Very good experience here.  Family friendly.  We had a nice view of the park and beach and were able to watch some divers, boats, surfers and sea lions.  Binoculars were available in the room, which we wouldn't have thought to bring.  Close enough to to the Cannery Row attractions to walk, but far enough away that the minor nightlife (cars cruising and the bright lights from the weird souvenir shops, but that all shutdown kind of early) on Cannery Row proper were not a problem.

Staff was extremely helpful and had no problem making some custom accommodations.   The continental breakfast, delivered to the room, was acceptable, but dinner menus at the restaurants in the area looked better.

Only problem was that the floors were apparently pretty thin, and an elephant was staying the room above us.  Never had this problem in a hotel before.

Three things stand out to me.  Apparently free wifi -- had no trouble getting my laptop on it, but my phone couldn't get enough signal strength.  The bathroom was awesome, seemingly recently remodeled.  And the television channels available was a pretty wide range of basic cable, more than the regular local crap channels that you often find in hotels (not that you should be sitting in an hotel room watching TV, but it's a nice amenity).

Wife and I decided to stay at the Monterey Bay Inn for our anniversary. Located on the very south end of Cannery Row it's within a 15 minute walking distance to most of the attractions on Cannery Row including the Aquarium.

It's a small parking area, but it's covered so it's a good thing. They must have recently refurbished the hotel because on the outside and the lobby it's very small. The front desk people are extremely accommodating and friendly. They give you a little bit of information about the area, a map, and a coupon book. I even asked them if they could make reservation for us at a restaurant that I was having a hard time getting through, and they took care of it for us. That's excellent customer service.

We went "cheap" and got the Park View room and have to say this was one of the nicer hotel rooms I've been too. Everything was recently redone and the room has a nice touch of class to it including a crown molding. The room is large with a nice size King Bed that is nice and soft. Both the wife and I got a good night sleep on it. They have recessed dimmer lighting above the bed which is nice. The outside patio while small, was large enough for two outdoor chairs and small table with a live plant. The view here was nice. Had a good view of the park and also could see the nearby beach and ocean. So while not a direct on view of the bay, I would give our view 3.5 stars.

The bathroom here was very nice. It's all nice done in a light walnut and dark granite counters with a natural stone tile. You have double sinks complete with a nice set of towels and robes. The shower, toilet, and sinks are all separate units so you can be in one without blocking the others, very smart planning.

Other extras include a nice size desk, small little fridge and minibar stocked with food items, binoculars, and CD player with relaxing music. We also mentioned that it was our anniversary and when we got back from dinner they had a small bottle of sparkling white wine and chocolates there for us. They also have 2 outdoor hot tubs and a spa. We didn't have time to check these things out.

They also serve a free continental breakfast here that you fill out at night and they bring to your room in the morning. It's your basic juice, coffee, bagels, etc. The food was good, kind of what you would get at a nice small little cafeé. Not mind blowing but good enough to enjoy. I will give them kudos as they do actually serve fresh squeezed OJ here.

The two negatives about Monterey Bay Inn is that they do nickel and dime you. There's a $10 charge for internet use and $13 charge for parking. When you're charging at the rates they are, you really don't need to nickel and dime us.

As to rating, I have to say the service here is top notch, probably one of the better places I've been too. The rooms here are also really nice and the wife and I were happy with our view and the breakfast. The one thing that does bug me is that you are paying a premium, but for that premium you shouldn't have to pay for stupid item such as self-parking and internet. We ended up paying about $360 for a one night stay. The room cost was $260, but we also got 2 tickets to the Monterey Bay Aquarium too so that added some money to it plus taxes and paying for parking. Yes I would stay here again, but if they didn't nickel and dime you on the parking and internet, the Monterey Bay Inn gets dinged a half star and gets a 4.5 rating from me. So for Yelp purposes, 4 star rating.

I booked a room at the Monterey Bay Inn for our 1st anniversary based on other yelp reviews and we were not disappointed.  We absolutely loved our stay at the Monterey Bay Inn.  Our room had a fabulous view and it was wonderful to fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of the ocean.  It sits right at the beginning of Cannery Row right next to San Carlos Beach, which is a really short walk.  We loved the look of the room and I could have lived in the bathroom.  The bed was oh so comfy and we slept sooo well.  And we loved that breakfast was delivered to our room every morning at the time of our choosing.  What a way to start the day!  We will definitely stay here again when coming to Monterey.

Also, if you plan on visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium you can buy tickets at the front desk and bypass the long lines at the aquarium.  Plus the tickets we bought at the hotel were 2-day passes and cost the same as a 1-day pass at the aquarium.  What a deal!

Amazing place to stay for a weekend. We've been there a few times with my husband. It's very romantic and good quality hotel. Especially those rooms that have a balcony overlooking the bay. The bathrooms have been remodeled and look amazing. The service is good and the prices are OK, not over the top.

I would definitely come back here.  The binoculars for viewing sea life were a nice touch, the bed was soft and plushy, the service was friendly, and the hot tub views were surreal.  The shower seemed unusually large, and the Aveda products rounded out the stay.

Just don't get the hardboiled egg for breakfast unless you like eating rubber.

Went last weekend.  Weather was gorgeous!  Stayed 3rd floor.  Corner room.  Panoramic view of the ocean.  Room was very large.  Bed very comfortable.  Parking fees are irritating, but got the same treatment at the Best Western a few blocks off Cannery Row.  But it was $7 4 yrs. ago.  THe pictures below show what you get.  Continental breakfast:  You order the night before with a time range.  It was our anniversary.  Didn't get up as early as we thought we would.  THey knock on the door.  We don't answer. They knock and knock and knock.  Then the phone rings telling us they are outside.  Can't they take a hint?  Go away!  Other than that, couldn't hear a sound at night.  Right below the hot tub, never heard anythig with the sliding doors open all night.  Just the crashing of waves and noisy birds.  Would stay here again.  But for $450 a night, I would choose a lesser room.

Over the past decade I've been commuting to the Monterey/Carmel area for work and play about  1/2 doz. times a year. For the past five, when my projects overlap the weekends, my FAVORITE PLACE to stay remains the Monterey Bay Inn!!!

The rooms here sit on a quiet corner and overlook the ocean, the harbor, and Cannery Row. You can go to sleep listening to the sounds of sea lions, seagulls, crashing waves, on a feather top bed! How cool is that?  The management and front desk staff here is phenomenally professional without being intrusive and the housekeeping staff is first rate. On this current stay they gave us a free upgrade to one of their two brand new Panoramic View Suites, with a fireplace, dual ocean/harbor views, and huge bathroom with a Jacuzzi!

The front door to this place rests on some of the BEST diving, cycling, running, and kayaking locales on the coast! The MB Inn also has a SUPERB Spa, with AWESOME deep tissue sports massages, body wraps, and facials. If you want pristine, quiet, and elegant intimate luxury, The Monterey Bay Inn is THE PLACE to stay!!!

My boyfriend and I checked in at 5 PM on Saturday and although I yelped this place before booking it, I was still STOKED when we got to our room. We got the AAA rate ($160 including taxes and parking) and we could not believe how luxurious room was for that price. The room was pretty large, the bathroom had two sinks (and separate toilet), there was a private balcony and then there was the bed, OH THE BED! Crazy ridiculous stupid comfortable. We split a bottle of wine after dinner at Crystal Fish (yummmm) and headed up to the 4th floor outdoor hot tub overlooking the ocean (btw there is also a 24 hour hot tub on the 2nd floor sans view)... do I even need to tell you how romantic that was? Wow. To top it off, we were served complimentary breakfast in bed the next morning. Could not have asked for more.

Lastly, the Inn is located at the opposite end of Cannery row from the Aquarium, which made it seem a bit more private and less touristy. It was very quiet in the morning (save for some seagulls and barking sea lions) and it was a quick 10-15 minute walk from the Fisherman's Wharf on one side and the Aquarium on the other.

Bonus: CD player alarm clock with John Tesh "Sounds of Monterey"... Hilarious. Bring your own CD's if you want some music. Wait, do people still own CD's?

You'd think for the amount of money they charge for these rooms you could get a room with air conditioning.  When I first walked into the room the temperature inside was over 90 degrees.  There was a thermostat on the wall with a knob that said warmer or cooler.  But the maid who could barely speak English explained it was a control for heat and that was all.  She did bring by a fan but the room was pretty much an oven until way past sunset.

I was awakened several times during the night by the sound of a very loud slamming door.  If being able to sleep at night is important to you, be sure to request a room on an upper floor and away from the stairs.

The room and bathroom were spotlessly cleaned every day and were quite nice.  The morning breakfast while nothing to write home about was decent for what it was.  Overall it's a decent hotel but way overpriced, don't assume that just because you are paying a lot of money you are getting something 5-star. The place is totally taking advantage of its location right on Cannery row.

Just got back from staying here with my boyfriend for 2 nights.  The hotel was a little difficult to find because it is situated at the very start of Cannery Row, so if you are unfamiliar with the area, you have to pay extra close attention to the street names or else you will get lost.  I definitely was glad that I had chosen this hotel as compared to the others.  The harbor view was great (I was moved to another room when our door malfunctioned and got to see the ocean view, I thought the harbor view was better).   The bed was soft, the bathrooms were clean and looked very nice.

The continental breakfast that was delivered to my door each morning at my desired time was great.  I did not eat anything that they gave me because my bagel and muffin were both ice cold.. the coffee was decent though.  It was just nice to roll out of bed and start off drinking coffee and orange juice to get my blood flowing.

The location was a little farther from the Aquarium than I had thought, but it's nice because you do not hear the hussle and bussle of Cannery Row.  The private lot was great since you could move in and out as you please and the staff was extremely friendly and accomodating.  The walk to the shops, restaurants, and Aquarium on Cannery is not far at all.  It's nice to be able to take that walk too with the nice weather that Monterey has.

I'm only minusing 1star because I had to be moved from one room to another due to a malfunction of our door which was nobody's fault.  However, I was put into the ocean view room on the 4th floor (411) RIGHT next to the Jacuzzi.  Needless to say, I could hear any and all foot steps and talking all day and all night.  Also, with the adjoining doors to the room next to you, I could hear EVERYTHING that was happening in the room next door (which really was not pleasant if you know what I mean).  The first room that I had did not have the adjoining door (which I had requested) and was not next to the jacuzzi so it was much quieter.  I would highly suggest requesting to not have this room.

Other than that, everything was great and I would totally come back again the next time I visit.

I regularly go to Monterey for vacation and have stayed at many of the hotels there. This was my first stay at the Monterey Bay Inn and I stayed there for 4 nights/5 days. I booked the Deluxe King Size Bed room with an ocean view and a fireplace. Since my feelings are very mixed about this hotel I have decided to do a pros/cons list to make reading the review easy.

Pros:

1. Room was recently remodeled. Very large with a nice bathroom and king size bed.

2. Hotel room was very clean.

3. Bed was extremely comfortable to sleep in. The pillows and the mattress were very nice.

4. Great view of the ocean. I could hear the waves and the sea lions everyday. Also, there were sea otters outside my room everyday.

5. Location is awesome. Right on cannery row and a quick 5-10 minute walk to the Aquarium and restaurants.

Cons:

1. Breakfast was absolutely terrible. I ordered everything available just to be able to try it. It was so bad I could not even eat it. Definitely not worth it.

2. The fireplace in my room was broken. The hotel sent maintenance up to our room. He was unable to fix it so they gave me a $25 discount per night and a complimentary bottle of wine. The difference in price between our room and one without a fireplace is $45-$50 so I did not feel this was satisfactory. Also, as a side note, we asked for Merlot wine and were given Syrah.

3. The wireless internet does not work correctly. It continually loses connection and you can't even use the internet because of this. Also, they charge you $10 a day for it!

4. The staff at the hotel was not friendly or helpful.

I do not plan on returning to this hotel and I would not recommend it to anyone. I gave it three stars because the room was so nice and the view was excellent but other then that this hotel was very poor in quality and service. I would rate this hotel room as a $200 room max. The prices they are charging this summer are ridiculously high.

I have nothing but praise for this hotel! My boyfriend and I stayed here August 12th to the 14th for our 6th anniversary, right in the middle of the Concours d'Elegance car show. All the other hotels in the area charged $150 extra the 2nd night (nearly $270+/night the first night and in the high $300s the 2nd night) due to the car show. However, I found an online special for the Monterey Bay Inn and paid less than $260/night! The room had a gigantic bed, huge balcony overlooking the bay, and complimentary breakfast brought to your room. It is within walking distance to everything on Cannery Row and right next to small area with beach access. Check-in and check-out was very easy and we were able to buy our tickets to the Monterey Bay Aquarium from the front desk as well.

I was also very happy that this hotel has self parking instead of mandatory valet. I think because of this, a lot of the car show participants stayed in this hotel because we got to see lots of awesome cars parked right next to our crappy little Jetta. Haven't you ever had the problem of getting to your car because it's stuck between two Lambos?

I would definitely come back to this hotel again in the future!

We went here with my two kids (4.5 years, 6 months) for a quick weekend trip.  I judge a good hotel experience based on these factors:  quiet, cleanliness, helpful staff and some unexpected niceties (products, cool room, or a view).  I have to say this hotel delivered with the exception of some inconsistent staff members.

High points:
- Great view - I think all rooms have a view of the beach and/or ocean.  You can't really get a bad room here.
- Recently remodeled rooms - bathrooms, decor are all updated and clean
- Custom breakfast delivered to your room - includes eggs so not just a pastry with coffee
- older man who checked us in was really nice and covered all the necessary info well

Low points:
- Bed was way too mushy for me but fine for my husband
- Noisy upstairs but not too bad
- $13 per day parking

Location: Awesome
View: Awesome (Harbor and Ocean View + Patio=Double Awesome)
Furnishings and Bathroom: Pretty Damn Good (bed was too soft for my bf)
Breakfast: Continental, thus blah, HOWEVER, as someone who never wakes up in time for hotel breakfast, having the order placed the night before and delivered to your room = Awesome!

As was already eloquently described in other reviews, this place was stylish and comfortable. Cute little blue birds hopped around begging from me while I sat on the balcony admiring the view. From a disabled perspective, the room was very accessible and the elevator didn't suck (bizarre random bell ringing though). The location is great, however Beware of Bird Poo Row (aka the sidewalk directly outside the hotel). There is no deterrent on the roof of the industrial building next door to prevent sea gulls from poo'ing on helpless pedestrians.

When I checked out, this place charged me more than the price I originally booked online! Make sure you check your invoice when you sign. I overlooked it unfortunately, or else I would have fixed it right away. Otherwise the rooms are decent. I think their spa was "meh" also because the services were provided in a room that was small and not very relaxing. It felt like a large walk in closet. Spend your dough at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa to really unwind.

Came here for a mini-getaway and could not be more pleased.  The location is great and the views are even greater.  I booked an ocean view room and it was well worth it.  The views of the ocean were great especially in the morning!  They even provide complimentary continental breakfasts which was pretty nice to have in bed.  The inn is pretty small so I really liked that.  The room I stayed in was very nice, modern (except the tv), and clean.  We bathrooms were nice with a dual granite sink, tub, and separate toilet area.  However, the best feature if probably the view of the bay though.  They provide binoculars so you can take a look around the bay as well.  I even saw some sea otters!  The hot tubs looked a bit dirty but it is in the middle of winter so I'm not sure how much upkeep is going on.  They also give a AAA discount so be sure to ask about that before booking.  For the price/location I'll probably be staying here again on future trips.

Please be aware they'll add a 13 charge for parking to your bill.  I'm not sure if it's per night as I only stayed for one.

Just stayed one night at this place. One of the best rooms + service I have ever received. My gf and I were upgraded to a panoramic view room which means harbor + ocean view, dual balcony and fireplace. The room was very clean and the bathroom was spotless. They use Aveda bath products and have Colgate toothpaste just in case you forget it. The bed and sheets were very comfortable, you just sink right in. There are dimmer switches in the room to help set a romantic mood, and the fireplace tops the lighting off nicely. The jacuzzi on the 4th floor is amazing, you get a beautiful view and the temperature is set just right. I have nothing but praises for this establishment. I'll be staying here again in the future.

Located between the Coast Guard Pier and walking distance to Cannery Row MBI is my choice when in Monterey
The room was comfortable with stylish decor...bathroom is large "stylish" and functional...my wife say it has the most comfortable bed in the world
Water views and sounds make the stay memorable
Roof top jacuzzi and patio are an added amenity                             Continental breakfast delivered to your room was excellent way to start the day
Seagulls are aggressive...shoo them away...do not leave food or clothing on your patio!!!

I had a romantic getaway here back in August.  It was one of the best hotel experiences I ever had.

CHECK-IN: they are very accommodating to early check-ins.  We had the opportunity to check in a little early than the required time to check-in which was a plus.

PARKING: parking is convenient.  They have their own garage for hotel guests and the fee is I believe $12 per night.  But with a parking pass, you could leave and sightsee and come back to park again.  That was really convenient since there are hardly any parking spaces along Cannery Row.

LOCATION: AWESOME!  This hotel is near where Cannery Row starts.  So it's not too busy around the hotel and it's very private.  Beautiful views of the ocean and harbor and walking distance to pretty much all the sights in this area of Monterey.

HOTEL ROOM: the room was a deluxe ocean suite with a fireplace, king bed which was sooooo comfortable, two love seats, a coffee table, tv with dvd, cd player with three cds, a big marble bathroom and MANY MANY amenities.  The room also had the most beautiful view of the ocean where you can sit out in the balcony or leave the doors open to sleep to waves crashing on the shore.  We also heard sea lions.

SERVICE: the only star I'm docking is the maid service.  They barged into our room multiple times while only knocking once.  But the sound of the knock was so non-existent that it didn't give us time to say "come in."  At one time we were on the balcony, some maid came in, placed something in the bathroom, and left.  We were watching her the whole time in shock because we did not even acknowledge her to come in or even hear a knock.  It was like we were deers in headlights.

FRONT-DESK: very nice and accommodating.  Made our reservation easy to handle.

CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST: eh...too many sweets.  They should really throw in some protein!  Hard boiled eggs are not good enough.  I need my meat!  Otherwise a free breakfast every morning was not bad at all.

OVERALL: this is a a great hotel despite some of the barging in of the maids.  We loved our stay and wished it would have been longer.  If you're looking to get a way for a romantic trip this is the place for you.

My husband and I loved our stay here.  It was our second time.  The ocean view room is totally worth every penny.  We even got to see sea otters swimming in the water.  The breakfast wasn't gourmet (very basic stuff) , but it was delivered to your door at the time you requested it.  The hotel staff was very nice.  The bed was amazing: goose down comforter and goose down mattress pad.  It was the best sleep I've ever had at a hotel!!!!! Will definitely be back!

Situated next to Monterey Bay with large balconies, each room is very spacious and enjoyable. They have 2 jacuzzis. One stays open 24/7 and the other till late night. So-so continental breakfast with the paper to read. Pretty good coffee. Bed was nice and soft. Left the door open to hear the waves all night. Slept so well. Over-all, really good 2nd stay here. My wife and I came here last weekend for one last getaway before the baby comes.  We left on a Friday night and checked out the next morning.  Yes, I know it's only 1 night, but we had to watch the Chargers/Patriots game on Sunday.  I have to have my priorities straight!  =)

Anyway, I booked this room online, which was quick and easy.  We got to the hotel around 9pm.  The man at the front desk was pleasant and accommodating to our questions.  When we entered the room, the first thing we noticed was that it was freezing!  I guess they left the window open.  We immediately closed the window and proceeded to turn the heater on.  There is one heating unit, which means the heat was having a tough time reaching the bathroom.  The room itself was very nice.  We got an ocean view room.  I must say this, it is worth the extra few bucks to get an ocean view.  Partly because of the view, but also because of the sound of the waves.  It is so relaxing to hear that throughout the night and into the morning.  As cold as it was, we left our window slightly open, so we could hear the waves.  The room also has an honor bar and dual-vanity bathrooms.  The cleanliness was a 4 out of 5 (one pillow had a stain that I don't know was old or not).

In the morning, a continental breakfast is served in your room at a time you designate.  This includes fresh fruit, a hard-boiled egg, muffin, yogurt, and orange juice (or milk).

Check out was just as good as everything else.  First off, check out is at 12pm, which is about an hour later than some other places.  Second, the people at the front desk were very friendly and helped give us maps of the surrounding areas.

A very good experience overall and I will highly recommend this to anyone.

One of the best hotel experiences I have had so far was at the Monterey Bay Inn. They are still renovating the place but the room I stayed in was modern and beautifully appointed. It was large and the bathroom had a double vanity and sink as well as a separate room for the toilet.  It had the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in and a beautiful view of the bay. They have two jacuzzi's that are open all night and a small spa which I did not get the chance to try. Breakfast was brought to our room and everything was delicious. The employees were all very helpful and my beau and I found the whole experience as relaxing as can be.

The location of the hotel is very good.  10 minutes either way to the aquarium or fisherman's wharf.  The staff is excellent too...friendly and very helpful.  The interiors of the room were very nice (not luxurious) but very comfortable and warm.

The con of the stay was seeing the dilapidated building next to us on the left outside of the balcony.  Also expensive (400 for balcony), so expectations for a getting what we paid for was higher.

Overall I would reco this place

4.5 Overall. My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night during our romantic weekend getaway and loved it! The actual hotel is smaller than we expected, but the size actually made it more personable, I think.  Staff were polite and welcoming. Loved the room!  Clean and super comfy king-sized bed.  I give it a 4.5 because of the parking fee ($13) and because the breakfast was alright.  Trust me, paying extra for the harbor view room is definitely worth it.  A private balcony and view of the ocean was absolutely beautiful to fall asleep to and wake up to.  We'd definitely stay here again.

Service and staff were exemplary, only topped off by the views of the bay.  What a great place for relaxation and romance!

We stayed one night for our anniversary, and it was lovely.  We had a spacious corner room with a balcony, overlooking a park with a beach.  We could see sea lions on the rocks right below our balcony, it was awesome.  The room was much prettier than it looked in the pictures on the hotel's website.  The bed may have been the most comfortable one I've ever slept in - ever!!  The staff was extremely friendly, and we'd definitely stay there again.

We just got back from a 2-day excursion to getaway and relax!  Our stay at Monterey Bay Inn served its purpose.  Not a cheap room, but we had a great experience!  The service at MBI was great!  Deborah and Juliana at the Front Desk as well as housekeeping, were extremely helpful and provided us with great customer service.  We were warmly welcomed and given information about the hotel.  Deborah even offered to make our dinner reservations at the Chart House, conveniently located around the corner from the hotel.  We were in room 411 with the ocean view.  The room has binoculars for their guests to use and we were amused as well as amazed with the otters and the dolphins we saw every time we looked out of our private balcony.   The view was serene and it was on the quiet side of the hotel, although I don't think street noise would be a problem even if you were in a room facing the park or harbor.   We were able to get an 8 pm massage for couples in the Serenity Spa on Friday night.  It was awesome and so relaxing!  Jessalyn and Denise were great!  They almost had to carry us out, that's how good our massages were.  As the staff left for the evening, we hung around in the sauna and then hit the jacuzzi on the second floor (open all night).  There is a second jacuzzi on the fourth floor that closes at 11 pm.  They both accommodate 4 people, max.  A continental breakfast was ordered the night before and delivered to our room the next morning! They served until 10 am.  We had fresh coffee, tea, juice, hard boiled eggs, choice of muffin, bagel or coffee cake, yogurt and fresh fruit delivered (on time!) along with the paper.  The bed was comfy and the sound of the waves during the evening and when we woke up was very relaxing and a big plus for us.  The bathroom was big and had double sinks and looked like it was remodeled.  Nice and modern although the shower curtains were made of some material that kept leaking water out to the floors when we finished with our showers.  The Internet connection was weak, but we didn't come there for work but to relax and rejuvenate. so it wasn't too big of a deal.  The $10 fee was waived by the front desk when we brought it up during checkout.  They do charge $13 a day for parking.  Overall, I would highly recommend the Monterey Bay Inn to friends and family.  The location is awesome.  Within walking distance of Cannery Row,  the Monterey Bay Aquarium and a great little Mexican Taqueria that is open until 11 pm directly across the street.  Don't let the "plain and simple" outside appearance fool you.  This place is a great find and worth the splurge!  We would definitely come back!  I would rate this 4.5 stars (pinged half a star because of parking fee).
