Needless to say, being the pizza fanatic that I am, I was deeply excited to hear about the greatness Moose's Tooth upon my arrival in Alaska. I have already been there several times, and I have not been disappointed once. I love that you can have two different speciality pizzas on one pie, and not being a big beer drinker, I am in love with the Apple Ale. The Raspberry Vinaigrette salad is good too, just get the dressing on the side.
Favorite pizzas thus far include:
Tomato Pesto
Veggie Delight
Avalanche
Pepperoni Supreme
I want to slap every single reviewer that has given this place five stars. Especially the guy that said he has eaten at Pizzeria Bianco and had the nerve to put the two places in the same sentence. The crust at MT is like cardboard and honestly Mr. Pizziaola, how much effing cornmeal do you need to get the pie in the oven?
Toppings are of good quality and the Hungarian mushroom soup is excellent. But as a pizza place they suck. I even take issues with their crappy napkins.
They only get two stars because of the great brews they are producing.
Oh my god, I'm in love. Went here at noon on a Thursday; it was totally packed and the vibe was really good. I think you gotta sit at the bar for the best experience. Full selection of local beers and ales, and they give little tasters out so you can find out your preference. I am IN LOVE with the apple ale. It's the best ale I've ever had in my life.
We shared the thai chicken pizza, which was delicious, par-tay in the mouth for sure. It was hard to choose just one pizza because they've got so many other interesting-looking toppings for other ones. I'll have to come back a few more times to try it all out.
This is such an awesome place because it's totally a respectable joint to bring the folks, but it's got that divey feel with a cool waitstaff. Oh yeah, they had some brownie chocolate thing with vanilla ice cream, that was pure heaven.
Another great review for this place. My husband and I ate here for the first time after driving by multiple times due to the huge waiting lines. The pizzas were delicious, and the prices were good, especially for Anchorage.
I wish I could be a regular, but sadly I no longer live in Anchorage. However, I love this place!
I'm that rare person that just can't stand beer. I've never been able to drink the stuff...until the hard apple ale was basically forced on me by a friend. Yay! It was delightful! I wish I could get it here! It would make life in TX so much more bearable!!!!
4.5 stars...
I am a regular to Moose's Tooth since the very beginning. My wife and I average MT take-out 1x/week. On the rare occassion we will dine in with friends or family. But the restaurant is always busy and loud (a good sign).
Our favorites are:
Cheese Breadsticks with House Sauce
Moose Ranch Salad
Margherita Pizza
Santa's Helper
Chicken Picante
Chicken Ranch
The Classic
The beer is excellent as well and can be purchased in growlers for take-out. Northern Light Amber is my fave with their pizza. Of all of the pizza places in Anchorage Moose's is in my top 2. My other favorite is Muldoon Pizza (takes you back to theold Shakey's days). Nearby MT, Nino's, also serves an excellent Tomato Mozzarella pizza.
This place has possibly the best pizza in the world. I've eaten some East Coast pizza, as well as that at Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix (for which the chef won a James Beard award), but this place is the best I've ever had. It's that magical Alaskan water, I think. The atmosphere here is fine, and the beers they make are pretty good, too.
The only thing to watch out for: my friend tells me that the pizza can be a little off on some days (not bad, just not amazing enough to slaughter your first born). And it can be a bit crowded, but it's worth the wait.
If you go to one restaurant in Anchorage, go here.
So far this is the best place we've eaten at in Alaska. The prices were totally reasonable, the beer and food were fresh and tasty, and the service was decent.
Thanks to Yelp, we ended up eating at Moose's Tooth during our first night in Anchorage. I had the Buffalo Chicken Salad, which comes with Buffalo-style chicken on a bed of romaine with tomatoes, cucumber, and blue cheese dressing. The chicken was okay - my mom's salmon caesar salad was better.
It was the pizza and beer that really shone. My dad and sister got the garlic pizza, which was delicious. It came with tons of vegetables and roasted garlic. Dad and I split the beer sampler, which was very tasty. I highly recommend the raspberry ale. As a wussy beer drinker whose favorites are usually whatever's cheapest, I loved the flavor of this beer. It wasn't too sweet but almost tasted like alcoholic raspberry soda. I'd definitely go back, even if this place were in the Bay Area, which is saying a lot.
Awesome beer, pretty good pizza (maybe the best in town, maybe not, though I do love that they offer a whole wheat crust), reasonably convenient location with sufficient parking. I've been twice and not had the 45+ minute waits people mention in other reviews, but perhaps I was just lucky with timing.
I give up. I must concede and jump on the bandwagon and say that Moose's Tooth is the best pizza in Anchorage. The stuff is good, I admit it. But...keeping that fifth star just in case there is an elusive white 5-star pizza whale swimming around town.

Oh the pizza was soooooo good. I miss it so much! Definitely the best pizza place, not only in Alaska, but maybe even in N. America! I really miss the Thai Chicken pizza and no one else can make it the way they do. And oh how i miss their cheesy breadsticks! Plus they brew a great Hef. I miss their beer, and even thier cream sodas. Too bad the no liquids on planes ban has prevented me from taking some back.
I will be back here first thing the moment I go back to Anchorage.
Recently completed construction of a new addition, but the place seems more crowded now than it did before.
The beer menu is diverse and always offers a few seasonal brews. You can usually find Alpenglow Amber, Fairweather I.P.A., Klondike Golden, Midtown Brown, Pipeline Stout (Bronze medal winner at 2005 GABF), Prince William's Porter (Bronze medal winner at 2005 GABF), Polar Pale, ESB, raspberry wheat and hard apple ale. When we visited they also had a pilsner, a red, Darth Dillerium, and their barleywine.
I had the ESB and hubby had the pilsner....he liked it so much he ordered a growler to go.
As for food, the menu is based around pizza, but they have some great salads as well.
I started with the tofu tahini soup, it was yummy. I usually get the hungarian mushroom, but they didn't have it yesterday. Hubby opted for the goulash instead...being more a meat and taters guy..
From past experience I can tell you that their salads are wonderful. If you are ordering pizza too, the side salad is big enough for two to share.
We chose the pizza special (they usually have 2 or 3 special pizzas on the menu), we ordered a medium veggie bomber....mozzarella, provolone, artichoke hearts, spinach, balsamic marinated grilled onions, basil, gorgonzola, topped with fresh tomatoes. Delish!
There are roughly 11 veggie pizzas on the menu, 14 meat, and 12 seafood and chicken varieties. They have a daily special, Monday thru Friday, lunchtime. It includes a slice of the pizza of the day, plain side or ceasar salad or soup or breadsticks, and a soda. You can add blackened chicken or salmon to the salad for an additional fee.
Although our visit did not include dessert there are some nice ones to be had. They will be found on the beer menu as they change often. Wine and soft drinks are also available, but no other beers, only in-house beers.
I've marked the value as reasonable, as it is for our area. However those coming from outside may find it a bit pricey. Welcome to Anchorage.
.
Pizza is outstanding..........
Best pizza place in Alaska...
Lines are long, but worth the wait!!!!
Family restaurant that happens to serve beer, and you will always wait to eat here. They need another location. Waiting nearly an hour almost any day of the week is lame, no matter how good your pizza is.
Atmosphere is typical family pizza joint.
Quality of beer is above average, with some beers notably good.
Service is average.
Selection for a brewpub is above average, with more than a dozen beers to choose from.
Pizza was amazing, as was the breadsticks we ordered.
Reasonable prices, given the standard in Alaska.
Oh, Moose's Tooth. I'm so proud of you... located all the way in Anchorage, Alaska and with more reviews than half the restaurants here in DC.
I'll keep it short and sweet: Eat here. Get pizza. Bread sticks too. Repeat.
The only bad pizza I've had was the spinach and chicken pizza. To say it was bland is like saying Alaska gets a few inches of snow each winter. It was beyond bland.
The waits can be bad but I've never experienced anything agonizing. This really is some of the best pizza in the country (technically in the country) and I'm sad it's so far away. If you get the chance to eat here, I urge you to do the right thing (see above).
Great pizza and they brew their own beers(on tap!) so you HAVE to try this place out if you haven't already. Especially if you're visiting.
Great date spot and hangout.
My favorite is the halibut pizza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS MORE THAN JUST PIZZA OMG!!!
I love it
umm they get really busy sometimes so be prepared to wait or do like me, call and order ahead, then go pick it up!!!! YEEEHAW!
Yes, Moose Tooth gets 5 stars for sure! The locals sent me here and I was very happy they sent me in the right direction!
Fantastic pizza, we ordered the Aloha...mmmm! And an AWESOME selection of homebrewed beers!!! I will definitely be eating here again before we leave Alaska.
Resonably priced and a fun atmosphere. A must to place to eat while you visit Anchorage.
Great pizza and home draft root beer! A must stop if you are visiting Anchorage.
Yes, SOOOOO good! From the salads to the pizzas to the beers...to the ambiance to the clean restrooms to the friendly service...Moose's Tooth is GOOD to the last bite!
I recommend the Denali Sauce on breadsticks as an appetizer, then have at the pizzas...bring several friends and order 2 or 3 different types! While you're munching the bread sticks, split a salad...fresh and tasty. Sip on your beer (or root beer, if you prefer) and take a look at the variety of posters from First Taps gone by. When all is said and done, make sure you have room for some mud pie! Yum-oh-licious!!
I almost didn't come here because of a review from one person, but it is worth it. UPS has a hub in Anchorage and we visit maybe once a month. This place will be on my frequent visit list. Tired of Pizza Hut etc. this will be a real treat.
I'm not much on home brews, I here it;s good, but I got a Alaskan Ale with lemon and my veggie pizza. Best since ....I can't remember.
A long walk is reccomended when you leave this place. Burn those calories.
All I can say is amazing!!! Everything is good here!! They are a brewery so they have great beer and have "first tap" first Thursday every month. Try the wheat crust and always get the house sauce with the mozzarella bread sticks.
The pizza and beer here are pretty awesome. They also have some cool concerts--Matisyahu last time I was there. (two summers ago) The service is good and the people are super nice! I feel like this is a pretty lame review but this place is definitely NOT lame--it's just me!
Easily one of the greatest, most popular and most unique eateries in the whole state. Some of the best pizza AND beer is found here.
Goods:
*Thin crust pizzas with many delicious flavors to choose from.
*Amazing beers brewed locally and lots of them.
*Friendly staff. There's a lot to be said for seeing some of the same servers and tenders for years and years.
*They bring a lot of 1st class artists to play outdoor shows in the summertime.
*Not just pizza! Excellent salads and appetizers too.
*Prices are extremely reasonable for the quality.
*Take home a growler of your favorite beer.
So So's.
*This place is super popular! Be prepared for a wait no matter what day of the week it is.
*It's true that parking can be a bare on occasion.
*Occasionally out of my favorite beers.
If you are new to the state or bringing company up from the lower 48, definitely check out the Moose's Tooth.
Great food and excellent beer! Having moved here from Northern California, so nice to get great microbrews
Yes, we had to wait over an hour, but it was damn well worth it.
After seated, we were greeted by an energetic, albeit frazzled, waitress, who provided a little small talk, some sauciness and a lot of insight into what was good and what wasn't.
After a pre-dinner local IPA, we settled into our large 1/2 pesto and 1/2 veggie pizza, but I could ignore our medium blackened halibut pizza that we also ordered. I'd been hearing about halibut pizza before I arrived to the big A and had to try it.
Now normally, I'm not a fish-on-my-pizza kind of guy, but they did it. They somehow successfully merged seafood and pizza pie into a delicious, spicy concoction. Spicy, blackened halibut, red onions, tomatoes, spicy sour cream sauce, garlic, cheese and olive oil on a crispy thin crust. How could you go wrong?
Oh, Alaska, is there anything you WON'T put seafood on?
I was in Anchorage on business and heard that Moose's Tooth was a local favorite. It was the first place I decided to hit, after dry heaves alerted me to my immediate need for food after a long and painful flight.
I couldn't deal with beer due to the shaky stomach but I ordered up a cup of mushroom soup and a small pizza (an Avalanche). I got a bowl rather than a cup which irritated me to start, especially when I saw how thin the soup was. I was expecting something thicker and creamier. As soon as I tasted it, though, I was happy I had a bowl -- absolutely mushroom-ific.
The pizza was really quite perfect, cooked in a brick oven with high quality ingredients. I was pretty surprised to find such great pizza throughout Alaska but I'm not sure why it came as a shock. Just a nice perk!
As for the things that annoyed me, because there are always things that annoy me, the crying baby to adult ratio seemed extremely high and the service was lackluster.
If you can only make it to one restaruant in Anchorage because of a short stay or whatnot, get a pizza at Moose's Tooth. You won't regret it.
This pizza really is as great as everyone says it is. The creative toppings make for some truly unique pies. My friends live in Anchorage and know the drill, so we ordered our pizzas to go and picked them up. Funny thing though, when we ordered them they told us they were out of both medium and large pizzas and we could only order smalls... weird. So we got 4 smalls between 5 of us, this worked out ok b/c everyone wanted different pizzas. We got an Avalanche, a high protein land, a wild mushroom, and a chicken Parmesan. I tried all but the avalanche (I'm not a fan of BBQ sauce on my pizza) and they were all phenomenal, but the chicken Parmesan was probably the best.
The only reason I'm taking off one star is not really their fault... but I happened to be there the day that their sprinklers went off in the store, which is why there were only smalls, I guess the rest of the crusts were compromised. Good thing we ordered to go b/c by the time we went to pick it up, there was a sign up that said the restaurant was not serving anymore food... weird. But it made for a chaotic space with people coming in and seeing others eating and pizzas being taken out (oh yeah and we saw people walk out with larges after we got there...), they weren't too happy.
We also took a guzzler to go with us, don't remember which beer it was, but it was tasty! And gave me a quick buzz since I was hungry! :) I really enjoyed MT and wish they had chains, particularly one in DC!
Amazing, delicious, and worth the wait! Best beer in town, thats for sure! Bear Tooth is great too! Everytime the family goes out to dinner it's always obvious where we'll be.
Boo You! The Tooth has Anchorage's best beer, best pizza, best atmosphere and best bands - how is it possible they still throw the worst parties?
MT has hosted their annual lot party for 12 years now and they still don't have this downer down. The parking was rot, the sound was rot, the layout was rot, the lines were rot and the weather was rot, too. While we can't hold the Tooth accountable for the torrents of torrential rain, we can pause to wonder what the hell happened.
Whose idea was it to give the non-drinking crowd space preference in the concert area? The left side was tight and uncomfortable and had virtually no stage view. The right side was spacious and DULL. And how, you ask, can the beer and loo lines continue to be so poorly managed? And how could they have neglected the tents on a year so destined for dampness? Don't Rod and Matt care about our $35 concert experience? Or are they too busy swimming in their cash?
Yelpers, here's the scoop. Their beer is good but it's too heavy to buzz on. Their food is good, but it's not worth the wait. The atmosphere is good, but it's a well-marked "X" on a well-trodden trail. Be prepared to chat your chatting chatter into the whirling swirl of a thousand other voices speaking a million other verses of arbitrary blankness. Get your Crest out kids, this Tooth feels loose.
Beer was great. If there is one thing I'm noticing about Alaska, is that they have great breweries and beer.
As for the pizza here at Moose's... It was lame. In fact, I would have actually enjoyed Domino's or Pizza hut more so in this particular case.
The reason for that, is the rather plain pizza I received, that needs some better ingredients.
The pizza I had ordered(Brewhouse Favorite) was to have italian sausage that was not salty at all. It must have been some prepackaged cheap stuff bought from a restaurant supply store in bulk.
The sundried tomato's also were lacking a bit of the "sun dried," aspect. They seemed more like cherry tomato's that had been roasted at the time of the pizza going into the oven.
Finally the cheeses used. All very bland, non-flavorful cheese.
I hope it was just an off night.
Yay! I'm a fan. A great place to go after a hike to fill up on some chicken ranch or meatball pizza.
I enjoy the fact that they have your basic cheese and more eclectic options. Since I'm the type of person who orders a diet coke with my double quarter pounder, I appreciate being able to get my pizza on a wheat crust. More places should switch to that option.
The beers are great too, and if you buy a 'growler' to go and bring it back to refill you'll save 5 bucks. Nice.
The mixed green salad is dynamite. Ask for extra kalamatas and you'll get a whole plate of them. Delish!
Only lousy thing about the place is the wait--if its after 4 o'clock you'll be lucky to wait only 25 minutes. The waiters range from super friendly and efficient to ''I work at Moose's Tooth and am therefore holier than thou"
We went here after reading reviews on yelp, it didn't disappoint. The pizza was really good and they had many unique ones, we had the popeyes and halibut among others. Definitely worth the 45 min wait on a Sat night.
Moose's Tooth brews there own beer which is amazingly delicious and one of a kind! The pizza is the best in Alaska....actually all of their food is GREAT! There is usually a wait but it is worth it all the way!!
I live in Anchorage, and I've been to Moose's Tooth on a number of occasions. Every time, the serving was substandard, and the wait time was at least 15 minutes. We took my mother there once, and she paid, and the tip was only $10 for a rather large tab because the server was really, really bad. He ignored us the whole time, forgot our drinks twice, and forgot twice when we asked for a straw for our son. When my mother checked her bank account later that wee, she noticed that they had charged us $7 more than she had signed for. Presumably for the tip, which I believe is illegal.
On the upside, the beer is great.
After doing my business in the state of Alaska a number of times, I finally made my way to Moose's Tooth. It must be the fact that there's no snow and I don't feel any other need to not want 'pee-cha'. As for the review, we waited a few minutes more than what they told us, which seemed longer because I was exhausted and tired. I was looking at the hostess (cupcake...again!?) and she was typing out a number to page. I pointed down at my pager and blam! The red lights blink and the pager goes off. Wooohooo!!! Pee-cha time!
There is nothing wrong with the price here at this place. They take a lot of pride in their beer, especially their ROOTBEER FLOATS! I had one but when I asked if I could politely get a refill of just rootbeer, she turned me down. Oh well, never hurts to ask, but Pew! Goodbye star!
I started off with a delicious caesar side salad. The taste was tasty and the amount was amountful. Bottomline, it was great. Who would of thought a salad would earn a star.
I ordered the 10" Chicken Parmesan. The pee-cha is thin crust, crispy, fresh tasting. They don't take too long, and the waitress rolled around like she was a ball.
I didn't order a dessert, but I was offered a bite of Death By Peanut Butter. A cheese cake style peanut butter dessert. It was good, but I only had a small bite of it.
Like a said before, a rootbeer float, caesar salad, and 10" chicken pizza for under $20, damn that's good. Do it!!!!
Okay, I can be pizza snob. But this place is goooood! I have lived in Anchorage for six weeks and have been here three times. The pizza is yummy and the staff is friendly. The beer is okay, but hey, I am a girl so I am certainly no expert. Make sure you go early if you can, say by five for dinner or else you will be waiting.
We just moved to this area from Texas, and we aren't big "chain" fans, so we were directed to try the best pizza in town here.
I'm not overwhelmed by how great it is. It's good pizza, sure, but it's not stellar. Sorry. I've had better. It's not awful, and the atmosphere is active and fun, but eh... I could do without the crowds and slow, albeit kind, service.
I had a brownie with ice cream for dessert, and found the brownie to be dry, cold, and unimpressive. Skip dessert, grab your pizza to go, and head outta there... unless, of course, you're a raging alcoholic who needs to eat something salty to get thirsty. ;)
I had the chicken picante pizza...wonderful! Great beer selection and service was good. Love the cheese bread, too! Every time I have been here there has been a wait for a table, but it's worth the wait.
Uh, yeah, you're not a true Alaskan if you haven't eaten here. EVERYONE IN ALASKA knows of this place. If you don't, well, you can always migrate to Mongolia. That's right, MIGRATE.
But seriously, this place is always busy because the pizza is so good! I was not of age when I lived in Anchorage, so I can't say anything for the beer, but I'm sure it tastes great. Yay for pizza. And Mongolia.
