The staff is friendly, courteous and prompt. The food is great! Huge portions, great prices, wonderful flavor. Served quickly and hot. They have a large menu with great variety. They offer plenty of options for the vegetarian in your crowd.
No clue about the complaints from Stephanie S. about cockroaches. I have been going to this restaurant for a while now and the place has always been clean and tidy when I have gone. I actually like the dark atmosphere of the restaurant. Get a table near the fireplace to make it extra cozy. Sit on the patio if you need the light of day. Much better food and a smaller crowd than at Neuvo Loredo.
I would give Monterrey 5 stars except that they tend to lose their liquor license every so often and their only tequila is Patron.

Friendly people and great service. The food came out hot and delicious. I ate here for the first time around 5-6 years ago, and I forgot where it was but I remembered how good the enchilada's were. I finally found it and came back last Sunday for dinner with a friend. They weren't as good as I remember, but that didn't detract from my experience there.
The atmosphere was small and intimate, not a lot of windows, but festive decorations hung around and made the gloomy air bright. The waiters were really nice and professional, despite their burly appearance. The food was cheap and good, and the margarita's there were extremely good.

I can't be sure if this restaurant used to be a strip club, but the plain building with no windows kind of makes me think that it was at some point. Maybe I'm subliminally leaning toward the conclusion since it's next to Swinging Richards? The owners have tried to compensate by making the exterior brightly colored, but the lack of windows makes it a little too dark and gloomy inside when you're having lunch. If hindsight it would have been a good move to sit outside on the patio instead.
The enchiladas were good, mainly because of the massive amounts of chicken they put inside them here. Three enchiladas was more food than I could handle, I was expecting the small, mostly tortilla enchiladas you find at most inexpensive Mexican restaurants.
Service was good, mainly because we were the only ones in the place for lunch at the time. Bonus star for having the PSV Eindhoven vs Ajax game on at the bar.

Excellent food and great service. There are no windows, which leads a friend of mine to speculate that it used to be a strip club. That, and the giant bell that hangs at the end of the bar... and possible former runway location...?!
I strongly recommend the Quesadilla Supreme for a pile of sauteed veggies on a delicious bed of cheesy goodness.
