Halfway through Black Friday, our bellies demanded attention, and Molly's was one of the first restaurants in sight. The atmosphere was a traditional Irish restaurant setting that appears to be set up for fine late night Irish fun with additional outside decks and seating. I was impressed with the extra large Christmas tree on the front patio (although it was not yet decorated). The staff was attentive and friendly, and the food was very good. The Reuben sandwich was very good and the best of it's kind with large slabs of fresh corned beef and lots of delicious sauce. The French fries also were as good as the come...nice and crunchy on the outside with soft potato inside....I ate every last one! I also had the garden salad which was a better than just a garden salad and the dressing (ranch) was fresh and appealing.

So we had a mini family reunion this past July at Lebowski Fest (we went as the Seattle Seven for any interested parties) and were spending our last hours of "quality" family time together before the awkward goodbyes.
My brother and his wife had brought their black pug along on the trip so we were trying to find an eating establishment where we could eat outside with the dog.
We found Molly Malone's. (There seems to be a place called Molly Malone's in every city I've lived/visited.)
We were seated outside and I guess this way en early lunch of sorts. I, being the vegetarian of the group, ordered the vegetable egg rolls appetizer as my entree. As I recall, they were decent but I don't know who orders egg rolls at an Irish pub/restaurant. Oh wait, I guess I do.
Anyway.
My husband had the steak and swiss sandwich with fries. He said it was "very good." Everyone else had salads or sandwiches and as far as I know, enjoyed theirs as well.
Our waittress was very nice and attentive (and a fellow redhead like myself and several other members of my family).
I think my mom ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and I recall wanting to order the Irish pretzels but for whatever reason, did not.
All in all, a decent lunch and catered to our canine-friendly needs. -

I am basing this review strictly on cocktails only, so it is pretty limited. We were in for a mid afternoon drink on a very hot August day while visiting Louisville. Nice ambiance, and a lot of seating. It was actually a pretty large bar. Good service, very friendly. This California girl is forever grateful for Molly Malone's for introducing me to a drink that is made with sweet tea vodka, and lemonade. I am sure this drink has been around forever, but sweet tea is not exactly an everyday beverage in Cali. These were so tasty, and went down so easily!

Everyone I know in Louisville kept telling me to go to this place. I stopped in on a quiet afternoon for some food, a couple pints and some time to enjoy the paper. The little booths in the windows are cute and I would have opted for the lovely patio area had there not been snow flurries outside.
It was an ordinary quiet afternoon with few patrons. A few couples and two college girls sitting at the bar, etc. Until a couple came in with their child. This couple seemed to be locals who now lived out of state, but were previously regulars. Overhearing their conversation they said they came straight from the airport and that their child who was fussing and crying most of the time had been up since "4 am, and was very tired". One has to wonder why anyone would bring a child, especially a tired crying child, into a bar. At one point the husband carried the child outside saying, "the last thing I'd want to hear in a bar is a crying child" - very considerate, I thought - until the wife replied "who cares, we're the only ones in here". As if I or the other patrons were completely invisible. Very rude.
Because this couple let their child wander around the restaurant others seemed comfortable to talk and chat with them and interact with the little girl. One of the college girls came over to make conversation and the wife began to get very agitated that this young woman was speaking to her husband. Eventually she yelled at the young woman to, "Just stop! Go away!" It was very awkward from my perspective as the young girl was simply doing what one does in a pub in the late afternoon - enjoying a beer buzz and having a chat. What was inappropriate in my eyes was a crying child in a bar. But it didn't stop there... more people came to join their party bringing more crying children. The crying children were multiplying like gremlins. Applebees seemed a much better fit for this inconsiderate group of people.
Why is this Molly Malone's problem? Well in short the staff seemed to cater to this large group as they all appeared to be friends. They weren't very friendly to anyone else in the bar and the two girls who were yelled at seemed uncomfortable and left, making the atmosphere even more unbalanced. I personally was waiting for a movie and had about another hour to kill, but the vibe in this place was so twilight zone I left as well.
Upon leaving I asked the server if there were always kids here and he replied, "Yes. Until it's late and it turns into a club". Loud clubs full of drunken twenty somethings aren't my thing, so if this place is like a La Petite in the daytime I won't be returning. It's unfortunate too because my friend green tomatoes were delicious. Oh well.
I say when it's appropriate to bring babies to a bar, it's appropriate to drink beer in day care facilities. Who's with me? -

5 stars: traditional Irish music, large portions, green leafy greens rather than iceberg lettuce
4 stars: savoriness of complimentary soda bread
3 stars: savoriness of Blackened Chicken Salad
2 stars: they do not have many choices for a healthy, balanced meal. -

Yay!
(+) Blackened Chicken Salad involved some of the tastiest chicken I've ever had, true story.
(+) Mint julep was made properly.
(+) Constant refilling of water + soda pop.
(+) Attentive wait staff.
(+) Massive outdoor seating area, with umbrellas if ya need shade.
(+) You can bring your pup inside.
(+) There was a manager walking about yelling organization points to the staff... With an Irish accent. Sweet.
(+) Extra nice waiter fellow, Boris.
Maaaaan...
(-) Mint julep wasn't very strong. Unless it was the sun melting the ice.
(-) Bread + Butter Pudding didn't stand up to the high standards I have for bread pudding, though if put in front of me, I'd happily eat it again.
I love pubs. And this was a good one. -

Last time I was on this stretch of road ... I pretty much hit up every bar except this one. Since tonight wasn't frat boy night, there was actually outdoor seating which my coworkers and I hung out at for a few rounds of drinks.
We were checked on often ... the drinks were delivered pretty fast and we sat outside and enjoyed what little breeze passed our way. It's a quiet night so not a whole lot of people watching ... but was a good way to unwind after a long week. -

An above-average Irish pub that earns the fourth star for its abundant outdoor seating. Food and drink always tastes better in a beer garden.
My bangers and mash were delicious and bountiful. I felt like such a glutton for eating the entire serving; it was easily big enough to have made for lunch the next day. -

Went there the day before my birthday on the recommendation of a "subordinate" of my boyfriend. I had a fairly decent Guinness and a yummy corned beef and cabbage dinner. I forget what my boyfriend had. The Man U - Man City match was on, so we caught a bit of that.
Decent place but you can do better in the 'ville. -

We got to Louisville on the Friday evening preceding the Kentucky Derby, ate dinner, and immediately drove to Bardstown Road (a trendy road dominated by an eclectic mix of unique restaurants, bars, and shops) to take part in pre-Derby festivities.
Our first (and only) stop of the night was at Molly Malone's, a 5,000 or so square foot bar with indoor and outdoor areas. We were shocked that the bar was charging a $10 cover but we paid it, the crowd told us Molly Malone's was the place to be. The night was warm but stormy and humid so we ventured to the patio area, which was covered enough to keep out the rain but open enough to feel a cool breeze.
It took us fifteen minutes to get our first round of expensive drinks. Vodka Cranberrys ran $5.75, Bud Light bottles a whopping $4.50...add tip onto that and we spent a little more than $25 on four small drinks. We were disappointed at the cost but shrugged it off as, a little later on; drunken bar goers were buying our group rounds (which is why we ended up staying at Molly's until a little after 2AM).
I was told that Molly's cover is usually between $2-3, and beers usually run $3.50, the bar had hiked up the cost on everything in celebration of Derby. Fun place to go for sure, though I'd like to try it again on a night that it isn't THE place to be in Louisville. -

Went there and ate outside. It was pretty good, but I had fish and chips and they were pretty soggy.
The atmosphere seems great and a lot of people around me seemed like they come often. -

When the Irish side of me gets thirsty this is where I go.The Guinness is fresh and they know what a Black & Tan or Black Velvet is. Molly's reminds me of what I'd expect a modern Dublin pub to look and feel like.
In the Highland's, this is where we usually find ourselves here after eating someplace else for dessert, coffee and a couple pints. I especially enjoy the Bread and Butter pudding.
We have gone there for dinner as well. When I miss Mother and home, I have the corn beef and cabbage. I love the Scotch Eggs and can feel my arteries harden as I eat them. The fish and chips can be hit and miss. I've seen the fish done to perfection, fried too brown or soggy. The beef-and-potato shepherd's pie could use a little salt but I find that many restaurants under season anyway and it's easier to add salt than to take away.
There are plenty of TVs around the bar and it's a great place to watch sports.
There is parking in the rear but it can be tight. I would say that wheelchair access is through the back door as the street entrance has stairs. -

Molly Malone's is a great Irish Pub to get some fish and chips and drink a pint or two or three....things are getting blurry....That seemed to happen quite a bit when I used to go to Molly's. The place can get packed with gobs of southern females. They also tend to attract the Hoosier ladies as well. Trivia night, irish bagpipers. They have all that too. Definately one of my favorite bars in the Highlands. Always a good time.

I can only speak of my experience during two (soon to be three) Derby weekends. Yes, I am a nonlocal who crowds into your city during the busiest week of the year, seersucker in tow, but I have express my happiness for finding this bar. It was an absolute blast both years. The second year after making the horrible mistake of checking out Forth St (or whatever that was called) we knew just the place to return in order to salvage our night. The place is plenty big so you dont feel crushed in as you do most bars on a "normal" chicago weekend night. The place has a great vibe with great music and some genuine dime pieces.

Money well spent. We went here one weekend in December after 4th Street failed to impress (guessing due to the weather). The $5 cover was the best money I've ever spent on a cover. Walked in to a packed bar and instantly knew this was the place to be. The dance floor was pretty busy and the crowd was fun to be around. We stayed until close and enjoyed every minute. Not quite as authentic as other Irish pubs I've been to but never-the-less a great place to be. Crowd and music was diverse which made it even more fun to stay until close (still packed at close as well). My experience in Louisville is limited but Molly Malone's was great fun.

Great place to watch the World Cup. Kinda pricey pints, but worth it for the atmosphere. BBC Kolsch is a tasty crisp, clean seasonal.

Great Irish pub on the main drag in Louisville. The bartender downstairs in the indoor/main portion of the bar was not at all friendly, and he didn't really have a reason to be, he wasn't busy. I'd never been to Louisville before, so I asked for a Mint Julep. I was surprised to get a simple, "No," and that's it. I'm sure he gets that request about a million times a week from idiots like me, but there's three things that bartenders should never be, rude, dismissive, and silent. He was all three. I'm not going to bitch about that guy though, it might have been a bad night for him. The outdoors deck was a cool place to drink. I was here alone so I just leaned on the rail and smoked while I watched the street below. I was able to successfully start up a conversation with the bartender out here at this bar station, and I learned why I couldn't get a Mint Julep, so it was a good end to the night.

The Guiness is good, fish and chips authentic, but my usual favorite bangers and mash leaves a little to be desired. I wish they would work on trad music. Good atmosphere in the fun part of Bardstown area.
