Closed? Nooooooooo...
There is a picture floating around on a Berkeley blog of me at Moolicious' doorstep, lamenting the fact that Moolicious is closed on a day that I really, really wanted some cereal and kiwis. Now it's really closed, and I am very sad.
They had a great concept and really nice staff- but like many said, there was not enough chill space in that narrow little shop with the simple logo. I always got fruity pebbles and reese's crunch with a walnut and strawberry topping. And soy milk. I'm lactose intolerant.
I tried it, I thought it was ok.
I had both a chicken apple sandwich and cereal, peanut butter, banana, granola sandwich. I can make both at home and make it better. Both sandwiches lacked a lot of things. It's a good idea but the menu they have is really confusing. I literally stood in front of the menu for 15 mins and did not know what to order or how to order. The place lacks seating big time and needs to work on their sandwiches. I don't remember if you can customize the sandwiches but I sure would love to be able to customize it with say strawberries, white bread, yogurt, granola, and blueberries. I would come back again when I am in the area and do a follow up review.

A "cereal bistro" where you can get a bowl of Fruity Pebbles for "the same price as an entire box." Some patrons commented that this must just be "a big elaborate practical joke, right?" Others observed that you would have to be "one lazy-ass motherfucker" to plunk down $5 for someone else to pour you a bowl of cereal. Trust fund babies thought it was a "splendid idea."
You wouldn't find anyone more excited about a milk and cereal place as I. I was eagerly anticipating the opening of this place, known only as "MILK+CEREAL=ANYTIME" -- a banner that was posted on the window for months during its construction.
I found out it was to open on April 19th, today. I went. I ran.
Then I entered the restaurant and was thoroughly disappointed.
Not only was the interior lacking any sort of creativity, but the menus looked like they were printed by inkjet printers. The huge cereal mascots that were in the storefront were a nice touch, but huge cereal mascots can't save a restaurant on the premise of nice touches alone.
There was no frozen yogurt -- and nothing really too creative on the menu, aside from some sort of salad and parfait options. There were not even tables, nor chairs! There wasn't even any seating! No music and nothing creative! IKEA furniture holding the different food options!
I mean, if they had chairs and tables, and cheap prices -- I can totally see students and workers chowin' down on cereal, hangin' out, in a nice place near campus on the way to class or work in the morning. Reading newspaper. Coffee. Chatting. Nope -- no environment for this. It's very industrial. No nice end-of-the-day desserts either. ENVIRONMENT! SO IMPORTANT! ARGH!
First impressions are everything. I really wanted this place to be awesome. I walk by here 2-3 times a day, and will update this review if the storeowners have a change of heart and improve it. I sure hope they do, 'cause I freakin' love cereal and milk.
Berekley has a cereal restraurant.
I must be hallucinating.
Five dollars for 2 scoops of cereal?
Cereal sandwiches?
Oh yeah, you're also stupid, stoned and HELLA LAZY.
There's more than just milk and cereal to this place. As a bistro, they serve an array of cereal based foods. They make sandwiches with cereal (I know, sounds odd, but I had a sandwich with Apple Jacks, apple pie filling, yogurt and nuts and it was GOOD-the bread was like crust on a yummy yummy pie). They have cereal infused ice cream that they're just introducing (different from placing toppings of cereal on top of ice cream, but the ice cream mixture itself is composed of cereal-I sampled the chocolate which had a mix of several chocolate cereals and I can totally say it's something that I've never experienced before-good stuff).
The owner said they should be coming out with cereal-based soup by mid-August, so be on the lookout.
The owner and other staff were really nice and the price is definitely right (under $5 for just about everything).
I'll be back for the soup, true that.
I LOVE this place, I've been waiting for a cereal restaurant for basically my whole LIFE. Yes, it is very basic right now, but I think that, as another reviewer said, it has lots of potential and the concept is awsome.
As is, moo-licious fulfills its basic promise of providing cereal and milk (and mix-ins). It's kind of like Yogurt Park, but instead of yogurt, they have cereal! They have some creative combinations, too, but there is room for a LOT more creativity. Some things that I would like to see:
-Unique bread for the sandwiches. Maybe from a local bakery or something... any kind of bread that isn't just plain 'ol bagged grocery store bread.
-Different flavors of milk, like strawberry and chocolate.
-Some tables.
-Lettuce that isn't iceberg for the salads.
What's really great, though, is that the people working there are SUPER NICE and are not stingy with portions/substitutions. Good customer service is really important to me!!
I think they're off to a great start... if people keep supporting them, I think they'll get even BETTER. =)
In a town where the curiously strange passes for de rigueur, I shook off many disbelieving glances from those turned out of sorts by the presence of this new venture.
Stating the obvious: it's a cereal "scoop shop" with more than 40 brands and a plethora of fresh and dried toppings in combinations your folks would never have allowed and you would never have imagined (even in grade school)-- ranging from healthy to not even close-- with your choice of milk, served in a bowl to be spooned or slurped as you please.
Yes it resembles an ice cream parlor, and it has decent sized t.v., clean surroundings, ample wall counter seating, with reasonable acoustics for conversation. Could be due to lack of crowds since it's still new, classes were about to wind down, and folks aren't sure what to make of this place.
Friendly staff, helpful creative menu (especially with customer-tested recommendations) guide those overcoming curbside dairy and sugar shockwaves and the sheer cheekiness of the concept.
Resisting all temptation to suggest this new venture bowled me over by going against the grain of cereal, um, serial offenders among the usual breakfast food options in town, will point out that in addition to current offerings, they're thinking outside the box by planning cereal infused ice cream, salads, soups/stews, and pizzas for summer fare. Unsure what exactly that means, but too curious to resist the potential.
So, I am 100% biased because I help with the store.
BUT from a student perspective, I loved the idea from the beginning which is why I wanted to help. The store is seriously not for everyone - it's a place to experiment and bring what you learn back home.
For example, I never EVER would have thought to mix honey, almonds, Life cereal, bananas and strawberries together, but sometimes I wake up and I just need it! Tons of people become addicted to the mixes, sandwiches and salads... not because it is just cereal, but because it is a new way of eating cereal that you can try at home!
As for the prices, I agree a bowl of cereal and milk would probably be $1.00 or so. A bowl with two cereals and milk would probably be $1.50. A bowl with two cereal and milk with toppings $3.00. A large bowl with two cereals and milk with toppings conveniently located on Telegraph $3.50.... Add to this the opportunity to choose from 30 different toppings and 40 different cereal choices.
(Btw, the cereal ice cream is only $2! Shhh... don't tell anyone :)
If anyone has any suggestions... you can always email mooliciouscereal@gmail..., too!
I am off to go get my Good Life, right now!!
Just try it. Seriously.
All i really have to say is, awesome. the menu is way more extensive than you'd think, since it all involves breakfast cereal.
I went a few days ago, and felt compelled to try the strawberry shortcake which was captain crunch, sugar, whipped cream, and strawberries. This was by far the best bowl of cereal i have ever had. My girlfriend got the PB&G. I can't remember what it was, but it was good.
I'm going back to try the ice cream.
So dude, check this out. Yesterday, I went to a cereal bar. And there wasn't any alcohol.
Where are my white russian honey bunches of oats and granola body shots? Where are the tables and stools? I can't even hang out here. What is this, a "I mix in cereal and milk for you" establishment? Minus 4 stars for misleading my expectations, +1 star for free coffee with cereal. Minus another 2 stars for corkage fee for bringing in my own cereal and milk , +9 stars for the cute bartender.
y'know... this is a REALLY interesting venture and i hope that it succeeds because it's SUCH a cool CONCEPT. I mean, if you're anything like me, you:
A) love you some cereal. there are just no substitutes for the satisfaction that a bowl of cereal (with some straight up whole vitamin D milk, get at me) can give you.
and 2) (yes, 2) you've been doin' something on any given day, and all of a sudden you feel the sudden onset of a crackhead-esque craving for a nice big bowl of applejacks. You dig?
So now do you see what i'm talking about? It's a pretty sweet CONCEPT, you have to admit...
but as far as execution goes. for the price of a bowl of cereal at this place, you could get a box of cereal... and some milk.... and a bowl and spoon... so....
it's your call.
As if I needed another reason to hate Birkly.
this place is the $hit!!! there is no better snack than cereal, and they give very generous portions, with some gooood toppings. not too expensive, and they have a great selection too!
the guys who work there are also really friendly and nice to talk to.
I'm opening a Top Ramen bar next door for people who can't figure out how to boil water.
Funny! A cereal bar! All kinds of junky cereal with choice of whole milk, low fat milk or soy, then a bunch of choices for toppings. Plus cereal sandwiches and cereal salads....
This place is great for getting some delicious cereal to go. I had "the good life" which was life cereal, bananas, almonds and honey. It was great and perfect for eating on-the-go. They need make the place a more suitable hang-out though. Lots of potential.
