Now called Full Moon, but still the same garbage. The cheapest beer here (by a long shot) is Killian's. It's cheap cause they let the keg sit until it becomes unbearably flat and old that you have to complain. This has happened many many times. When I did once, the bartender acted like this was a frequent occasion. My wife then asked for a replacement beer and they treated her like she was trying to scam them. NICE! But some of the servers here are nice and I only go here for pool.

It's all about the billiards and the weeknights.  And it's at least partially about the mango chutney.

With at least half a dozen full sized pocket tables lined up in the room that announces Full Moon's identity-as-pool-hall, there's a better chance you'll get to play without having to win a table than at any of the various bars around town with single coin-ops.   Instead, Full Moon follows the Main St. restaurant model and keeps a wait list when things get crowded.

Which would clearly benefit someone of my limited prowess (my sweet spot is between 2.5-4 drinks, which is usually one game at most in any given evening), if I could stand to wait there.  On a weeknight, with a basket of fries and mango chutney (a taste delight that might be reserved for the kids who used to dip their happy meal fries in soft serve instead of ketchup), it's almost possible.  But you'll almost never have to wait on a weeknight.

On weekends, it turns into the kind of bar where a wave of excitement rushes through the 75%-male, post-college-but-pre-adult-and-not-in-some-endeari ng-Peter-Pan-way crowd when a Rod Stewart song begins to play. The kind of bar where men convene who get excited about the possibility of seeing billiard-revealing cleavage and women who get excited about being ogled by those kinds of men. Polo shirts and too-teased hair. Lots of shouts that hail people as "Dude," and "Man." And the incessant backdrop of 80s and 90s Billboard hits (some of which I love, too, don't get me wrong. but I grew up thinking love would tear us apart, not hoping to feel like a virgin, if you know what I mean). Against the price of $12/hr, I can let my truly unformidable billiard skills further waste away.

Mon-Thurs, before 8pm the billiards are free.  But it's a rare occasion when I'm drinking enough to play (well) on a Mon-Thurs before 8pm, so Full Moon is the place I stop in occasionally to see how long the wait is, and typically leave without putting my name on the list.  But I should add that it's a great place for larger gatherings.  If your crowd can crowd out the typical customer base, it's your party and you'll scratch if you want to, scratch if you want to, scratch if you want to.

I've been assured by one of my Ann Arbor friends that people DO listen to heavy metal music and actually enjoy their musical experience at Monkey Bar.  Interesting.  Well I will simply say that my personal musical tastes don't quite jive with this genre of music...though Monkey Bar is still a fun place to shoot pool :-)

This place is called "Monkey Bar" now. It's the same old place but with monkey statues hanging around the inside (what's up with that?). Not a good hang out bar, but great for pool. Average bar food and tap.
