The party was in full swing when we got there. The dance floor isn't large, therefore it was crowded and hot. Lots of group bumping and grinding going on. The music was top 40 and easy to move to.

The bartenders seemed overwhelmed, but were hustling as quickly as possible.

We staked claim to the dartboards and hung there for a while. The dartboards are next to the entrance and on the way to the restrooms, so there were a couple of near-misses with some oblivious partyers. There are also some pool tables in the back, smashed next to the restrooms.

Okay, let's address the restrooms. It was so crazy hectic with men running in and out to relieve themselves in the trough. I don't even think there was a door on the men's room. The hallway to the restrooms was cramped and short. There was nowhere to stand and wait for a turn. And, in the ladies room, there were two toilets, but no stalls. Yep. The ladies get to socialize face to face while peeing. Awesome.

Moon Dogs is a typical fun-loving, good time bar. Oh, and watch out for that itty-bitty treacherous step on the way up to, and down from, the dance floor.

Walking in, Moondogs felt like your average dance club.  Heavy music, heavy smoke, bouncer (I LOVE getting carded!)  I was disappointed...mainly because I didn't recognize much of the music and thought the DJ was somewhat amateur.  We stayed for a while though, dancing and thinking something better would happen.  No such luck, unfortunately.

My assistant found out later that Thursday night (yes, the night we were there) is college night.  Oh.  That explains why I felt so old!

So, I guess if you're over 30, try a night other than Thursday, it might be better.

This place wasn't near as bad as I expected.  Starts off slow, but fills up quick. I'm not really into the whole bar thing, but there were a few areas to wander off to and dance. My friends were more interested in playing pool or darts... everyone was pleased.

Only weird thing... there was a different girl puking in the bathroom every time I went in there..

Wow, so there is life in Buckhead.  A friend had their birthday party here after dinner at Loco's and I guess the best way I could describe it is that it hasn't changed much since I've been in college.  Yes, they expanded, but the first thing I remember when walking in is that it smelled just as bad as it did a decade ago...

...anyways, it's not really a rip on the place.  What can you say: it's a bar, it has alcohol, darts, pool tables, and places to dance.  Nothing bad, nothing special, just okay, and it's always great to visit memory lane; got no issue going here and would stop in occasionally for a brew, just wouldn't go outta my way for it :)

Sooo....me and two of my friends drove to Atlanta from Charlotte, NC on a Wednesday night for a Braves-Yankees game. We knew we wanted to defintitely go out somewhere, but was unsure if there would be anything good to get into on a Wednesday night. I immediately did my research to see if there were any places that weren't too far from the hotel that we were staying at, which was right outside of the Buckhead Area, about a block away from the Brookhaven MARTA station. After we got back from the game, which the Yankees won by the way, haha...we headed back to the hotel to change, and then the night was about to begin.

We drove up to Moondogs and parked across the street in front of some businesses, b/c it was free. I knew my car would be safe there. As we approached Moondogs, there were people enjoying drinks on the outside patio at Peachtree Tavern (a place that was in the same complex as Moondogs). We got our ID's checked, and up the stairs we went. As soon as we walked up the stairs and walked to the left, I immediately thought, "This is it." Well I learned quickly that there was way more to this place than what I saw from just walking up the stairs. We started off with a pitcher of beer, which was very reasonably priced...chatted with the bartender for a bit and she kinda gave us the 411 on the place. We started walking around and I thought I was in heaven. There were two official sized beer pong tables (which we did play on), pool tables, corn hole, a jukebox, foosball tables....basicially a mans dream. I think I fell in love with the room that played nothing but HIP HOP. I'm a big fan of all genres of music, but if you wanna get your dance on, hip hop/top40 usually helps. They had other parts of the place that played other genres of music.

I read reviews on the place before we went, but I've always been the kinda person that walked into places or situations with no expectations, so I wanted to see it for myself. I kept reading that the floors were discusting, but I didn't encounter that, and I wore flip flops and I am a self-proclaimed germaphobe, haha. Maybe the floors were clean b/c it was the first day it was open for the week and it was closed for 3-4 days and maybe what's when they clean the floors???? Who knows. I also read that it was a frat hangout and a college hangout. I didn't really witness that either. There was a good male to female ratio in the house. I'm about 5 years removed from college and I had a blast.

The only thing that I really didn't like about the place was the mens bathroom. It was small as a closet and there was one big a*s stainless steel urinal that wrapped around the whole bathroom. It looked like a sink that you might find at a barn or something that animals might drink water from, haha. I wasn't feeling the bathroom b/c I'm kinda uncomfortable standing next to another man with no kinda privacy or partician between us. I don't need anybody checking out my stuff, haha.

We wanted to check out "Hole in the Wall," which was located downstairs, but we had so much fun at Moondogs, we never left. This place will definitely be getting hit up again the next time I make it back down to the Atlanta.

Oh, good ol' Moon Dogs.  This place is a madhouse most weekends I have gone.  Most of the people come in bigger groups or pairs of friends.  For some reason there are always these nerdy "kids" saying something stupid to us when my friends and I go out.

Although, this place is at least guaranteed to play the radio Hip Hop hits on the somewhat small dance floor and alternative in the  other larger room.  In my opinion it can satisfy the people who hate Hip Hop and the people who hate rock/alternative.  There are pool tables (usually used regularly) and darts for those who need some interaction that doesn't involve dancing.

It is not the cleanest or, by far, upscale place in any way BUT  it is always our last resort for at least having a good time with my friends if the venue we tried first sucked music and crowd wise.  As I like to say it is what it is and you can make of it what you want but I never rule it out.

PS the beer and drinks are fairly cheap

This place is crowded, people are hammered sloppy, and my buddies and I were systematically shut down by every girl in the place right up until closing time.

Moral of the story?  This bar is freakin legit.

As 3 Yankees and a couple of Canadians down in ATL for the NHL 2008 All Star weekend, we hit any bar we could find, any bar we were told about, and we hit them all as hard as humanly possible.  That said, our group was dismantled and only semi-conscious upon leaving, with me (somehow) the only coherent witness by nights end.

Cheap beer, friendly service, and young and mostly good looking crowd (ok, I was 1,000 miles from home.  I'm allowed to pretend everyone was good looking).  Juke box, lots of tables, 2 bars and a separate room with a dance floor.

1 star for being a big bar with a fun, rowdy, young crowd
1 star for shutting the place down like us Yankees do
1 star for being a bar to remember during a blurry weekend
1 star for being 3 shitfaced New Yorkers and somehow avoiding a fight
1 star for no one saying "enough" after 4 large shots of Patron in a row
1 star for some Northerners dancing with every girl in the place
-1 star for the fat girls who saved their hot friends from us Yanks (earlier) and the good looking girls who saved the DUFFs from us (later)
-1 star for not being open at 11am on Sunday morning when we tried to come back for more.  Yeah, it was like that.

Don't say you weren't warned!

I'm inside for no more than 2 minutes and some guys ralphs on the floor and it splashes onto my feet!  I swear I turned red, horns sprouted from my head, and a cape magically appeared.  Puke on my feet?!?!  Thank goodness for friends because they grabbed me and we walked over to the dance floor which made the cape, horns, and redness disappear.

The dance floor was packed with college age kids breaking it down.  They looked liked they were having a great time.  It wasn't my kind of place so I left.  Total time inside was about 10 minutes.

Oh, not to mention that outside, there was a girl laid out on the side walk, not moving.  An ambulance came to take her away.  There was also a guy in handcuffs, and another girl puking behind a fence.

This is a great place to play pool, and I have named it one of the Top 10 places in the U.S. to play "bar pool" -- where you put up your quarters and challenge the winner.
It has 5 coin-operated pool tables (spread among 3 rooms, oddly enough), and someone to play almost any night.
If you know of a better pub or tavern in which to play bar pool, please let me know.

Let the record show: I am an ex fraternity guy from a small, southern liberal arts school. I was the baseball cap and polo shirt wearing, preppy, irritating, and raucously drunk guy for four years (plus another one after I graduated). When I see guys my own age who are acting like we all did when we were 19-23, it makes me cringe. It's a bunch of dudes clinging as tightly to their college habits as their shirts fit now.

There are just too many of those guys at Moondogs (and lots of places in Buckhead in general) for me to relax. You can tune them out when you're in college or an out of towner blowing off steam, but seeing those same sad sacks every time you're in Buckhead just makes me want to find a small neighborhood bar with a good beer list instead.

Moondogs is fun if you are in college... and still enjoy the whole college bar atmosphere.

I'm 27, and although I pride myself in being able to have a good time anywhere...I dont ever find myself saying.."Hey lets go to Moondogs" Its more of a place where you just end up.

When I was 24 ish I thought this was like the place to party!!! I would drive up with my best friend Lisa from Athens and we would stay in Sandy Springs and get a cab into town...At the time, its all I really knew about "going out in atlanta" A step up from Classic City in Athens, I thought this was what the nightlife was all about in Atlanta. And i was pretty content.

Nothing pretty about it, this is one step up from hole in the wall IMHO. Youll see alot of fratastic, momma's boys-and of course the sorority girls all glammed up and hitting the town hard with their 3 BFF'S for the oh-so-needed "girls night out."

Its casual, there are dart games to be played, and a pool table...Its smoky, the floors are sticky, and there are is alot of humping going on on the dance floor. If that constitutes a good time for you~Have at it! It's all yours.

All in All: Seriously, I'm over meeting strangers in a bar, and pretending to act intested in their oh-so-lame pick up lines

Moondogs is located on the floor above the bar with the nastiest floors in Atlanta: Hole in the Wall.

While Moondog's is no where close to having the poor interior condition that Hole in the Wall has, it is definitely on its way.  I think every time that I have been to Moondogs, it was usually to escape Hole in the Wall; however, after a little bit of time in that general area, I often found myself wandering out on the street in front of the bars alone, desperately looking for a cab ride home.

What is it that makes Moondog's so hated by some and celebrated by others?  Perhaps the only answer to that enigma of a question lies in the heart of diverse social groups that know of the location.  Like most of the reviewers of this bar have stated, this place is a fraternity boy haven.  You show me an individual who is not wearing his favorite college team's hat and a polo shirt, and I will show you an individual who does not want to be here.

The bartenders themselves are not too bad.  I was actually surprised how quick they were able to assist everyone who needed a drink.  It also surprised me how the bartenders never played favorites with individuals who were obviously regulars, considering they were on a first name basis with the bartenders.

There are few experiences I detest more than entering the fraternity/UGA haven that is Moondogs.  Don't get me wrong ... I'm Southern, preppy and did my fair share for the Greek system in college, but this place just hits all the wrong nerves.

It's smoky, crowded, full of way-too-young kids and never offers up much excitement.  At least they have live music and something that could be referred to as a dance floor.  They also have a stripper pole.  There's nothing more pathetic than watching girls who think they're hot trying to be strippers and really just embarrassing themselves.

I stopped back in here a few nights back as I've not been here in a while.  The last time I was here was a year+ ago when economy was better.  A new sign near the bar says 'we gladly pour more'.  I ordered a Makers Mark.  I was charged $6 which is a great price  for Makers in *any* bar, never mind the stereotyped overpriced buckhead standards.  My makers was poured HEAVY & STIFF - a great value for the money & well worth it.  I tipped well on this one!.   The crowd has not changed (see other reviews.  Dittoes on the crowd here) but Moondogs is going to survive & be around for another 100 years.  Worth the trip if this is your type of place.   Pay-for-play juke box was awsome & volume was cranked to "11" -- perfect for Fri night.

Moondogs was a fun place, huge bar with plenty of seating and lots of different schemes for the many bars to choose from in Moondogs. The drink prices are affordable and cheaper than most. The bartenders are very fast. Seems to follow the college crowd very well and the music is good. Good place to go to meet people and get a drink.

Let the record show that I am an ex-fraternity guy from a large urban university in Atlanta (GSU) and have been making appearances at Moondogs for the past four years.  Sometimes it is nice to go out and have some drinks with some friends wearing something simple like jeans and a t-shirt and people don't stare you down like you just walked into Phipps Plaza.  I don't even think there are enough bars like Moondogs in Atlanta since the rest of them cater to the yuppie crowd I try to avoid.  The gang at Moondogs is not nearly as homogeneous as that of East Andrews and is far more relaxed.  The popcorn machine can even stave off a trip to the Waffle House.

Moondog's is what it is: a college bar. The combination of pretty girls and cheap cheap drinks were the draw for me and my cohorts. Maybe more collegiate than fratty (is that the same?). I don't think anyone mentioned how its like  4 bars in one place. Live Music and dancing, Pool/Darts Pub with Juke box, like a sportsbar near the TV, and a little loungey in the back. Best reason to come is $4 pitchers of Miller Light on Thursdays if you are there before they run out. One word of caution to dudes is there are only urinals, the solution to that being leave and go to Locos next door.

Moondogs is fun, if youre in college.  Its fun when youre not but I am just getting too old for this.  Moondogs is just above hole in the wall and peachtree tavern.  All three of those are just more of a college hangout.  The air sucks here, its always crowded and sticky.  Its pretty gross.

This is the quintessential Southern college bar replete with cute coeds, shaggy haired boys, and lots of Abercrombie and Fitch Khakis and Oxfords.  They know their crowd, and keep the domestic beer cold and cheap, the Jager flowing, and the music cranking.  Oh, to be young again.

Yay, Moondogs. I like when the evening turns this way. The casual, medium-sized bar is conveniently located on Peachtree, so it's ideal for a night of bar hopping. One advantage to this location is the tourists (in addition to locals) who frequent this bar. You might meet young men and women on business from different parts of the country, or in town for a wedding, etc. This is also a popular spot for Emory, Tech, and Georgia State students, overall producing a good mix of patrons. I've had several enjoyable conversations with people at this place; I've also spoken to some incredibly drunk people. Thus, Moondogs has a little of everything. There are a few pool tables, several large tables and couches, and a room with a stage and dance floor. Sometimes a band performs crowd-pleasing country and pop rock songs. While I don't like to spend my entire evening here, it's a fun place to pop in and out of.
