6 reviews for Molly's in Soulard
Went here after they took over the restaurant next door. Loved it! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. They have a great wine selection as well. The service was OK.
The only downside was when we got there there was a wait and the bar area in the restaurant only seats 4-5. They were full, so we felt like we were in the way while the servers were trying to get food, drinks and put in orders.
At the end of the night though it was a good experience. I would definitely go back.
What a cool looking place, love what they've done with the patio.
The inside was equally as impressive, very NO style.
Brunch was great, very inventive breakfast menu besides the normal bacon and eggs. I look forward to trying out the dinner menu as well.
My memory is a little foggy but I'd wager to say Molly's is a better than average bar. The patio out back is spacious and there were fireplaces scattered about to add a little warmth to a cold October night. The bartender out back was friendly and fast, prices were pretty reasonable.
Oh and a note to another gentleman who reviewed this establishment: You tipped a server less than 10%? LESS THAN TEN FUCKING PERCENT!? Are you fucking kidding me? The server isn't the one cooking your food, or pricing the menu, dude. On top of that, he or she has to tip out the bar, the busboy and anyone else helping them out. I hope you feel good about fucking over someone who spends their whole shift on their feet and putting up with other people's bullshit.
We initially wanted to eat at Norton's but it seems they were combined with Mollys - which is terrible.
The service was awful, the food was overpriced, the menu was extremely limited and the lack of specials was presented to us as a benefit.
One of the few times I've ever tipped lower than 10% and if we weren't already so hungry we would have left to find someplace else to eat.
You can't beat excellent martinis, great party atmosphere, and decent DJs (hip-hop, club, ambient)... Especially in Soulard where the music du FOREVER is a jam band. Jam bands tend to all sound alike, and dancing (at least in my case) is no longer an option because I hate getting served by flower girls. (I do!)
I do like Molly's which tries to bring a little class to the classless in Soulard. There's intimate seating, especially in the form of these outdoor beds where groups can sit in and *ahem* hold a conversation while a server brings over drinks.
The patio itself is nice, angular and surprisingly spacious. There's even an upstairs for private parties, complete with a bar.
Molly's has recently changed its atmosphere from a "beer joint" to a more upscale place, focusing more on complex mixed drinks and less on the brew, which is great if that's what you're into. (I, on the other hand, would prefer a more dive-bar feel.) Molly's feature two bars, specialty drinks, and top 40 hits played at a volume I don't understand. I stopped by this place during Mardi Gras and had one of their hurricanes which was delicious! Sorry folks, this place doesn't serve food, so you'll have to take care of your hunger at any of the other Soulard haunts.
