My best friend had her wedding here. We stayed here for 3 nights. This was one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at. Way better than any large hotel chain!! I loved the colonial decor. The hotel was very clean and our room was very comfortable. It felt like we were on a luxurious vacation. Coffee every morning in the parlor was convienent and fancy with silver spoons and china.
The wedding ceremony was in the library, which served this small wedding of approx. 35 people very well. The room was intimate and elegant. The dinner was in one of the dinning rooms. Great set up with beautiful chairs and decorations. The food [I had a filet] was delicious and the wine was flowing.
A free shuttle to and from the airport was also a plus!
Over all, this was a fantastic experience staying at the Morrison House!

Morrison House is simply beautiful and exactly what you would expect for Old Town extravagance. I went there for Christmas brunch with my parents when they were visiting in 2007. We all agreed that the meal overshadowed our trip to the significantly more expensive Vidalia the day before. I ordered probably the best bloody mary I've ever had in my life here. The service is outstanding. I can't think of a better place to have a quiet, upscale brunch than MH, and based on our tour of the facilities, I can highly recommend it as a fantastic place to stay in Old Town. FYI it is on the Travel/Leisure 500 best hotels in the world list.

Some enchanted evening....

It all got started with Club BV holding their wine tasting at the Morrison House.  I invited a friend to join me and he suggested that we have dinner there aprs tasting. The wine tasting was very nice, as usual. Club BV always does a nice job. (If you're in the Old Town area check them out: http://www.clubbv.org) The Morrison House provided us with lots of nice yummy things throughout the tasting.

After the tasting in the parlor we ate dinner in the piano bar. After 9:30 the place turns in to show tune central. Ex opera singers come to sing for the guests. Pat, the piano player, has been there forever and there isn't a show tune she doesn't know. The atmosphere is the best; big comfy leather seats, a fireplace, amazing service. For dinner I had the arugula salad, lamb chops (cooked PERFECTLY!) and a special surprise dessert from the chef: chocolate mousse, and some homemade truffles that were marvelous.  We were celebrating my birthday and somehow word got back to the kitchen. Actually, it was announced to the whole dining room. I was treated to the most beautiful rendition of "Happy Birthday" that I have ever heard. (When you have a roomful of people who can actually sing, it's quite a delight.)  Since it was getting later in the evening, we figured we could get away with asking the chef to come join us so that we could offer our compliments in person. Chef Dennis Marron (who used to work at Bistro Bis) came over to the table. We gushed over the spectacular meal that we had all enjoyed. Dennis was very nice (and cute!) and sat down with us for a while.  The waiter brought over extra glasses of champagne for us to enjoy.

If you have the opportunity to go to Morrison House, go.  The staff is warm, friendly, inviting. It's a beautiful place, and you are sure to get a magnificent meal.

My family and I went for dinner only. Not as hotel guests, and we didn't hit the piano bar. As for the dining experience, it was boring pseudo-Colonial crap and a borderline waste of money. Excellent service, though.

Hands-down, the best place I have ever stayed at in the D.C. area.  A boutique hotel that is small enough to provide very attentive, personal service.  Elegant but unpretentious, it is decorated in the Federal period style (a novelty for us west-coasters) and located right in the heart of Old-Town Alexandria.  While there are many good places to eat just steps away, go ahead and blow your meal budget at the hotel restaurant; great food in an intimate, relaxed setting.

If you're looking for classy Broadway piano bar, try the Morrison House on St. Asaph. The piano player quietly works the crowd, the crowd surrounding the piano belting out classic Broadway tunes (think Guys and Dolls). Add to this a well-made drink from the talented bar tenders, and you've got a perfect sophisticated evening.
