For my 100th review I picked one of my favorite locations in San Diego.
My memories of Morley Field started in high school when we would venture down from North County for Cross Country meets. Morley is a great place for cross country running. Not only does San Diego hold their section CIF finals here, but Footlocker has been having the High School National Championships here for decades. The BEST High School CC runners from all over the country fly in to race at Morley Field!
Now that I live close to the park I run here a few times a week. I love the variety of options you have a runner. You can run trails, on grass, up hills, or keep a relatively flat route of you aren't feeling the hills one day.
If you aren't a runner you'll still enjoy yourself here. You can picnic and take in the sights. There is always something interesting to see, baseball games, velodrome riders/races, dogs going crazy in the dog park, people playing frisbee and or frisbee golf, catch, futbol, water polo.
Plain and simple: Morley Field rocks. Hip, hip- Hooray! -

I only go to the tennis complex but will explore other parts of the park soon.
This is the grand daddy of all the tennis facilities in San Diego and one of the best in the country.
There are a ton of regulars here that play and you can get a game anytime you want by signing up for the challenge court.
I think it takes time for the regulars to warm up to you but that is true for all of San Diego.
People in San Diego are usually a little aloof until they get to know you.
Once you are in the pack and accepted you are golden but it takes time.
This place is a great deal at 5 bucks for an entire day of tennis and the memberships are reasonable also. -

Ah, how I loved this place when I started running again. I ran the canyons, up and down, and through the various fields. The grass is well-maintained, the sporting fields are in good order, there's a velodrome for bikers, tennis courts, and a fitness course you can do with various calisthenics on offer.
Bud Kearns Memorial Pool is here, but it's never not full of old people and teams that destroy the free swim hours at will, so don't bother. Minus one star! There is an archery range, shuffleboard and a fishing casting practice area.
Bocce? Yep. Italian bowling is here. Grey folks abound! Some families, too. Frisbee golf is attached but not part of the park, really, and it is reviewed elsewhere.
Check it out and enjoy, but it's not the top of the park line, by any means. Still, the grass is green and soft. Bring a sweetie to suck face with and enjoy a view of the Coronado Islands past the Coronado bridge, a beautiful hidden feature of this wonderful place.Listed in: Things I Yelped First

Best park that i've been too in san diego.
I wish I grew up in the neighborhood adjacent to this park. I would have been in monster shape. This park as it all! I've spent most of my time at the dog park allowing the beagle have some fun. Before this i've checked out the pool once which was heated. Ok?
Last night Me and the loves were trying to debate whether to do the exercise path (various apparatus spread across this big park) or try the beginner trail for a nice 2.3 mi run! We choose the latter and boy were we not dissappointed.
This run showed us other sides of the park that we weren't aware of. An archery field? Bike tracK? frisbee golf? Ok? This park has it all! -

Great places for a barbie with friends! Just remember the 5-0's say no glass, no smoking. My recommendation, spiked lemonade :) Otherwise, one of my favorite places to get people together whether it's for "kickball practice" or just a reason to get together for delish eats and drinks and any sport of choice!!! :)

Awww...good ole' Morley Field! I can honestly say I have been to this place more than any other park or sports complex. I actually have a TON of fond memories here considering my dad brought me here all the time to workout for softball when I was little and into high school. That man would drill me until i wanted to puke! haha...good times!
I also remember coming here to watch a lot of my friends in high school when they had tennis matches, cross country meets, or soccer games. It was always the place to go after school to hang out since all my friends in were into these sports and we all carpooled, so I had no choice when I had an off season from basketball or softball. I am actually pretty athletic and can honestly say I have tried every sport there is but I am not a soccer fan anymore after I got kicked in the face back in 6th grade and I sucked in tennis back then because I swung it like a bat, but think I am much better now after practicing .
I still come to Morley at times to get in a nice run or take a walk with my child. It's a chill place to come play sports or workout or even have a picnic for the day. I actually remember my grandpa bringing me here to ride my bike a lot...he taught me how to ride without training wheels and after a couple falls, I learned quickly that it's better to stay upright on a bike! hahah So, from time to time, I bring my kid here to ride her bike and one day she might have to take a couple falls like i did, but she'll learn!
I actually brought my kid here awhile ago and she got a kick out of my horror story back when i was 10. I showed her the exact spot that my dad let me go down a hill with my brand new scooter on Christmas Day. He let me go down (without pads of course....we were old school i guess!)....and just my luck....my brakes aren't working, so as I am gaining speed, my dad is trying to run and catch up to me. I just remember going fast and heading into the street where the cars are driving by and then I guess he lunged onto my scooter just before I went out onto traffic and his shoe got caught in my tire, it flung me off and I landed on my head and face. I guess I blacked out for a minute and my mom and dad came running to me and threw me into the car and we headed to the emergency room! MERRY CHRISTMAS ANGIE! hahaha I ended up with two black eyes, a huge bump on my forehead, a scratched nose and a sprained wrist (not bad for such a nasty fall!)....My parents still have pictures of me and I always remind my dad of that day! We laugh about it now but my mom about killed him that day!! So needless to say, when we all go back there, my mom and I pad my kid up from head to toe and set her limits for riding! hahah
I have so many more memories of this place but it's a fun time and so much to do there. There is something for everyone and if you see a kid all padded up ...you know it's my kid! hahaha
Take the family here and hang out for a day! -

I wanted to add to Francis's comment about the "free swim". Definately not free! It's $5 per adult, 1.50 for children. We went here the past 2 days- very refreshing, hte lifeguards are nice, but kinda nazi-esque when it comes to enforcing their many rules.
