I'm actually a huge fan of this place for an LA trip.  I've also stayed at the Roosevelt (cabana suite) and will say the Mondrian's key differentiator and why I go back here more often than other establishments is the superior views since it sits perched atop a hill v. Roosevelt which is right in the middle of Hollywood tourism.  They both provide a unique experience so if you're more into the wild pool bar action, hit up the Roosevelt, but if you want more of a laid back vaca feel with a lovely LA backdrop, you can't beat the Skybar.

The rooms were renovated last year (much needed) and the service is what it is.  The key thing is to bring a good group of friends along and live life to the fullest.  The Mondrian will only add value.

As to accessing Skybar during primetime, the best way in is to reserve a room and chill out there for the night.  I'm not sure the pool scene is worth any sort of wait at night, though it does get very crowded when I did table service in the cabana last year.

Since 2008, I've stayed there on 5 different occasions and will be back yet again in a couple of weeks to party up, relax, sip, and make some sweet memories with good friends.  There is an alternative called SLS, but I'm just so used to the Mondrian now it's like denying myself from *home, sweet home*.

Holla at yo boy if you have any questions.

I stayed here for business and was pleasantly surprised.  The location is great -- it's close to great shopping and restaurants.  One of my favorite things about this place is the Skybar.  It's got a great view of LA and has an indoor and outdoor area.  Asia de Cuba - the restaurant - also has great food.

I agree with the other poster about all the stuff for sale in the room - that was kind of strange.  Also, be forewarned that if you park your car here it will cost you $32/ night.

I didn't try the wireless in my room, but I did in the lobby and it wasn't working.

The decor was nice, the staff was friendly and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in.

I've stayed at Mondrian hotels in the past and come to expect good things. However, after a weekend at their West Hollywood location, I would need considerable persuasion to give them my business again. Friday night on Sunset Blvd is going to be teaming with ego and self-importance. I just didn't think I would contend with that from the hotel attendants. For anyone in the hospitality industry to pass off such sour staff is laughable. I don't know what their occupancy rates are, but at $540 a night for a single, I would think patrons would at least receive service that is friendly and receptive, not the case here. I slid the key in the door to realize that there were more goods to be hawked in my room than square feet. Oh and the condoms and lube between the cashews and biscotti, subtle. Why not add a new-age bamboo Slurpee machine? Overall, I thought the aesthetics were aping to be clever and cutting edge, but came off corporate and pre-fab ala Starbucks. The only thing that impressed me was the view, which is the equivalent of complimenting a restaurant on their water.

The plot thickens, while looking at my bank statement online today I notice I'm a little light. My account history shows that these scientists charged both me and my guest for the room. This would only be a mild annoyance if getting someone on the phone there didn't feel like a massive undertaking. To get a billing matter handled I called seven times before getting someone to actually speak with me! I got the voice mail of four different managers and rude and disinterested staff just to get that. Now I might cut you some slack on a Saturday night, but this was on a Tuesday afternoon. Makes me wonder who is running the Mondrian. I have received better customer service in convenience stores than this wrongfully self-proclaimed luxury resort.

I didn't stay at this hotel but may do it soon.  Went to see clients there to talk business and say hi.  The pics they have on their website?  Don't look like this hotel, it's not easy to find, so call ahead and let them help you out, or use Google Maps and pull the little guy over to the right for a "walking tour" to find the place.

We had breakfast in the restaurant, very nice, the waiter was an expert, knew when to come in, when to wait, and I was impressed. Food wasn't cheap, I think breakfast for 4 was $160.  But the hotel was very nice, clean and a good place should you not to drive too far to get away.

If you want to eat..eat somewhere else, food is what they do to offset the lower prices you can get for the rooms.  I saw some Interesting people there..one could only speculate what industry they are in..hehe.  I was expecting a snooty attitude, but none of that, everyone is king, have some money to blow, check this place out.

My friend and I drove up from San Diego over Labor Day weekend and went to Skybar after watching a band at the HOB. We went in with some guys who knew people, so there was no wait/cover- It was jam packed inside and a little hard to find people. The music was great, but my only complaint is that the dance floor was way too packed. The rooms here are amazing- I love their mirror-tv things. The couch is comfortable as well. I noticed that the shampoo/soap/etc weren't complimentary like most normal hotels, but were priced at like $27 each.

For some odd reason, this Labor Day weekend I spent Saturday night, Sunday night and Monday at the Mondrian. The first night was their standard Skybar party which was packed! The crowd was great all three night and the rooms are fabulous. The drinks and food of course are expensive, but this is standard to any other Morgan's Hotel Group spot. It's exclusive therefore expensive. On Sunday night we attended the White Party, which was also FAB!!! It was interesting to see everyone dressed in the same color and very hard to find people... Then Monday we hung out at the pool all day and met some great people, had great drinks and heard great music. I don't think anyone could ask for anything more. Mondrian = Paradise.

PARTY PARTY PARTY.  With that the doors were slammed all night long...   This place is a perfect place to party all night and all weekend in LA.

Note: The food sucks.  Every restaurant, including room service, was subpar for a place as nice as this.

This is one of my favorite Sunset hotels: great ambiance, fantastic customer service, and the view of LA is breath taking.  And Asia de Cuba is one of my favorite restaurants, but I was at Skybar last night and I paid $17 for a mojito that is ridiculous.  I've never paid that much for a drink in my life, I'm definitely sticking to water next time.

I got assigned to the Mondrian via priceline for $130/night, so got a really nice deal for the weekend.

The room was small, but elegant and nice.  The coolest thing in there was the TV, which was essentially a mirror, and when you turned on the TV, it was part of the mirror.  But it would have been helpful to have had the remotes out so you knew that there was a TV in the room.  The remote was stored in a drawer on the bedside table.

The hotel staff and valet was extremely courteous and helpful.  Not a big deal, but definitely a nice touch when the valet says "welcome back, Mr. Chiu" to me every time I return to the hotel.

Of course, I also went to the Skybar which was nice since hotel guests don't need to wait in the regular line to get in.  I didn't try the restaurant, and was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a gift shop (I guess they did before) since I needed to buy a wedding card, but not that big of a deal I guess.

So on my way out of the hotel, as I was getting my bags out the door, a guy walked up to the room next to mine, and started knocking on the door.  He knocked several times as I walking down the hall to the elevators.  Finally, I hear him call out "Excuse me sir, this is security!" and heard the keylock open.  Not sure what that was all about though.

Oh... and on every floor, when you exit the elevator, in front of you, there is this "screen" that does nothing but show different colors.  I was curious how they kept the screen so clean, and then tried to smudge my fingers on it, before realizing that it wasn't a screen at all.  It was really trippy... My hand just went right through the screen because it was actually a cut-out of the wall, and underneath the hole, there was a small lamp that changed colors... I thought it was a cool illusion though.

I haven't stayed here yet so I will re-review when I do.  The decor inside is really nice, the sushi place, the asia de cuba and the sky bar have such a nice ambience.  Asia de cuba overlooks the city, dim lit but not too dark.  Staff is classy but not snobbish.  Valet in front.  Hard to find.
Great decor.

This i definitely a first-class hotel, though it can be easy to get lost in the shuffle if you don't go about things the right way.

Most importantly, if you need something, don't ask the staff you see in the hallways - - simply not reliable (I'd asked for fresh towels and turn-down so as to have a nice shower after a night of fun - - neither was done so it meant waiting for towels for 20 mins at 2:30 in the morning so that I wouldn't have to have damp towels in the morning when I showered then).

Apart from that, great service... very attentive and friendly.

Be forewarned... you're on top of the Sky bar - - there is no "keep it it down"... but people usually check in here for a reason.

They could probably do more to sound-insulate the suites from each-other or have more personnel be proactive by walking the halls at 3 am to make sure noise is kept to a reasonable level. No one wants to complain about noise so the hotel should make efforts so that no one feels like they should have to.

The rooms are really well appointed and tastefully decorated. My room looked over the pool and so had a great view! I visited some other rooms... loved the one that has the extra long two-person shower with one shower wall being glass and overlooking the bed. Now THAT can provide for an interesting show!

I won't write separate reviews for the restaurants, but I will say that the breakfast was not especially good. I had the waffle with strawberries and a side of bacon. No whipped cream came out with the waffle, which I thought was a little odd... the butter was extra cold, so could not be spread easily on the waffle (mind you we ate at about 10:20 so it's not like we were the first people to have breakfast that morning), and the bacon... well for $6 for four strips, I expected something better than Denny's caliber bacon. Super thin strips that were WAY overcooked.

As far as the pool service during the day... 5 stars for Julie our server! She was really really great to have. I was part of a large birthday crew that was staying at the hotel and we pretty much occupied the entire corner of the pool area. Julie was always quick with the drinks service and did it with a smile. Even when one of our party group took a drink of her tray (TOTAL no-no!) causing it to unbalance and pretty much cover me in red cranberry-champagne cocktails - oh and did I mention get some of the red stuff on Julie's white top, she really handled it professionally and coolly - knowing that she was going to be sporting some red stains for the remainder of her shift (and probably ruining her bikini top in the process).

In any case, managers, if you're reading this - - keep Julie on staff... she's definitely an asset for you guys (definitely not as good as the night time servers - - our table service that night had an OK server. Good, but nothing I would want to point out or write about which is why Julie's service was really that much noticeably better)

So two 30-somethings and their 5 year old daughter walk into the hotel's lobby for a holiday weekend escape. I know, you say the Mondrian is no place for a 5 year old, but then allow me to ask you this: Why is there a swing in the lobby? Giddy models sipping champagne? No, I think not; that is so 90's. Instead we decided to shake things up by . . . wait for it . . . by putting a 5 year old in the swing. I know, we are quite avant-garde. I should have placed a sign in front of her scrawled with "make a wish with innocence" and then placed an empty Lemonade jug next to her for tips. Not for the money of course (OK, maybe for the money,) but more to satiate my curiosity in what the average guest of the Mondrian might have tucked away in their pockets. Hmmmm . . . .

Anyway, the hotel is a beautifully unique interpretation by Phillipe Stark of Wonderland. Big things are small, and small things are big. Hidden around the corners are unexpected surprises. A bit of color here, a unique texture there. Everything adding to a vision.

At night, the vision turns into a scene. The infinity pool, lit candles, the open-air sky bar, Asia de Cuba. This is definitely a romantic place to party, and a unique facet of Los Angeles.

So family in tow, we were led to our room. The room felt a bit small for the price, but luckily the ridiculously tiny bathroom made the room feel somewhat bigger. There was a rain shower, but it was as useless as the bathtub was short and narrow.

That being said, the stay was enjoyable. The beds were comfortable, the views spectacular and the room graced by an over-sized sofa that was spacious, comfortable and covered in pillows.

Over the weekend we watched Elf (a holiday tradition,) and Horton Hears a Who in mirroravision (a TV in embedded within the looking glass,) which was whimsically appropriate considering the movies.

In addition to the excellent restaurants and bars at the hotel, you are walking (Oh, the blasphemy) distance from the Sunset Plaza, Katana, The Comedy Club and the House of Blues. Located at the heart of the Sunset Strip, the Mondrian's location simply can't be beat!

Noise was as to be expected with this hotel. Friday was surprisingly quiet, but on Saturday the party in the penthouse directly above us lasted through the night and well into the next morning. Strangely, it sounded as though they were rearranging all the furniture around 5 AM. Be forewarned: Many a room at the Mondrian, is not booked for rest and relaxation .

While I wish that the rooms had been slightly larger, the bathrooms considerably better and the ceilings and walls more soundproof than they were, we had a good time. I feel very comfortable with a three star rating. There are definitely better hotels in the Area, but few as unique as the Mondrian.

Side Note: I had Ice sent up to the room and received a bucket with mold in the Ice. It took almost twenty minutes to get another bucket sent up. The few calls I made over the weekend to room service left a lot to be desired.

This was a great hotel for the rate we got (Corporate rate of $140 a night).

The room was nice, the hotel staff was friendly and helpful - for example, we needed a pair of cufflinks, and they just gave us a pair to keep.

I partied there and have no real problem with party-noise, but since our room was overlooking the Pool/Skybar area, it was quite loud a few nights, and one night it was really loud as it seemed like someone was having an afterparty at 3am in the room above us. Their heels were loud on the hardwood floors. As I said, I personally didn't care so much, but for those who want quiet, definitely request to NOT be overlooking the pool.

My gf and I really liked this place. Probably because I got it through priceline so I didn't take it up the @$$ by paying full price.

But we checked in on Saturday night, and had this kind of snooty, exclusive feel. It was kinda hard to find, since its an unmarked white building. But only way you can tell is by the line waiting to get valet parking.  Valet parking is expensive at 32 bucks.

After checking in, the bellhop  was very helpful. He brought our bags in, gave us a quick tour of the place. The asian cuban restaurant, the pool and lounge area, and the spa...

We were taken to our room and I was very pleasantly surprised. We got a top floor room with a great view. Massive windows.
What a great way to end a nice vacation with a bang.

The hidden lcd tv in the mirror was a cool touch, and also the Bose IPOD sounddock was nice, but was a piece of crap.

The shower was cool since it had 2 showerheads.
Everything is expensive though, so don't steal anything, or even break the seal on the giant shampoo bottles from the spa, or you'll be in for a rude awakening when you get your credit card bill.

Very comfy beds and linen made for a great nights sleep.
Sleep with the curtains open so you get to wake up cuddling and watching the sunrise. awww, how romantic.

This is a party hotel, so when we rolled in late at like 4 am, there was a really noisy party going on next door, but no need to hate, eventually it died down.

I'd stay here again if I got it through priceline.

Stayed here on Tues-Thurs so party noise wasn't an issue and the hotel wasn't that busy.  Gorgeous room with virtually no signs of prior guest use.
I was on the fourth floor which seemed much higher and had great views over the pool and city.

http://www.yelp.com/bi...

I was not at all into the daytime pool "scene" but at night, it was a beautiful spot to lounge around and look out over Los Angeles.

I found the staff to be very accommodating and not at all pretentious (like I was expecting after reading some Yelp reviews).

Our room service breakfast was AWFUL and hardly edible....especially the "breakfast potatoes".  (Beware, they serve the same dreadful heap of oily starch in Asia De Cuba.)  Toast and meat arrived cold, our drinks were missing and the fruit was oxidized and tasteless.

http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Make sure to visit the ADCB Bar INSIDE the hotel, off to the left when you enter from the street.  The food here is EXCELLENT!  We ordered a tempura roll which was outstanding!  The bartender (Luca) was also very kind and made some great recommendations on the menu.

Skybar....not my kind of thing.  This is all I could think of while there:

Overall, nice hotel that I was happy to stay at, but not worth that kind of money.

Outrageously expensive and you don't get a hell of a lot for your dough.

Smaller and older than you think and our room was really nothing special, although the view was nice (and expensive).

But if you want to spend large in order to possibly rub shoulders with a celebrity, then come here (we stayed here last year when Britney went nuts and shaved her head).  Apparently, Britney stopped by last week again, too, with hair, this time.

The Asia de Cuba restaurant inside the restaurant is top quality.  So, really, you should save your money, stay somewhere else, and come here to eat if you really must rubberneck for celebs.

The Mondrian like all Ian Schrager hotels, is a marvel of design and innovation, combining luxury style, high and low art, this is the apex of modern cool.  Any hotel with a severed hand, 9 foot tall mirror/tv, videos of bamboo swaying in the wind to techno music, TVs playing the Simpson's in a glowing hole in the wall, massive 20 foot doors on sunset, 12 foot couches and ten dollar water MUST be cool.....

Staying at the Mondrian really was a great experience overall.  Ian Schrager always does things with aplomb, from Studio 54 and the Palladium to the Hudson and his new project in Grammercy he will always make an impression and did. The quality is great, the service is fit for a plantation owner, overall pretty amazing....

Problematic...the ongoing construction means that at 7am each day (INCLUDING WEEKENDS) the jackhammers begin...you have to enter through the basement and the working elevators are packed.

Also the popularity means that the annoying big-boobed and overly tanned flock to the pool on most days to see and be seen. even as a guest  you have to fight your way into the pool area.  The bartender had to look up a "vodka gimlet" tossed it at me without nary a smile and no garnish (it's OK I'll get it) and then was angry to only get $1 tip on her $15 dollar drink.... here's a tip, be nice and know your drinks  - THAT'S your job...

oh and Asia de Cuba is nice as an easy late night snack (before 11:00)

We stayed here a few nights when I had business in the area. Amusing place in many respects, what with its all-white decour and dressed staff. The darkened hallways during the day hours were increasingly lighted by evening. The suite we had was spacious, with ceiling to floor views of the pool area as well as Hollywood Hills. Dining at Asia de Cuba (loved the oversized potted plants - think Alice in Wonderland) and Skybar were par for the course in terms of service and quality, but nothing memorable regarding the food. Guests have a free pass into the latter.

Where the fun really begins is with the typical LA/Hollywood scene. Practically everyone is posturing, looking to see who's famous or important, or auditioning for that 'chance of a lifetime' role. The spouse and I frequently chuckled when yet another chirpy or bloke walked past with deliberately sucked in cheeks, shoulders and hips swaying ala runway from one place to the next. There is that slightly longer glance at the signed cheque to see one's name, just in case you're really an actor, producer or director on the lookout for the next waiter-cum-star.

Nonplussed, we took a leisurely dinner one night next to Bruce Paltrow (RIP), a lovely man who initiated dialogue then chatted us up about life and such. Another night we entered the semi-orgy of Skybar, where clubbers danced, drank, lounged on couches and chairs - and posed. Shaquille O'Neal is seen waving from his balcony to onlookers. Paris Hilton strolls in an obvious fashion with her mini-entourage. Leonardo DiCaprio lounging with friends by the pool. And so on.  A clearly bladdered young woman interrupted our conversation and asked if I was Lucy Liu. We ignored her as if she'd never spoken. Moments later there was a splash in the pool. Was that my foot which tripped you up? Oh, well....

All in all, it's decent accommodations but nothing earth-shattering. If you're into shabby chic and vogueing - or even laughing - check in and enjoy.

Tiny Tiny rooms with great memories and excellent service..

The restaurant must have thought we were famous because they moved us from a nice table to the best table in the house overlooking all the lights in Hollywood..

The in-room bar has Jameson in a tiny bottle!

Oddly every time we have stayed here we have only been able to get a tiny room with 2 twin beds we have to push together.

Tiny is the theme here........ as well as excellent service......

FYI You can walk to House of Blues!!

BUSINESS TRAVELERS BEWARE.  This is a party hotel.  So do not be surprised if theres an all night hootenany going on above you all night long.  DO not expect hotel security to take your noise complaints seriously.  And If the fire alarm to go off at 4am.    Dont expect the hotel desk to answer the phone.   Its just some merry maker.  or... yunno...  maybe a FIRE!!!

You can tell the hotel is hip because they play loungy trip hop muzak in the lobby like its 1994.   And C-Z list celebs get the same crappy pool side service for their 17$ margaritas.

The decore is a mish mash of questionable styles - FUNKY!  The most memorable part of my stay was the giant screen TV that looked like it was part of a 99cent store Princess play set.  It was in the center of the room on a swivel.

What's the hype? The place wants to he hip and modern but I'm not sure if they have executed it well - I think any of the W hotel franchises do a much better job at that

I felt like I was in an insane asylum at the hotel - the all white theme some times works but not in this case... I was afraid to touch anything - although white, sheets seemed dirty, their wooden furniture (painted a nasty green) looked old...

** Supposedly, I was staying at the old, not-yet-renovated rooms so maybe if you had the "newer" rooms, you'd have a way better experience

In a sea of questionable service, the Mondrian hotel stands as a bright beacon welcoming you home to port.

A recent stay at the Mondrian left me wanting more from the Morgan's Hotel group.  As a first time vacationer to L.A., the Mondrian and its many amenities made my stay first class.  I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is traveling to California and can afford it.

Their staff are helpful and accommodating to any request at any time.  I had a blue martini spilled all over me at two in the morning.  They sent someone to my room to collect the clothing and had it back to me the next day by five.  EVERYONE I encountered was polite and smiling.

Our white walled two room deluxe suite was complete with mini kitchen and a view of the pool and the Hollywood hills.  While the rooms are somewhat out of date, with small televisions and an older bathroom, you don't go and stay in West Hollywood to hang in your room.

The best part about the Mondrian are the amenities it provides.  You can dine at Asia De Cuba poolside, with a spectacular view of the expanse that is L.A.  During the day, lounge at the pool that has hosted many celebrities.  At night, the pool and outside areas are transformed into SKYBAR, an outside club with lots of fashion and candles.  If you happen to be a guest of the Mondrian, you can blow by the long line and cover charge with your preferred guest card.  Make sure that you use this to your advantage by bringing a large entourage to make you look fabulous.  There is also a sushi restaurant named Seabar.  They have some excellent rolls, and an outstanding sashimi selection.  My date and I enjoyed some of the best salmon sashimi I have ever had at Seabar.  I did not have a chance to use the Aguaspa at the Mondrian, but I can only imagine that it is top notch.

The Mondrian definitely caters to the young and upwardly mobile, and while it offers the best, expect to pay for your services.  The Mondrian will comply by giving you the best service that money can buy, and a fantastic experience at that.

My SF friend Jill wanted a Hollywood-esque place to stay for her first visit to LA.  What's the most pretentious place in LA to stay?  Four Season?  nah.  Ritz- Pasadena? Nah.  Mondrian?  Definitely.  We wanted attitude and tons of it.

I booked an online special for a regular room at 400 a pop.  When I got there, the receptionist (a person that thought they were too good to give good customer service) tried up-selling us.  Of course, we wanted to fit in and not look like cheapos.  We fell for it---we got a suite.  How much?  It cost as much as a month rent for most cities.

A guy takes our shit up to our room.  Nice guy but have you ever seen a bellman hold out his hand for more tip after you given him one?  I mean I gave him 10 bucks to bring 2 small bags to a room.  I gave him another 5...i felt like throwing it at him though.

So hows the room?  Motel 6 sheets have higher thread count than these.  It's a tacky white.  No not Miami-Delano white.  Cheap white.  The room had a nice little kitchen that we definitely didn't use.   Plasma tv?  Nah.  Ipod connector?  Nah.  Overall, this place isn't even worth 99 bucks a night...only b/c of the location and sky bar.

They do give you 4 passes for Sky Bar.  Jill liked that.  It's the quintessential LA scene.  You know..where people go to use the pool to look cool but aren't staying at the hotel.  Or hipsters that wear suits but drives a Kia.  But the Mambo King is definitely a panty dropper.  Beware.

Will I come back?  Not to stay.  Maybe to eat and drink.  You have to be pretty stupid to pay that amount for such a shitty room.

A friend of mine was visiting LA and stayed at the posh Mondrian Hotel. I was also lucky enough to enjoy the services here as well. Tucked right in the middle of the sunset strip we were able to bar hop or stumble back to the hotel. We were never bored or out of options.

We also found ourselves at the sky bar from dusk till dawn. I get a hangover just mentioning the place. Room service available 24/7 which means when we get kicked out of the sky bar at 2am we can go back to the room and order room service. If only more places had 24 hour round the clock sushi. I think I've died and gone to heaven.

The rooms are GIGANTIC! Two tvs, a HUGE bed that can fit at least four people along with a huge bathroom and a bath tub spa. Can't go wrong with that. There's also amazing views of the city. Just don't get stuck with the windows that face the Hollywood hills. The hotel pool is also fun. Just don't rub it in your friends face that you live in LA and can lounge around poolside in the middle of December.

Now where is that cabana boy with my drink?

What a piece of crap hotel.

My travel agent booked me into this hotel because the ones downtown didn't have any vacancies.  I upgraded for free into a deluxe suite, but even their high-end room looked like the horrible efficiency I rented in Hell's Kitchen in the mid-90's (which, incidentally, was nearly condemned and is now reborn as the Hudson, a hotel that's part of the same chain).  Yes, the bar is full of eye candy (so I'll give it two stars rather than one).  But the rooms look as though they just painted over the dirt on the walls.  It's grimey, the decor completely uninspired, there was a hole in one wall, and the wi-fi didn't work.  The popcorn ceiling looked like it was about to cave in.  The gym was a few tredmills in an airless converted hotel room.  For a room that asks over $500 per night, that's just not acceptable.

Also, please turn off the f*cking techno in the elevator at 6:30 in the f*cking morning.

I might be convinced to get a drink here at some point, but I'll never stay here again.

Based on a 5 minute experience here....the story goes as follows.

Pull up to Valet. 10 men are standing there greeting me and helping me with my luggage. The Manager is very nice and compliments me. This is all very charming.

I walk in and try to find my friends in room 214. I go to the second floor. The room numbers end at 212. I call my friend.

"Hey there is no room 214"

"What? where are you?"

"In front of the elevator"

"Im walking towards the elevator..I dont see you"

"Meet me in the lobby"

one minute later.........

"Im in the lobby, where are you?"

"Im in the lobby! Wait a minute, wtf. Im at the wrong hotel!?"

Im sure you can guess where this is leading....

So I go out to the manager. Hand him my ticket back,  (do an awkward giggle and an oopsie) and tell him that I thought this was the Standard. Boy o Boy did he change his welcoming attitude. He still made me pay 10 bucks for the vallet service, even though I was in and out of there.  He was very rude...And clearly didnt find my disposition charming at all. He even said "I said welcome to Mondrian when you pulled up"......Hello, I've been driving in traffic for an hour, I finally hear a human voice, heavily accented.....I wasnt really paying attention.

I understand that you're running a business, and that when I say Im not staying at your hotel, it really isnt  the best thing to hear. Any descent person would find the humor in that and let me be on my way without causing me anymore shame. Clearly I had enough humiliation.

I'm a huge fan of Ian Schrager hotels! The design is amazing, and the man himself is pure chaos and brilliance!

I love the Mondrian most of all, because it is not quite entirely white. The space is very beautiful, and very calm, and doesn't have the "dyed to match" feel of a room that is literally all white.

For the record I should say that I usually stay at the W in Westwood just for the W service. Mondrian people know that they have a terrific hotel, so they don't try quite as hard. but... their design is still best!

Posh? Classy? These words should be associated with a Ritz Carlton, or a Four seasons...  not the Mondrian.  Trendy and People watching seem better fit for this place.

My friends and I stayed here this past weekend, and while our friends suite was pretty cool, spacious, and had a nice view of the pool... its anything but upscale.  It more like a modernized travelodge.  The double I stayed in was small, firm beds, and minimalist (aka... boring).

The elevators suck.  Slow, small, and even failed once on a friend in our group.  On one occasion, I walked in, saw a pretty hot blond, and then fucking realized i'm in a fucking death trap as the girl goes, "it wasn't me!"... apparently some fucker dropped a bomb in here... Fuck elevator... HURRY UP!

While the mondrian is cool, its not worth the premium you pay.  Fortunately we got a great deal from travelzoo.  Staff was pretty friendly.

Skybar is a plus... lots of silicon =D

The Mondrian is like a bad first date. Your first impression is that she's so glam, beautiful, and trendy that you're willing to plunk down $500 and get whisked away in decadence (which is the outrageous price they charge for a room here). She's got some nice assets and will entertain you for at least a couple nights. But then you look a little deeper and see that beneath the IMAGE of perfection, she's actually kind of self-centered, way too focused on the scene, and just an attention craving C-list celebrity has-been.

I only have firsthand knowledge of the deluxe studio suite. Everything in it was white. But it wasn't luxurious, the bathroom looked old, there were stains on the carpet. Granted, everything was white so maybe that's why the decor showed its age so much, but still. There was nothing special about it to make it worth $500/night. The sheets weren't even that soft.

As for the hotel itself, the lobby area and restaurant (Asia de Cuba) looked high class and trendy. The food at AdC is good, but overpriced. The famed Skybar was a nice spot, but the pool was tiny. It seemed more like a decorative touch rather than a usable pool. The placement of low, terrycloth-covered lounge chairs on the deck surrounding the tiny pool made it absolutely terrifying to enjoy the pool since there would literally be people surrounding and watching you 10 feet away. And by people I mean out-of-shape flabby meatheads wearing expensive sunglasses who THINK they're all that. Seriously, no one hanging out by the pool was really all that hot, but they seemed to think that they were. It's fun to people watch here for awhile, until you get annoyed by the people you are watching.

Aside from the other patrons, it's fun to lounge on the deck by the pool IF you can get a spot. The space is so small that it fills up literally by noon each day. If you manage to grab a spot, rely on your own initiative to clear the previous person's empty drink glasses away and lay out a dry towel over the chair that will inevitably be wet with pool water. You'd think that for a place charging so much to stay there, and where drinks cost $15 each, you'd get more snappy service. The staff is nice when they do come by, but they're definitely not the most attentive. The attitude seems like, "You should be lucky that we're letting you hang out here."

Don't get me wrong, the hotel is nice. It's just not nice enough to warrant the price. The lobby, restaurant, and Skybar setting seem quintessentially Hollywood. It's definitely something to see. Three stars for the fact that it's a decent, comfortable hotel with all the makings to relax and lounge in a trendy setting if that's what you're looking for. But it's really not as cool as it makes itself seem.

I really loved this place!!  Beautiful room with a beautiful view.  The hotel itself was hard for Dave and I to find since it was covered up with tarps during the current renovations going on.  I loved watching the sexy people all over the place.  The studio suite we stayed in had everything you could possibly need::

--cell phone charger
--fridge loaded with small liquor bottles
--juice, snacks, coffee
--condoms, oils
--tshirts, lotions soaps.

alll.. for a price of course and a DAMN STEEP ONE!!!
From the $11 bottles of water to $27 bottle of crappy lotion..I started to wonder if I would be charged for the AC or any accidental sneezes.

On a serious note--we did love it there and were treated like royalty..which is nice.  Howeever--I HAD to drop the rating  to 4 stars because the $27 small bottle of lotion was less glamorous than Jergen's.

Two stars - one for the good restaurant, the second because the room was clean.

Never again - I'll go stay at the Four Seasons where they actually give you a comfy bed and treat you like a human being for the same price. If you are a hipster douche bag, though, you will totally love this place.

I am TORN by rating this place. As a hotel, it's actually pretty cool and fun, if you can get over the Ian Schrager "beautifulpeople" vibe which, to me, seems very 1997. The rooms are decently-sized and NICE at least for the prices I have paid on various occasions. asia de Cuba is still good food, and even the Skybar is fun WHEN viewed as the lounge that just happens to be in your hotel.
That said, the Skybar as a destination is laughably played. European tourists in white leather dresses started showing up here six years ago. Get a grip, it's over.

We got a great deal on this hotel using Priceline and apparently paid a lot less than the usual price. They only offer valet parking which seemed expensive at $32 per night. The room was small, but was uniquely modern. I loved that the TV was hidden within the mirror. We were on the 12th floor with a great view. It was a bit noisy but that was expected from some of the other reviews. We didn't eat at the hotel so I'm not sure about the food. I would have to say that I wouldn't want to pay too much more for a room than we did.

I'm what you'd call a snob when it comes to hotels.  So I couldn't believe my luck when my fella and I won a costume contest and the prize was a free night at the Mondrian.

If this review were based solely on the staff and service, then I definitely would have given it 5 stars.  When I called to make our reservations, the wonderful manager upgraded us to a corner suite.  It was a comfy room with great light and fun extras like a LIFE magazine from 1959 on the coffee table in the living room.  When the drain didn't work in the shower (ew) they upgraded us to a top floor super suite which was bigger than my apartment.  The lit candles and orchids everywhere were a beautiful touch.

BUT the hotel itself is more shabby chic than anything else.  You can have this look in your own home with a trip to Ikea and a couple hundred dollars.  The low lighting must be to hide the grime.  There was leftover room service food in our hallway for more than six hours.  And despite what everyone says, the pool area is completely FOS.  Tiny pool, tiny deck, and mildewy mattresses everywhere that people lounge on whether they just swam or just put on their $1000 suit.  SkyBar is just a small poolside bar that you can find at any cheap motel in Miami.  But if you're into people watching and eavesdropping, then this is definitely the place to see and be seen.

These are a few of my favorite things...@ the Mondrian:

*  Tiffany Turquoise colored furniture
*  Comfy white couches
*  2 TVs in the suite
*  Asia de Cuba & Sky Bar right downstairs
*  Candles lit every evening throughout the room (makes me wanna have a boy toy in LA!)
*  Hot men with white suits helping with bags
*  3am room service with butterfish, lobster sushi and bay of pigs dessert

Only stay here if you want to be on Sunset. Other than that, I'd probably stay elsewhere. The pool is very nice, you get free entrance to Skybar, and youre in a good area. However, the rooms are dingy. At first glance, they seem nice, but its all old furniture with white covers on them, the bathroom is tiny and out of the 70s, and the AC didnt even work when I was there during the summer (they delivered a mobile AC since it wasnt working.) I dont regret staying here because I do like the Mondrian and other Morgans hotels I have visited, but I will probably try the Roosevelt or somewher else next time since the Mondrian is too expensive for what youre getting.

The Mondrian, Ian Shrager, what more can I say.  The hotel was beautiful, the simple lines, the soft linens and of course the rooftop party. What more could you ask for.  The room overlooked downtown, the city lights... one could fall in love with LA, just looking out in the distance and seeing the city sparkle.

The room was reasonably sized for a suite, although it could have been a little bigger, more "playground" space, but great set up, the bed was comfy the desk perfect height/length proportionate with the length of the room, and the closet had full length mirror doors, perfect for a great view. The bathroom should have been bigger, I expected a bigger bathtub, but that's because I love bubble baths, definitely not a place where i'll be doing that...

Pluses:
great HOTEL
comfy beds
amazing view

Minuses:
lack of room service
knocking on the door in the AM with receipt, ummmmm I'm sleeping..       just slide the envelope
where were you?

Not one trip to LA is complete for me without stopping over at the ole' Skybar.  I never fail to have a good time here.  Which is probably why I almost always end up here at some point if I'm near the Strip.  Spectacular views and generally a very good crowd.  One of the few bars in LA that has had a decent amount of staying power over the years.  Others will come and go, but Skybar is always a good time and generally filled with plenty of eye-candy.

I've never stayed in the hotel (well, ok, I might have ENDED UP staying in people's rooms a few times. But I can't say that I was that interested in the amenities the rooms had to offer on those visits, I'm afraid). ;p
