103 reviews for Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa
One of Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa's Favorite Reviews What's This?
This was probably one of the most relaxing hotel stays! The room overlooking the balcony was so nice. Sleeping to the sounds of waves crashing is priceless! The staff was very accommodating and hospitable, which made our stay comfortable. Each and ever person we encountered was just as nice as the last! I'd definitely stay here again.
I requested for a room on the upper floors so we would have a better view and I couldn't have been more pleased.
I really liked the valet parking and the wifi. The fee for it is DEFINITELY worth it. 25 bucks for valet and wifi? We'll take it! The valet had great timing. We called as we were heading down and by the time we got downstairs, our car was waiting for us. They even wipe down your windows for you!
The beds and pillows were really comfortable and the room even had an iHome! Perfect for this iPhone user! The rooms were a bit small, but that's okay, it's not like I'm running a marathon in there. The shower was really nice and the toiletries smelled good. The room even comes with binoculars so you can see the whales when it's....whale season? The view at night is spectacular.

For my bday, my bf surprised me with a weekend in Monterey. He picked out this hotel for us. Every time I'd come to Monterey, i would always see this hotel and imagine what it would be like to stay here. It was beautiful!
Just from the outside/main entrance you get that classy feel for the hotel. There's valet parking which is already included in the resort fees. The staff there is very friendly, helpful, and accommodating!
We stayed in a room with a balcony. Let me tell you, this was one of the most spacious standard rooms I've ever stayed in. I'm very particular with the places I stay at. But this place is very clean! Towels/supplies were always stocked. There were neat bathrobes provided for our use. The bed was like heaven!!! So comfortable. Clean and fresh sheets....one of those beds that make you not wanna get out...I just wanted to stay in that room all day. The room came equipped with a flat screen TV and an ihome...loved the ihome! it served as a back up charger for my iphone and ipod since i left my charger back home.
I'm not too sure how much the rate for the room was. But i was told it was pricey...but for the price it was well worth it...beautiful hotel, beautiful views...
Overall I'm very satisfied with my stay. I would definitely stay here again.
I was hesitant at first to book a room at this hotel after reading some of the reviews on the booking sites. A lot of people complained about the service at this hotel, but judging from my recent experience here, they couldn't have been more wrong.
Everyone at the hotel, EVERYONE, was always eager and happy to help in any way. We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that booking it through expedia included the valet fee and a $50 resort credit. I didn't see a mention of this at all when I was booking the room, so it totally made the stay that much better!
In addition, we wandered up to the spa/jacuzzi and was once again pleasantly surprised to find that they were doing complementary wine and cheese up there. The views from here, and almost anywhere else in the hotel for that matter, were achingly beautiful.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to book a hotel in this price range in Monterey. And I am definitely planning to stay at this hotel in any future trips to Monterey.
After spending a day at Laguna Seca with my wife, we were beat and exhausted... we originally made reservations at a hole-in-a-wall place, but our friend said he was leaving town that day and had a room already paid for at Monterey Plaza. We didn't hesitate and took up his offer. We looked into having our wedding here a couple years back, but decided to go with a winery instead.
First impression, beautiful hotel with lots of views of Monterey Bay. Nice stairway going down from the entrance... perfect for pictures if you're having an event such as a wedding. Everything looked top notch and the service was very friendly. When we got to our room, the first thing we noticed was the huge windows displaying the view. We cracked open the windows to listen to the waves, birds, sea life.... There was a digital thermostat where you could make your room as hot or cold as you like it. Bathrooms were clean and spacious with lots of good lighting. Bed was nice and comfy, but wasn't the sturdiest thing.... it moves a lot! lol Besides that, we really enjoyed our night there, check out at 12pm was awesome and painless! Will we be coming back?! OF COURSE....!
This place was absolutely worth going. The staff at the hotel is very friendly. The atmosphere and the whole scenery is picture perfect. They also offer the duck club and schooners restaurant in the hotel as well. When we checked in there was an elegant wedding party almost like the ones you see in a movie. An orchestra was playing outside and the decorations were gorgeous. I would absolutely come back to this hotel if i'm in the area.
This was a very nice experience - even if only for a night!
The hotel itself inside is very luxurious - exactly what I would think of if I thought of Monterey and luxury at the same time :-)
The staff was very professional and courteous. The room itself was typical of a nicer hotel - nicely appointed and not huge, but not tiny either. We enjoyed breakfast via room service (I wanted to go downstairs to the cafe/restaurant for breakfast with a view of the bay - but she didn't want to have to get dressed and "dolled up" so early ;) ) The breakfast tasted good overall, the omelet was good taking into consideration is was made and then time passed as it came all the way up to the room. $9 for a small pot of coffee brought our room service adventure to about $67 or so....
$150 for the room via Expedia plus a $50 credit (used for food - room service).... not a bad deal :)
As stated before, this hotel is very nice - and it is a 4 Star Hotel. One of the best you'll get in the area - I have had a slightly nicer stay at Fairmont Maui and Fairmont Miami, but this was definitely no slouch of a hotel! We would stay again and maybe relax a bit longer looking out to the sea and sipping on wine or cocktails.
3 years ago to this very day...
It was a bright sunny day in Monterey...
This particular place is where I stand before 178 guests to witness me as I sign my young life away...
"I" became "We" and my new last name starts with a "G" and no longer with a "D"
Over looking the ocean onto the horizon, I pictured how my life would be, a perfect fairy tale version of me being happy...
But in reality, whatever the outcome maybe...
For better or for worse...
I will always do things that will make me happy.

MPH&S is a world of it's own. I love coming here, it feels nostalgic not because I got married here a few years back, but it feels so romantic feeling the salty breeze hitting against my face as my hair blows with the wind.
The Hotel's staff are extremely cordial. I appreciate their politeness. From the doormen, front desk, concierge, and room service.
I had the opportunity to stay in the Cannery Row suite at $1700 a night for two nights I felt like a queen!
Ah! The good life!
I will be back!

What an amazing few nights sleep I had here!!! This place was top notch, location was gorgeous and the staff was excellent.
Well worth a stay if you can swing it! Rooms overlooking the Pacific make an excellent stay even better.
Very professional staff, and an amazing waterfront location make this a great place for a wedding.
I have photographed several weddings here, most recently in August 2009, but never reviewed the venue until now. My experience has been consistently positive in every way. The location provides absolutely gorgeous photo-opportunities, and the guests always seem to be having a super time. Some consider it pricey, but the quality stands out above many other options available in Monterey.
If you're planning a wedding, I would recommend having a look at Monterey Plaza Hotel. You can see an extensive collection of wedding photos taken here at:

This place is very nice but needs a better restaurant or two (read my other review on Duck Club Grill). For the price paid (almost $500) for a deluxe king bed, ocean view with balcony....I expected a bigger room and slightly more amenities.
It is, however, very clean, quiet and luxurious with awesome views of the Monterey Bay. But I think for the money, I may opt for the Embassy Suites next time, maybe.
Recently went on a trip and we booked our selves here. It was wonderful. We got a really good mid week rate and asked for an upgrade and ended up with an ocean view. The staff was really friendly. The accommodations were awesome. it was the perfect get away. Close enough by that your not driving home forever but far enough away to feel like you really are along way from home.
We have spoiled ourselves with staying at the Plaza there is just not going back from here.
there are lots of little shops. A cafe and a great view from the piazza. Great location just a hop skip and jump form the aquarium and the excitement of cannery row. I would highly recommend staying here.
Really nice digs, and even better when your friends pay for your room as a guest at their wedding. Very pretty view of the ocean. Wife loved two things: (1) giant bath robe, and (2) binoculars provided to look out over the water. The rooms were spacious and spotless - same with the bathroom. Very courteous staff without being stuffy. The concierge was unavailable, and a couple of other members of the staff quickly and happily put their heads together for assisting my wife with her desires for seeking some off the beaten path wineries, and some art gallery.
As for a wedding venue -- the reason we were there in the first place -- from a guest's point of view, it was great. Stylish with an accommodating staff (but I did not pay, so the bride and groom may have a different take). I laughed because someone else mentioned wedding confusion with multiple weddings happening simultaneously, and guests going to the wrong wedding. One of those was my wife and I. To Daniel and Angela (I think), you were a great looking pair. Sorry to have crashed by accident, but we did not eat any food or take any favors. :)

This review is for the SPA at Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa.
I went here this past weekend with a group of friends.
Pricing: We received a 25% group discount that was applied towards any 50 minute massage of our choosing. My massage was 90 bucks after the 25% plus I added on around 20% for a tip.
Ambiance: The place is classy and I love the architecture of the building. It is on the 5th floor of a former ocean front estate spot overlooking the Monterey ocean near Cannery Row. I love the aesthetics and the classy feel it had. It was calm, soothing, and def. felt relaxing to be at.
Parking: They valet at the Monterey Plaza Hotel if you are a spa guest.
Massage: I had a 50 minute deep tissue massage and it felt great. I did not feel uncomfortable at all and they are very professional about it. The massage bed was heated and the room was dark (with a small light/very dim lighting).
Accommodations: They have lockers and female/male locker rooms. They have some fruit and tea for guests in the waiting area and water dipped with different types of fruit such as strawberry. There is a small gym with pretty updated equipment (e.g. tv's on the gym equipment) and an outdoor steam room /jacuzzi area that overlooks the ocean (beautiful view!). I believe it could get another star from me if it had more snacks and drinks provided (e.g. coffee, iced tea, etc.).
Excellent view! Great customer service!
I had an excellent stay here. drove up north for a night and enjoyed a nice ocean view room. the balcony was clean and i was able to see sea otters right outside. they provided some binoculars to view out to the ocean and i thought that was a nice touch. my room was super clean and house keeping tucked my bed super tight so i like when the bed is clean and made good. the bathroom was nice and spacious.
went up to the 5th floor for the hot tub and overlooking the bay was a nice view after a long drive up from LA. the staff was professional and friendly. woke up with a wall street journal at the door, flat screen tv, robes... i mean it was top notch. and i read some of the reviews, i had AC in my room, but i really didnt need it as you just open the door and the ocean breeze is a nice way to fall asleep to. and the sea otters and sea lions do sing at night but its a pleasant sound along with the ocean. i slept very well. woke up refreshed.
i am planning to come back again. it was so delightful and i was really relaxed leaving here.

My husband and I were married here and we could not ask for a more perfect location. Carly assisted us with the details and she was very supportive and patient at every step. I know her job involves a lot of stress but she manages to have a smile on every time! She's so good at what she does that she even "persuaded" the ring bearer and flower girl to walk down the aisle by themselves during the ceremony!
I am also pleased with everything else about this hotel. The staff does an extraordinary job maintaining the place and they always strive to keep their guests comfortable and happy.
Thank you Carly and the rest of the Monterey Plaza Hotel team for making a "perfect wedding" possible.

4/5 stars...ish..
I put 4/5 stars because I strongly believe that this is the best joint in the area. You will not find better if you want to want to enjoy cannery row Monterey without having to drive. I rented 5 rooms and three suites, and here is my conclusion.
We found the rooms to be slightly prone to noise pollution. Toilets flushing, ambient street noise, babies crying, etc. We also found the bed to a tad uncomfortable. Sleeping there was good, not excellent. I blame all the noise on the building. I'm not sure how they could make it better. I suggest asking for a quiet room. Frankly, if the car alarm at 3am did not wake us up, this would have been a 5 star review.
The room was beautiful, and clean. All the facilities were excellent, and clean. You are free to enjoy coffee and drinks while sitting over the waters edge.
The food was cruise ship food. Some of my party loved, it.. I have slightly different taste. Snack, at the resort, but find a great dinner out and about. Having a decent bar, and food available right near the room is great, the view out the bar was amazing. Our group met there many times, and having the two restaurants near by was very very handy. There is a Peets coffee in the resort.
The staff was 6 stars.. We used the car, and many of the services all were excellent and flawless..
If we got great sleep, this would have been one of the best places we have stayed.
I can't say enough about this place ! My husband and I were married here back in June 2005. The wedding was perfect and everyone couldn't stop saying it was the most beautiful spot for a wedding. We go as often as we possibly can .. and yes, the rooms are pricey.. but the experience is well worth it ! We love the Vista Spa too.. and the hot tubs on the roof are amazing ! love love love this place !
I just DJ'ed a wedding here YESTERDAY!
First time there, passed by always but never ventured inside.
IT'S SO NICE!
The valet staff are superb. As an ex-valet myself @ Lexus of Fremont, I definitely know the hustle and wow, these guys were so professional and so helpful. They totally helped me get my gear down to the Monterey Room below where I performed. I'm so impressed.
We left a door open in the banquet room and it was SO nice to have a beautiful wedding and fine cuisine to the jazz beats of Coltrane with the sound of waves crashing with a fine blue sky.
The ceremony site is right above the water too. So cool.
The staff are all fantastic. The servers and especially the coordinators and managers.
I'm so thrilled to work there yesterday, can't wait for the next party!
OH MAN, the food is super good. For brides & grooms, DO THE TASTE TESTING!!!!
The bathroom is hella nice too, rolled hand towels for all patrons. This is just a totally classy ritzy place guys!
;)
We have stayed here 5 times now and we have enjoyed each visit. Right now, you can get good deals with $50.00 food credit, daily. Staff is always very accommodating and friendly, willing to make sure you are happy. Our room was $169 per night plus tax and the ever present cannery row irritating parking fee of $25.00. But, with $50.00 daily credit, you can have breakfast and a few cocktails in afternoon or lunch and a few cocktails, well you get the picture.....
This was THE REVIEW I was looking forward to writing as I was sure it was going to be five-star but after spending last weekend at the Monterey Plaza, I'm conflicted. I only give 3 (A-OK) because of the impeccable service by every single staff person we had contact with, otherwise, it would be 2 stars because I have experienced better and can't quite say "I'm a fan."
From the Valet guys - friendly, quick, and attentive, to the Front Desk peeps- knowledgeable, friendly, efficient, with no check-in or check-out hassles, to the Duck Grill Bar ($2 off happy hour) & Schooners waitstaff - fun, and they remember your name, I give 5 stars. The facility is undeniably gorgeous! Totally smoke-free and well-maintained, with drop-dead views of the ocean. Walking distance to Cannery Row, the Wharf, and MB Aquarium, etc. What's not to love? There's a Peet's Coffee (robes optional) right on site with complimentary coffee every morning and we enjoyed ours sitting out on the patio area overlooking the water. A perfect way to start the day, then on to an excellent breakfast at the Duck Grill. FABULOUS!
Our room, albeit very large and exceptionally clean, was a disappointment. OK, so I didn't spring the big bucks for a balcony overlooking the ocean, we did pay $$$ for what we got. We had "a king bed with a garden view." The so-called "garden view" was an over grown trellis of vines that overlooked the pedestrian/bike path behind building 3. Imagine the noise from people walking, skating, skateboarding, talking, and pedalling their rented surrey bikes, not to mention the assortment of homeless pushing their shopping carts down the trail at all hours of the night. The windows (no screens) only opened about 3 inches and there was no AC so it was warm and mostly uncomfortable sleeping at night. The ceiling fan over the bed helped a little but only if you stripped down to your birthday suit and had someone mist water over you now and then, but definitely no substitute for AC .
Our bed, however, was VERY comfy and had a feather-top and lots and lots of fluffy pillows; when I did sleep, I slept well. But we had some mighty noisy neighbors and I could hear them talking, showering and slamming doors while coming and going all night. There was a convention of contractors in the hotel so maybe that's why it was so noisy?
Speaking of the bathroom, the water pressure in the shower was the worst I've ever experienced. It took a full 5 minutes to rinse the shampoo out of my hair! On the positive side: the hot water never ran out and the marble sink and vanity were beautiful, with top-notch toiletries, and plush terry velour robes. The only thing I couldn't understand was why no fan in the bathroom? There was a telephone by the toilet (?) but no bathroom fan, I don't get that.
Maybe I'm being too much of a hard ass (I have spent the equivalent of two mortgage payments for a weekend at the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur so cost is not an issue for a memorable time) but would I stay here again? Having gotten a tour of the Clement Monterey, I'm not so sure. Now I feel like climbing under a rock for giving such a poor review . . .

This is a beautiful hotel right on the water and very close to the main attractions. Peer out the backside of the hotel lobby and you can see the kelp forests and make out a sea otter or harbor seal if you look closely! It takes 10 minutes to walk to the Monterey Aquarium, less than that to the touristy stuff on Cannery Row. The Adventures by the Sea kayak outfitter is right across the street and I think you can set in right by the hotel.
We had an inland view room but it was on a building corner so we could hear the waves crashing on the shore...ahhh. If you don't like the sound of seagulls, bring earplugs.
Our room was tastefully decorated and big for our family of 4 -- lots of seating and the bathroom was separated by a wall from where we slept. I melted in the cushy bed! We had 3 large windows to let the sun and cool air in during the day and blackout curtains helped my young kids sleep in until 7am! :) My only minor complaint is that the outlet covers were old-school. For some reason my iPhone charger kept falling out of one and the outlet in the bathroom didn't work...
Other than that, we did have A/C in our room, wifi, a ceiling fan, a small fridge for leftovers and a mini-bar. A small microwave might've helped us a bit but maybe that doesn't belong in an upscale hotel? The bellhop and valet service were friendly and very helpful. I didn't get to do a spa treatment, but the views from the jacuzzi on the top floor were divine! Definitely have yourself a glass of wine with your loved one up there.
Bottom line: if you want to splurge on a weekend getaway in Monterey, this is where you want to stay!
My wife and I were here for a conference. Lots of things were wrong. B/C of construction at the main entrance we had to come in from a side door where the valets were chatting and ignoring service. We expected our car to go to a secure garage but they parked it across the street in a lot. The check in was OK. In our room we found a gift basket for someone else. When I tried schedule a massage they were all booked up (not enough business to keep a full staff).
Seeing the ocean was OK, but we were too far from the downtown area for a nice stroll around or to be close to the better Monterey restaurants and shopping..

My wife and I just returned from a miserable stay at the Monterey Plaza Hotel. Here's the email I just sent to management:
I wanted to give you feedback about our weekend stay at your hotel. In a word: disappointing. We made our reservations through http://hotels.com and got what we're lead to believe was a good rate at $399 per night. We were put in a bay view room, #1223, right above the plaza. Our first night was marred by overly loud and raucous guests next door. It took until the next morning for security to finally get them out there. You can't predict the behavior of guests, so I understand how these unfortunate things can happen.
We hoped to lounge around on our bay view balcony Saturday afternoon, but the potential peace and quiet of beautiful Monterey was ruined by not one, but two outdoor weddings. The first one we could hear everything, including the exchange of vows. Then the reception started right below us. That meant obnoxious little kids running around making noise along with boisterous adults yakking away as if they were standing next to us.
If that wasn't enough, no sooner had that wedding group gone inside for their wedding banquet, a SECOND wedding got underway. Same drill. We couldn't take it anymore and had to leave for the rest of the evening. We ended up having a great barbecue dinner at Henry's up the street on Lighthouse Ave. That came after Friday night's under whelming , overpriced and overly pretentious meal at the Duck Club Grill at the hotel. The food was average at best. The bill was not. Nothing like a phony baloney waiter who comes to your table during the meal asking: "How's everything, delicious?" Ugghhhh !
Then we move to Saturday night. The hallways were a non stop collection of noise and commotion. It was kids, adults, drunks, etc. At one point my wife stuffed a towel underneath the door (you know, the way you would if there was a fire and wanted to keep the smoke out?) and even that didn't work. That was from about 10:30pm until 12:30am. Finally, some sleep. Until the couple next door's sexual escapades woke us up. You know, other fine hotels have figured out how to engineer things like beds and head boards so they don't slam into the wall and wake up the people next door. I expect that kind of disturbance in a Motel 6, which why I don't stay in them. In a "Woodside" property at $399 a night? Gimme a break!
On a positive note, the valet staff rocks. Those guys hustled and got the job done promptly, courteously and with TOTAL AUTHENTICITY. It's too bad the accomodations were such a drag. We will be going somewhere else on the next trip to Monterey,

We had a wonderful stay here. The hotel is set right over the water and our room had a balcony with a great view. Service was friendly and rooms were clean and very comfortable- loved the down-topped beds.
We walked along the coast to Lovers Point...we wish we had brought our bikes, as the coastal trail runs for miles along spectacular coastline....and came back to the amazing roof top hot tubs with views of the whole bay...perfect afternoon. We didn't use the spa, but it was first-class looking and we will plan more time on the next trip.
Other highlights were the nice Peets coffee shop on the plaza in the morning, and drinks on the patio at their Schooners bar/bistro before dinner.
Had a recent stay on a Friday with Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa.
Have to say- LOVED it!
Location is perfect... and the spa- woo-hoo! I loved that spa. Didn't get any treatments, however- there is a gym w/ all the equipment pointed toward the giant windows w/ a view of the ocean, the sauna was HOT, the showers were clean, the staff was friendly. But the jacuzzi on the roof- they hit the nail on the head w/ that one! Two separate fairly large jacuzzis on the rooftop overlooking the ocean. There's also a fireplace out there and you can have food/wine brought up from the restaurant so you can relax in front of the fireplace. Divine.
The room we had was fairly large and the bathroom was really big.
Only qualms:
1- the floor we were on smelled like chemicals (I think they had just washed that carpets in the hall and it had that weird wet rug/steam cleaner soap smell)
2- the sink stopper was stuck so we had a very slow drain
Wish I'd stayed there a few more nights... and so did my guest from out of town. Overall- a great stay and I'd definitely stay there again.
This review is strictly based on the Monterey Plaza Hotel as a wedding venue!
This is an update on my previous review. Had my wedding reception at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa last weekend and it was fantastic! The service there was totally amazing. The servers went out of their way to accommodate guests and since my husband and I didn't get to eat at the reception, Angel brought our meal and a piece of cake up to our room for us. After the reception we found a table set with our food still warm. It was an amazing touch. They also provided us with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.
The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is the hiccups in the planning. Also, in the height of wedding season there are multiple weddings/receptions at the hotel and I ran in to 3 other brides and some guests inadvertently wandered in to the wrong reception. It didn't bother me all that much but I can see how some brides might not want multiple weddings at their venue.
Previous Review:
I haven't had my wedding here yet but will in one month so my review may change. However, so far dealing with the hotel has been a nightmare. Not only do they make you pay for your tasting and give you a measly 5% hotel discount for your guests, they are unresponsive, sloppy, and unprofessional. The wedding coordinator that we had been working with is now gone - which is a mixed blessing because she was horrible. But now I have yet to touch base with the new coordinator and our wedding is one month away with a myriad of unresolved issues.
It might be a nice venue but I would think twice before booking this place. I am hoping that the new coordinator is semi-competent and that there are no more issues.
Had two really nice stays here... they are consistently good.
The location is ideal, right on the water, close enough to the whole touristy area, but not too close. The hotel is pretty modern... the walls are soundproofed, there's actually water coming out of the shower when you turn it on... they've got all the basics covered.
I can make the usual hotel gripes... the valet parking is too expensive... but then again, what hotel doesn't have expensive valet parking these days??
The hubby and I decided to get away for the weekend and ended up here. This is a great hotel to just relax and watch the ocean! We arrived around 1pm and our room was ready! The front desk has 2 day tickets to the aquarium for the price of 1. The hotel is a nice walk down Cannery to the aquarium. There are a couple of nice shops and tasting rooms along the way :-)
Service here is excellent. Everyone was really friendly and helpful in giving us directions to where ever we needed to go. We did not eat at the hotel restaurants but had a couple of drinks at the bar and ordered room service. Room service prices are reasonable and the food is good. I love having breakfast in bed!

The decor in the rooms, the comfort level and location are 5 stars. The vallet and the Spa service is only $25, and the gym isn't too bad. Some free weights and enough other equip to get a decent on-the-road workout.
The only reason I won't give a 5th star, was the online booking and confusion with my room rate. We had 3 in the party, and one person was charged $215 less per night for the same room the other 2 of us were in. I asked the front, and they just told me that that is the way the internet is. I finally got the OK from the manager, but it seemed like I could have been ripped off if I hadn't been so set on trying to understand their rationale.
That all said, I have been here for group meetings and now for another visit, and I think this is the only place to stay in the cannery row area.

Probably the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at!
The staff was very attentive and each person my boyfriend & I came into contact with greeted us in a friendly manner. The hotel is very clean and has a beautiful ocean view.. One I was VERY pleased to have from the window of our room.
I'm only giving this place 4 stars because I would have liked to NOT hear the couple next door to us having sex and would have liked to avoid the EXTRA deposit money they withdrew from my bank account without my permission. It was a HUGE hassle getting the staff on the phone to help and figure out why this happened...
Other than that, I would definitely recommend and stay here again.
Recently stayed at the Monterey Plaza with the family as my brother had a conference and were watching the little one at night. Everyone from the Valet to the server at The Duck Club was so nice and accommodating. Special thanks to the front desk who was able to find a room with two beds as the parentals and I were in one room. Am a bit old to share a bed with them!
The hotel itself is rather elegant. Our room was real big with ample floor space to spread a blanket for the little one to crawl on. Beds were nice and soft and could have slept all day. Bathroom was nice and large. The vanity outside the bathroom is just what is needed for those applying makeup or to finish getting ready. I liked that you could actually open the windows in your room to let the fresh air in.
The spa was relaxing and treatments were top noch! I am not a fan of facials just because extractions hurt and leave me red... The esthetician was great and didn't hurt one bit. I was left with glowing, radiant and clean skin that still looks great after almost two weeks!
Really enjoyed and will keep coming back again!
Our stay at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa in Monterey was a pure joy!
I am tough on service, having been in the business since 1976. The service at the hotel is truly admirable. Everyone was well trained and tempered, from the front desk clerk, to the bell people, to the concierge...EVERYONE!
The rooms are spacious and luxurious. This place is for pampering. The views and location are superb. The restaurant in the hotel was very good; the Sardine Factory, outside the hotel, was absolutely wonderful.
Try it, you will be most likely very pleased. We can't wait to visit the Monterey Plaza again.

The entire place was HOT.Sauna like hot.The room was ok,but not worth the price.I've stayed at suites in Monterey that were far superior for alot less. The view was great and the free M&M's were nice, though.
I have to admit that upon approach I was a bit taken aback, they are undergoing maintenance and we couldn't pull into valet. We had to jostle around in traffic with the hordes of tourists streaming around our car before being taken care of...but that's where my complaints end. The service at this hotel is exceedingly friendly, almost to the point of being confusing. I am used to surly types in the city.
We stayed one night here over the weekend to attend a friend's wedding. From the moment we entered the hotel we had great service. We arrived a little before check in, they found us an available room, we needed a cab, they set it up. Our valet to the room was so thorough in explaining everything I was almost worn out by the time he left. He got a nice tip, tho!
Then, we had the drama of the century, BF forgot the pants to his suit and it was 4:50 pm, wedding started at 6 pm! The concierge, lovely lady (should have gotten her name!) was so helpful she cancelled our cab, and prepared maps to the local mall and from the mall to the venue. We ran up, she handed them off with a smile! We made it to the wedding at 5:55 pm. No joke!
The next morning the lovely BF had scheduled me a facial which I enjoyed while he used the spa facilties. Again, sooo lovely. The spa had an amazing view, you could look out over the ocean while riding the bike or soaking in the hot tub. My facialist was a dream and everyone was again, nice, pleasant and helpful.
I thought this hotel was really nice. The price wasn't too cheap, at $250/night, but the service made up for it. The bedding was soft and the turn down service nice as well. I would highly recommend this hotel, but beware the swarming tourists below.
Came here for a wedding last weekend and the set up was really pretty! They also had the hotel do the cocktail party w/ food and drinks. The reception was also at the hotel.
Crab cakes were yummy but my favorite was the prosciutto w/ scallops! There were also oysters galore, but since it was so cold, i opted out. Cheese platter was also a nice touch.
Then came dinner. The duck breast w/ cherry over risotto was pretty tasty. Then came the tomato portobello soup. I liked that a lot. Then a salad and that was just ok. The filet mignon was really tender, but not juicy enough. It was also a bit bland. I had to put extra pepper in it.
Overall, pretty good wedding venue.
The staff was also really nice and we kept asking for drinks and they didn't mind getting it for us.
Minus one star b/c I did not get a chance to check out the spa.

This is a wonderful place for a get away. It's comfortable, beautiful and worth the trip. We arrived late on a Friday night to the temporary entrance. Woke up late the next morning, had breakfast and made our way to the spa. Enjoyed the view from the rooftop spa, got my first massage, which was very nice.
I will say that this place is expensive, but it's what I would expect from a place like this.
If I were looking to splurge on a weekend getaway again, this would definitely be on the list.
We stayed at this hotel this past week and love the hotel and it's location.
The staff was super friendly and everything about this hotel exuded both
class and style. LOVED IT!!
Nothing I can say that hasn't already been said - this place is great.
The small annoying gotchas:
-no DVD player in the room
-expect to pay $12/movie on-demand TV
-self parking is a pain in the ass, expect to use valet parking (it's well worth it)
Beautiful and luxurious - it's the perfect place for a romantic weekend. An easy walk to the Aquarium.
I read the Yelp reviews criticizing the customer service, but I actually found them really pleasant. Mirna helped us at the front desk and she was awesome (even when the woman in front of me in line was berating her for something completely ridiculous).
It's a bit pricey, but it's worth it if you're dead set on going to Moneterey - that city is just expensive. The rooftop spa is HEAVENLY, and they let us take our wine to the spa. There is a wine opener and wineglasses in the room, that you can use without incurring a bar tab (the bell hop was nice enough to inform us). The spa fee is $25 per room, per night for use of the spa, parking, and wireless internet. It's more annyoing than anything else - but it's a small thing.
The bistro was pretty good for food - better than the other tourist traps on Cannery Row.
