While walking with friends and my mother, a man jumps in front of us as we are considering eating at Mojitos.  I had eaten there before and had a decent experience.  He said, "If you want good Puerto Rican Food, this is not the place. " Then he looked away.  I had eated there already and knew the food was pretty good.  So I thought the guy was just some crazy man.  Then he said, "if you want good food, go elsewhere, because here, we have excellent food."

My mother said "this dude has game".  So she got herself a chuleta.  Which is a pork chop for all you gringos. It was a pork chop to her to, because she is a gringa.  The mofongo with chicken and creole sauce was great.  The steak and onions were equally satisfying.  They have a carrot oil vinegar dressing which is different.  Overall, it was a 4 and 1/2 star experience sitting on the sidewalk in the sidewalk cafe.  I take a 1/2 star away in principle because i was gamed into ordering avocado, and it was not ripe.  I am not sure who was at fault, but I am more than happy to feel any puerto rican avocados to make sure that they are ripe.  ;)

Our cabdriver mentioned that this was his favourite place in PR for mofongo, so we stopped by for lunch on the 98F day with no breeze.  The air conditioning was welcomed!

Our server was spacey to say the least.  Having had attentive and fast service at Bonbonera earlier in the day, we expected something similar.  But no.  He dropped off the menus, then disappeared.

When he stopped by 10 minutes later, we asked for mojitos.  5 minutes later, a woman serving another table asked if we had put in orders (just drinks), and then went to get them.

Server showed up again, and we asked a question about something on the menu; server disappeared.  10 minutes later, he came back and asked for our order.  "Did you find out about item x?"  We don't have any.  Ok.  So we ordered the fried pork mofongo (which he told us was most traditional) and chorizo con vino.

I wanted another mojito, but that was not going to happen.

The food arrived quickly, but was bland or greasy. The chorizo dish tasted like greasy polish sausage in salad oil (the bread was not improved by dipping it in the oil) and the mofongo tasted like hardened paste with rock-like pieces of pork.   I love plantains and breadfruit and had a lot of it made inventively and great in St. Lucia; as for pork--how many bbq places have I reviewed?  But this was not good.  It was bland and tough.  I tried to eat some of the cold veggies, but they were off (ie had gone bad).  No amount of the salad dressings or sauces on the table could save this dish.  Maybe we got the one bad mofongo that made poi taste fantastic; I seriously can't believe how bad it was.

I wanted to like the food.  I actually think that we were sent to tourist hell because most of the other people there were tourists.  It was so hot that we didn't really think much about simply cooling down--how bad can the national dish be even at a tourist trap?  Bad.  Really really bad.

We should have eaten at that place up the road with great smells wafting from the inside and a menu written in chalk.

I was in town visiting a friend and after we dropped off my bags at her place and changed, she took me to Mojito's.  mMm was that a wise choice!  I loved it here.  It was my first encounter with mofongo and I LOOOOVVEEEDD IT!  It was so great, I begged her to take me there that following Monday.

I had the Chicken with garlic, Mojito's rice (yellow rice), and plain mofongo.  The chicken was sooo good and tenderized so it looked like a HUGE portion.  Everything tasted so good together too! The portion sizes were so large I could eat half then and half later.  My dish also came with salad with a choice of one of two dressings.  I chose the one with the oil and spice in it and it complemented the salad nicely.  The only thing I'd advise is that you order bottled water.  When we ordered tap water, the glasses we drank from had a funny taste to them. ew.  That aside though, my experiences at Mojito's were a great ones!  We ate on the patio the first time and in the dining room the second time I was there.  Inside, it can get a little chilly due to the A/C so if you enjoy the warmth, you might want to grab a table outside.

During the week, they have lunch specials so if you're in the area, you might want to take advantage of that.  If you've never tried mofongo before, Mojito's is a great place to try it as they can prepare the mofongo other ways as well.  But MAN, is it tasty! I'm drooling just remembering it now.  Mojito's is close to the cruise ports as well so if you're visiting, you might want to make a special stop here.  I reiterate, the food was great!

!Buen provecho!

We went back AGAIN 3 hours before our flight.  I know I know... we were pushing it in terms of time but the food was worth it.

This time I had my normal rice and beans with sweet plantains (amarrillos) BUT I ate off of everyone else's plate.

My younger sister ordered bistec with onions again, superb.
My other sister ordered pork chops (EXCELLENT)
My mom ordered chicken with garlic (EXCELLENT)

Again, we have never had anything bad at this restaurant.  With its great location I can't see why it is really a local restaurant and not flooded wtih the tourists from the cruise ships.

If you are ever in the area, do stop in!

we came here for drinks when we were waiting for our tables at Raices. I had their mojito but was a little disappointed. the drink was fairly strong but the taste was covered up by the excessive sugar they put in the drink. if they toned down on the sugar, it would of been better.

$8 for the mojito, which is resaonable

Went there for dinner last spring.  Very good value at $60 of food for two.   Although the decor is environment was lacking, the food quality was not.   We had the calamari and amarillos to start out which quickly replenished us from a long day at Old San Juan.  We had the large shrimp and the chicken mofongo and both were rich with flavor.  The waiter struggled to keep up with our requests and the plastic plates were not appealling, the food left us very fulfilled.   This is a much cheaper alternative to the more popular Parrot Club or Aquavivo.

Mmmmm... The mojitos were so yummy and great. I personally don't like mojitos but I had to try one after reading the reviews. Thanks for recommendation, they were so good I had to have more than 1.
