The Original Ribs King! This is a true Cincinnati experience. Because it is located in downtown Montgomery, it has a different feel than the boathouse, but it is nice nevertheless.

I find the inside a bit loud and smoky, but once you start eating, it doesn't matter anymore. Personally, I prefer the sauce to the actual ribs, and I highly recommend that you buy a bottle at the front of the restaurant. Montgomery Inn also makes its signature Saratoga chips, which go really well with the ribs.

This restaurant is great for groups and ideal if you are taking out visiting relatives or friends.

I had heard great things about this place so when I got a chance to see the Reds/Braves game a couple of days ago, I decided to check it out.

I was rather disappointed in everything.  The ambience was nice, but the food I found lacking.  The ribs were tasty, but they weren't up there with the ones I had just had at Mark's Feed Store in Kentucky, which was strange because Montgomery Inn was supposed to be more well-known and reputable.  I enjoyed the shrimp and the Saratoga chips, but, again, they weren't anything special compared to other BBQ places.

Overall, I was very underwhelmed.

Pretty much everything it's cracked up to be... I was extremely impressed, and I didn't even have ribs. The pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese side was enough for me. Bonus points for the waiter refilling my drink 4 times without even asking and then giving me a to-go refill for no extra charge. Awesome place.

Some very considerate clients invited us to enjoy a great barbecue meal at this local institution.  I may be less discerning than some other recent reviewers - San Francisco isn't known for its plethora of great barbecue options - but I thought the food was great.  I had a trio of sandwiches including a super-smokey brisket, a delectable pulled pork and a yummy pulled chicken, and I also got to graze on my colleague's ribs which were excellent.  Professional, friendly service and a decent wine list added up to a very enjoyable evening.  Definitely add this one to your list when in Cincinnati.

I went to the Original Montgomery Inn after a football game (when the Bengals tied the Eagles--a game that neither team seemed that interested in winning).  The restaurant had a upscale sports bar feel to it, which surprised me a little bit.  I was expecting it to be more of a stuffy place.

First off, the ribs were great (4 to 5 stars worth).  Very fall-off-the-bone tender.  And the barbecue sauce had a nice, distinct taste.  The Saratoga chips with barbecue sauce were actually pretty good as well (the only downside--you couldn't just eat one or two or a whole bunch, and who wants to fill up on potato chips).

I found the rest of the food to be okay at best.  The crab cakes were pretty bad.  The gulf shrimp Cantonese were okay.  As far as the chocolate volcano (basically a chocolate molten cake with vanilla ice cream), it was pretty much the same as you would get anywhere elsewhere.

Still, the ribs are definitely worth the visit if you are in the area.

As I was telling Catie, if I've had better ribs, I don't know where it would have been.  Since we planned to eat twice (what else would you do on a trip to Cinci?) we had to go light at both places.  I had a half rack accompanied by mac & cheese.  The mac & cheese was very good but the real reason for being was the ribs.  And they were outstanding!  So good, as a matter of fact, that I bought an extra slab to bring home.

And the restaurant itself is beautiful.  I meant to ask the owner how long it's been since they remodeled but I forgot.  It's finished in dark wood and the layout is striking.

And we easily made friends when we told them that we came down just for the food.  But it turns out that there will be a Montgomery Inn in Columbus on 4/15.  It will be opening on Riverside Dr.  I'll bet they do a land-office business.

I live in the South now but I am from Cincinnati and these are still the best ribs I've ever had. Delicious BBQ sauce, falling off the bone, perfect perfect comfort dinner food with the family or on a date.. A little bit nicer/more pricey than a casual dinner, but if you want a relaxing meal, this is the place to go. Everything on the menu is good. Calamari is always a rockin' appetizer, and they are famous for those oh-so-good Saratoga chips. MMMM baked sweet potato! Writing this review is making me hungry!

Service is top notch at this location. They always make you feel right at home. There's always a wait, call ahead for sure-- I think they take reservations now. Another thing about Montgomery Inn-- they will dry ice ribs to you!! When I lived in Connecticut my dad sent me two king size slabs in the mail, complete with sauce, wet wipes, the works. AWESOMENESS. I never have dessert here, but they do have Graeters black raspberry chip all the time. YUM!

Very nice place. I got the nice meal of ribs and a baked sweet potato.. It was very nice. The waitress was sweet.
The ribs were a good flavor, tender and fell off the bones. The sauce was sweet, a little to vinegary for me be nice none the less. It was good meet. The sweet potato came with a cinnamon butter which added to its goodness.
They say there will be one opening on Riverside Drive in Columbus soon this will be good as I would love to visit sometime after it opens.
This was a nice treat.

By far the best ribs I have ever eaten in my life. Literally fell off the bone. The BBQ sauce is something that can only be described by poetry. I'm not going to write any, but yeah it's that good. The jalapeno corn cakes really topped off the whole experience.

The service was awesome, the ambiance was great, everything was just phenomenal. I *love* this place, I will be going back.

After a day at IKEA for me, and an Reds game for the husband, Montgomery Inn was a nice place to unwind.
The atmosphere was really relaxing and the service was good.
It's the only place where I have a found a Ribs and Duck combo!
They were both good, but the ribs didn't have as much meat as I would have anticipated with a $22 price tag.  My soda was flat, the bread was average (cold butter, err) and the steamed broccoli was too tough to cut, therefore it was left on the plate.

But I think for the quality of food it gets too much hype.
The restaurant's not worth the price tag!

If you're going to go to a Montgomery Inn on your visit to Cincinnati, make it to the one on Montgomery Road.  Why?  Well, first of all, because it's the original restaurant and nothing is ever better than the original.  Second, if you ever have a chance at seeing a celebrity in Cincy, it'd be at this place (George Clooney has visited, along with multiple other A-listers and sports stars).  Third, because it's the most casual of the Montgomery Inn's...I don't know about you, but if I'm going to gorge myself on BBQ I like to be comfortable.

I'm not actually a rib eater so I will vouch for the BBQ Chicken at Montgomery Inn.  Ask for all white meat and you'll receive two huge and juicy quarter chickens with slightly crispy skin and a generous dish of the famed BBQ sauce for dipping.  I order the whole meal for myself and take half of it home for the next day!  Saratoga Chips are the best side pairing at Montgomery Inn, but I have had many out of state visitors say they aren't as amazing as I think they are...so if you aren't impressed, try the crispy onion straws instead.

Make sure you save room for dessert at Montgomery Inn to get the full Cincinnati experience.  Diners can get a huge (I swear it's a whole pint) serving of Graeter's Black Raspberry Chip for $5!

ALWAYS call ahead for a reservation, this restaurant is forever packed.

We have our own smoker at home, and make our own ribs all summer. I've lived in Texas, Missouri, and visit the south and Memphis often. I consider myself comfortable with the likes of BBQ.

I ordered the pulled pork, which I judge all BBQ places by. There's is tip top. I also ordered the homemade chips and sauce. mmmmmm.

Service: We were a group of 15, the waitress was on top of her game. She never missed a beat and made sure our drinks were full.

Tips: let the waitress tie the plastic bib on for you, you know you want it. Also, pick up a bottle of the sauce on your way out in the gift shop.

To me, the best ribs in the world, and the original is better than the boathouse by the river as well. The sauce is awesome and the sports atmosphere is outstanding. Its a little pricey, but well worth it. If you are ever in town and like ribs then stop here and eat. If you are going on a weekend night, get a reservations.

Wow. Just wow. So many five star reviews convinces me that my pallet truly is better than most. Don't get me wrong, it's not garbage, but is farrrrrrrrrrrr from the hype it gets. The ribs are average at best and the side dishes rival that of mcdonalds.

Very disappointing to see so many brainwashed people believing this place is great. I went with some out of town friends and truly was embarrassed I brought them there.

P.S. Their wine is terrible too.

I will say it: Montgomery Inn is slightly overrated, but ONLY slightly! The location in Montgomery is gorgeous. It feels like you're in someone's spacious home, and then they filled it with really good tasting ribs.

Montgomery Inn is known for their unique barbecue sauce and their ribs. There are pictures of all sorts of celebrities adorning the walls, making sure Cincinnatians know they are remembered selectively for their food.

And yes, as I said before, the ribs are good. I really enjoy eating at Montgomery Inn whenever I get a chance, but I really think they aren't the best I've ever had. The sauce is great, but sometimes it's a little too sweet to me, and the ribs don't exactly have meat falling off of them.

Still, if anyone is ever up for taking me there,  I would never object!

There isn't the "striking" view of the Ohio River and it doesn't attract all the celebrities like the Boathouse, but the original Montgomery Inn Restaurant isn't lacking anywhere else. Part of its charm is the fact that it is the original, and the location in beautiful downtown Montgomery helps the 57-year restaurant as well.

I usually get to go to Montgomery Inn two or three times a year, and although the Boathouse is more special, I enjoy the original Montgomery Inn just a much. The food speaks for itself, and if you want to hear more about the food then read the other reviews. I will simply tell you one thing about that: ribs. I'd rather talk about why the original Montgomery Inn is special

Although I've never been a part of a private party there, Montgomery Inn does offer seven private rooms and they can accommodate as few as eight guests and as many as 200, according to their website. There are charges, advance deposits, minimum guest numbers, and all that fun stuff for those rooms, but the Bearcat Room and the Back Room are not booked Saturday nights.

I don't like how the website calls their wait staff "wonderful," because I should be the judge of that, but I can't actually disagree. The service is great and usually quick too, and of course the food is great. If you've read any of my past reviews, you can probably tell that I am a huge sports fan, so of course the sports memorabilia is an attraction for me. The Original's collection is much different from the Boathouse's, but there are plenty of neat items. Just to name a few items of memorabilia are framed signed jerseys of Ken Griffey, Sr. and Jr. and Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire, a Bob Huggins-signed UC flag, and even the college jersey of soon-to-be All-Star and former Sycamore High School/University of Cincinnati star baseball player Kevin Youkilis.

There's not much else to say about Montgomery Inn other than that I love it...I love it.

Without a doubt the best Ribs I have ever had.  Tender, meat falling of the bone.  Sauce is excellent, not to sweet, just right.

First stopped hear back in 1980, and have been back dozens of times since then.

Order the full slab, "you can do it"!!!

Ahh, Montgomery Inn. A Cincinnati classic. I won't lie - I'm not particularly impressed with the ribs, the brisket isn't really so fabulous, and I've had better cornbread, but OH MY the SAUCE! I could drink it. I have drank it. It's amazing.

They just don't make sauce like that in Chicago. I'm picking up several bottles next time I'm back in the 'Nati.

I was visiting, and my Cincinnati friend told me that this was the place to go for the best ribs in town.  So we dutifully went, and the ribs were pretty darn good.  The petite set was more than enough for me, and I was impressed by how tender the meat was - I didn't need my knife at all, and I didn't even need to use my fingers (although they did put a bib on me).  The meat came off easily using just my fork.  I'm glad I eschewed my healthy side and decided to order the mac n' cheese as my side as its richness and flavor were a perfect complement to the barbecue sauce-bathed ribs.  Graeter's ice cream topped the meal off at the end and was richly satisfying ... definitely get it.

My first time here was on Wednesday 5/13 during a work trip. Had the ribs. It was so tender, it fell of the bones without much help. The sauce was delicious. I can see why it's famous for ribs. Service was very attentive and the dessert (some local ice vanilla bean cream) was really good. I hope I can go there again some day.

As good as any ribs I have had in any of the bigger cities like Chicago.  As a native Chicagoan, I have always been partial to Carson's.  My wife grew up in Cincy and almost every time we go there, I request a trip or at least ordering out from there.  They are famous for their BBQ ribs and chicken, but their more traditional BBQ is excellent as well.  I love their BBQ brisket and pulled pork sandwiches and the cornbread is off the hook.  They have a sampler that I would highly recommend on your first trip there.  If you want a true taste of famous Cincy cuisine, this is a must stop.

Their ribs are the truth, and nothing short of that.  I would like to see a national ribs taste test and see where MI places.  Sure, BBQ is one of those foods where everyone has their own preferences, but I am pretty sure nobody can find fault in their ribs.  That is why they are the Ribs King, and undoubtedly they have the best ribs I have ever eaten.  Their onion straws are equally amazing and appetizing, too.  These clowns who come from San Francisco and eat here once, then feel compelled to review it, and then rate it 3 stars with little reason or rationale should be eliminated from http://yelp.com.  At least explain why it merits a less than perfect rating if you choose to rate it that.  Otherwise, gtfo if you can't learn to write a review.

that being said, their ribs and saratoga chips would be part of my last meal on earth if i had the choice.  simply awesome.

Some say the best ribs on the planet.  I like them pretty well, but I think that claim is pushing it.  Don't like the bottled sauce too much.  Hate the boathouse location down on the river downtown.  This is a nice place to visit though.
