The food was excellent, the outside ambiance was great and the service was spectacular!  (Matt - the usual server - is a hoot)!

Yes, Mom's is located in back of a strip mall and by default it's unpretentious, but it's also a yummy little escape from an otherwise mundane fast food experience.

If you like great Thai  - Mom Can Cook!

I will say I think I have been here before many moons ago........ My sons and I decided to try this place.  Now for starters for me the name of the restaurant seemed kind of odd to me.  But I know people give their kids strange names and they turn out OK, so it could be the same with this place.  We show up and they ask where we would like to sit.... I said out side. They seemed a little shocked that we wanted to sit out there. I think it was because it was on the warm side. It was an amazing evening with the full moon coming up... So I insisted we sit out side. I think 3 or 4 different people came to our table through out the course of our dinner. Every one was extremely nice and made sure we had every thing we needed. I know Ray was impressed by the service and I was as well. My younger son Jordan, well he could care less he is only 6.  Just bring him more sweets and he is happy.

Now I have not eaten at many Thai places so I don't have much to compare it too...... But I loved the food.  Some things I was not sure how they should taste but I like them any way.... The fried banana at the end really got my kids.... I have to say I enjoyed it too.

Over all, we will be going back there to eat again. I know Ray is excited to go back.... :)
I will say if you have not tried it and the name is kind of throwing you off, don't let it......... Go and try it out... The service alone is worth it.

I am new to Thai food and am still learning what it is all about.  I have had this on my list to try for some time.  I had a hankering for something different and we ended up here.

They are located in one of the most depressing strip malls in this valley.  This is the one with the post office in it, along with a liquor store, a massage place, a bar, a bartending school and a place that wires dinero to Mexico and points beyond.

Yet, at the very end of this place is Mom Can Cook.  Even from the outside, you can tell it is an oasis in this sea of blight.  It is warm and inviting.  My wife was skeptical, but as soon as she saw it she commented that it looked like a nice place.

The inside is equally neat.  The decor is very Thai and other reviewers that commented about feeling transported to Thailand are right on the money.

Thanks to William S, I actually had an idea of what to order.  We got spring rolls, shrimp pad thai and green curry.  I needed one more dish and asked for a recommendation.  The gal taking our order eyed me in my whiteness and recommended the orange chicken.  I told her I was here for some authentic Thai food and this seemed to be some Americanized concoction.  Her smile told me I was right, and she recommended the mint shrimp or cashew chicken, we opted for the cashew chicken.

The food was great.  So many tastes and flavors, it was great.  We ordered everything mild because the kids were eating it too.  Even at mild, the spice is noticeable.  As others stated, spicy here means very spicy so play it safe.

We finished the meal with the mango dessert recommended by William S.  Everyone (but me) put their noses up looking at the fruit with rice, milk and sesame seeds.  But, everyone was won over after tasting it.  Truly, it was an awesome dessert.

All of this, along with a Thai beer ran us $50 plus tip.  Not bad and had enough food left over for lunch for me.  Matt was out, hope to meet him next time.

Dude.. Very disappointing.. Just moved out here and I was hoping to find good thai food.  Blahh this isn't thai food, not even close.

Ordered PadSew and two other dishes that I can't even remember cause it sucked so bad.  Anyways I end up trashing the food, the dogs loved it tho.

I think the dogs would of gave them 5 stars.  YAYYYY!
Sorry, I would love to give you more stars but I really don't think this real thai.

I've lived in this area for about 5 years and have been looking but never finding any decent food.  I had seen the reviews for this place but had never visited because its stuck waaay back in a pretty ghetto strip mall.  So much for location because the food was pretty good.  I got the green curry, seafood brown fried rice (mom can cook specialty i think) and another dish and was pleasantly surprised because the food was pretty good.  Don't let the location deceive  you like it deceived me, the food and service were both pretty good.  I gave it 5 stars because its pretty much the best you're going to get in this area.  If it was in LA, I would probably give it 4 stars but heck, i'm not in LA, i'm in Canyon Country.

I just tried this place for the first time and I was so enchanted. It is the sweetest little treasure. Just get past the fact that it situated in a parking lot along side a pawn shop and liquor store and allow yourself to be transported to a magical Thai paradise.

The food is phenomenal... uniquely flavorful, many choices, and tailored to your spice level preference (mild, medium or hot offered on a scale from 1-10)

The service is impeccable. Everyone is very friendly and attentive. There is definitely a special energy / vibe to this place.

I even appreciate the decor. It is quaint yet authentic, the entire interior is lined in teak - including the ceiling. It is quite cosy and truly feels like you've stepped through a warp to Southeast Asia.

*I'd give 4.5 if Yelp allowed it.

As a bonnie wee lass, I remember going out to eat Thai food with my parents. The love affair began at a fairly young age, so imagine my surprise when I moved away from the main happenings of LA, to the armpit of Los Angeles County, also known as Canyon Country.
(Ok, it's not THAT bad. It wears deoderant on occasion.)

Thai food seemed to be obsolete around this abysmal hole, which in turn caused a rampage of school girl debauchery. I'm talking staying up until 2 in the morning, watching Reba, and saving John th Baptist from Godzilla. But then, by some miracle (and by miracle I mean searching the internet), I found Mom Can Cook. Let me tell you, Mom is no liar. This Mom person is an excellent chef and a saint. Her thai food saved me from from a life of sure torment.

Fast forward 4 years...

Believe it or not, Mom can still cook! Only, mom seems to be a man who greets me every time I come in and eat. I don't know his name, I only know him as Mom. He's very nice to me and all of the customers. The restaurant is a hole in the wall next to a recycling center in a run down strip mall. Don't let it fool you. The food is fantastic, as are the Thai iced tea and coffee. Most of the time I just come in to get a large cup of this sickiningly delicious form of liquid diabetes. I truly think I'm an addict.

I only wish this restaurant was in a better location. It gets decent business, but I know they'd do so much better elsewhere. The people who work here are so kind, and they really deserve all the business they can get. After all, they saved my life.

*The above details may or may not be based on a true story. Anything describing Mom Can Cook is true. No Godzillas were hurt in the making of this review.*

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It's super cute and very authentic. The service is always great and Matt (our normal server) is very sweet. We usually start with a hot pot of Mom's Traditional Soup, MMMMM!! I have tried the pad thai and a variety of curries - very good panang. Beware of the spice - stick to medium if you are not sure! The prices are great - around $6.95 for dinner plates and hot pots, and lunch specials around $5.95. Take-out is just as good, but the restaurant is never too busy for us to get a table right away. Enjoy!!

Matt.

That's the name of the owner, and lead waiter. My man, Matt, never forgets a name or face. I'm sure there's been a single incident in the history of name or face-forgetting, but I think it's nary a time. (Sorry, i set that up so I can write the word "nary." I love it, and it makes me sound smart.)  Anyway, Matt is really cool. And if you happen to be dining with a lady friend, and the last time you came was with another "lady friend," he somehow knows not to bring that up; as if he's trying to cover for you. (Not really necessary on his part, but funny nonetheless!)

So, let's get this out of the way. The service here is top-notch. Matt, and his wife, are friendly and amiable. They like to talk about anything and everything. Matt always seems to remember something that was going on in your life the last time you were there, even though you may have moved on from it and totally forgot about the occurrence.

The problem is, I'm not sure if the service is what brings people back. I mean if the food wasn't sooooo delicious, I could see the service being the draw. However, a vegetarian friendly-menu and great curry is enough to pamper you with a tummy-manicure. Your dining experience here is going to make you feel good once you walk out!

When I go, I usually get the mint leaf shrimp, the green curry (the red curry sometimes), the panang, spicy seafood fried rice, and the pad woon sen.

This was also the first place I ever had the mango sticky rice desert. It's a halved mango, split in two, draped with coconut milk and sesame seeds, next to a clump of sweet, coconut rice. Utterly delicious. I think if the rest of the menu wasn't so good, I could come here just for mango sticky rice alone!

For appetizers, the angel wings and the vegetarian spring rolls (with the sweet, oniony dipping sauce) are sublime.

Also, the Tom Yum Goong is heavenly. I'm not a fan of soup, but Thai soup always wins me over. I've had the Tom Yum at other places, and it's always hit-or-miss. I know I can always go there and rely on the same foods I order tasting the same way.

That is good news for me...and you.

One last thing. I took my dad here once, and he's a big fan of spicy. He often muses that whenever he goes out and orders spicy food, it isn't as spicy as he had hoped. This goes for other Thai food joints. This one is the real deal, ladies and gentlemen. I thought I could hang, because I'm a big "when in Rome"-kinda guy. But I'm pretty sure I sweated out the whole meal as a result. Waaay too spicy for me, but that's if you ask for it.

From now on, I'm not asking for anything other than what I order straight up. The service (top notch) and the food (notched even higher) are what keeps me coming back.

I go to this place at least twice a month.  Matt and his staff make you feel like family.  They make the food just the way I like it.  I think it's the best Thai restaurant in all of Santa Clarita and there must be at least 10-15 of them here.   I think I've tried at least 8 of them so far.  I've been to Thailand 3 times and I must say, this is the most authentic of all of them.  The decor, the service, the prices, the staff, but most of all the food make this place my top favorite in all of Santa Clarita and everyone I bring here falls in love with it as much as I have!!

I decided to trek over to the other side of town check out the buzz about "Mom".  Whoa, this place is in the cut!  I honestly considered turning around, because the run down strip mall they're in looked like an apocalyptic commercial ghost town.

Once inside it's a whole different story.  Everyone was really welcoming and nice.  Just as much as the owner pridefully shares the story about "Mom" and her cooking, they also take the time to get to know you as the customer.  The owner and I had a quick debate about whether or not I can take spicy food, and he concluded our conversation by labeling me a "spicy lady".   I took that as a compliment as I sashayed out of the restaurant.

Well, as woman who occasionally eats Potato Chips with Sriracha, I thought I was prepared for the spicy fried rice and green curry chicken that I ordered.  Wrong.  I wasn't prepared, and while I took delight in the tasty flavor of the green curry with eggplant, peas, carrots, bamboo shoots, chicken and Thai basil, my mouth was on fire!!  My poor husband is even less tolerant of heat, but we both endured it because the dishes were so tasty.

Mom burned us, and in their defense they tried to warn me.  Is it possible that my taste buds have been numbed by 2 years of living in Santa Clarita?  I'll be back for more taste bud heat conditioning.

Thanks Jeff and Caroline for your review,  after reading their review I decided to give this place a try..since their review are always right on the money.

I usually go to Thai town in hollywood, I've kinda avoiding thai restaurants in SCV ever since I moved here last year. But Mom Can Cook is almost right up there with my favorite restaurants in thai town.  Owners are friendly, food was good. I went there last night with my mom and we had the green curry with beef, garlic and peper chicken, and mom's special noodle with ground chicken. Our bill only came up to $21.00 I'm definitely coming back!

Came back for the second time 2 weeks later and a bit dissapointed. Food was not as great as our last visit. Maybe the cook had a bad day? But staff were still friendly. I have to say that the second visit was a 2 stars.

While "Mom" was in the kitchen, "Dad" told us that "food is to be eaten, not photographed" as we snapped pics of our entrees. He didn't stop us from taking pictures, but he didn't seem too comfortable about it.

Everything we ordered tasted quite good. Ratings: The garlic-pepper chicken rates No. 1; spicy fried rice, No. 2; the eggplant with tofu, No. 3. The Thai iced tea was nicely icy.

For the Santa Clarita Valley, it's above average food, but not the 4 to 5 stars we were expecting from all the praise by other Yelpers. Three stars, maybe even three and a half stars if the girl who served us smiles next time.

The bill: $24.90.

From the outside this place looks kinda run down as its in a worn but quaint shopping center.  As I stepped inside I was pleasantly surprised to see a clean and homey little restaurant with with wood paneling and instrumental easy listening playing in the background.

As I sat down the friendly waitress greeted me and my guest and was very accommodating and answered all of the questions we had.  The menu selection though not huge was pretty thorough in offering a wide selection of Thai dishes.  I was happy to see that they offered fish cakes as its one of my favorite Thai appetizers but is not offered at many places, especially in Santa Clarita.  As my main course I ordered the red curry lunch special with white rice.  I had forgotten to ask the waitress to make my dishes "Thai spicy" in fear of getting some mild Thai food, which should be a sin, but when my food came out I was relieved that the curry was fairly spicy.  It wasn't spicy to my usual licking but that fact that it had that little tang in addition to the good flavor I was pretty satisfied.

The food here is pretty good for Santa Clarita and above average compared to all the other Thai places I've tried and would give it a 3.5 stars.  Friendly service and smiles from Mom and Dad, speedy service and cleanliness bumps it up to 4.  I definitely would like to return here with my parents and try a family style meal.

I found this place quite by accident about a year ago. As a rule, if you're looking for good Thai food then you're better off leaving the Santa Clarita Valley, but Mom Can Cook is the singular exception.

The food is phenomenal (I love their green curry), the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting.  Matt, the owner, never forgets a name or a face and he's genuinely happy to sit down and chat with you for a bit to talk about your meal or just to shoot the breeze for a bit.

I've seen a great many mom and pop restaurants come and go in this town but I really do hope that Mom Can Cook will be around for many years to come.

Just writing this review and thinking about the place is making me hungry.  I may have to pop in tomorrow to get my fix. :)

Great food, fair prices, family owned and operated. The owner always has a small chat with us and makes us feel at home. The waitress (I think daughter) is very nice and courteous. Food comes out within 5 minutes. I recommend the drunken noodles.

Funny story: I asked why they are closed on Wednesdays, and the father replied "mom needs to rest" har har har

I wanted to be first to review! Boooooo~~! Anywho...this place was quaint little joint. Can you tell by the name of the restaurant that it's a "mom and pop" joint? Food was good. Place was clean. Service was excellent. They close at 9pm. A bit early huh? This place is just as good as Tuk Tuk Thai on Soledad Canyon...soon to become Thai BBQ. So sad. :*(

This place is great! The owner Matt is super friendly, I told him my name once and he never forgot it, knows me and my sister as the spicy girls because the first time we were there we requested our food spicy(our little mistake) considering Mom really knows how to make her food spicy.  When I go there now, I have to remind Matt that I want medium or mild spice, I think he gets the idea now.  Besides that Matt is great, the food is delicious and priced very reasonably, I mean $6 for a meal!!  I went there with a friend last week, we both got a beer, thai iced tea, appetizer, and 2 meals for around $30!  are you kidding me?  Bottomline it is easy to find a place with decent thai food, however not so easy to find a place where the owner knows you and genuinely appreciates that you are eating at his cozy little restaurant.

I agree with everyone that Mom Can Cook is one of the best Thai restaurants in Santa Clarita.  The service is spectacular and the food is great.  I mean, I'm very picky when it comes to curry but their yellow curry with tofu is amazing.  I'm also a big fan of their spicy fried rice and the basil mint tofu.  I'm a hardcore vegetarian so I  LOVE the fact that they can basically make every dish vegetarian.  They're very vegetarian friendly.

And yes, the prices are low.  Their lunch special is only $5.95 for 2 wontons, salad, rice and entree.  It's more than enough to fill you up. But honestly, I love going to Mom Can Cook because they offer the best service.  Everybody is friendly and accomodating no matter what.  I highly recommend that you give this great restaurant a try.

Great atmosphere, low low prices.

If you eat in the Thai Town area of Hollywood very often, Mom will not live up to your taste expectations, but if you are looking for the best Thai restaurant in Santa Clarita, Mom wins hands down.

Don't bother with Kati Thai or all the other super-boring strip-mall Thai dives in town.  Okay, so Mom Can Cook is in a strip mall too, but at least this strip mall is quaint, with a cute Canyon Country kind of character.

Inside the restaurant, there is beautiful wooden paneling and great service from Dad.  The only thing that may drive you nuts is Dad's choice of music:  a constant barrage of Musak songs that were already easy listening before they were converted to instrumental.  You may find yourself singing to your menu, "Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near?"   Your menu may answer back: It's the great prices!  $5.95 for a full service, delicious meal?  I spend more than that at Carl's Jr!

Mom and Dad rule.  Try their Thai.

I have been here twice and the latter experience is enough for me to not going back.  The first time, we went with a group of friends for my bd and everything was served up very good, taste wise.  So I decided to go back. I guess you shouldn't go there if it is 20 mins before their closing time. The meals I had were bad, way too salty and without taste. We could only taste the salt. I had mix them with water to ease out the salt. I think I am willing to try again based on the first experience. However, this place lacks consistency and they probably put more effort on larger group,  than smaller ones.

Maybe I hit them on an off day, but I don't understand what all the great raves are all about. To start off- the soup and salad they serve with their lunch special is a joke-  I've never seen sides so small. The food was not warm and came after my friends had finished  their plates.  Other than that- it tasted fine. Also, their beer mugs had an odd scent- like fish (I'm guessing they stored the cups in the same freezer as fish?) and the green tea had odd bits and pieces of things floating in it.  I don't think I'd go back unless a friend wanted to take me along. Meh.

This is probably the most aptly named eatery i have ever visited, other than Dan Spit on Your Burger and Use the Bathroom at Starbucks Instead. Mom doesn't only cook, she sizzles. The atmosphere and the subtle lighting make you feel like you are dining in a homey cottage and not a commissary. And the food is hands down the best Thai I have ever eaten. The Tom Yum is a well flavored broth, the Thai sausages make me drool and they have Thai chilies which are not for the faint of heart. They also have fresh seafood and this incredible clay pot dish, which i tried for the first time tonight, with glass noodles. Mom always comes out to make sure my food is spicy enough and Dad cracks jokes. It's like home, but with better food and less yelling.
I would come here even if I didn't live in canyon country, cos I crave the soup when I am sick and if I ever wanted a curry I would opt for this over the soupy, flavorless stuff you get at most places. The best part is the food tastes homemade, cos Mom makes it with love, and the herbs and flavors make it a more natural and lighter Thai experience. EAT AT MOMS.

"Best Thai Dining in SCV"

Okay this is my first review for Yelp.
With all the places I can choose from in Santa Clarita, I have to say this is one of my favorite spots.  It is located in the Soledad Plaza Shopping Center just past Sierra Hwy on Soledad Canyon.  I dont know the guys name but he is the owner and he always ( I kid you not ) remembers everything you say from the last time you order!  The food is great, I enjoy it.  My wife usually gets very tired when I have my "asian" cravings for asian foods.  She will most of the time shoot me down if I mention going to an asian restaurant. With Mom Can Cook, she  doesnt turn me down :)  Yeah!!! we found a place that she enjoys her Garlic Chicken, a place where I can enjoy my spicy take on any dish, and my girls can feast on any sweet and sour dish that comes up.  Funny thing is the last time we were there, not a single dish went back to the kitchen with any food. All the dishes were completely wiped clean!  I would have to say this is my Favorite Thai Food place in Santa Clarita.  The prices are very resonable, portions are good, and the taste really ROCKS.

Mom really can cook, and the dad is nice too. Place has a cool hut sort of look and the food is delish, try the chicken noodles. i wonder how people can write a whole book report on some places, mine are always short as this one is. when its good its good and when you're there your family. what more is there to say.

A true "Mom and Pop" type of place tucked into the back corner of an unassuming strip mall with awesome food and friendly service.  The portions weren't quite as big as I was expecting but they were adequate none the less.   I would definitely recommend this place to anyone living in or even just visiting the Santa Clarita area.

This is the best kept secret in Santa Clarita !
Excellent $5. lunch specials during the week
which includes soup and salad.
and every entree is DELICIOUS  !
Big plus for me is that you can order brown rice
instead of white steamed rice for an extra 0.50.
I ask for extra spicy on every dish so I can feel the burn.
Fantastic servers who are friendly and attentive.
I live close by so if I want a sit down lunch - this is it ! !
Very cute, tikihut style decor in a casual atmosphere.

I stumbled across this place as I was taking my recycling in.  It's in between the recycling center and a pawn shop, so, not somewhere you would expect to find a great Thai restaurant.  The restaurant's exterior was inviting, so, I thought I would give it a shot anyway.  When I walked onto the patio, I forget about the pawn shop next door.  The interior isn't tacky like most Thai restaurants.  It is subtle and quaint.  My sister and I shared an Isan Beef salad, chicken satay, and chicken panang.  Everything was delicious.  My sister, who is very picky, actually had two servings of the beef salad and even enjoyed the panang, although she's not a big fan of curry dishes.  For dessert, the waiter/owner brought us out a traditional sweet rice and mango dish.  I was a little skeptical, but tried it anyway.  It was amazing.   So, needless to say, I will be going there again and recommending it to all who likes Thai food.
