And we have a winner for "Best Coffee Shop Drink That Sounds Like A Porn Star Move" !!!
The Ginger Steamer.
Free wifi, decent views. If you offer food, you should be required to accept CC. Minus one star.

Could & should be better. Has a lot going for it on paper, but rather subpar in practice - reminds me of most men I date. I live up the street so have stopped in a few times thinking one day the coffee will get better or the service less flighty or the baked goods not as stale as last month - alas, it's more of the same.
Great block, wonderful exterior, even more adorable interior, free wifi. But the coffee is so bitter. Price of hot is W. Village comparable, but for some reason adding ice cubes makes it $3.75? This has always confused me - iced coffee actually uses less coffee because the ice (read: free NYC tap water in frozen form) takes up cup real estate. So why the big price increase?
And why do the close at 8?

A tiny but pleasant place for breakfast or chilling in Greenwich Village.
This little wooden delight is steps from my friend's apartment. She commented that she used to get their breakfast burritos every day until she realized how much money she was spending and began attempting to make them at home. Unfortunately she just can't get them right and I can see why. The toasty little burrito is the perfect size, packed with fluffy eggs, pico de gallo, beans, and cheese. The eggs alone impressed me but since breakfast burritos are my favorite breakfast, I was a happy camper.
The interior is something special. There is a little bit of brick, but everything else is wood; the walls, the tables, even the beverage sleeves are made of cork ("No trees were harmed in the making of this sleeve"). Canvas coffee sacks hang as curtains on the front door and somehow less-typical-than-usual artwork is for sale on the walls.
The thing that really gave Mojo something extra for me was not my delicious espresso, or my friend's "perfectly toasted" bagel, it was the sassy, sarcastic, almost inappropriate employee. He was funny and he gave the place style as he drawled impatiently at us that we could take as much time as we needed. We did and I'm glad.

THIS COFFEE SHOP RULES!!!!!!!!!!!! The atmosphere is soothing and rustic and the coffee is simply delicious. Everyone who works there is friendly and polite.
In a city filled with Starbucks and tons of corporate chains , it is so refreshing to see REAL people behind a business, this is truly what the west village is all about. Support the locals, and this shop is what the locals and New York are all about

Good coffee, great interior, meh food.
The coffee was strong and darkly roasted which I like on occasion. If strong coffee is your thing, you probably want to check this place out. Although I am a huge strong-coffee-sissy, so take my judgement with a grain of salt.
I loved the interior while I was waiting for my food. The place is small, but packed full of wood - wood floors, wood walls, even tree slices as tables. This place is lumber-rriffic. The cup sleeves were made of a cork or cork-like material. It worried me a bit, since I know that cork is endangered, but the inside is labeled with a notice that no trees were harmed in the making of this sleeve. Recycled cork maybe? I'm not sure if it's possible, but the sleeves were so sturdy they could be reused as well.
I ordered a caprese breakfast wrap. Fresh basil, tomato slices and egg, wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. I really wanted to love it, but I didn't. The fresh tomato and basil next to the warm eggs created a lukewarm liquidy wrap that didn't have a ton of flavor. I realize they can only do so much in a 4 foot wide kitchen, but the menu led me to believe that I was going to get something spectacular.

You know, its not even that the coffee is that fantastic.....its just the whole package. Owner's kids are cute, people who work there are cute and very nice, the lemonade is legit and the WiFi is free. Can't beat it.

Out of convenience, I've been back to Mojo on a number of occasions and wanted to point out, much of what I had written remains the same, BUT
its been just as clean as any other place and I've not found anything that didn't belong in any of my drinks and/or food since my first experience.
On the other hand, I have a little issue that I've experienced and seen happen to others of late:
Do I want more food (despite a pretty fattening meal)? or if I could spend more money there, or being prompted to buy other things - doesn't feel welcoming - and I don't hog space for hours at a time.
Despite being unspeakably low on funds, I do choose to spend several dollars, not hours, that I can't really afford here -to support this place -but I keep that to myself, if Mojo is in trouble, they should tell their workers to keep that to themselves.
I don't mean this to sound rude - it was just off putting to hear it being asked to myself and some other people.

For a brief moment this was my favorite coffee shop in manhattan. The lighting is great, the food selection is great. The coffee is a little pricey, but then, it is the west village. What isn't expensive in the WV?
So I had been there about 6 times and on my last visit about 10 minutes after I sat down a man (aka the owner) approached me and the girl next to me who had sat down at the same time as me. He handed us each notices and told us that we couldn't stay more than an hour. I was a little taken aback since we were the last ones to have entered the coffee shop and there was a huge loud obnoxious group taking up half of the shop, who had loudly and clearly announced to a friend on the phone that they had been there for well over an hour and would be there for awhile longer. How did they bypass the hour rule?
Needless to say the girl sitting next to me asked the owner why we were singled out and he embarrassdly shrugged and walked away.
So I drank my overpriced coffee (I figured that if they were atleast going to charge me 2 bucks for a small mediocre coffee they'd let me sit there for atleast a couple of hours, especially when the place is rarely busy in the afternoon) and stayed my slotted 1 hour and went on my way. Oh and the obnoxious group, as well as every other person that was there when I got there was still there without any sign of leaving soon.
It's funny how paying customers can only stay an hour but employees friends can come in every day and sit and chat with the employees for hours on end.
I won't be going back to my now least favorite coffee shop.

This is more of a walk-in, walk-out space than an unpack-and-labor place. It is pretty looking, with the nameplate dangling over the door. Worn wood floors, exposed brick walls on one side with exposed utilities, rough-cut wood on the other. The chairs are surprisingly comfortable, but the tables are shockers if you're looking for space. They are cross-cut tree trunks, and the surface is a bit too high for a laptop. There is also a common table and a bar, with backless stools. My body does not agree with backless stools.
Prices are a bit expensive ($3 for small iced coffee). There are some pastries and cookies, though in limited supply.
All-in-all, a little too precious for my needs. I like it rough. But, a cute place nonetheless. Of course, it's part and parcel of the neighborhood.

I should have reviewed this a tad bit earlier, (I recently reviewed Dojo, I could have had a rhyming thing going.)
I was having an off-day, so I decided to just drop all responsibilities and go exploring in the West Village. I didn't even Yelp before I left, I wanted to wander in uncharted territories. I started walking from my home on Fifth Ave towards the West Village, down Greenwich Ave. onto Christopher Street. My gray-sky mood had me somewhat depressed so my hopes weren't very high. I kept walking when I saw a somewhat familiar face coming towards me.
"Is that? Wait....no it can't be...." my mind was racing.
The face looked at me with a look that showed he was thinking the same thing as me.
It was Sam P!!!
"Miller is that you?!" he asked.
We gave each other a hug, and he asked me what I was doing.
"Just exploring....I have nowhere to go," I replied.
He pointed further west and suggested Mojo. "It's perfect."
I headed that direction. I had never run into somebody and recognized them solely off the internet. But that's Yelp for you!
Mojo was perfect for me at the time. Nobody was there except a single employee. He had some type of accent, and he was as gay as they come. "Please don't leave me, I'm very lonely." He pleaded. I told him as long as there was an outlet, I was all his. I plugged in my laptop and started doing work. The employee (who had a great playlist going on his iPod) would come over and talk and ask questions about me.
I ordered a lemonade and an almond croissant (scrumptious.) I'm going to have to go back and actually order coffee before I dish out another star. Thanks to Sam P. for the suggestion, and thank you Yelp, for making this world a little more exciting.

I give my 'tea' a 5 star and my friend enjoyed his ginger lemonade. I sat outside on the bench since it was a nice day and no seats inside. When I go back next time and get lucky with a table hopefully my experience with this quaint coffee shop is just as good.

This place seems like it should be a perfect little coffee shop, but something about the atmosphere just never felt quite right to me and I still can't place what it is despite several visits. It feels a bit cold for some reason. But anyways, it's still a nice quiet space to just read or get a bit of work done, or meet up with a friend, and it's in a calmer pretty part of the village. I love their ginger lemonade, and the food is decent. If you're there later in the afternoon their baked goods are 1/2 price. I like this place, but if you're looking for a nice cozy coffeeshop in the village I'd definitely recommend doma first.
A new coffee shop, a first-to-review, AND a meta-yelp all at once! I knew this was going to be a good day...
Desperate to shake-up my coffee shop routine, I was tipped off to this place by my friend Rich, another coffee shop rover. It's in that zone of the Village west off Hudson that seems to belong to the rich bohemians who can afford to live here, but that doesn't make it any less welcoming. Huge wooden panels, exposed brick, quirky lighting fixtures, and big, floor to ceiling windows only add to it's cozy charm. The coffee is pretty good - a little weak for my tastes, but good - the sandwiches are better, and the staff is as nice as can be.
While it seems to be a new place (I had to add it to Yelp), i think the word is out among the West Villagers - as I write this the line is almost out the door, and many people have come in hoping to snag one of the tables and left disappointingly. Clearly it's the new place to be, and I should know, as I'm here right now.

Here is the thing I don't understand about coffee shops (especially if they are in the Village): Why bother existing at all if you're going to close at 8PM. 8PM people!! You are a coffee place. You are in an area full of people who need to stay up. 8PM is the time people will start *arriving*.
Really, any coffee place that closes before 11 on weeknights and 2am on weekends gets minus two stars automatically.
Mojo is a cute place, otherwise. Too small for me, but they want to keep it intimate. They do have wifi and plenty of outlets and it smelled nice. But when I saw the whole bit about closing at 8 I knew that I was not going to be happy with this place.
8PM!!!
This place is probably great for folks in the nabe, but it's not worth, say, coming downtown for. Certainly not good for meeting friends for writing. And you are SOL if you need caffeine at 8:02.

Pretty excited about this place. Usually quiet enough to actually read or work, and I love the fact that it doesn't have that overwhelming stale smell of coffee inside.
Been open for about six months and almost no press or reviews about it anywhere (until yesterday), which means it still has a local vibe and not overrun by mobs of people like every other coffeehouse in the area. The people here are nice and so are the people that come here. I also like the fact I often see families with small (quiet and nice) children stop by to hang out here, and there are no/limited numbers of pretentious pricks loudly discussing the 'meaning' of their next novel/play/song, or any other categorically obnoxious staples typically found at popular coffeehouses.
Hopefully it will stay that way.

I found this place by accident, non descript, on my way back from the water park. I found it to be overpriced and crowded but I would still come back for the friendly service, and the great tasting baked goods.

The coffee is really good. $2 is about right for the village. The owners seem fairly nice, no complaints there, and there are usually attractive woman to glance at. But I avoid this place when I have to work, write, or read. I can never get a seat, and the tables are extremely small. Coffee is good, atmosphere is not
love this small coffee shop.
when i found this place, which was 2007 aug, i just moved in from california that day. i was super tired and hopeless to find a place where provides free wi-fi. super luckly, when i just opened my laptop, there was wi-fi! so that i could search interior shops to find some furniture. i was so happy that i found this place and the coffee was so good.
love their coffee. atmosphere. oh and queen amidala comes to this place, too. she lives around here..well, i've never expected to see queen amidala, but i go to this place for good coffee and have never been dissappointed!
