Best bagel sandwich I've ever had and superior service full of friendly smiles. It's busy, crowded and little loud on a Saturday morning---just the way I think a coffee shop should be. If you want a quiet place to study, try going on a weekday. Get the Sunset Bagel Sandwich on a cheddar jalapeno bagel with soy bacon. You'll die and then find yourself in heaven.
Oh, and the coffee is fucking legit. -

Given that i am the duchess of this place i should probably have a review for it.
I go in here almost every day for my morning cup of coffee. $2.50 for a Medium, $3 for a large and $1 refills.
Always warm inside, Julie always welcomes me with a smile and a "Good Morning Mama! The usual?" (i don't think she knows my name).
Fresh baked goods are always on display. small freshly made blueberry muffins are a MUST-TRY if you have never been here before. At $2.50 a pop you will be glad you listened to my recommendation! The Cinnamon-Sugar coffeecake is also delicious. Spongy and fluffy, though definitely on the sweeter side, so only get this if you have a strong sweet tooth, otherwise the blueberry muffin is the perfect balance of moist, sweet and slight hint of salty.
Always run into regulars. that is the magic of this place. it's so warm and welcoming and rarely crowded that you feel like you are part of a community. Same faces, same dogs tied up to the parking meters outside.
The sandwiches are delicious. I'm not big on sandwiches and have only ordered them once but you can get any sandwich on either a bagel bread or croissant, all made to order.
They offer a stamp card so after 10 visits you get a free drink.
bathrooms are clean.
not my favorite place to sit and work, since the furniture is old and the environment is a bit sad, but definitely worth coming to order the food and drink, maybe not to stick around for a few hours.
They have a "bring your own mug" service where if you leave a mug there they will always use it when you come and order your drink. this element adds to the whole community, homey feel of the place.
During farmers market days this coffee shop gets crowded. Tables all over the sidewalk and street filled with families sharing drinks and sandwiches.
There is an ATM machine inside in case you need quick cash for the farmers market. I believe the withdraw charge is $2.50-$2.75 fee.
Julie (the owner) is one of the most hardworking people I've ever met. She's always there at 4am to bake the muffins and sweet goods. Shop opens at 7am and she is always friendly on top of her game and runs her business with grace, and integrity.
I fully support businesses like these. Only reason i give it 4 stars vs. 5 is because the environment inside is a bit outdated and sad, so while you MUST come and try the goods, not the funnest place to linger unless you sit at the bar (facing the street) or sit outside on the sidewalk tables (these always get filled first)! -

I really want to like this place more than I do. I keep showing up expecting something that I'm not getting.
The space itself is artsy and small, and seems to be pretty community based. The problem is that the hipper-than-thou clientele is too cool for community interaction, so the attempt kinda falls flat. Also, the london fog is way too sweet for me, even when I ask them to go light on the honey.
Its always a bit warm when I go in and the music is always a bit loud.
So, if you like small, loud, hot, hipster coffee shops that make very sweet drinks, this is your spot.
Oh well, at least its not starbucks. -

This place us awesome! I frequent here for coffee and occasional bite to eat. It has a chill and artistic environment, and a relaxed attitude from the workers. This place is very personable and it seems to have a lot of regulars.
The coffee is good its not so luxury. YUM! -

GREAT COFFEEE!!!!! And i am a picky snob. YUM. Also a ton of non-diary milk options.
Hubby had the roasted chicken sandwich on multi-grain w/ avocado, sprouts, tomatoes, and ton of other fun things on it.
LOVED my hummus/veggie on a spinach wrap! Sensible side salad... got the red pepper sauce on the side... YUM. spicy goodness.
Def be back. -

Had to add one more review now that I've had the sunset triangle breakfast bagel (with sprouts, tomato, bacon, and cream cheese-- strange but incrdible) and the croissant breakfast sandwich (with tomato, cucumber, cheese, egg, harissa, and lettuce) because I can't stop thinking about how delicious they are.
That's all.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Review from Andrew S.
Definitely a fan of this quaint place. Came here on a Saturday morning, and was pretty darn happy with everything all around. The cafe is right in front of the Silverlake farmer's market they have on Saturday's, so it makes for great people watching and a cool place to chill and cool off after doing some food shopping with the local farmers.
I had the croissant sandwich, which was make with fresh vegetables, egg, and cheese with a Harissa sauce. It was so good! The croissant was buttery, the egg fluffy, and the vegetables tasty. Add a large iced green tea, a laptop (free wifi btw), and a pair of ray bans, and I'm set for 5 hours to simultaneously work on my manuscript and watch the different people walk by.
I moved inside after a bit cuz it got too hot and found outlets and a cool red couch. The service is perfectly intermittent, and I found for $10, the food, drink, and atmosphere was way worth it.
P.S. There's a small blue shelf near the bathroom with books of all types in it that's free for customers to read. Nice little touch. -

If more coffee places were like this, I'd be a cup-o-joe addict!
I was running ahead of schedule for work and decided to stop in Mornings Nights...and I'm so glad I did. I got a regular iced coffee and it was rather satisfying. Then, to top if off, I saw they have several sweetener options (agave? honey? sugar? splenda?) all at your disposal.
I splurged by also ordering a blueberry muffin and it was, like me, warm and delicious. Plus, it was cheaper than that big chain (I dont wanna name names, but it rhymes with Schmarschmucks) and so much better tasting.
You haven't seen the last of me, Mornings Nights. I will be back. Oh yes, I will be back. -

Review from Mandy d.
When I moved to the Silver Lake adjacent ghetto, this is kind of what I thought Silver Lake was like, like a Santa Cruz in the midst of east LA. A tad hippie, a tad unpolished, but local, and nice.
With more exposure to the neighborhood under my belt, I came to realize that Silver Lake itself was more image conscious than I originally thought, and a little more LA then I would care for. When I travel into Silver Lake, I actually think about the clothes I put on, which is always in vain, because I have no style.
Not to say I don't like Silver Lake by any means, but my weekend morning coffee regimen has consisted of the Von's Hollywood's Starbucks because I'm usually too tired to care about putting on my Sunday Best and traipsing into the indie coffee shops of Silver Lake and Los Feliz.
But today I decided I really wanted the coffee shop experience. So I put on clothes and headed to Mornings Nights after reading the good reviews. I'm so happy I did. Mornings Nights is the coffee shop that has local art on the walls, local products for sale on shelves, good music at a nice level, and the baristas singing along, talking to each other, and looking like they actually enjoy their jobs. I really liked how laid back the feeling was here, a nice departure from some other places in the neighborhood.
The coffee I got was delicious (I'm not a coffee aficionado, but considering I drink my work's free coffee almost everyday, when I get a good cup I savor it.) and the soy milk is free, sitting on the counter with the other milks (oh the pleasures of local coffee shops). I also got the croissant sandwich, and this is what sealed the deal for me. The croissant was crispy and flaky and a nice large size. It is filled with eggs, cucumber, tomatoes, cheese, mixed greens, and some delicious chipotle (?) mayonnaise that brought spicy creaminess that really set off the whole sandwich. It was delicious.
The bill came to $9.50 ($2.50 for the coffee and about $7.00 for the sandwich). They also had some bagel options that were only around $2.50-$3, which I might have to try next time, because there will be a next time! -

BEST CAFE EVER! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it here! The food is wonderful, the coffee is great, the staff is so friendly! My favorite part about Morning Nights is they have ALMOND milk! For someone who is lactose intolerant AND can't really digest soy that well either this is HUGE. My favorite order: Chai latte with almond milk and the croissant breakfast sandwich. YUM.

Mornings Nights is a true neighborhood cafe. Sure, maybe the espresso drinks don't quite compare to Intelligentsia, but what they lack in award-winning baristas, they make up for in great food options, reasonable prices and a distinct lack of snobbery. That's enough for me to skip the line at Intelligentsia (and save a few dollars too).
My menu favorites are the breakfast on a bagel (on a croissant is even better, add fake bacon!), the green tea latte with almond milk (they'll make it with any milk you want though, I just prefer almond lately) and the Elvis bagel. Julie is always cheerful and makes you feel welcomed, even when they're super busy. They are very dog friendly too! -

It's a great little neighborhood cafe. The menu gives a wide variety of selections for both beverages and food. Since it was my first time there, I ordred my usual - Chai latte with soy over iced. The lady making my drink was super nice and very friendly.
Seating is located outside with umbrellas along the store front and there are 2 tables inside and a awesome looking counch.
Parking is metered and is off Sunset.
I found myself here as I tagged along with my boyfriend for his appointment. He was meeting someone there to "talk shop". I definitely want to go back and try the ever popular "London Fog". -

Great, quirky little find. I work at a studio just down the street, so I've started coming here regularly. It's small, with an eclectic decor and really sweet staff. The space is small and can get crowded, but I've found everyone is friendly so I don't mind.
Their hot and iced lattes are delish, and they even have almond and rice milk (in addition to dairy and soy), which is great. Iced tea is always good, especially in the recent hot weather. I have to admit my favorite part about this place is the $2.50 fresh toasted bagel of your choice with cream cheese and tomato, sprinkled with salt and pepper and I think a little crack. So addictive. I think I've ordered one every time I've set food in there...just too good to pass up.
If you live in the neighborhood, definitely check this place out. If you're just passing by on a whim after the farmer's market or just wandering the streets of Silver Lake, you're in for a treat! -

I miss this place. My regular order: egg, facon, cream cheese, and tomato on a bagel with harissa sauce on the side (which I always had to order longform, although I think they just recently named it). The best.

this place has become a local haunt to me. I LOVE IT!
The staff is pretty friendly, esp Julie!
they introduced me to two new things, Mint Lemonade and the Spanish Latte!
The Spanish Latte is espresso, and condensed milk with regular milk... it doesnt need to be sweetened which I LOVE.
The Mint Lemonade is too die for and keeps your breathe smelling fresh all day long after you drink it. Its especially refreshing on hot days.
the coffee is better than anywhere else in silverlake and the atmosphere is very home-y

I love this place. My friend is a big veggie person, so I am starting to. Their F.L.A.T sandwich was SOOOO good. (fake bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato). Seriously every bite was glorious. I was a bit sad when I got the the last bite, but I shall go back again to eat it again. I will venture out to different things on the menu, but F.L.A.T will definitely be my top faves.

I'm giving these guys 4 stars only because I think their sandwiches are a little pricey. Other than that, they are fantastic all the way around. Bobby my host/chef was real cool. Just a warm/friendly stylish guy (he also let me try a little excess shake that he was gonna have to toss anyway). They have a few couches, a few outdoor tables, and a few window counter seats. Free wifi. What more could you want. It was a great place to kill a sunny afternoon. I'll be back when I'm eastside.

Casual. YES!
So many of the coffee shop in Silver Lake are just too trendy for my taste. I need a little hole in wall every now and then. Mornings Nights is like hole in the wall.
The place is small--there are only 2 tables, some bar-counter space and a big, sexy, comfy red couch. In the back near the restrooms is a fish tank that makes a trickling sound of water so it sounds like a mini waterfall and is very soothing when working.
The iced vanilla latte's are yummy. Their bagels seem popular though I didn't try them. They ran out and more people kept coming in the door and asking for them so they have to be pretty tasty. I would love to try their food sometime.

This is a cute little coffee shop that I discovered while strolling the Silverlake Farmers Market this past Saturday. I just got a coffee, but they had many a tasty treat laid out & Happy Cow reports that they have a number of veg options (http://www.happycow.ne...). The reason we originally came in here was to find a restroom, which they have in the back through their little storage room. They have a couple of tables, a sofa, and two counters facing out the widow where you can people watch. They also have seating outside, where people were sitting with their dogs. (Silverlake seems like a very dog-friendly place... A+ for that!) There were two girls working, and both were very friendly. If I lived in the neighborhood, I can see visiting Mornings Nights on a regular basis.

Okay, this place is officially my new favorite cafe in LA, for the following reasons:
1. Iced London Fog - perfect for today's inexplicably warm November weather.
2. Bagels & Lox - assembled on your own, made to be open-faced, just the way I like it, good cream cheese & fresh lox.
3. Wacky regulars & easy-going staff - I usually feel pretty pre-judged when walking into cafes with discernible troupes of regulars but not here!
4. Easy parking - near Sunset, but not ON Sunset, metered parking all around.
5. Small, comfortable, un-fussy & worth what you pay.
And I don't have a dog, but if I did, I'd bring him/her here. -

I love this place mostly because the staff is always really really nice to me. Which is so much more than can be said for other area coffee shops.
Never been disappointed by the coffee, and the food is actually really yummy as well. There's definitely a slew of regulars here, and lots of dogs kicking it out front. It's my favorite place to watch the world go by from. Also a big plus that it is slightly back from Sunset Blvd. -

I'd passed by here for years, thinking it another hipsterian magnet, and I regret not having taken advantage of this local-est coffee joint. Now, I'm constantly dancing back and forth with someone else for Foursquare Mayorship.
Julie and the other delightful people here are absurdly nice and considerate, and know by this point that I'm likely to get either the iced Spanish Latte or the iced Hazelnut Mocha, but if I ask for iced coffee they'll recommend a dripped version, which is always better.
I shall limit food suggestions to two: the BBJ and the Tuna Roll. The BBJ is deceptively simple: a bagel, with butter and jam. Yet somehow, when warmed and pressed, it becomes finger-glisteningly magic.
The Tuna Roll is Omigod-worthy. It's tuna salad, yes, but there are capers in there, and little dried peppers, and harissa sauce, and it's beige and reddish and more than a little spicy, and it all goes in a croissant, and you're licking your fingers, and you should have stopped about halfway when you were full, but you won't, and don't blame me. -

Another cafe affair of mine - this place is cool but I only frequent it when the Sunset Junction is popping off on Saturdays until 1pm.
For all of you who like listening to the same rhythmic drumming for kids (I don't) and eating lamb shawarmas (I do!)...this place is a cool spot to relax and enjoy a quaint farmers market experience. -
Review from Mark S.
Every time I go to a mom and pop coffee shop, I'm always treated with this weird attitude, as if I'm not a regular - I'm not even a visitor. Rather, I'm an intruder. It's like I'm invading their private space, violating the laws of proxemics with my every movement. It's not smugness and it's not pretension...it's something else. Maybe because this place is full of waist-agitators. You know...waist...agitators...hips...agitators...hip. ..stirs...hip...stir........
I came here at 9 AM on a Wednesday morning. I know, it's hump day, and it's the morning, but when "morning" is in your store's name, you better be a morning person. Feel me? Anyways, I order a small coffee, and the lady dials in the register, $0.15, aka 15 cents. So I'm thinking, "Must be a special price or something" because you never know with mom and pop places - they go by their own rules and whatnot. I hand the lady a quarter, and she grunts at me, "One-fifty." So I take out a quarter and a dollar - no biggie...up until she reaches over and grabs it out of my hand. I'm like, "Geez, you grabbed that out of my hand like a Big Mac in front of an Ethiopian child." She takes my money and puts it in the register and sees that she did in fact put $0.15 on the register (she forgot to put a zero), and instead of giving me an apology, she gives out a resounding, "Oh," as in, "Oh you were right...but O-M-G if you think I'm gonna apologize."
Now, the coffee was aite, but the service sucked. Had she apologized for obviously entering in the wrong price, I would have wanted to hug that barista and stroke her hair as she weeped tears into my black Goonies shirt.
And she would be like, "Oh mama, I'm sorry. I try to do da best I can fo you. I just wanna make yooze proud of me mama." And I would have told her, "Oh child, don't you worry. I know yooze got it wrong, but don't cha worry girl, yooze special to me. Yooze my whole world."
Seriously though, she should have apologized. -

I eat here pretty often. Ever since I brought back a wrap instead of eating there, coworkers have been asking me to do pick ups - really healthy, veggie friendly menu. The food is fresh and delicious. I got the California wrap the first time I came, and it's kinda what I feel like eating every time I come. I've come to crave it often.
The coffee is good, the wifi is free - it's a little tiny but love it. The people around are always interesting and parking is a breeze. perfect little lunch joint! but not a lot of space. -
Review from Nette B.
Los Angeles, CA
I love this place! The food they make is delish, their iced mochas are my favorite and the croissants are huge. It's a great local place and I always meet interesting people here. The sidewalk gets packed but there is usually a seat available and people seam to share their tables, very good vibe here, no one will push you into the street for lack of space.
A tip for the girl whose tip was returned: It's good to know how much you're tipping your waiter, busboy and local barista; as they really do depend on tips. That said... tipping just a few cents on the dollar that you have leftover from your bill is kind of cheap. I know times are tough but if you can't afford to tip, go home and make your own coffee. If you are out dining, a 20% tip is recommended.
This place rocks! -

Hancock Park, CA
Everytime I've been to Morning Nights, it seems like all the patrons know each other. People play chess and other games outside, hang with their dogs, and sip on their delicious drinks. It definitely has a friendly, artsy, relaxing environment.
I've only had drinks here (totally yummy) until last Saturday. I had a tuna melt and holy moly it was the BEST tuna melt I've ever had in my life! It was on a perfectly toasted baguette! I asked Julie (the owner) how she got the bread so perfectly toasted like that and she said if she told me she'd have to kill me. Ha!
In a time when a cup of coffee or sugary drink costs more than $4-$5, Morning Nights prices are well under and worth every penny. I'm warning you though, you'd have to take a step back and think for a moment if you're totally undecisive, like yours truly. It's a big menu and I highly highly recommend the tuna melt.
Parking is on the street or metered only... I drove up one block in the neighborhood and easily found free parking. -

Ok this isn't Intelligensia and that is a relief sometimes. Don't get me wrong, the coffee at Intelligensia is superb, but sometimes you just want to grab a cup of coffee in the morning without waiting in line and being seen/scene.
I walk down there for a cup of coffee almost once a day and each time the people who work there are genuinely nice, it truly is a neighborhood gem. The coffee is STRONG and GOOD. So are the homemade pastries. Psst: If you are lucky enough to be there when there is fresh chocolate chip zucchini bread, try it! -

Morning night is the best! Julie is an awesome proprietor! This is my go-to coffee spot. And the food is delicious! Every time i eat bfast//lunch around here, i regret that i didnt just grab a sandwhich at morning light.Try the happy hippy on a croissant!!
There is an overabundance of cafes in this 'hood, other spots make a big deal about their great coffee - dont get me wrong, i love a good pour over with freshly roasted beans, but thats not the only drink i ever want. julie's can do that, but can also satisfy my thirst for dreamier concoctions like a dirty chai or cafe au lait with almond milk mmmmmmm nomnomnom -

Silver Lake, Los Angeles, CA
Nestled on sort of the coolest street in Silverlake, a little mini-avenue off Sunset, this tiny cafe is a hidden gem. The food is great, the sandwiches are fresh and awesome, and the vegetables are cut fresh for each order (i.e. no pre-sliced tomatoes sitting in a plastic bin).
The vibe is super laid back and friendly (very non-LA - a friend described it recently as being "just like Austin") and it seems like every person that walks in is greeted by name.
It's dog friendly (biscuits on hand for the pups waiting outside) and my only gripe is that it's too small with fewer tables than you'd like or need at lunchtime. -

Mornings Nights is a cute little coffee shop tucked away in an eclectic part of Silver Lake. It has been closed due to a fire last year but will reopen soon.
Coffee is fabulous and their prices are cheap. You'll see locals sipping cappuccinos, reading a book, typing away on their laptops or just chilling out people watching.
The owner has art displayed on her walls from different local artists in the area. The sandwiches & salads are great too. My favorite is the basil, tomato & mozzarella.
They have a farmer's market on the weekends and this cafe is the perfect place to relax & get some grub after shopping.
