GAH!  Don't come here!  AVOID!  AVOID!

Why you ask?  SO I CAN KEEP ALL THE UBER CUTE VINTAGE STUFF FOR MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Yes, it's rather selfish, but I never said I was Mommy Teresa, now did I?

So, my husband and I wander into Takoma Park and this was the very first store we went in - and I almost never re-emerged!  This store is tiny but packed full of lovely vintage clothing from the 1940's - 1960's.  If you love the show "Mad Men" you will just *DIE* in this store.  Trust.

This past Sunday, I emerged with a lovely black taffeta "New Look" dress, with the most amazing pearl embroidery on the sleeve - for only $70...and the owner/manager even threw in a brooch.  There are vintage swimsuits, and adorable vintage hats, aprons and kid-gloves.  I even found a 1960's Lucite purse, but alas, my husband was with me and I knew that he would say "seriously honey?  Lucite?  Really???".  I love him dearly, but there are times when he just doesn't understand me or what is cute.

So the best part of Moonshadow isn't just the amazing selection of high quality and *real* vintage wear (no Ann Taylor or Gap crap in here!), it's the prices!  I think that black taffeta dress I bought was the most expensive thing in the whole store.  Most of the dresses that I found were in the $20 - $40 range - which, for those of you who are into vintage clothing, know that it is a total steal!

I also absolutely love the amazing selection of antique jewelry.  There is a cocktail ring that I must get, or I shall surely perish with wanting.  There are old skool cake carriers, and handkerchiefs.  If you have friends who are into this time period, you will seriously become their new best friend if you show them this store.  Amazing!

So um...yeah, after my rave review - DON'T COME HERE!  EVER!  Because if I'm in the store and we both reach for that to die for pillbox hat, know that I will gnaw off your arm if necessary...it's MINE!

A charming nook of a shop loaded with personality--almost as much as owner, Karen, who is every bit as much a reason for my visits as her lovely selection of handpicked treasures.
Moonshadow has all the ingredients of what a great shop should be: A passionate owner who likes to take her customers on a journey, who cares deeply about her store, her wares, her customers. It's not just about the 'stuff' you'll find, but the experience looking through and finding it.
A visit to Moonshadow is like a really fun escape to another place and time. I'm so glad we have it in the neighborhood.
Thanks, Karen!

I love this place.  It's like all the junk has been sifted out and the gold landed in it.  This small store packs a punch with lots of great stuff.  It has wonderful vintage collectibles, jewelery, pics, postcards, etc (some clothes for the ladies).  It's probably a great place for gifts, and I should remember that the next time I walk out with something for myself...again.  The owner is friendly and knowledgeable.

I adore this little shop.  The collection of vintage items and antiques are exactly my taste.  If you are into this kind of thing be warned because this shop can become addictive.  The stock is obviously hand picked and whoever is doing it seems to be reading my mind.  I can't wait till the next time I go back.  The place is loaded with treasures and the lady is very helpful and nice.  Thanks for reading and I hope I helped!

I really enjoy shopping at Moonshadow. The owner is sweet and friendly, and we always have a nice conversation while I look at the jewelry (of which I especially recommend the sterling silver.)

Last time I was there, I found a 1920s slip which is gorgeous. In general, my favorite items are her pretty vintage wrapping paper, distinct and inexpensive mens cuff links, and various clothing which is all very affordable.

This store is a couple of blocks from the Takoma Park metro stop in a cool neighborhood.

This little store is too cute!  The owner has a nice variety of items--lots of jewelry (mostly costume), hats, shoes (both used and unworn deadstock vintage), and a small, nicely edited collection of vintage clothes.  You won't be digging through racks of grubby items of dubious interest and quality.  The coats are to die for, and well-priced ($50-$70 range).    The prices overall were quite fair; there were some real bargains and I didn't see anything I thought was excessive.

There are also random items like vintage patterns, vintage prints and postcards, cigarette cases, etc.  You can find gifts for a man or a woman here, or just get something for yourself (not that I would do such a thing, ahem).

The owner is charming and friendly, and took her time helping us even though our purchases were relatively modest.  I ended up with a fabulous cameo pin for $10 and a fantastic giant sterling silver cocktail for $30.   Definitely a go-to place when you're looking for something different.

I walked there tonight, and was hoping to chat with the owner. I love the postcards and beads and buttons and suspenders there. Some of the jewelry are really great price.

I have had great luck at Moonshadow, and rarely leave emptyhanded.  She has the best collection of cufflinks, vintage shoes, postcards/paper goods, and buttons/lace/notions around.  I always like going in to talk to  the owner--she is warm and always helpful.  I only wish it were a larger shop!

The clothing selection isn't great at all, but they make up for it with accessories, pictures, gloves, hats... just about everything else! The prices are reasonable, and there are a lot of treasures packed into this little store!

It's a cute vintage shop, and it's definitely worth a poke around while you tour the many used/vintage stores in Takoma Park.  I've only bought a few things there- it's a smaller, more intimate store, and my tastes aren't quite in line with the stock.
