I highly recommend Mood, especially if you have a less common/ more trendy fabric you are looking for.
I've searched all the usual LA haunts for tons of hard to find fabrics, and was shocked when I came to find Mood. It had the EXACT fabric I was even having trouble finding online.
I got great service (Kristin maybe was her name?), so maybe ask a different associate if you are having problems?
They had to order the fabric but shipped it to the store within a week.

This is the Disneyland of fabric.  Rows and rows of prints, solids, silks, cotton, jersey..oh me, oh my.

I live in the suburbs. The sub-par "fabric" stores in my area carry little to nothing that I find interesting. When I travel into the city to get a better selection, my wallet comes home crying.

Mood L.A. is amazing. I could have spent hours just looking around. However, I was not here alone. The boys in the group were only willing to hang out at the auto shop next store, for so long.

My daughter found a beautiful floral print jersey, right away. We were promptly helped at the cutting table and asked several times if we needed help.  I eventually decided on a cute cotton polka print...only $12 a yard! I can't wait to spin it into a fun little summer dress.

Minus 1 star for the lack of a public bathroom...which kept me from even getting into to the button section.

If I lived closer, I would probably camp out here.  I will be visiting the on-line store a lot.

    Thank you Mood!

I'm giving this store 2 stars for the fabrics but it looks like you are asking for a very special favor any question you ask.

Dont get mixed up with mood and bad customer service. I've gotten swatches from every single worker, plus they are willing to work with you and help you find alternative fabrics if its they ran out of the fabric you swatched. I honestly dont understand why people say the workers are rude. Do you expect the workers to bring you a hot towel and a wait at the front of the store and ask you what you need? No just go to one of the workers ask them if they aren't busy and if they aren't they help. their attitude depends on your attitude but that goes for everywhere.

This is probably the only fabric store I go to in LA because it's something I'm familiar with. Being a fashion design student in New York, we are always told to go to Mood. I usually go to the one in New York but I'm soooo glad that when I'm on break, the one and only other branch is in Los Angeles, my home. It makes things super convenient for me but anyways LOVE the different prints, textures, and fabrics that Mood has to offer. There is just sooo much stuff in there you can spend hours. They are a bit slow on cutting you swatch pieces if you want, but hey they're still nicer than the people in New York! (If you're pretty sly and quick, you may want to bring your own scissors to swatch! I do that in NY time to time! )

It was also cute to see that this Mood has a chihuahua as the dog that roams around the store, but in New York they have a bull dog. HAHAHA so funny... explains the opposite coasts pretty well!

BUTT if you're looking for some cheap fabric, this place is not the place to be! There's only nice designer goodies here that will be quite pricey depending on what you ask for! But definitely QUALITY IS KEY in clothes!!! sooo come and check out mood! It's squeaky clean and organized. :D

This place definitely has wonderful customer service.  We were asked several times if we needed help.  and when we did, it was easy to find someone to help us.

I bought a leather hide and the girl was very helpful on what to look for.

I just wish there was one in OC.  Then I won't have to brave the traffic to get to this one!

    BEWARE ALL YELPERS!!!

Not all Yelper's get it right and that's true for one Yelper in particular. Yesterday, prior to going to Mood Designer Fabrics, I wanted to check their store hours and came across a Quick Tip that said, " this place is CLOSED" ( the writer even had a picture of the 20/20 video store which is the store that is actually closed ). Imagine my shock , I couldn't believe it so I decided to call  but it was late and I got no answer. First thing this morning after getting my coffee, I jetted right over to 6151 West Pico Boulevard (address of Mood Fabric Designs) and guess what I found ?!?!?!? Mood Designer Fabrics was OPEN with no sign of being closed . It just goes to show you you can't believe everything that's written even if it is on our trusted Yelp.

Mood has an array of lovely textiles, notions, ribbons etc... with friendly,  knowledgeable staff. So ladies and gentlemen, we can continue creating our very own Project Runway designs :-) .

4 stars for the selection (they only have half the stuff the NYC and online stores have).  1.25 stars for the service.

I've come a couple times for various trims and buttons.  I've found what I'm looking for about 2/3 of the time.  The other times, I've had to go online.

This last visit was especially frustrating - I was looking for some buttons and was having a hard time finding exactly what I wanted.  I was obviously struggling and approach the guy at the front counter for help, expect before I actually get there (I was like 2 feet away), he announces he's going to lunch.  Thanks guy.  So I go and find another worker, who has NO clue what's going on.  He kinda tries to help me for 20 seconds, when he says he has to go look for help.  He comes back and says someone can help me in "30 minutes after lunch."  Shut up.

Finally, a young lady comes over.  Much better - when we couldn't find what I wanted, actually went online to verify what I wanted was there.  Thank you.

Only 1 competent worker out of 3.  The extra 0.25 star for the effort (though lackluster) of the second guy.  Guy at lunch gets nada.  Plus the 4 stars for the good selection = 5.25.  Average 2.5 ish.  I'll round up to be nice.

Has the potential to be a great place, if the staff cared.

This place has a pretty amazing collection of fabric going on. I tagged along to Mood with my sister, who's a fashion design student at Parsons, and saw her swatch for her new collection. Now I'm pre-med, so seeing all these different fabrics pretty much blew me out of the water. I was basically going down every aisle just touching all the different textures and absorbing all the different patterns. It's pretty cool that all our clothes come from a big ole square piece of fabric. And all the different buttons, OMGOSH. I wanted to make a shirt with buttons all over it. But this is probably why I'm not in the fashion field.

Anywho, seeing this place made me have mad respect for everyone in the fashion field. So yeeeee, to all yall designers, madddddd props!

I shop here A LOT.  It's a given that the fabric here will be amazing.  I am rating this only from my overall typical experience as a customer.

It is such a shame to encounter such an incredible selection but always feel like you need to be mean in order to get what you need.  I really love this store and it's so frustrating to have to deal with the staff - most of them, NOT all of them, really act entitled to be jerks just because they work here.  It is quite pathetic, but also can be expected (I can get how the far-stretched link to Project Runway can feed the ego).  And if it does have to do with the nature of their day to day "hard work," then do something else...!

Plainly, I am here because I want to buy something and having to deal with some staff person's lame attitude is a serious bummer. I mean...really?...Get over yourselves and you'll probably be happier.  I would spend more money here and less time looking for other places.

Love the fabrics, but honestly, I try to stay away from mood unless I really need their variety of fabrics because of their rude workers. As a student, I'm asked to get a lot of swatches, and then I buy yardage for projects after I get them approved. When I ask most of the workers there for swatches, they give me such a dirty look. I'm just doing what I need to do, and it's a service they offer. What do they expect? I stick to their limits (although I've heard different numbers from different people), and I respect them enough to wait around for one of the workers so that they can cut it for me. As I was waiting yesterday, I overheard one of the workers complaining about students to one of their customers. He was an older worker who apparently is from Europe, and he was bashing on students doing what they are told (to get swatches) and about how now designers have no sense of glamor and how he doesn't even step outside to look at clothes anymore because there's nothing to see and he'd rather spend money on drinks at a bar instead. Really? I'm sorry I was born in the wrong century and want to pursue fashion.

Mood. Your fabric selection is the only thing giving you these 2 stars.

I ran off to International silks and woolens right afterwards. Loved that place.

    BONER CITY!  Thank you mood!

I was in LA for business and when my good friend informed me that there is a Mood in LA.... I couldn't help but make a pit stop.  Well let me clarify... my friend informed me of a cuban restaurant I NEEDED to hit up, and described it as "across from mood".... Mood was merely the landmark description to help guide me to the cuban food.  but I digress....

So I walked in, and i swear I heard a harp playing inside my head.  The fabric selection is out of this world.  The demin was to die for, and so was their wide arrange of jersey knits.  The prices were okay... but then again, I wouldn't say they are any different than like Britex, or other high end fabric stores.

I was totally enamored by the leather collection and the wide variety of costume-y stuff like sequined fabrics, and feathers and notions..... ugh. so good.

I am DEFINITELY making a stop there again and spending more time, and bringing measurements with me so I can get as much fabric as possible.

They have an amazing selection and a knowlegable staff but I find them rude to be quite honest. A few of the associates there give unecessary attitude, I recall a not so good experience w/the pink hair lady. Also they don't list their percentage fiber content. The fact the fabric is from Italy does not compensate for what % content it contains.

This is paradise for creative people, costumers, designers and artists. My experience is that staff doesn't go out of their way to help you. You ask questions and they point in the direction to go then keep talking to each other. Who cares? I have spent over an hour here looking at everything and have found great bargains. The fact that I always spend double what I budgeted isn't their fault :-)

I do caffeine.  Sometimes I drink.  But no drug will give me quite the rush of walking into a fabric store, overwhelmed with creative possibilities.

I went shopping for some stretch silk charmeuse (shiny stuff, for you non-seamsters) for my hot mama birthday dress.  Mood has an incredible selection of just about everything except a huge range of colors of stretch silk charmeuse, it seems.  They have the kinds of fabrics here that barely need to be made into a garment.  You could just wrap them around yourself and walk out the door, high-style.

    Here's what else I liked:
    Close to the freeway
    Safe location
    Parking lot
Swatches already cut in the cottons
Huge selection of hard-to-find silk jersey
    Website

Special thanks to the very sweet and helpful staff, including the tiny girl who pulled bolts of fabric bigger than her out of the wall!

Love the fabrics, love the store (clean and organized, not the usual fabric store that looks like it was hit by an earthquake), love the chihuahua, hate the attitude from the two dudes on the floor. Never had a problem with the guy at the cash register or the ladies who work there. I am well aware of the need to be polite and have a positive attitude yourself. I do not consider store employees to be my servants, but I can't very well cut the fabric myself. Please don't act like it's a nuisance for customers to exist!

When I grow up, I want to be able to shop at Mood.  I'm a beginning sewer and stopped in to have a look, and immediately felt way out of my element.  (The employees were not unfriendly, I just know when I'm outgunned!)

Serious you-know-what-you're-doing people are picking up fabric here, with everything from Italian silks to crazy leather to spangly evening stuff . . . . .it's fun to look through materials you aren't really finding anyplace else and think about the possibilities.  I also like playing the "what is the skinny guy with the acid washed jeans and clipboard going to make with his armful of turquoise feathers?" game.

My version of mini Disneyland. I can (and have) roam happily for hours, touching, sighing, imagining. I also tend to spend more than I budgeted (just like in Disneyland!)
The store is smaller than their branch in NYC, but  still have good selections of quality fabrics. Take your pick: DVF silk jersey, CH silk faille or iridescent silk chiffon.
For common silk fabrics: chiffon, charmeuse, they have good color selections. You can also order for fabrics that they have in NYC store.

While the prices for fabric may be more costly then yee old Joannes or hole in the wall in the fashion district, Mood has the most plesent atmosphere of any fabric shop I've gone to.

Clean, easy to navigate and an AMAZING selection of fabrics. The staff rocks too. No cranky old ladies who glare at you when you ask for a swatch or high-school students who are only working here 'cause the Mcdonalds wasn't hiring. Everybody who works here is extremely good natured and amazingly helpful.

I came in the other day with a swatch of fabric I'd gotten from Mood a few days ago. It turns out I'd under-estimated the amount of fabric I'd acquired for a current project and needed to purchase a few more yards. But when I tried to find the original bolt of fabric, it wasn't there.

The staff actually  SEARCHED THE ENTIRE STORE for that long-lost bolt of fabric and eventually found it for me. I was ecstatic, especially seeing how I was worried I'd need to acquire a different type of fabric and start my project over again.

Quiet possibly the best fabric store in LA.

I bought a groupon yesterday for $30 worth of fabric for $15! I was looking for a fabric store because I planned to customize a dress that i own for my upcoming birthday. A friend suggested I go to Michael Levine in downtown but groupon gave me the perfect opportunity to go and check out Mood.

Anyway, I go to the front and I ask for specific help hoping that I can get out of there quickly and the "store manager," who doesn't act at all like a manager should, just points me in the direction of rows of fabric. Okay... I'm asking where I can find pink silk, yes I CLEARLY see all the fabric but a little direction would've helped. So I go by myself and try to search for the right fabric and a guy comes up to help me and he does a really good job giving me suggestions and what not. So i take a look at some of the fabrics that I was interested in and he asks me if I want to see the fabric on the table under the light for a better look, I say okay and tell him that I actually found out about Mood thanks to groupon. Then he was totally confused and says, "Okay before we do anything else, I'm not aware about any kind of groupon so you should go up and ask." I go up to that same rude "manager" and ask him if I can use my groupon, as to which he rudely replies, "you need to wait a day after purchasing the groupon to use it," and i say yes i purchased it yesterday so i'm allowed to use it today, no? and he says "it's fine, it's fine whatever" all pissed... okayy i don't understand, you guys are on groupon because obviously you guys want exposure or the economy isn't well and you guys need more customers... then shouldn't you be nice to first time customers so that we come back and spend our money?? Okay i don't care, I can use my little groupon so whatever. I go back to the guy who was helping me and I'm looking at the fabric and i get two yards of pink georgette then i get my receipt so i can pay up front then i'm like what is this? Basically, i was still unsure which fabric i wanted and when he me told BEFORE we do ANYTHING go up and ask about the groupon and while I went up to the counter to ask, he cuts up the WRONG fabric and added that to the fabric that I wanted...I THOUGHT YOU SAID "BEFORE I DO ANYTHING ELSE,"  MEANING YOU WERE'NT SUPPOSED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE TILL I ASKED ABOUT THE GROUPON So I said I didn't want the fabric and he says well I ALREADY cut it... YEAH I NEVER ASKED YOU TO CUT IT i did not ask you to cut this freaking fabric, i was still choosing and then you send me away and just cut it anyway?! whatever i didn't want to argue, i just purchased the darn thing  now i paid an extra $20 for a yard of fabric that I absolutely do not need.

Anyways, pretty okay selection of fabrics. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!

I'm giving Mood five stars even though they were setting up when I went for my first visit. They were not 100% ready for visitors, but were eager to help me out. Although they didn't have what I needed, they told me when they'd be getting it in and urged me to come back. Without any pressure they also let me walk around to check out the set-up of their new store.

I've eagerly been awaiting this fabric store's migration from NYC since seeing them on Project Runway. I'm know what you're thinking ... I'm a total poser ... I'm not in the league of our LaLa Land do-rights like Santino or Jeffrey Sebelia. I do, however, make killer curtains. You show me a design that can be cut in straight lines and sewn right up the sides and I'm your gal. Yes, I am one creative chick! ;)

No matter what you're sewing, you want the coolest fabric around and Mood is where you get it. Dropping in makes you feel like a college kid getting supplies for your next project. They have got tons and tons, and ... did I mention ... tons of fabric. The people in there are psyched to hear what you're working on and help you pick out what will work best for you.

Parking is great too ... the lot is ample and best of all ... FREE! Welcome to LaLa Land Mood ... make it work! ;)

The selection in Mood Fabrics is breathtaking. Endless possibilities and choices upon choices for anyone to choose from. The owner was pleasant and kept a neat store which is impressive for a place where fabric is taken down, cut from a bolt, and the bolt returned to its proper place.

Fabric is not cheap but the quality of every fabric is beautiful. After setting foot in Mood, I certainly had the thought of 'Bye bye JoAnns and Yardage Town! I've found fabric heaven!'

Will definitely visit and do business here again.

Yes, the NY store is better. It's the original and it's in the Schmatta district, whaddya expect?

To the ladies who whined about the prices, especially the ones in fashion school. Just wait till you have to buy those very same fabrics wholesale for your line. Then you'll see what a deal you're getting at Mood! $300/yard French-made beaded lace is $300 because it's not made by slaves in a 3rd world country, it's made by well-paid artisans.

I love Mood because they scour the coolest designer's leftovers and that's what they sell. I've seen prints designed exclusively by/for designers I used to work for at Mood a couple years after they hit the stores. You can't get that level of fabric anywhere, not even in any of the schlocky fabric stores downtown.

I came into Mood the other day with my sister on a search for material for my bridesmaid dress for her wedding.  She's been there before so she knew exactly where to go.

There was a good mix of FIDM students, decorators, fashionistas and sewing grandmothers roaming around.  There were also plenty of Mood employees ready to cut your fabric of choice.  Everything is labeled and organized quite nicely.  But, the rolls of fabric are all stacked on top of each other so you may need some assistance.

TIP:  The price tags are tucked into the tube so don't look like a dummy asking the sales peeps how much your silk satin is per yard.

The gal who helped us was very knowledgable and friendly.  I would hunt the same girl down if I were to return to Mood.

I don't know much about pricing but It felt a little steep.  But that's me: a gal who doesn't know how to thread a friggin needle and couldn't sew something if her life depended on it.  Yup.

The best place to find nice fabric in LA.  When you've finally given up on trying to make do with the dated prints and poly-blends at the big chain stores, come here.  I was overwhelmed by the all the options of beautiful fabric available.  Added bonus is you can find real designer's fabric here - make your own Pucci scarves for less than half the cost of the real deal!
I thought customer service was fine, everyone was pleasant and helpful.  I wish it were a little more afforadable, plus their notions dept is a little sparse compared to what they have to offer in fabric, but I'm not complaining too much.  Mood is great.

    Woooooooooooof

Can you say Creative Stimulation? I do and did! Walking into a fabric store for me is like a kid in a candy store. Yeah, I get all excited and start drewling all over the dang place.

What a selection of GREAT fabrics and notions. In 15 minutes of my shopping adventure I had 6 fabrics picked out and with every turn I was eyeballing even more. I have learned that if you see something that you like BUY IT! Dint; wait to come back as I would say that there is not a chance in hell of it ever being there again.

    Great selection
    Great help
    Great knowledge
    Great prices

This is a top 2 places for me to go to in LA for fabric. I do like F & S for
some very limited things but I waled around there today and did not have 1 spark of excitement or creativity. Hmmmm, I was thinking I had lost it but then I went up the street to Mood and got my groove thing back!
    Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Thanks Mood! I will be back in a week to buy more cashmere, wool, leather and what ever you may have!

What a disappointment. Stopped by their West Coast location looking to buy more than 20 yards of high price lace and taffeta - along with the usual buttons, zipper, crinoline, etc - for my wedding dress. I was ready to spend in the four figures based on my designer's specifications.

A shame their customer service seems to be reserved for men in skinny jeans and girls with pink hair. Being a conservative East Coast person, I was ignored by every single employee. Literally.

I forged on! My dream dress demanded it! Bitchy, self important minimum wage FIT reject monkeys be damned!

Oh. Wait. Their selection for lace was terrible. Perhaps they were trying to be ironic, but this crap wasn't good enough for my great grandmother's weird couch coverings. Scratchy Golden Girls cast-off lace at $40.00 a yard? No thank you. The silk taffeta was over priced and I had previously found better deals online.

Save yourself the traffic, the trouble, the attitude, the terrible selections and... I don't know. Have lunch at Versailles instead.

    That's what I did.

I am a fashion design student and shop regularly at Mood. The only reason I come back is for the product, not their customer service. I feel like I am bothering their employees when I need something swatched or cut. Mood in NY is definitely THE best. They once gave me a swatch of the leather.
Pros: Free parking, free swatches, a cute chihuahua
    Cons: Rude staff, inflated prices

I went here shopping for any modern chic floral or print COTTON fabric and I was disappointed. I'm a fan of Heather Bailey or something along that line. I'm not a fabric snob, I just wanted something cute. I didn't find one pretty fabric. My visit was awhile ago so maybe it has changed. I will not go here if I want a pretty cotton print.

I always find what I am looking for when I come here! The staff is usually helpful and nice when it comes down to cutting out swatches.

They were just plain rude to my sister and I when all we wanted was to buy fabric from them. Won't be going back there!

I have shopped at Mood  several times. Each time  I have been there has been wonderful.  The customer service is the best.  They sometimes know what I need before I do.  The selections are endless.  They are #1 on my list.
