I think the place is getting better. I have been here many times in recent months, and here's what I think:

Service is attentive. They serve water in sizable glasses now, which is good for those of us who aren't ordering alcohol or some other large drink. I'm always thirsty when I go there for some reason.

Antipasti is a little different. They've subbed out most of the pickled items and done some breadsticks with various types of butters. I thought they were cheese before, and tried them accordingly. SURPRISE! I still like butter though, so it wasn't all bad.

Steaks are tasty. I found that they can put the peppersteak topping on literally any steak choice, My new favorite is the 12 oz filet mignon with peppersteak topping. You can't beat bacon on top of beef with pepper. That's like heaven, especially with the filet cut. My sides of choice are the creamed spinach and broccoli. Very tasty meal, I think.

Price is still up there, but in line with a steakhouse. The place is much more in line with the community now, and really feels like a destination. You can enjoy your meal out on the deck when the weather is appropriate, which I enjoy doing. The bar seems to be hopping as well, so if you're looking for a drink in a location classier than the Clayton Club, here's your place.

If you're holding back, go. If you're not, keep going. Keep the money at or near home, and keep local business alive.

We decided to go & try Moresi's after hearing so many good reviews from friends and family. We went on a Sunday night.

We ordered from the Sunday Supper menu which included a salad or soup and a glass of wine or brew with our meals. The salads were quite possibly THE smallest salads we had ever seen! And the menu did not say "small" house salad. These salads were literally served in saucers. This is unacceptable.

We asked what the server recommended for side dishes as both of our meals came with two sides. She raved about the glazed carrots as well as the scalloped potatoes. The scalloped potatoes were good, nothing special. But, the glazed carrots were not good. AND, our friends who were with us, and not eating, who love the carrots normally, said they weren't the same as usual. All in all, our friends told us everything about our meal was not what they were used to, and they come to Moresi's often.  The meat we ordered was nothing stellar, in fact, we both commented how many times we've had better. And for a cheaper price.

We will not be going back.

The reason we're giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because the service was alright and the atmosphere is awesome - we loved sitting out on the patio.

We just love Clayton (yeah and we moved here from Danville) and it's charming downtown which is in walking distance for us and really root of all the local businesses.
Moresi's is Clayton's 'Fine Dining' and is owned by the town hospitality king Ed Moresi (Ed's / Moresi's) Ed is a fantastic guy, you couldn't find a more accommodating and friendly person but we're here writing a review of the restaurant not the city or owner.

Let's start with the pluses, excellent and attentive service, they really do an exceptional job of creating a fine dining service level, wonderful atmosphere. The building itself; great outside patio and a charming classy interior, great feel and the bar, well stocked and a great selection of fine spirits.

Now the negatives; the food, just average at best, we keep coming back hoping it was just that meal or that dish but we've found out that's not the issue it's just average food. Their steaks really aren't anything to write home about, we've had equally taste and quality at Black Angus (which we do not like) and their premium sides that you order with your main dish are barely a step above supermarket deli sides. What really takes the food a notch below is the price, this place is pricey, very pricey and not even close to delivering food with worth those prices!

We really want Moresi's to be great, we just love Clayton and really like Ed it's just right now this establishment is just average at best, in our opinion; bring in a more experience chef with credentials and consult someone about creating a new wine list, the selections available are really below average.

I had this place on my radar for several years now.   I first heard about them in Diablo Magazine when I read a rave review that highlighted the chef's Tiramisu Martini.   Finally last night, we found our way to Moresi's Chophouse.

My wife and I sat outside for a couple of cocktails prior to the meal.   The setting is awesome and let me state here that I'd love to come back to Moresi's for drinks and appetizers.   The martinis I had were very good and my wife loved her Perfect Manhattans.

However, things got dicier in the dining room.   We started out by splitting a wedge salad.  I then followed that up with the lamb shank and macaroni & cheese, while my wife had the prime rib with corn & scalloped potatoes.

The wedge salad was beautifully presented and execute perfectly.   Up until now, they're still on course for a 5 star review.

Service throughout the meal was flawless, too.   Again, 5 stars top to bottom.    So how in the world do they end up with a 3 star review, you might ask yourself now?

    Nutmeg!!!

The chef or whomever made the cream sauce used in both the macaroni & cheese and the creamed corn absolutely killed the sauce with an overabundance of nutmeg.    It basically killed my Mac & Cheese.   My wife hated her creamed corn.

For those of you that have read my reviews for a while, you know I love my Mac & Cheese.    Well, at Moresi's I did something I've never done before.   I hate about 1/3 of the portion and actually left the rest and didn't bother to get it in a doggy bag.   Such was my disdain for the Mac & Cheese.

The lamb and prime rib were good and I really hate to shaft a local joint with a 3 star review, but fair is fair and I just feel like that was too big of a flaw to go unyelped.

Let me first off say that I am not a huge red meat fan, and this is still my favorite restaurant. I have been to this restaurant many times and my experience has always been wonderful. Whats great about this place is you could show up in dress attire or a sundress with flip flops and feel comfortable either way.

The service is wonderful everyone from the hostess, to the waiters/waitresses and bartenders are very friendly. The owner Ed is also extremely friendly and will poke his head over to check on your service as well as just to say hello whenever possible. He is always a presence at his restaurants which I cant say for many restaurant owners. I can guarantee that if you needed something even a glass of water Ed would be very happy to bring it to you himself.(However his staff is always on top of their game and has probably already brought your water without ever having to ask.)

The atmosphere alone is amazing. I have eaten on the patio(my favorite when its nice outside)many times. There is a fountain with flowers and great music always playing(don't worry its not that restaurant music that is so loud you cant hear the person across from you...its just a nice accent.)I often meet girlfriends here during the week for cocktails and appetizers.Inside the restaurant is equally great, it has an elegant feel without being stuffy at all. There are old black and white photos of the city of Clayton adorning the walls. The interior resembles an old house(actually it probably was) with separate rooms dividing off dining areas to give you a private yet not confined atmosphere.

Now for the food...I usually end up splitting the calamari for an appetizer with whom ever I am with. (Its some of the best Ive ever had...right up there with the stuff you get in Monteray. I usually get the half rack of ribs or the roasted chicken. Both are amazing. The ribs literally fall off the bone. They also have a great list of side dishes the creamed spinach is a must-way better that other high end steak houses I have been too. My boyfriend always get the pepper steak and believe it or not even though I usually don't order red meat I always end up eating his leftovers=) He agrees that this place is far better than some of the other upscale chophouses in Walnut Creek.

And last but not least they have the BEST margarita around...its called the growler margarita...amazing...I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

So good. The place has an simple, comfortable atmosphere. Sophisticated but not stuffy. You could dress in Prada or flip flops and jeans and be right both ways. Perfectly upscale and down market.

Had the braised spare ribs and polenta. Soooooo good on a cold night. Cocktails from the bar were spot on. Strong enough to know they meant it but polished to know they cared.
A great place to take someone special.

Our family comes here about 2 times a month. Always great service, always great food. We showed up for dinner on Friday night with no reservations. We ended up being the only ones sitting inside since everyone else was sitting on the patio where they serve appetizers and drinks.

I ordered the prime rib which I have have before. Their horseradish is EXCELLENT! Every bite had me tearing up and crinkling my nose, just the way I like it :)

The bruschetta appetizer is always delish. Also, asparagus rissotto is to die for, in my opinion.

For a special occasion, or an occasion where my parents want to treat me to dinner, this is a pretty nice place. It's pretty costly, but the food you get for it is worth it. Being a chophouse, they have steak. LOTS. OF. STEAK. They have a nice small 8oz baseball cut for the little tikes and a ridiculously large cut of spare rib for those with a large gut and a comparably large appetite. All of their cuts that once came from something that moo'ed is served with two sides of your choice (i recommend the creamed spinach and scalloped potatoes) and for a small fee you can get a family style plate of more special sides, such as mac and cheese.

Not to worry for you people who faint at the sight of red meat, their fish and chicken menu is nothing to be scoffed at. Their sword fish special is wonderful and i am a huge fan of their country fried chicken. These dishes are typically served with predetermined sides, but you can get anything you want as long as you have the $$$.

Anyways, lets document my last (and favorite) experience. We started the night, immediately seated and greeted by the owner and long time family friend Ed Moresi. Whenever he is in the restaurant he is sure to walk around and greet every patron making sure they have their refreshments filled and their food is prepared correctly. Back to the visit. Ed caught me staring at the cocktail menu very confused and was quick to offer me his suggestion of a Manhatten. Man that was a great drink. The servers brought us water, the antipasto plate and took our drink orders. After our whole party arrived we made our order, mine being the fried chicken, enjoyed some bruchetta. The food came out fast enough for us and we were allowed a good amount of time to test our meals before Ed was back to ask if everything was just as we wanted it. Content with our answers he let us enjoy and enjoy we did.

After the meal (and some dessert because we were celebrating) the check came in a neat little book that you can write your comments or a little note to the owners in. Always a great experience

I visited Clayton for a short getaway last weekend. For dinner, we decided to go to Moresi's Chophouse. I love when restaurants have that small town feel- everyone knows everyone. When you know someone, you often get the best perks :)

We were sat immediately in a nice table towards the back. The restaurant's walls are lined with historic Clayton pictures; charming! The menu had a wide variety of options, including seafood, steak, and short ribs. I ordered the braised short ribs over parmesan polenta. My entree was huge and I could not finish all of it! It was absolutely delcious- pork was braised well, perfectly tender, and the polenta was the perfect texture.

The service was friendly and attentive. The food was Delicious. My only suggestions are that they have a wider range of prices when it comes to wine by the glass (most were $10 and above...) and perhaps lower their prices a little. I suppose that's quite a suggestion... Overall, Moresi's was a fine way to end my first day in Clayton.

This was my first time in downtown Clayton and was really impressed by the area.  Friends who live in Clayton recommended to us Moresi's and we were glad that this was where we were having dinner.
We got there early and had drinks outside, which was charming.  We also shared the ahi tuna martini appetizer, which was good but messy to share.
Everyone who worked there was super friendly and nice.  Great atmosphere.
My friends shared the crab cakes and the steak salad, which they really enjoyed.  I loved the salmon and was grateful they changed my side to grilled asparagus.  I will definitely come back to Clayton and to Moresi.

I've know Ed, the owner, for years now.  He was my baseball coach when I was 14.  I'm 24 now, so I guess you can say we go back.  Still, I promise I'll be as unbiased as possible.

My girlfriend and I decided that we would give it a shot.  It's always exciting when a new restaurant opens nearby.  So we made the mile trek to Moresi's.

We had to wait around 15-20 minutes or so to be seated, but the wait was more than bearable do to the fact that they serve drinks and appetizers on the front deck which has an amazing view of Mt Diablo.  My girlfriend started with a martini and I had a manhattan, both drinks where good.  We also split an order of baked oysters, and while not stellar, they definitely hit the spot.

I didn't check out the entire restaurant, but what I saw of the interior was very nice.  Lots of dark wood = good look for a chophouse.

Our waitress was very nice and the service was attentive, but not pushy.  I ordered a New York steak which was looked and tasted good, not the best I've ever had, but still good.  The entrees actually come with a choice of sides which is nice.  I don't recall what my girlfriend had but I do know that she was happy with it because she's wanted to go back a few times since.

Overall it was a very pleasurable dining experience.  I would like to go back with a few friends and just enjoy a few drinks and some appetizers on the deck.  It really is beautiful.

So in summary the food is above average and the staff was friendly and attentive, but the small town vibe and the view from the deck is what really knocked it home for me.

Finally- a place for good steak in downtown Clayton. The decor is historic Clayton and the small town atmosphere  feels very warm and comfortable.

The wait during the summer can be long but the nice thing is that you can sit outside on the deck and have a drink (love the mojitos and peach sangrias) while looking at Mt. Diablo. In fact it may be hard to actually go inside and start your meal.

The steaks are very good, we generally go for the ribeye or fillet. The food here is definitely as good if not better than it's steakhouse counterparts in nearby walnut creek. As far as sides, we like the traditional baked or scalloped potatoes and the creamed spinach.

The service is great, the waiters are very friendly. There is also a private room in the back if you want to reserve for a group.

I took my wife here for (her first) Mother's Day with our 6-week-old baby.  We had just heard about the place and she was craving steak, so it fit perfectly.  The staff were more than gracious and the food was fantastic.  And of course, the owner Ed Moresi made sure everyone was comfortable.

Our meal included a complimentary antipasto, but I don't know if that was only for Mother's Day.  They also took our picture and mailed it to us for free to boot!

We ordered the prime rib steak, lasagna Bolognese and the New York cheesecake.

The total cost for both of our meals and dessert came in at under 50$.  That is an outstanding price for steak in my mind.  Will absolutely come again.

YUM!! I live about a mile from Moresi's and I've been wanting to go here for the last year. So finally we made up an excuse... a half year anniversary. Lame I know, but it you want an excuse to fork over ~$150 for 2 people, then this is a good one.

The staff was very friendly and attentive... I like to see how long it takes a wait staff to refill water and clear your plates, and check in on you. I give 5 stars for this.

We started with a glass of Champagne and the small cheese plate (no need for the large one for 2 people) . Then it was on to the meat. Both our steaks were perfectly cooked and exceptional quality. The side were pretty good too, but not as amazing as the steaks.

The wine list  has decent prices too. Unfortunately we were too full to try dessert, but the menu looked tasty.

I loved the small town feel. I want to feel comfortable in jeans and nice sweater or dress it up in a nice dress. All options were available here. I'd probably leave the ball cap at home though

5 stars because they deserve it.  There could be a few improvements from my point of view, but i would urge people to check this out if you can get out to Clayton.  I think the prices were reasonable.  My steak was cooked perfect.  Originally i said medium rare, but i am more of a medium guy so i sent it back and told them it was my fault, but the owner still came over to say hi and make sure everything was ok.  That was above and beyond.
They have neat little rooms and a cool front porch. All the staff is friendly.
    Drinks were good.
In my humble opinion, if they wanted to improve something here they are.  The waitresses are young and maybe they have a lot on their plate but service could have been a little faster.  There were a few times that we had empty glasses on the table for a while, which really they can make more money my shoving booze down our throats and it keeps everyone happy.  I would say get some experienced (maybe hot) waitresses.  The only other thing.  The creamed corn and creamed spinach were lacking something.  anyway, that being said, GO HERE.  i feel sorry for you if you don't at least try it.

I held a special work celebration at Moresi's.  Fantastic food, great surroundings, great people, great time!  And I was home in 5 minutes after dinner!
Moresi's even has vegetarian dishes on the menu which easily accommodated two of my guests.  The beef is great.  And the large portion of prime rib is huge!  I felt the thud on the table when it was served to one of my guests.
Moresi's has a room that will accommodate 10 people, cozily.  Consider it for a work event.

Cute small town vibe, but everything else was so wrong.... If you want be a high class restaurant then you should act like one.

We dinned out doors and was told to pick where we would like to sit and they would bring us the menu.. 20 minutes later we still didn't have a menu and it was not crowed.. After our waters were empty I went in and asked for some menu's SAD.. We should have left then.. We ordered, the food came out in a reasonable time. Our waitress was MIA, didn't ever bring our food, nor did she bring us silverware.. After weighting about 5 minutes I got up again to look for silverware and napkins.. The ribs Yuck, over loaded nasty BBQ sauce. The scalloped potatoes where 3/4 processed cheese that seemed microwaved. Ahi tuna smelled like fish, I was scared to eat it. Our water and drinks were empty the bus boy did a refill, where was our waitress? She come to bring us our $100 bill of crap food and crap service.. We didn't leave a tip... tip-- Thanks In Promptness was not delivered. I would never dine in a fake yuppie restaurant like this ever again. They made us feel as we weren't good enough for the establishment..

I feel that Clayton over steeped it boundaries by letting Ed Moresi Mudville own two establishments with in walking distances from each other.. Can we say Monopoly????

We explored this place last night for dinner and it was exactly what we were looking for.  Small town charm with excellent service and great food options even for someone like me who doesn't enjoy meat.  The service was top notch and the fact that the owner was coming around to tables to check in with the guests was a very nice touch.  A great place for a date, or a nice night out.  We will definately be back.  Oh and if you are a creme burlee fan they have one of the best I have ever tried and I am a bit of a creme burlee snob.  Only downside was it is a little pricey given the economy but not as bad as some steak places I've been to.

I was recommended this place while on a trail ride with Isabella farms just out of Clayton. The aesthetic here is very pleasing, the service... young kids, very polite and helpful but without a lot of experience. The food was good, however, I only had the strip-loin appetizer (spending the day in the hot sun had baked the usually substantial appetite out of me). It was very tasty and perfect for my appetite at the time, my friend had the house salad with the filet which she said was fairly good as well. Would definitely come back for the Sunday specials to try a more substantial dinner and possibly sit out on the deck on a sunny afternoon or early evening.

Out for a night with the husband. These are precious times when you have two little ones. I am therefore more finicky on these outings. Proprietors beware!

We arrived about 815 PM on a Thursday night. Outdoor seating was crowded, but we chose a seat by the window inside, as I was a little chilly. We ended up with a whole room to ourselves, which was nice.

The martini I ordered was a little on the watery side. Too many ice crystals, as in shaken way too much.

House salad was terrible. I mean TERRIBLE. Wilty lettuce, too much dressing, two crumbs of cheese. Waste of chewing motion.

Entrees were good, even though they swapped our cooking orders (my meat came medium when I ordered it medium-rare, and vice-versa for my husband). His filet-mignon was very nice, cooked just like I like it, very tender. My peppersteak was a disaster of half-gristle, although the part that was edible meat was good. The bacon and pepper "topping".... jury is out on that one.

The sides were pretty good. I had the scalloped potatoes which were creamy and cheesy, if a little salty. The carrots were glazed, but not too sweet, really very good. The creamed spinach was meh.

A berry tart for dessert was very tasty, and hit the spot.

Service throughout the evening was right on target, and everyone who worked there was very nice. Towards the end of the evening, there was a lot of shit-talking and swearing going on at the bar, which isn't the biggest deal for me, but could ruin things for those who are a little more touchy; in any case it lacks professionalism. Save details about your hookups and out-f-bombing each other for after closing!

I'd go back, but wouldn't expect much. The food was decent, though not worth the price. But if someone else was paying, and it was a nice summer night... sure, why not.

I am a Clayton resident and big supporter of Moresi's Chophouse and all the  restaurants in the re-energized Clayton downtown.  However, I have to be 100% unbiased and honest in my opinion.  Moresi's is a fantastic restaurant and wonderful addition to the downtown, but it is not quite (yet) a 4 or 5 star establishment.

Sure, the decor is very nice the waiters are friendly and Ed (the owner) is very gracious.  The steaks are pretty good, but I would not say "amazing".  My favorite is the Fillet Mignon which is a hockey puck style cut.  I give credit to Ed for changing from the Fillet "center bone" cut and switching to the much better hockey puck style steak.  The appetizers are also pretty good.  I also liked the Chophouse salad and Wedge which feature very generous portions.  I wasn't amazed by the side dishes that are included with your steaks.

The place has a very homey feel and it is a very comfortable dining experience.  You may ask then, why not 4 or 5 stars like the other reviewers?  Well, I disagree with the other reviewers, because I did think the prices were a bit high, not outrageously high, just a bit high for the quality of the overall experience.  I have eaten at Moresi's 3 times now with my wife and the bills have averaged about $150-$175 for both of us with 1-2 glasses of wine each.  I have nothing against spending that kind of money on a nice dinner, however then the comparisons must start.  This probably is not the most fair comparison, but I could spend about the same amount of money to eat with my wife at Prima in Walnut Creek.  No knock on Moresi's, but Prima's experience was totally 5 stars, the food, the wine and the service.

I am still going to eat at Moresi's and I am sure with time they will earn a 4th or 5th star.  :)

Loved it. Had my Mothers Bday here. I had t_bone with Petite Sirah. Mom had salmon and Chardonnay, My Lady had salad and Crabcakes. We sat on the deck and it was great, minus the flies. The manager was great checking in and thanking us. Great service. NO RESERVATIONS on Deck so come by 5.

I grew up in the Clayton, Walnut Creek, Concord area and had the chance to check this place out at a birthday dinner w/ my dad.  It's in a nice, refreshing setting in old Clayton with a good outdoor seating area.  Even though it was a Friday night, it wasn't too crowded and the staff/owner were super friendly to everyone in the restaurant; locals and first timers alike.

The food/menu reminded me a little of Town in San Carlos, w/out the yuppie/pretentious factor of some of the patrons.  I had the fillet, which was perfectly cooked.  What's with the trend these days to cook steaks one stage rarer than I order.  Rare here meant rare and not blue.  Same for my dad.  Medium meant medium and not medium rare.  The sides were great and generous in size, and the wine list was good with generous pours on wine.

I've not yet been to their older restaurant across the street (Mudville's Grill), but this place is one I'll go back to anytime I'm in the area.

Ed Moresi and his side kick Mac run a great place. The "porch" is a great place to end a busy day with a drink and appetizer. The view of Mt. Diablo doesn't get any better.  Oh, by the way the steaks are the best in Contra Costa County.

Hate to have to only give this place 3 stars. I really wanted to love it. Small town charm. Owner walking around saying hello. Outstanding bartender. Nice patio. The perfect setup.... until the food:

    - bruschetta. decent recipe but on awful toast/crackers. ruined it.
    - salad. not the freshest lettuce. so so.
    - steak. ordered the filet. just didnt deliver that filet flavor and was a little fattier than what a filet usually us.

we'll try it again since we are eager to love this charming place.

This is a hospitable bistro, lacking epicurean depth but with a comfortable vibe. A relaxing, unpretentious atmosphere and personable staff, and that goes for everyone I interacted with. Unexceptional menu and spotty preparation, but high quality meats. There were some service mistakes. The prices seemed 5% or 10% high. Expect four yuppies to spend $220-$300.

Drinks: One of us had a specialty cocktail with fresh juices and rum, and liked it. As far as spirits though, the choice was limited to about three of each of whiskey, gin, etc., so not an exceptional bar for liquor aficionados. Since we brought wine we didn't notice what bottles they stocked. I must mention that the vodka martini and the gin martini were switched and placed in front of the wrong people, discovered upon tasting.

Food: of the comfort variety, entrees ranging from Kobe burger, fried chicken, several fishes, to ribs (not smoked) and aged steaks and prime rib. There were high price tags, as much as $49, on the large cuts of beef and of Lamb. This was offset by an equal number of reasonably priced smaller cuts and other offerings as well. The meats were good and satisfying. The oysters rockefeller were good, the roasted artichoke not so much, being leathery-undercooked.  Some of the side dishes were spotty as in the escalloped potatoes, where the chef seems to have not fully grasped the essence of the classic dish, and the uninteresting creamed spinach, and others such as the grilled asparagus, were good.

    We skipped dessert and coffee.

Three cocktails, two appetizers (plus artichokes which they comped), four entrees, corkage, tip and tax: $225.

The waitress knew very little about the food preparation, so she had to ask. She explained that she was new. She also forgot to bring the condiments that she asked me if I wanted. Nice touch was a guest book that was presented with the check, in which to log our thanks. The music was mid-century American songbook done by the lesser known stylists.

Because it was just nice there, I'd come back, but probably just order from the lower end of the menu.

The time and thought put into the decor at Moresi's was well worth it.  The place has a warm welcoming feel.

Six of us had drinks and dinner and the food was delicious.  The choice of sides is a nice idea and the scalloped potatoes are outstanding.  I had the shrimp scampi which was above average but others who had steaks raved about them.

The service was great, not overbearing and not absent when needed.  I noticed that the owner, Ed Moresi, stopped at every table.

I had heard that the prices at Moresi's are outrageous.  I found that not to be true.

This is THE place we go to every time my husband and I visit the in-laws.  The drinks are amazing, the food is incredible, and the father-in-law (a dessert) is one of our tastiest indulgences.  We always enjoy our server and the owner often brings at least one round of drinks or dishes for us.  You MUST go here if you are in the area!!! (note: it is closed on Mondays)

What a wonderful place! The staff is great...you feel like they have been your lifelong friends. The food was incredible, my only complaint being that they overcooked a medium rare filet mignon. I expected a $30 filet to be cooked properly and be pink, but it was a solid medium. The side dishes are incredible and the banana/rum dessert was heaven. It is a bit on the pricey side, but worth it for a great meal in a comfortable environment.

Overall:  Moresi's is a great little place in the nice laid back town of Clayton.  Clayton is a perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding towns (even downtown Walnut Creek is crazy these days).  My recommendation is to eat on the patio.

    Review:
My wife and I recently went here on our anniversary instead of our normal special occasion haunts of Ruths Chris, Vic Stewart's or Bing Crosby's.  Overall it was a fine meal for a reasonable price (about $40 less than Ruth's Chris).   We started our appetizer and drinks on the patio with the amazing view of Mt. Diablo - the service was excellent and the food was great.   We then moved in to the dining room for dinner where our service plummeted to that of Denny's and the food stepped down a few notches as well.

The food at Moresi's is actually -good-.  It isn't stellar though and my New York wasn't the best I have had.  While the steak itself beat Morton's hands down, it still wasn't as good as the one at Ruth's Chris.   The steak fries, however, were cooked perfectly.

In a test against Casa Orinda's amazing fried chicken, my wife decided to order Moresi's version and see how it turned out.   She was happily surprised to find that they cook a mean bird there with a perfect  crispy, not-too-thick, all around batter.

The total bill with a four cheese bruschetta, large new york steak, sangria, glass of wine, iceberg wedge, soda and the fried chicken (with anniversary comp of the wine) was about $90.00.    In contrast, our similar visit to Ruth's Chris two week prior rang in at about $130.

If it wasn't for the poor service in the dining room I probably would have dropped another star on these guys... but when your paying those prices for food, the service better compliment the cost.
