Review from Ian L.
I tried scheduling an appointment for smog check through their website but I never got a reply so I just decided to wing it:
Saturday
7:55 AM - Called More Joy to find that they have a $40 smog check and no appointment necessary. +1 For answering the phone before business hours!
8:00 AM - Arrived at More Joy to find their lot crammed full of cars but Cesar promptly takes my renewal notice and has a mechanic take my Hyundai Accent into the garage.
8:10 AM - Sitting on the bench outside the office in the fresh morning air watching SaMo come alive, noting the brutal sun .. it's going to be a warm day =)
8:19 AM - The mechanic pulls my car in front of the office and I go inside to pay Cesar. Super fast and professional! Cesar seems like the guy you could easily grab a beer and chill with!
8:20 AM - Pulled out onto Pico to begin my weekend!
I left with More Joy knowing that my car had passed as well .. get it? -
Review from Brian P.
I took my car here because I needed some routine maintenance done and live close by. Staff is extremely polite and friendly. They were also quick and good with calling me back with repair reports. They were even nice enough not to charge me for a 2 hour investigation they did (research and trouble shooting my car's ac) when they realized it wasn't broken but rather suffering from poor design. Very classy!
Only negative is that their prices are a tad high. My water pump is on the way out and was quoted $330 to replace it. I called a few other places and there was another shop close by willing to do it for $240 (even better yelp reviews). Maybe aftermarket parts? Not sure.
MoreJoy is a great shop tho and I'd consider using them again. Guess for big jobs might be cheaper to look around tho. ** They do take 10% off for AAA. Make sure to ask. -

The rating is actually 3 1/2 stars
I have a soon to be a lemon car and someone recommended me to go to More Joy.
I rate 5 stars for customer service. It's definitely 20 times better than going to that shitty-ass Firestone on Lincoln near the 10fwy. And because of their great customer service I'll probably go back there for oil changes plus it's walking distance from where I live.
I had to get an oil change and my back brakes fix and Caesar told me that in a month I need my front brakes too. I told him fix what is needed and give me a price for the front brakes. He quoted the fronts brakes for $260. So, I decided to call Samo Wheel & Brake Service (which is across the st from More Joy) and they quoted me $160 and that is the reason why I give More Joy 3 1/2 stars . They are a bit pricey. But it is the price for convenience, good service, and to fix my car in a timely fashion. -

The Good:
Takes Saturday appointments.
Friendly service on phone and in person from Mark.
Drove me home and picked me up when my car was ready.
Car came home freshly washed, including the tires.
The Bad:
Mark informed me that my 2005 Prius, which only has 30,000 miles, had rear shocks that were "leaking" and needed to be replaced. He also recommended replacing the front struts, although they looked fine, because they were "cheap." He implied they could go bad in the near future. He quoted me $1500 to replace the suspension system.
The Ugly:
Skeptical, because I hadn't noticed any change in my car and it was driving fine, I took it for a second opinion to Dave Frost Automotive, which is owned by a former Prius mechanic.
After inspecting and testing the car at no cost, Dave acknowledged a bit of fluid on my rear shocks, but said they were functioning perfectly and didn't need to be replaced. He encouraged me to bring it back in a year for another free inspection, or sooner if I noticed any change.
Guess where I'll be taking my car for service in the future??
(Maybe this shop should rename itself More Oy Auto Repair.) -

Been a customer for 7 years. Cesar and Mark rock! Amazing customer service. Honest dependable auto servicing and repairs. Fast. Free car wash with every service. Prices are not the cheapest but nowhere near dealership rates. Found them through the reviews on car talk (click n clac).

Best service ever! Just stopped by to have my low beam headlamps replaced on my suv and it took literally 5 minutes and cost a fraction of what the dealer authorized service center wanted to charge! They were so pleasant and professional! Highly recommend!

Amazing service. On a day when their lot was full at 11am I had my tail light replaced in 5 minutes. "Just pull your car around front." The tech greeted me, popped the trunk, swapped the light, asked me to step on the brakes and then smiled, "All good. We'll see you next time". When I asked how much it was going to cost he simply replied, "Don't worry. Next time."
That was my first experience with More Joy automotive and, as he implied, it certainly wont be my last. -

Top notch. Auto repair is so scary. Haven't we all been ripped off by one at some point in our lives? Not here. These are honest, good efficient mechanics. I've been servicing my car here since it came out of warranty 5 years ago. I've come in a couple of times expecting a big repair only to be told it was something minor. They are always courteous and helpful. I've referred several people to them and everyone reports back happy.

I was originally thinking of taking my car to the local Santa Monica audi, but decided not to because it had bad yelp reviews. Then I did some more yelping and found More Joy.
I took my Audi to Cesar at More Joy after my check engine light went on, and glad I did. He was really great and fixed my car for probably a fraction of the cost the Audi dealer would have charged me (their prices are competitive). Its been a little over a week and so far my car is still running great so no repeat appointment for a problem not fixed correctly. He even fixed my tail light for free.
I'll be taking my car there in the future. -

After reading lots of reviews, I chose to take my beloved Mercedes CLK320 convertible, affectionately known as Cordelia, to More Joy for a front brake job. Everyone quoted me about the same price but More Joy offered a AAA discount and their name makes me HAPPY!
I was nervous about taking Cordelia to a new place. It was the first time I needed work done and I wasn't about to pay dealer rates. I had no need for concern ~ the place just felt good. The employees were happily productive without the typical "I'm so busy, don't bother me" attitude. Ceasar got me all set up, said he'd only do a brake fluid flush if it was needed and a pleasant man named Javier drove me home. I didn't have any feelings of apprehension as I left Cordelia in their capable hands.
Javier picked me up that afternoon and I found a sparkling Cordelia, complete with shiny tires waiting for me. About as easy as it could be and the brakes are smooth and solid.
GREAT JOB! Will definitely return to More Joy for any other repairs. -

wow! I've been a customer here for over six years, I was surprised to see any type of review that wasn't 5 stars! Mark and Caesar are amazing and, having done automotive repair myself in the past, I find their diagnostics spot on! Even for a simple oil change, Mark has arranged for me to be dropped off and picked up! I swear I drive by 10 shops en route to 'More Joy' but never once have I thought to stop anywhere else. It's hard to find a reputable shop nowadays, but I'm not about to test the waters elsewhere.

I've had many experiences with auto shops trying to rip me off..and being really dishonest in order to earn an extra buck. Also, I have found that dealerships do a lot of extra stuff that is not really necessary in order to maximize profits.... not More Joy Auto.. I found them very friendly, honest, they will explain things to you, and give you a fair price.
I have a 2004 BMW 330ci and initially I was concerned with not taking my car to a BMW dealership, because I felt ONLY BMW would be able to give me the best service for their own cars and do the best work.. NOT TRUE according to my research. BMW dealerships know people feel more comfortable taking their baby to dealerships and they bank on that BIG TIME. One big way I believe dealerships make money is they do all kinds of unnecessary fluid replacements and extra stuff, they say you should do... but really, you could live without it.
Bottomline, I found my BMW runs just as good as it did when I got it serviced at a BMW dealership AND I saved a significant amount of money! -

I'm overdue in writing about More Joy. I've been going to them for years. They are my neighborhood fix it shop--just a few blocks away. You can't get more convenient than that! But in addition, these guys are the best. And not just Cesar and Mark who sit at the desk, but also the guys who work the cars. They (ok, the guys at the desks) know me by name, treat me like a friend, and I trust their honesty. You can't buy that kind of competency--can you? Both my husband and I take our cars to them--a Honda Odyssey and an Audi A4. I wish all businesses were like this one.

My stupid check engine light came on and so, naturally, i got onto yelp to see where I should take my car. More Joy was one of the closer shops to me so I gave them a call. I asked Cesar if they charged for reading the codes and he said they didn't (BTW - I learned that you should never be charged for getting the code read for your car. It takes like 5 seconds to do and that code reader can be purchased on ebay for like $30. DONT PAY ANYONE FOR READING IT). I brought my car down and he checked everything out in about 5 minutes. He was really thorough and explained the problem to me. He even added some break fluid at no charge.
I didn't end up getting my car serviced (I would've if I had an extra $300 floating around right now), but if I needed to right away, I would've trusted Cesar and the rest of the guys there. He was incredibly nice and honest and about the estimate. I called around before (I knew what the problem was before I went in, but I needed to get the exact code reading) and so I knew their rates are not insane or anything. Plus if you're a girl... well, let's just say car shops aren't the nicest or most honest with you. Do a little homework so you know what you're getting into and so they can't rip you off. -

I usually do not write reviews, but after having my 06 Lexus IS 350 (72K mil) serviced at More Joy (funny name), I felt compelled to. I did not want to go to the dealer, because I would have spent about $1300.00 for the service. Because I love my car, and plan to have for many years to come, I did not want to miss a scheduled maintenance.
So I did the Google search in my zip code, found Yelp, and found this place. They had 40+ reviews, and all positive. Myself being skeptical, I thought for sure I was going to be the one that was not going to have a good experience, boy was I wrong!
Cesar was the guy that answered the phone, and I dealt with when I dropped off my ride. Friendly and attentive was Cesar, as well as everyone I came into contact at the shop. I was contacted as promised, and the car was completed when they said it would be.They run that place as good as the dealerships, but without having to take out a second loan on my car to keep it running to its optimum performance. They completed everything that needed to be done for a little over $400.00
These guys are the best, fair and honest. I will continue to have my business for many years to come no matter what I drive. -

More Joy gets a full FIVE STARS.
if I could give them six stars, I would.
Cesar is the most honest mechanic you will ever find. He and his staff truly care, and it shows in the work, the attitude, and the prices.
Months ago, I brought my Jeep in for repair. Unfortunatly, the problem was internal in the engine -- It would need to be replaced. Way too expensive to do, and not worth the cost of a new engine for a 7 year old Jeep... But cesar took the time to research a rebuilt engine (the cost was still too prohibitive) and when I came back to get the jeep (it still ran, but barely... I wound up selling it for salvage) he only charged me $50 for his time. Talk about honest and fair!!!
Now, I brought my new (well, new to me..) vehicle in for brakes, and to check out the noise coming from the wheel... Needed a new axle, CV boot, housing, etc. Glad he caught it, as it could have been serious trouble if the wheel came off while I was driving!! This is a problem the former owner of the car knew about, and the other mechanics couldn't figure out what the noise was. Someone could have been seriously hurt.
Cesar checked out the rest of the car for me, to make sure nothing else was wrong, and found everything else to be in tip-top shape.
So, with a new axle, new CV boot, housing, and an oil change, air-filter change, and oh yeah, the bakes... (It was metal-to-metal, so it needed rotors and pads) altogether cost me $1080... Very fair and reasonable for the amount of work & parts involved.
Oh, and they even washed & vacuumed the car!
Whenever I need service, or someone asks me if they know a good shop, I can now say, "Yeah, I have a guy..." and point them here! -

This review is extremely overdue. These guys are angels in my book. I have driven in with NO notice 3 times and 3 times they have gone over my car with a fine tooth comb for the sound or leak, fixed it or tinkered with the this or that that was hitting this or that. and they fixed SIX nail holes on my tire. they did not charge me for this which is just nuts, I did tip them nicely, but did not last time as I had no cash on me and it was just a this or that hitting a that or this. But in terms of being able to TRUST THEM? Oh definitely!!!!

These guys were awesome! Honest, friendly and professional.
My 2004 Nissan was making some suspicious noises going over rough roads, and I just had the front struts replaced ~1 year ago. They found that some of the suspension bolts were mildly loose, and lubricated the suspension...and they did this for FREE! After driving the car home the suspicious noises were gone.
Most dealerships and commercial auto shops would have charged at least $80 just to look at the car.
I'll definitely be going back to them for all my auto repair needs! -

These guys are great.
I had a dismal experience at Santa Monica Ford trying to get my rear brake lights replaced, which should be a simple, inexpensive task. They wanted to charge me $60, and it was going to take them 2 hours.
I went over to More Joy. They took care of me immediately - literally no waiting time. It took them 10 minutes to replace the lights and they did it for free.
I was so happy with their service I was eager to leave the mechanic a big tip. That's the way to do business. They are professional, nice, and they don't slap you with BS charges. -

I took my Mazda here under the recommendation of none other than Yelp because I needed a headlight fixed and an oil change.
These guys are top notch. All the Yelp reviews held up. Cesar was friendly and honest about what needed to be done and understood that everyone has different priorities when it comes to life, cars, and spending unnecessary money.
My headlight was missing a part so they had a local Mazda dealership fax over the info on what it needed and had it fixed, ready to go, and WASHED within 2 days.
What a great experience, I highly recommend this place for anyone who's looking for honest mechanics on the west side or in LA, for that matter -

Not doubt their nice. But nice doesn't fix my car.
I was referred to More Joy by Volkswagen Santa Monica after purchasing a car that started leaking transmission fluid.
VW/SM said that More Joy had just done some transmission work on my car and if it was leaking I needed to call them.
So I call them ...I take my car in, they look at it and say its a plug that's loose and that's why its leaking. I leave my car...I pick my car up thinking it's been fixed and go home. A few days later it's still leaking.... I take it back.... they look at it and say it's the seal/gasket and they will fix it, i just need to leave it for a few days. I pick up the car when it's "fixed" and drive home.
MY CAR STILL LEAKS TRANSMISSION FLUID!!!!
I don't know what kind of relationship Santas Monica Volkswagen has with More Joy but I think it's definitely a rotten one. -

When my DMV registration renewal arrived and I saw that it was time once again to get my car smogged, I immediately freaked. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my 98 Nissan Pathfinder, but I knew it had a few issues that might not make it through a smog check.
I really wanted to be able to hold on to my car for at least a couple more years, so I took it to More Joy to see if there was anything that could be done. They were so nice despite the fact that I came in acting kind of spazzy and neurotic. They took care of the problem quickly and, thanks to them, I passed my smog check and can have at least two more years with my baby. -

I took my car here this past Saturday on my brother's recommendation. As they were kind of enough to warn me over the phone, they are a little pricier than the average car repair place because they do take extra care of the vehicle.
I had the oil changed, tires rotated and filled, and they also cleaned the brakes and filled up the windshield wiper fluid, and the total was $110. They informed me of the state of all the brakes and said probably the next time I have my oil changed I would need them replaced - always a good sign when they are honest about how much work your car needs/doesn't need.
They were very pleasant the entire time, and when they returned my car they had given it a fantastic hand wash AND vaccumed the inside - probably the first time my car has ever come back from the shop looking better than when I dropped it off! They weren't kidding when they said it over the phone - my car was is great hands, with mechanics who actually give a crap about cars, inside and out.
While I didn't take them up on the offer, they do offer free pick up and delivery, as well as a ride if you drop off the car yourself. By appointment on Saturdays.
The only reason I didn't give these guys five stars is because I have only been to them ONCE so far, so I hate to declare them perfect for everyone in every situation! But, I will definitely be taking my car back there, so I might edit this review later. -

Hands down this is the best place you will ever go for your car. 1) Caesar, Marc, Edwin are the nicest guys ever. I really look forward to my visit just to chat with them. 2) They are honest. They will tell you when you need something or if you don't really. 3) They are thorough. They really check everything to make sure that what they are fixing is really the problem and so that something else doesn't die the next week. 4) They go above and beyond. They will drive you somewhere if you need to get there and don't have your car. They also will wash and vacuum your car just to be nice.
All of this means that they might be a little more expensive for some services. But my Toyota dealer tried to charge me at least twice what they did for a few things, and for the honesty, quality, and friendliness, I would probably pay them whatever they asked me. But they do provide a AAA discount and are reasonable when you are talking about pricing.
Go there now if your car needs help! Or even just an oil change! You will not regret it. -

As everyone else has said, this is THE BEST place to take your car. I was really nervous about buying my first used car, so I took it here to get a pre-purchase inspection because of all the good reviews on Yelp. They were so great, answering all my many, many questions and giving me great advice about the car.
I bought the car, and just went back today to get the necessary repairs done to it. They not only drove me home, but also picked me up when the car was done! Cesar knew all the answers to my questions when I picked it up because he takes the time to drive the car himself. I walk out of here feeling like I know exactly what's up with my car, which is a feeling I've never had with any other mechanic (especially as a girl).
They greet customers by first name, give you a ride both ways, and might give you a discount if you ask for it! This is better customer service than most 5-star hotels. If you are looking for a mechanic you can trust and will want to use forever these are your guys. -

My first car, my first repair, and boy was I nervous like a mother bringing her child to the first day of kindergarten. There are about a dozen mechanics on Pico so I decided to go into the first one with the best aura. Heh.
I had a pipe or something to get replaced and brought the car in un announced because my roommate was able to pick me up from their garage. They take the car immediately and know the problem I came to fix cause it was all in their computer system from a previous little inspection. It takes not but the amount of time for me to sign a piece of paper and I am done and they offer to drive me home....! Shocking. They then arranged to drop the car off when through at my home. Even better than all that hassle is they returned the car clean. I mean they washed the car for me. Incredible. -

These guys rock! They just consolidated their 2 westside locations, so this address info might not be up to date.
These guys do all the work on my VW Golf - I find out what needs to be done from the dealership and then give the work to these guys. They're super cool and super knowledgable. They treat their customers like gold. Every small business could learn a thing or two from the way Joy is run. In a business where people are constantly being exploited and taken advantage of, Joy takes the high road and understands that a happy customer is a customer for life. I'll never have anyone else work on my car. -

I have taken my Laforza into these guys twice (towed in both times!) and they never seem to disappoint. My car is not exactly the easiest to deal with either.
They aren't cheap for sure but they are very upfront with you and they put a lot of work and thought into your car and every time I leave I feel good about it, I can't say that about many places. I will be going back. -

Read about this play on yelp and every single thing people are saying is 100% true. I called up to make an appointment for an oil change Cesar answered. He sounded very nice and friendly and welcoming. He penciled me in and i showed up the next day to drop it off. I work near by so i pulled my bike outta the trunk and road to work. Ceasar told me it would be done around lunch. I get a call a few hours later saying it wasnt gonna be done quite by lunch, which i appreciated seeing as how i would have ridden my bike down there only to find out it wasnt ready. Afterwards, he called me up, told me he put my bumper back in place, which was out of place from a minor fender bender, then proceeded to tell me that everything was in tip top shape except for the tranny fluid which would need to be replaced soon, but he didnt pressure me into anything at all. I ride down to the shop and they were washing the interior and exterior of my car, polishing the tires and cleaning the windows.
Mind you the total bill was around $44. I used to go to a place where i could get an oil change for $19.99. but they didnt fix my bumper and wash/clean my car for me. I will certainly spend the extra $20 or so dollars for this top notch service. I will absolutely be a repeat customer. -

More Joy Automotive is the only place I trust when my car needs more than just a trip to Jiffy Lube. Recently my car had some serious aches and pains that needed ironing out. Jason and the guys at More Joy are friendly, dependable, and get you a quote as soon as they can. My car even got a washing before it was returned to me, something it also sorely needed. If you need an honest mechanic who will get the job done well and quickly, you should see these guys.

I used these guys for the first time on the recommendation of a close friend with the same Mercedes.
Anyone who enjoys one of these cars knows the seedy jiffy lube and ez lube ne'er-do-wells line up to steal and over price any normal service.
More Joy is a class act. I dropped the car off for service. They gave me a ride to work from there. Called me a few hours later and picked me up. They did everything I asked and alerted me (not hard pressure sale AT ALL) of other things that I may need to do.
My car was washed and vacuumed NO CHARGE!! Oh and acid washed my rims!! I pay $50 for that at Handy-J's on Washington. They are a class act and work on every type of vehicle. I can't recommend them enough. I am a customer for life.
And the price? They beat every other place I have been in L.A. (Venice born and raised).
Thanks Cesar!! -

Based on the great yelp reviews, I called More Joy up on short notice to see if they could check out my car-- I'd been in a fender bender and wanted to make sure everything was okay. The guy on the phone was open and friendly, and said that they were very busy but could take a look at it if we left it for a few hours. I drove over, and they weren't exaggerating on the busy! It was packed, but someone came right out and looked at the damage (minimal, but I'm paranoid). He popped the fender back in place and changed a burned out brake light bulb while we sat in the car, and sent us on our way! We were in and out in ten minutes! Clearly they don't need the business, but I'd recommend these guys to anyone. I have a new mechanic!

My tail light suddenly went out on my 01 Jetta. What do I do? Call this place (thanks to yelp). He told me to come by and it would take like 5 minutes free of charge. Really? Sure enough, came by, he fixed it in probably 2 minutes flat and I was out of there. Free of charge.
I will be back and when I actually need repairs. These guys are awesome. -

Yelp led me to More Joy, thankgoodness! Also attracted by their Saturday hours.
I brought my 2002 Honda Civic in for a rattling noise. I trusted them immediately when they fixed the noise without charge, stating it was a simple fix. They did find other services that were needed, and all were due according to my car's maintenance plan (timing belt, transmission fluid, among other things).
The final price ended up being lower than what they estimated, but it was the "above and beyond" service that endeared them to me. I dealt with Mark, who was consistently nice, friendly, and accommodating. He waited to go home on a Friday until I could make it to the dealer to pick up my car, and he had previously offered to pick me up on Saturday to get my car if it hadn't been ready by Friday. They also offered to fix/replace the battery in my car's keychain free of charge.
I would absolutely recommend and will return for any needed services. -

These guys really are the best mechanics I've found and I've lived in a handful of cities across the country. They're everything a mechanic shop should be but so rarely is; skilled, honest, knowledgeable, professional, friendly and fair. I wouldn't trust my car in any other hands for major work or even a simple oil change.

These guys are GREAT! Nice, Friendly, Professional and Honest!!
FIVE stars isn't enough for them!!!
I was visiting from out of town when my transmission started to have problems... this was a weekend. At 7:30am Monday morning I call More Joy and spoke with the friendliest and helpful guy (Cesar)... let's not forget that this was a MONDAY first thing in the day! When I arrived 30 minutes later I was helped by an equally cheerful and knowledgeable staff member (Mike).
I left the car there, was giving a ride back to my friends house buy More Joy, and they followed up with me just a few hours later...
anyway, the repairs that were needed were (for me) not worth doing... I asked it they might know anyone who would take it off my hands at a fair price... and being I was out of town and just passing through... i needed to get this all done ASAP. Less then a day later... ALL TAKEN CARE OF!!... and at a fair price (better, actually, than I had expected).
To top all that... they wouldn't let me pay for the day and a half they had my car and the check up/estimate they did on it!
Just a TOP-NOTCH outfit all around!!! -

Fast, friendly, and knowledgeable! They're not out to squeeze you for every dime. Never been jerked around by them in the 6 plus years I've been going to them. And they remember your name! Your car and wallet will be safe with them.
