Neighborhood: Montlakeeasy going place, your usual "american" fare. i ordered the garden burger as i figured it'd be pretty hard to mess up. i was right. but it was huge.
our waitress was nice enough, i just wasn't wowed. i thought the prices were a bit high for what they were offering. i would've given them a two, but a two feels too low, like something i'd give to a place with a super rude/inattentive/dirty staff... but it wasn't that, it was just all kinda.. blah.
therefore, a three. shmeee.
Hey, it's not so bad. Points for being a no-frills local place.
There's potential to be a sports bar, but the family-fun-time feel deters from that.
The trivia is sort of challenging, but mostly easy. At least they offer better prizes than Finn's. Really though, this is the shortest trivia night ever, over in a half hour tops. Could the emcee stop acting like he has better things to do?

This place is nothing special, though it did seem particularly kid friendly (if that matters to you) . . .they have this sort of "kid pit."
They totally forgot to bring me the food I ordered which made me very grumpy.

Perfect pub. Wish I lived closer, or at least level with the place. I would have to stumble up Montlake on the way home and I have a few times. It's worth the trek, though.
Great food, rotating beer, a strong bloody mary and the lighting is good. I haven't seen kids in there and I don't mind the idea of having kids in there sometimes. It makes me feel like those kids will grow up to think there is no big deal about drinking.
Seattle is not a big sports bar town. So, to see any semblance of sports on the tele is refreshing.
The bartenders are really intelligent and kind, so have something to say when you go there. Great bar.

Great little pub in the neighborhood, always friendly consistant food, Great beer selection, and to all the haters I read on here you boring Seattle food snobs get over it, its a neighborhood pub, you want good food go to Portland or next door to Lago , Cause everone is doing the same damn thing that thay have been doing here for the past 10 15 years in terms of food here(with the exception of a handful of resturants (Lark, Harvest Vine a couple otheres) if you want someting fancy spend the money or get over your uptight seattlite selvs and BTW liberal to the core here just a realist please get on the boat too please peace out
Nothing terribly exciting, but a good, casual place for trivia on Wednesday nights. My burger and fries were good, as were the nachos. Our waitress was friendly and checked in several times to make sure we were doing okay. The trivia is relatively easy and not too crowded.

This is the closest bar to my house, so I really wish I liked it, but it really doesn't do anything for me.
The menu, beer selection, and decor are all nondescript. Not bad, just not especially notable. The staff is nice, and the TVs always have the proper games on.
The biggest strike against it is the kids area. In 10 or 15 years, I'll probably think that's awesome, but when I want to drink, I don't want to hear kids having fun.
Pretty good food if you have lowered your expectations considerably. Definitely not a place to seek out and go to for food. For kids - yes they can be at your side. But the kid "pit" is very dark and toys are broken and dirty. If they lit it up more we would return.
Nothing outstanding here for us. We live a block away and have only been a half dozen times in three years. Why would I rather drive or take a bus elsewhere? This place is very ho-hum. I think if you live in the neighborhood, want to eat pub food, watch a football game, and drink booze with your kids at your side, this is a good choice. Otherwise, there are so many other interesting places in this town.

Montlake Ale House can derelicte my balls. I had an "incident" one night where I lost my cell phone at a Husky Game. I went to this place and asked to use their phone to call my phone. I even ordered a drink and generously tipped the snatchy waitress to make it worth their while. She told me that I couldn't talk for more than a few minutes cuz the phone line was needed for the credit card machine, and I said that it'd only take a bit. So, after 30 SECONDS of talking to the person who found my phone and giving him directions to the Ale House to meet me, the entire waitstaff was at the other end of the bar huddled around the credit card machine hollering and pounding the bar and hassling me to hurry up. I could understand if they were super busy and on a tight schedule, and I could understand if I wasn't a paying customer yet taking a super long time, but they were practically empty and I was being as quick as possible. It was rude and uncalled for and I didn't appreciate the way they treated a first-time customer.

Not a bad place. Great selection of beers, and tasty food. We had the fish and chips.... which was delicious. Props to our friendly server.
The thing is, this place doesn't really have a "wow" factor. It's good food, but priced probably as high as they can get away with without being considered expensive. Lots of tv's, which is fine, but the atmosphere didn't really make a strong impression either way. If you're in the neighborhood and need some casual food or a beer, this place is worth it. For a memorable experience, you might want to do a little more searching.

This is a good neighborhood Tavern. Good burgers, sandwiches and daily specials, and of course good liquor and beer. The service is always friendly. But the coolest thing is the baby gladiator pit. It's a large, round sunken sitting area with a few toys. It's lined by a wooden sitting counter with chairs so parents can put their kids in there and watch them play.

I only ever come here for Drinking Liberally (every Tuesday night from 8:00pm, bring a friend!) but not because I'm actively avoiding it otherwise. Friendly "trying to be a sports bar and not quite making it" atmosphere, decent beer and pub-food menu (though I remember being vaguely disappointed with the wings), large screen teevee in the corner, and what has been described to me as a "kid pit" in the back for that family-friendly touch. Parking is... a challenge.

It's always full and is a completely, typically, authentically, neighborhoodly pub. Standard pub fare with soups and sandwiches designed to make you feel good while you kick back some great beer - lots of local microbrews. This is a true locals kind of place.
