9 reviews for Mojoe's Burger Joint
I end up in the greater Glenwood South area for my late nights pretty frequently. Just as frequently, I want a good spot to grab a bite to eat and a beer. While most of the area is overflowing with a meat market of a bar scene where you have you shout to be heard and/or flash a flirty smile at a bartender to get attention, I find that it's best to retire to the patio at Mojoe's and share a bucket of beer with my friends.
You end up getting exactly what you pay for. The burgers are just a tad pricier than fast food fare, and that much better. Not feeling a burger? They have surprisingly good wings (the insane sauce is spicy enough to make you sweat and loosen the sinuses without being unbearable) and a few quality veggie options for the granola set. These make it a great stop before a game, for lunch, or after a long night (see you there).
They don't have any beer on tap, and the bottled selection they have is pretty limited. Still, something is always on special (Wednesday night, it's Pabst tall-boys!) and perfectly complimentary to the bar food you can get.
On a busy night, they're normally under-staffed and have only two waitstaff/bartenders for the entire spot. The restaurant is small enough that this usually isn't a huge problem, but one difficult table can keep you around a while. As long as you're ordering your beer by the bucket, though, you should be fine.
OK - Not sure if this is fair because it's not actually a review. But - seriously it was 1:45 a.m. this Saturday night and I walked into MoJoe's to order some food. They quite rudely told me they were closed. Are you serious??? It's not even 2 a.m. on a Saturday night - there are literally thousands of people getting out of bars all on Glenwood south, no where else to eat other then the street meat, and this place is closing 1/2 hour before the bars do? Literally hundreds of people walk by this place on their way home or looking for a cab. This is retarded! Whoever manages this place needs a stern talking to. This place literally loses hundreds of dollars per Friday/Saturday night when they choose to close before 3 a.m.
As part of my spending more time in Raleigh, I've been a regular for lunch down in the Glenwood area. We hit Mo Joe's for lunch the other day and I was pretty impressed.
1. BURGERS. This place is all about meat. It is 100% focused on hamburgers with a few sandwiches and salads slipped into the menu.
2. FRENCH FRIES. Hamburger's little side kicks. They were pretty good.
3. ONE POUND BURGER. I actually ordered the 1 lb burger. It was quite good, although it was cooked well. That's a lot of well cooked beef to eat in a sitting.
4. ATMOSPHERE. This is decked out like a local bar - there isn't anything fancy on the inside and there is a nice outdoor patio area. If it is a hot day the AC doesn't necessarily hold up.
This was a good place for lunch and I'll certainly return.
If you need a hamburger at three in the morning, then MoJo's is the place to go. The bar has amazing hamburgers, decent beer prices and selection, and is serving food right up until closing time.
They have one exceptionally large burger that if you manage to finish it they'll put your picture on the wall. Consequently there are TONS of pictures all over the walls of the place-it can be fun to check them all out and see if you can find people you know.
After 10pm on weeknights burgers are only $2....best deal in town.
3.5 stars (rounded up to 4). Great local spot to sit at the bar or with a group of friends for cheap burgers after 10 pm, good beer (the special changes by night of the week -- e.g. High Life for $2), and watching the game (on a small screen albeit).
Bartenders are somewhat friendly, somewhat gruff.
My girlfriend and I went here late the other night and I thought the food was pretty good. They offer a variety of burgers but I opted for chicken instead and it was quite tasty. The fries and onion rings are also pretty good. The location is unbeatable and being able to sit outside late at night in downtown Raleigh puts this on my short list for when I have the midnight munchies.
The burgers at Mojoe's are quite good, but a little small. The patties are thick and juicy, and the toppings are decently fresh, but I don't like the buns they use or their fries. The fries are a little too soggy and not that fresh, so I can't recommend them over some of the other places in Raleigh. Not a bad lunch stop, but if you have the time, try some of the other burger joints in the area.
They were voted Best Burgers in town once, which is why I wanted to go, but I didn't think they were really the best. I had an angle where I could look in at the kitchen and saw the guy putting down what looked like frozen patties. Not cool. Yummy fries, though.
Definitely high on my favorite burger joint list. I recommend the carnivore. I tried their fried chicken sandwich once, and I didn't care for it. Stick with the burgers!
