I've only been here twice and each time my wife and I had the Steak and Seafood for Two deal: 2 salads, 1 potato, 1 vegetable, 2 single cut filets, your choice of shrimp or scallops, and your choice of hot chocolate cake or key lime pie for $99. We did the math and it amounts to roughly $50-$60 in savings. You can get these savings by signing up for their e-mail offers. Please note that since I've only had the filet, this may not be a fair comparison to Ruth's Chris.

Food - I'm not a big fan of filets. Sure they're tender but since they are lean, they don't have much flavor when compared to the Strip or a Ribeye. I believe the single cut filet at M's is not much cheaper than R'sC's regular filet, but it's significantly smaller. Morton's point of differentiation is that they bring out a plate with all their cuts of beef in the raw and explain them to you. You then choose which cut you would like and how you would like it cooked. Unlike Ruth's Chris, the steaks are served with butter on the side in what looks like a cross between a gravy bowl and a genie's lamp. Oddly, this seems more unhealthy than R'sC. Since R'sC is served on a sizzling plate, thereby melting the gratuitous amounts of butter, your steak glistens. At Morton's, the butter sauce is really thick and it colors your steak a bright yellow. An analogy I can think of is R'sC looks like body oil while Morton's looks like sunblock that hasn't been properly rubbed in. So as far as the filets goes, I think R'sC is superior but M's makes a pretty good one.

Both the shrimp and the scallops were excellent and the salad was so-so. For dessert, definitely go with the chocolate cake, which is a lava cake w/ a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Service - The first time we went, the service was excellent. The second time, our service sucked! T. My steak came out well done when I ordered a rare and the server said he would bring out a rare. I know a good steak takes a long time, but once again, our server disappeared out of the dining room and I finally got my steak 30 minutes later. Problem is, because it was waiting around so long, it went from a presumable rare to a medium-well. This experience was so bad that we decided we probably wouldn't come back even with the $99 deal.

Decor - This dining room is cozier than R'sC in Bethesda/DC and the seats are well spaced.

3 Stars for a good steak, bonus star for the good deal. I'd say give the deal a shot and if your server is good, you won't be disappointed!
