I've been a farmers' market fan forever but it was only a couple years ago that I decided to try Morell's Bread. I guess I thought it would be over-the-top health-food-store-type-bread. Well, only if that means absolutely delicious. We are addicted to the sesame bread and I have told Edwardo if he ever decides to do something other than bake his wonderful bread, I'll have to buy a bunch of freezers and line the garage with them so I can stuff them full of sesame bread! I don't tend to freeze food but we always have a few loaves at the ready, that way. Wood-fired bread is a major treat. Edwardo's is made with the sort of care that produces something quite special. And, it is organic!

As a college student, I try to be a frugal as possible, but yesterday I couldn't resist buying one of Eduardo's breads. Just had my first piece and have to say it is absolutely delicious! I tried the multigrain pan loaf. Moist on the inside with a good crust!
The extra few dollars that you pay over a cheesboard loaf helps support a really nice man's small quality production and you definitely get your moneys worth in terms of flavor and density. Thank goodness for Berkeley's Farmers Market--I look forward to trying more of his stuff! -

Omg, thank you for making a scone that is the healthy equivalent to the high fat/sugar scones that predominate almost all bakeries. Not only did he make the scone, but he made it very much to my liking. I had the strawberry scone which had around 10 ingredients, evaporated cane juice was low on the ingredient list (keep in mind the scone is not as sweet as your probably used to). I loved how fluffy and moist my scone was, and I did not feel yucky after wards. I can eat scones after all!!
My sis had the multi-grain scone which has a crunchier texture and is not as fluffy but still moist. I did not try the breads, but they looked appetizing...next time for sure.
Once I go back and try the breads I will update my review and perhaps add another star! -

As I am typing this, I am eating some of the most unbelievably delicious Multigrain loaf EVER! I recently purchased this lovely heavy loaf from Morell's. This Is easily the best bread company I have stumbled across, from here to my home in Philly.
I frequent the Berkeley Farmers market that takes place on North Shattuck every Thursday. For some reason I never stopped to take a gander at the breads at the Morell's stand. I finally did and to my surprise, not only are the breads and other baked goods organic, but they are vegan as well. FINALLY!!!!! A fresh naturally leavened bread that is organic and vegan!!! The way bread is meant to be made!
Thank you Morell's!!! You now have a regular customer!
They have a wide range of different breads, rolls, scones, bagels etc. Check em out!
They are at most Farmers markets in the bay area.

Eduardo Morell sells his bread at the Berkeley Farmers' Market on Saturdays and Thursdays. One of the other vendors recommended his bread, saying that it was "the best." I've tried the xapata (which seems to be another word for ciabatta) several times, and I've also purchased one or two of the other breads.
You can learn quite about about the bread and its makers from the Morell web site http://www.morellsbrea.../.
To paraphase a recent review of Blue Bottle, I'd say that Morell's Bread is a step up from generic locally-produced bread (Grace Baking Company, Semifreddi's, even Acme II) in the same way that the locally-produced bread is a big step up from industrial bread that comes pre-sliced in long plastic bags. Roughly speaking, I'd put this bread in the same class as freshly-made Cheese Board bread and most of the bread that's actually baked in the original Acme bakery that's next door to Cafe Fanny. I actually prefer some of the Acme breads to the Morell breads that I've had so far, but this may be more a question of taste than anything else. -

Eduardo's breads are fantastic. Baked in a genuine wood-fired oven (I've seen it with my own eyes), and made with the freshest ingredients, it's pretty hard to beat these breads.
His scones are especially amazing, particularly the ones that have moist, juicy pieces of fruit in the middle. The sesame bread he bakes is one of my favorite breads anywhere.
And if you're into slow food, all natural ingredients, and supporting local businesses -- Morrell's is a trifecta for you. -

Awesome toothy, wholesome and healthy bread - I love his multigrain loaf and multigrain scone - full of whole grain goodness, flavor and texture. Their bread is really unique - healthy AND flavorful (for fans of whole grains - Wonder Bread fans can go somewhere else!).

Morell's Bread is a wonderful, family-owned business that everyone should support. Besides which their bread is delicious and stays fresh for days (and freezes well too). The prices are very reasonable.
Eduardo Morell bakes his bread in a brick oven housed at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, an environment rich with nature and creativity -- values that come through in his bread. I can always count on a stimulating conversation when I go to pick up my order. Buy from Eduardo, get a great product at a great price and make a friend. -

I tried Morell's Bread from Berkeley Farmers' Market several weekends ago and both my husband and I were very disappointed. I bought a scone and a cinnamon raisin bagel.
The scone: The person selling me the scone told me it had been made that morning, and perhaps that's true, but the scone was so hard! And, it didn't have much flavor.
The cinnamon-raisin bagel: Oh god, where do I begin? There were no more than 3 or 4 raisins in the whole bagel and I could barely taste the cinnamon. And the bagel was not crispy on the outside at all.
Overall, both the bagel and the scone seemed like they were mass produced with little regard for quality. -

I love this bread company. My favorite is the Full Belly whole wheat. It has amazing flavor, it's dense not floofy, and so perfect for thick cut toast or a big hunk with soup, or even sliced thin for sandwiches. I think another reason I like the Full Belly wheat bread is because I feel good buying bread made with local grains/flour. The price is right for the quality. Pick some up next time you are at the farmer's market.
