is not much I can say about the service because there was not any. Even though our server was really nice but he was always M.I.A.
They also take a picture for you and print it out and frame it in their Morton's card/frame. So be sure to ask them for a picture to keep as a memory! -

Unreasonably expensive!
Nothing special with the food, the environment, the atmosphere or anything else.

Make sure you do a Yelp check in to get their $110 dinner to TWO deal where it comes with steak and/or seafood + dessert along with either appetizer or drinks which I can't remember. I realized this AFTER we had paid and came out of the restaurant to do my Yelp check in!! Couldn't check in at the restaurant because there was no reception.
As you enter the restaurant, there is a hallway that leads you to a stairway that goes down. The dining room is located on the basement level. We were very welcomed by a friendly hostess and got seated right away. Being a Sunday night, this place was not busy at all. Our servers were Jacob and (another person which wasn't clearly mentioned) and both gave excellent service.
Presention:
**The server brought out a cart of assorted trays that had an assembly of different specials they carry on their menu. One tray had all the different cuts of steaks ranging from Filet Mignon to Ribeye to Porterhouse. Another tray had all their seafood items. Then there was an array of veggies and how they prepare their salads. This presentation took a good 10 minutes. Applause to the server who did a very good job and all the explanations about the menu.
Appetizers:
**The four of us first started off with their beef steak tomato salad which came with 4 slices of thick tomatoes and a side of vinegarette dressing and blue cheese dressing. We asked for extra slices of red onions to compliment this salad. The combination of EVERYTHING went very well together. I dislike blue cheese but this dressing wasn't overpowering or pungent at all. Highly recommend it.
**We also ordered the crab cakes as our appetizer. O.M.G.!!! Lumps of delicious crabs were 5 stars all the way! Very flavorful and awesome. Must order as appetizer!
Main Course:
**Two of us got their Sea bass while the other two got their porterhouse steak. Surprisingly, they give out a very good portion of the sea bass that's topped off with pineapple salsa. If you love sea bass, order this dish!
**The porterhouse steak was something I'd rather order at Morton's vs. Cut. Very well prepared where it had the right tenderness and flavor. It just melts in your mouth! I'd have to say that i like Morton's and Mastro's for good solid steak!
Side Dish:
**We also got two side dishes. Brussel sprouts and Garlic mashed potatoes. The brussel sprouts were on the salty side so I was done after eating 5 pieces. It's cooked with onions and bacon which is the typical way of cooking this dish. The mashed potatoes were good but I prefer this to be less salty and buttery as well.
The server brought out a tray of different types of desserts which all looked so good but we were too full for anything else to enter our tummies.
Overall, I'd give them 5 stars for service and 4 stars for taste and quaity of the food. -

Went here to treat myself after a long day and week. Happy Hour style!!!!
Ordered the Crab Cakes and I was still hungry since it was 3 burger like pieces that left me wanting steak. I tried the Filet Mignon burgers, which were delicious with their special sauce. Much thanks to my server, Michael, who made the experience a excellent one.
I would love to try the Baked Seafood Platter with friends, as well as their desserts for 2. I was really exhausted, but the bar crowd was cool, it was a perfect place to dine. I also want to try their Porterhouse steak or Chilean seabass.
This was a spontaneous getaway treat for me and I plan to do more of these here this year.....I love going down the flight of stairs to get to the bar. This place is classy and perfect for the right date.
*Place to eat where you want to eat rich foods (literally pricewise and foodwise) and have no guilt...lol* -

get a filet or porter house.
get some mashed potatoes. a beer or a nice glass of wine.
don't waste money on the appetizers. good but not worth the price. the shrimp alexander was delicious. i just don't think $20 is worth it. that's beer money. 56 bucks for that filet worth it!!!
downtown location was not busy on a late friday night. i loved it. -

We had a very good experience at Morton's. When we arrived they had mistakenly deleted our reservation. They were very appologetic. We sat down at the bar to have a drink or two while we waited. When the manager came to take us to our table he took care of our drinks. It was not necessary, but was a great touch. That kind of service will get me to come back more often.
For my meal I ordered the cajun ribeye steak. The seasoning was excellent. The meat was juicy and tender. It was cooked perfectly as ordered. The side I ate the most of was the hashbrown. It was crispy and quite tasty. If only i could make them like that at home.
The service was great. That is what gave them the fifth star. -

Definitely a sketchy way to die. The restaurant is underground, so there's no phone signal; check into yelp when you're still outside and maybe send a text to someone where you are before you get into a food coma.
Went during the DineLa week.
Lobster Bisque - very salty, one piece of lobster. But can't complain since its a promotion, but there's other restaurants out there who still goes all out during these week.
French Onion soup - sweet, swiss compliments the soup very well.
Rib eye with mash potatoes - cooked perfectly as ordered, mash potatoes were creamy and good.
Chocolate mousse - eh, its just chocolate.
Entree was definitely good, but appetizer and dessert was alright. Definitely, obviously have to go back for their regular menu. 4 stars for the food but the service..
The Service sucks. No seriously, the service sucked. Dessert came out 30 mins later when they had already cleared our tables. Waiter was nervous or preoccupied, bussers were slow. But it was only our table, everyone else was helped out accordingly. We got there at 12 before it started getting busy, but were still the last ones that left because they took a long time to take our food out.
So 3 stars for the experience. -

So I had walked past Morton's a million times headed to events at LA live from the subway and had always looked forward to trying Morton's.
There were two of on a Monday night and we were seated next to a party of twelve that was yet to arrive. There were a good amount of open tables throughout the other parts of the restaurant..
I will also mention that I am a bit of a wine snob, and they have a decent selection, but a lot of their wines are displayed out, where I am POSITIVE at times the temp can exceed seventy two degrees and oxidize! I ordered a Taz Fiddlesticks, SRH Pinot. If that was a Sommelier that brought it over, what a joke, most in wine now know wines should NOT be served at room temp seventy degrees, reds should be kept in a cellar at the fifty degree range. The wine guy as I am sure that was all he was, then couldn't cut the foil properly and poured out hot wine over the foil, way to go. When I asked if they always served their wine this warm he answered well I can chill it now if you like in a snotty tone. And once you have cracked a bottle at this temp you can not go back, first, you will notice too much alcohol in your first taste and secondly your aroma's will stay in the bottle if chilled down for these two reasons you can not go backwards, thanks wine guy non sommelier for your crappy attitude, lack of being able to open foil and serving a Pinot Noir at seventy degrees.
The oysters were decent as was the rest of the food, but for me just decent I also had their signature shrimp dish and it was decent, but nothing I would recommend as a must have. When our plates were dropped off our server asked if we wanted to add one of the warm desserts. The large party showed up and we became the last priority. We were never given the chance to order our warm dessert . Now as a server I would guess that when I have a table that has ordered over two hundred dollars I would not punt them for a fixed tip table of twelve.
All of this being said, I felt that Morton's needs a reality check, the service was very sub par for two people that spent over three hundred dollars on dinner. The staff should be trained better, but I will not be back to find out when there is so much better for this sort of money. -

[HH Only] The fact that they have a late night happy hour (9pm - close) as well as an earlier one is A+ in my book! Plus, they are the only Morton's I've come across that has drink specials (although the wine on there sucks) on their HH menu as well. Get yourself a beer, move to the regular wine list, and get your eats on!

Morton's is one of my favorite places to eat. The steaks are fantastic and don't need an ice cream scoop of butter on top to make it good.
Start with the lobster bisque. It's very good with visible lobster...shocking! I normally get the Porterhouse, no sauces or other silly things to get in the way of the meat. Medium rare is just that...not over or under cooked. Sides are ala cart, and the choices are plentiful. I recommend sauteed spinach and mushrooms and a baked potato.
The wine selection is quite good, however you can bring your own and pay a corking fee.
I've always found the staff attentive without smothering. During lunch, it can become quite busy which occasionally leads to delayed checks, but otherwise the staff is on top of it.
If you're looking for a great steak at a reasonable price, Morton's isn't the place. If you're looking for a really great steak at any price, this is one the best places to find it. -

Morton's is no Mastro's.
It's Dine L.A. week so I took my friend here for her birthday lunch. They bring you out a big round loaf of bread which you need to slice up yourself. I'm not a fan of that right off the bat. It tasted okay, but you know how some restaurants have memorable bread that you just don't want to stop eating? Didn't happen here.
Starter: I had the lobster bisque for my starter, which was ok. Big chunk of lobster in it.
Main course: Next, comes the ribeye medium rare. It was cooked perfectly, but my friend and I both had to add salt for more flavor. The cut was tender enough, but resembled a pork chop according to my friend. Mashed potatoes that came with it I would have liked to be more creamy and silky. Maybe it would've been better were it had been warmer.
Dessert: Bingo! I'm not a big fan of mousse of any flavor, but the chocolate mousse they served was just perfect. Rich, creamy, and did not resemble some cheap, light, cake frosting of sorts. The coffee was a bit weak and disappointing.
Price for this dine L.A. combo: $28 + tax and gratuity.
Service: Mediocre at best. Some service is genuine and friendly. This guy was just doing his job to a bare minimum. Kind of awkward and lackluster. He even told us "remind me if I forget to bring the coffee." wth kind of lack of pride in your job do you have. Now that I think of it I gave the full 20% without considering this. Too engrossed in conversation. Ugh. Do-over. Front desk ladies were very friendly. Manager also stopped by to ask how our meals were. Always a nice, personable touch.
I probably won't be adding this place as a yelp regular.
Parking: 3 hour free validated parking if you park in the structure off of 7th. Spaces are a little tight, but will have to do...it's downtown...can't expect more. -

Los Angeles, CA
I had eaten here on a previous occasion and at the time, I much preferred Nick and Stef's or the Palm for my once in a blue moon steak fix. Dine LA brought me in here and I had a small but flavorful ribeye cooked a perfect medium rare and topped with a pat of hotel butter. The steak came with a nice cold salad on a nice cold plate tossed in blue cheese dressing and topped with some hard cooked egg and a couple of anchovies. It also came with chocolate mousse and coffee. The grand total was $28.00 and I felt like it was a pretty good deal and appreciated the portion. There is nothing I hate more than getting beef poisoning from a steakhouse and whenever I go into a place and the server informs me that they have a steak that weighs over a pound, I become immediately disgusted. Good portion here.
You are going to get a good steak here and you will not have to add any salt or steak sauce to your plate. The mashed potatoes were above average and I felt that the service was really competent. I sat in the bar and did not need to ask the server for anything at all.
I guess that the only thing missing was some spinach or some sauteed mushrooms, but this is a lunch special here and the guy did not bring me the regular menu, otherwise I probably would have ordered some green vegetables.
Initially, I was going to deduct for the lack of a view, but that did not really affect the dining experience one way or another. This place delivered everything that a good steakhouse should deliver without any false advertising. I would not want to pay full price at this place, that is for sure. If I am going to pay big bucks for beef, I want a Korean or a Frenchman cooking it. -

I rate Morton's Steakhouse as a strong 4 star steakhouse, but falling slightly short of being an exceptional 5 star steakhouse.
At the outset, Morton's is really expensive (fine dining prices) so expect to pay per person about $50-$60, which will include one appetizer, entree and drink. You won't walkaway disappointed because it'll still be some of the most tender steaks and excellent customer service that money can buy, however, it will leave you asking so where's the best steakhouse?
Overall, I personally like Ruth Chris and Mastro's food more than Morton's (all within the similar price range for a fine dining steakhouse). But I hope that I'm not discouraging anyone, I recommend making a journey to Morton's and trying their experience and food. -

Los Angeles, CA
I got bored of eating fast food for dinner, so I decided to go to a restaurant. I'd seen Morton's every time I go to the 7th and Fig Plaza to grab CPK, so I decided I should try it at least once.
Little did I know, for a college student, it would be outrageously expensive for dinner. But it was nice to splurge, I guess. I took my roommate from Texas with me, and she was excited to finally have some steak.
One thing that I think is a hit or miss with people is that they like to take your time to service you. I made a reservation ahead of time and was seated right away. We got to choose either a booth or a table, so I chose a booth. The booths are big enough to seat 4 people (it's sort of a round table deal facing each other), and once my roommate and I sat down, they took away the other place settings, leaving us sitting next to each other. I slid over to the side of the booth because that was kind of awkward. I suppose this would be good if you were on a date with some one and wanted to sit next to them.
We were in so much anticipation for the food. After we were seated, our waiter asked us if we wanted tap or bottled water. We went with bottled water. He quickly came back and gave us the water and some bread. The bread was okay - but maybe I just liked it because I was starving and it was food. It was a sort of onion bread. After giving us the bread the waiter left again. We waited for like 5 minutes before he came back with a drink menu. After my roommate ordered a cocktail, and I ordered a lemonade, he left. We were sitting there eating bread for about 10 minutes until he came back with the drinks.
I was afraid I'd get full on the bread before any one actually gave us a menu. The waiter asked us if we'd been there before, we said no. He said how it worked was we get the drink menu, then our drinks, then he comes by with the food cart to show us the selections then he leaves a menu card with you, then comes back to take your order. (Wow such a complicated process!!!!) Anyway, we FINALLY got to the food cart part, and the presentation wasn't too bad. It was nice to see the size of each steak you could get, and what the fish looked like. Also, there was a live lobster on the cart, which I found amusing when he held it up.
Now let's be serious here about prices for a second. My roommate's cosmo was $14. The entrees were around $50. I ordered sea bass which was about $45. My roommate got a filet mignon, which was the cheapest of the steaks, for about $50. We decided to order dessert with our meal (ice cream with whipped cream and a chocolate cake) because the waiter's description of it was very appetizing. The dessert was about $20.
Food portions: When we finally got our food, the portion size didn't seem like enough at first. If you don't get a side with your entree, then that's really all you get. But the steak was a nice size and my roommate wasn't able to finish the entire thing. (We took the rest to go). My sea bass was probably just the right size (after having all that bread, especially!)
Did we enjoy our food? Yes, for the most part. My roommate seemed to enjoy her meal. She said it was delicious and cooked the right way. My sea bass was cooked nicely and tasted good enough. I enjoyed the pineapple salsa that came on top of it. It wasn't the best thing I'd ever had, but it was nice.
I was impressed by the presentation of the dessert. There was a mound of whipped cream on top of that ice cream. Not a huge fan of whipped cream, but it certainly made it look impressive. The ice cream was rich. The chocolate cake was good, but I feel like the cake to ice cream ratio was lacking. Too little cake! Or I just was picking from the side of the dish with less cake on it. The dessert was more than enough for two people, at least.
Ambiance? I saw a lot of couple there on dates. The place was very classy. I felt a little under-dressed in a cardigan, t-shirt, skirt and leggings, but no one seemed to second guess my apparel (despite the bright blue Donkey Kong shirt I was hiding under the cardigan). Our waiter still treated us no different than any other customers, so that was good. But I'd say, dress nicely if you decide to go here. The restaurant was rather dim, which I suppose makes it nice for a romantic setting, but I'm not a fan of dim places. I like to be able to see my food clearly lit up. (Just so I know they're not hiding anything. :))
One thing I disliked about the place was the bathroom. The bathroom was excessively dim, even compared to the main room in the restaurant. What struck me as odd about the restroom was that the container with the toilet seat covers in it was up very high. I had trouble reaching it! Now I'm a very petite girl, but do they expect all of their customers to be like 6 feet tall? Didn't ruin my evening, but it was a little annoying.
I liked that they were at least speedy about giving us the check and dealing with the payment. And they validate parking! :) -

Steaks are good...just not the most amazzzzing I've had. Bread is good...Can't really complain about the service but can't rave about it either. My experience was just kind of...forgettable.
Atmosphere-wise, the DTLA location is perfect for business and it has that "boy's club" kinda feel. I'm not too sure how well it'd go for *romance.*

Arrived at Morton's for dinner. The host was warm and sincere in greeting us. We were quickly seated, but to my surprise the place was actually empty on a Saturday night.
Ambiance : Cozy with a romantic type of vibe
Service: I can't remember his name, but our waiter was on the ball
Dinner: Sea Bass and Grilled Asparagus
Overall Dining Experience: I guess you can say I'm spoiled by Mastro's Steakhouse (Beverly Hills location. Honestly, The food was decent, but nothing spectacular. -

I could have sworn I wrote a review for this Morton's... hmmm... well here I am again for the 2nd time and I ate pretty much the same thing as last time.
I was treated to a $29 Morton's Prime Lunch Selections which includes a cup of soup or Salad, Entree and Dessert. (I think the last time I had this deal it was $24) For my soup I got the Lobster Bisque (which I already tried last time knowing that the onion soup would be salty) and got the grilled Ribeye Steak with Garlic Butter and Mashed Potatoes and a Key Lime Pie... I feel like when I came here 2 years ago, their steak tasted better. The Medium Rare Ribeye Steak came out Medium and the Keylime pie came out broken (but still delicious). Service wasn't that great... I feel like Morton's quality went down a notch.
If it wasn't free I probably would've been pretty unhappy!Listed in: Fine Dining in LA

The staff was pleasant. The food was excellent. Why the 4 stars? Well, the rest of the table was not to happy. A couple of the steaks were raw and still cold. My experience wasn't bad. In the end, we all had fun, few mishaps, service was great. I ordered the filet mignon, it was very tender. Others ordered the prime rib, very flavorful. They also had prime rib marinated in Cajun flavor, I'm not a fan of that, tasted grainy. Definitely stick to the prime rib.
I especially enjoyed their side dishes and desserts. Raspberry souffle, carrot cake, and their malt lava. MMMmmmm..... -

I've been here a couple of times. For happy hour mostly (which is really great). I love their happy hour menu and their drinks. Their angus sliders are one of the best tasting sliders I've had for only $5!! They're juicy, tender and cooked to your liking (medium rare ftw!). Sometimes there's this one bartender who also makes killer mojitos (sadly, not all the time)...
Then, I came here for lunch two times, and it definitely left me disappointed. The first time, I came to try their prix fixe menu (soup, prime rib, and dessert), but found out they had run out of prime rib in the middle of lunch rush...so I had to get the chicken, which was very average tasting.
The second time, I ordered the lunch portion rib eye, medium rare. The meat came almost well done, seasoning was very lacking and bland. All in all I left very disappointed and thought I wouldn't come back for steak here again.
However, I had the chance to go again, when my gf's mom was visiting LA. We decided to have dinner near where I worked so I thought Morton's would be a good choice considering the nice, elegant, quiet atmosphere down at the restaurant, and boy was I surprised with their steaks! This time the steaks were near perfect. Juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection! Maybe they have different cooks during lunch time, or maybe they do not put as much effort into it when it's not the full price menu. I don't know what it is, but it seemed like a totally different restaurant during dinner time! Anyway, we had some oysters, onion soup and salad, each very good and well balanced. And proceeded to eat our delicious steaks, paired with an excellent bottle of Argentinian red wine recommended by our waitress.
All in all it was a five-star experience for dinner, but I'll be taking one star away because of their lackluster performance during lunches.
P.S. They really take their time explaining the menu during dinner. It takes some time, but it's definitely a nice touch and a bit entertaining. -

I was here for lunch and definitely thought this place has dropped off in both food quality and service. I had salmon, which in retrospect was a bad idea, but I expected something fresh. Instead, the salmon was mushy, perhaps farm-raised......a disappointment.
Nice atmosphere, but there's much better places to eat downtown.Listed in: Best Happy Hour

I had been wanting to try Morton's to compare it to some of the other nicer steakhouses in town. I had only been once before for a cocktail and appetizer (the sliders- just ok). So I was here for the dineLA menu this week. I had the lobster bisque, the ribeye and mashed potatoes, and the cheesecake.
The onion bread before the meal was okay. The lobster bisque was decent (not much lobster in it, but very creamy). The steak was mediocre. It was reasonably tender, but the flavor wasn't anything to write home about. Nothing bad about it, but I don't understand why anyone would pay for this steak when you can go to Mastros for a similar price. I still haven't found a steakhouse that is better than Mastros. The cheesecake was very good.
Overall, there was nothing "bad" in the meal. But there was nothing special. I've satisfied my curiosity, so I probably won't go back.
The service was good, and they validate parking at lunchtime in the nearby garage. -

It is expected when you dine at a restaurant such as Morton's everything would be flawless, they delivered.
Ambiance is calming, I enjoy how it is underground, kind of reminds me of a speakeasy.
We went during happy hour, drank and ate.
Colossal Shrimp Cocktail, exactly what it was.
Blue Cheese fries were HEAVY with flavor, but I kept coming back for more.
Filet Mignon sliders were tender and juicy, and so were the crab burgers. I am not much of a fan of seafood burgers, but I think I could demolish these all day.
Lastly we ordered souffle, it was delicious.
Overall, its good and everything looks 5 star. I would come here to try their entrees when I have time. -

I had my anniversary dinner here today and all I have to say is that dinner was amazing. service especially was unbelievable. Our sever was so sweet and they went out of their way to make our experience memorable. They even took a picture of us and put it in a card for us. We were hesitant because they didn't get as good reviews as other steak houses but service was so good. We were so full by the end that we couldn't finish the three desserts we got haha. Thank you Morton's for a great night!

I always wanted to check this place out - when we were in LA for training, I tried to get people to go but no one was willing to spend their dinner budget on a fancy steakhouse. So I finally found a few friends willing to check out their dineLA menu with me.
Turns out their dineLA menu is exactly the same as their daily lunch specials - it includes three courses for $29. Pretty much the best deal you'll get here.
We started with a huge loaf of bread. Warm and fresh, it was pretty good. We all helped ourselves :)
I had the lobster bisque, which was delicious. Sadly, there was only a single piece of lobster in there, but oh well. It was savored and enjoyed.
Main course - we all got the grilled ribeye steak, with garlic mashed potatoes. I got it medium, and it was grilled to perfection. Paired with the mashed potatoes, I was a happy camper. I do have one complaint, though - the cut had a lot of fat, and it was hard to see, so I had trouble cutting some of it out and got mouthfuls a few times. Very unpleasant.
Dessert! Rich got the key lime pie, which was pretty tart but good. Michelle and I got the double chocolate mousse, which was very rich. I thought it would come on a chocolate crust or something, but it was literally plain mousse elegantly piped into a glass cylinder, topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a rasberry. Props for presentation.
I like this place. I definitely want to go back and properly enjoy a full-priced dinner menu. -

For my bday this year my other half took me to Morton's. He always manages to keep it a surprise every time he takes me somewhere. When we arrived I was greeted by the hostess and was seated at our table. Since it was my bday I received a personalized menu, a complimentary photo which I was able to take home and a complimentary dessert of my choice. The staff was very attentive. We started off with the bread and fresh oysters on a half shell. I ordered the filet mignonette bone in and the bf ordered the porter house. For our sides we got the grilled asparagus and the mushrooms with sautéed onions. And for dessert I chose the vanilla ice cream with chocolate cake. Since they make the dessert as you order the ice cream and the cake tested so good. They do valet parking with validation it's $7 and without it was $10

This is one of those places where you can't go wrong if you just want a steak. I like getting the "steak and seafood for 2" deals. I always leave the place satisfied and full.

A franchise of more than 50 Morton's around the US. It is a clubby atmosphere with mahogany and leather motif. This is for work, so it is business and this trip would not be any different from any other fine dining business trips in Boston or NYC or Chicago. In my case, it is high-tech marketing speak that accompanies the food. It does get old, but it is for dinero. These kind of occasions require prime aged beef with some cocktails for me. There's really not much else to say about biz or fine dining places like these. You will get premier steak, it will be a hearty fare, it will be served in generous USDA prime proportions and it will be on the expensive side. You follow the format: Have an aperitif, enjoy the meal, talk business, don't get food on your white shirt and tie, have some fine Porto after and tip the valet attendant.
Incidentally, I had Maine lobster cocktail, prime rib, side dish of creamed spinach. Creme brulee for dessert. For vino, j'ai pris Petite Sirah High Valley, 2007 et apres, j'ai pris un porto. The Sirah was delicious and prime rib juicy.
I actually was dreaming of some bar bites of fries of melted blue cheese, to go with the three little cheeseburger and maybe smoked salmon pizza...neh, I wasn't wearing my cutoffs. -

Went about a month ago with some friends. You expect a certain level of service at Mortons. However, they exceeded it. Server was terrific and manager went out of his way to make sure we were happy.

I guess it's everything you would expect from a classy upscale steakhouse in Downtown LA. Unfortunately for them, I am totally classless. Let's face it, when you come to Morton's what you are really paying top dollar for is to be seen eating a porterhouse next to Jerry O'Connell. The steaks are pretty good, granted, but that's not such an accomplishment when you consider new research coming out of the German Institute for Bovine Harmonics that suggests steak was invented by cavemen.
I do like the whole song and dance at dinner where the waiter trots out an entire tray of food for you to aid in the selection process just in case you are unfamiliar with the alien life form known as a "lobster." In short - Morton's is nothing special, but you will impress someone who has never seen a crustacean if you bring them here on a date. -

Back to Morton's, this time for lunch, after a morning at L.A. Mart looking at designer furniture and chandaliers.
Diane and I both had the grilled salmon, which was very tasty. I thought it was unusual for such a fabulous place that they didn't scrape off the grey layer of mercury-laden skin on the bottom of the salmon before cooking/serving it. Oh well, scraped it off myself. Salmon was tasty, buttery sauce, though not the best I've ever had.
Diane started with the onion soup, which looked fabulous. She said it was. I had the Morton's salad with goat cheese and anchovies, yum. We devoured the onion bread, of course, one of the best parts of the meal, served with a big slab of butter.
The best part of the entire meal (really) were the potatoes Lyonnaise. I think they're not even listed on the menu but you can order this dish and wow is it good! A big plate (for 2) of sauteed potatoes, all crunchy and browned on the outside, not too oily, with gobs of grilled onions. We also had the creamed spinach which was eh... But the green beans that came with the salmon were wonderful, they tasted very fresh and were cooked just right.
On the lunch menu, you get either key lime pie or chocolate mousse. We both had the pie. It had a very tart taste, and I didn't like the shreds of lime zest on top of the whipped cream. I'm a purist. Give me my dairy straight up please. It really wasn't the best key lime pie I've ever had, and that was a surprise also.
My conclusion: This place is MUCH better at dinner (and much more expensive) than at lunch. But I still love going here and will continue to do so any time I'm in the 7th and Fig area.
The parking is weird. You enter on 7th street west of Figueroa, and then you have to walk down a couple flights of stairs (fine going down, not as fun going up -- you can take an escalator part way). Last time I was here I was attending a seminar at the Wilshire Grand across the street and already had my parking validated. It was much easier - walked through the hotel and I was at the corner of 7th and Fig. But Morton's doesn't validate for that lot, so you have to be doing something else at the Wilshire Grand to get the validation. Just sayin'.
And PS, halfway down the stairs on the way to Morton's there are a ton of food trucks, the India Jones truck was there yesterday.1 Previous Review: Show all »
