Modesti's is awesome! I've been going to them for almost 5 years I believe and they have always and continue to provide top notch service.
Jonathan, Danny and Nick are always so sweet and they provide great customer service. I love the fact that as a woman I can go into a car repair shop and not feel cheated. They are always kind enough to explain the finer details of any service they doing to my car. That really makes me feel confident that they're not taking advantage and besides how many places actually do that.
Their offices too are always clean and they're all very professional. I can't forget the great driving service as well; Martin is on-time and a funny guy too.
As long as I buy a Japanese car, it's going to them for service. :)
Yay Modesti's!! -
Review from AJ R.
When I first moved to LA years ago, my Accord was having some problems. I looked around online and found this place and brought it in.
First of all the place is very handsome with lots of wood around - not something one would even think about with this kind of shop..... but its great!
Most importantly, very professional, honest, the mechanic came in to tell me what the problems were and he didnt talk down to me, he explained the issues so that I could understand (and believe me, I do my own valve adjustments on my race bikes.... I would have known if he were BSing me.... ).
They finished the car and I went on my way. They made follow up calls to make sure the car was repaired as it should....
First class shop! I wish I lived closer! Thanks guys. -

Take your car here you won't be sorry. They are honest, do good work, and don't sell you stuff you don't need. Will only be taking my car here. Oh and they will pick you up/ drop you off if you need a ride.

I spent years and years taking my old car to different places all over Los Angeles and continued to get the shaft (albeit of varying sizes) over and over again. All that changed the day I went to Modesti's and now I won't take my car anywhere else. They are fast, friendly, and straightforward - I've been for mostly minor services but the staff has always taken the time to level with me and truly weigh the pros and cons of performing ANY possible procedure, no matter how slight. I recommend Modesti's to anyone who will listen and now, anyone who can read.

Another five star rating for Modesti's!! I did a free AAA inspection with a coupon and they did an excellent and thorough job. I explained at the start that I would be doing the inspection there, but the repairs elsewhere, and they were fine with that. They identified a problem I've got with an axle boot, but mentioned that I could replace the boot without the axle, whereas other shops had tried to sell me the axle.
Bottom line, as it's AAA, the parts will always be a bit more, but they're more reliable than say Pep Boys or a cheaper auto shop (which could turn out to be more expensive in the long run). Modesti's passed my little AAA inspection test, and I'll be back to use them on a regular basis now. -

I love Modesti's. I bought a used car, and had been taking it to a place much farther away at the recommendation of my uncle. Well, the car kept having problems, and it eventually broke down and was smoking from the hood. My husband was at work, and I don't know anything about cars, so I was kind of freaking out. I needed to get it towed somewhere, so I went on the AAA website. I didn't even check reviews, but something told me to call them, so I did. I don't even know who it was that I talked to on the phone, but he was so incredibly nice. He calmed me and down and told me it would be fine if I had the car towed to them, even if I couldn't accompany it. It was my husband who ended up going later to take care of the car, and he was impressed at how great they were there. Told me I had made the right call!
I have a new car now, and both my husband and I take our cars here for everything, and we constantly recommend it to others. Everybody who works here is incredibly nice, they always remember us and ask us about how things are going, and it is obvious that our cars are in good hands. They are flexible with when we drop it off and pick it up if we have to work around my husband's work schedule.
If you have to stay there to wait for your car, they have a nice little area to wait in with magazines and a coffee maker, which is great.
We always feel truly cared about at Modesti's, which is especially important for me, as a woman, to know that I am not being taken advantage of because I don't know anything about cars. They care about their customers and always want them to be happy and satisfied. They take their time to explain things to you and answer all of your questions.
I would highly recommend this place to anybody. If you want your cars to be in good hands, take it here! -

Modesti's is great! I started going here last year and I couldn't be happier. These folks are very honest and treat their customers with respect. My vehicle is older but I take great care of it. I've become used to taking it to the drive through oil change places where they try to stick you with a bunch of services you don't need. The first time I took my Navigator in for an oil change, I fully expected to hear the same old story about services I need to have completed. That wasn't the case. Jonathan told me the vehicle was in great shape and they gave it their full inspection and nothing else needed to be done.
I went in again today for an oil change and mentioned that the front brakes were squeaking a bit. I'm sure that 80% of the repair places this side of the Mississippi would take that as an invitation to perform a brake job whether it needed it or not. Again, this wasn't the case at Modesti's. They called me up after the oil change was complete and let me know that there was plenty of brake pad left and they wouldn't need servicing for some time. Now that's honest! I did have a couple additional services completed but nothing extraordinary or overly expensive.
If you live on the west side and you're looking for a great place to take your ride and not get taken advantage of, Modesti's is the place. -

Wouldn't bring my Honda anywhere else. AAA approved with good reason. They have never let me down. I've had three Hondas only serviced there in the last 25 years.

I used to live in Culver City and then Torrance, then Norwalk, then Monterey Park. This is one of only two establishments that I still drive back for and continue to patronize.
Why? Basically I have never been ripped off or even suspected I was. They are really good about estimates, calling if there is a change, giving honest assessments if something they find can be safely put off until the next visit (I am pretty regular about oil changes and routine maintenance).
I've been using Modesti's for about 12 years. My X's family for maybe 12 more before that (not sure). Its gotta tell you something. -

I have found the one and only auto shop that I will go to for the rest of my life!!! They are honest, informative, and pleasant. From the time you drive in and drive off, you feel taken care of. Heck, they make spending a couple hundred dollars enjoyable. They're not like your dad's auto shops, they have the latest equipment and diagnostic equipment and do an amazing job.
It's awesome that they also provide shuttle service back and forth in the area. All in all, the most amazing auto shop EVER!!!! -

West Los Angeles, CA
This place is great! The work on all Asian makes and have been in business since 1972. They do good work, great diagnostics. I have been taking my cars to them for years. I took my 87 corolla there and I take my 2005 corolla there as well.
The prices are competitive and they have decades of experience.
One of the nice features is the nice environment with clean rest rooms, waiting areas with tea and coffee. Another benefit is their pick up van service. If you live in their 'pickup/delivery zone', you can drop off their car and they will take you home/to work while they work on your car. When its done, they will pick you up. Not everyone today offers this service.
The prices have always been close in the estimates they give and they always call me if they find anything else that needs to be worked on. The staff is professional and courteous. Take your care there and it will be well cared for! -

I took my car here to have a fuel system fault diagnosed, which had already been diagnosed by someone else for free, but I wanted a second opinion and a quote on the repair. The non-refundable diagnostic fee (not even if you have the work done there) just doesn't cut it in this day and age. What's more, the garage that I eventually took the car to to have the work done literally charged me 40% of the price I was quotedby Modesti's and told me that they couldn't get the job right first time because Modesti's replaced some hoses wrong during their diagnosis. I don't know if this was true, or they were laying blame on someone else. Just saying.....Anyway, my final impression is Modesti's is good for fancy cars with fancy money. I am sure they do decent service, but the rest of us needs something a little more down to earth.

Besides my Dad, Modesti's are the only people I'll let touch my car. They are thorough, honest, meticulous, their service area is sparkly clean and the mechanics are all(un-PC but true) very articulate English speakers.
Up front, Danny, Nick, John and crew will give you a warm welcome, a complete report on your car's health, and they're always on time.
If only going to the Doctor's could be such an efficient and helpful experience.
I've been taking my Toyotas and Hondas there for than 10 years.
Go - your wheels will be well taken care of. -

My whole ordeal was costly and I did have to bring it back twice but they did fix and solve the problem. Posting my review may have made my hubby wait longer but they did take care of it. So I 'm changing my review to at least a 3.

These guys are great. I've taken my aging Subaru Outback to them several times and like the fact that I never feel like I'm being pressured/upsold to get more work done than is necessary. Unpleasant and expensive surprises from repair shops are pretty standard stuff but I haven't experienced any of these with Modesti's. Everyone I've dealt with there -- the front desk guys, the shuttle driver -- is friendly and helpful, and they do quality work. Highly recommended, check 'em out.

Modesti's is great. Very honest, helpful, friendly and they know their stuff. I've been coming here for years and highly recommend them. I never have to worry about getting ripped off or be concerned that my car will come back worse than when I took it in.

Not pushy, remembered my name, very personal, gave great advice even when it didn't benefit them, Quick, curteous, kind, helpful. No matter what car I will have, I will definitely keep bringing it back here. And recommend it!

the service was quick and well done - everyone is so polite and nice! They even gave me a ride to and from work while the work was getting done, and called me to let me know everything that could be done, why it might need to get done, and they didn't pressure me about accepting any services I didn't feel comfortable with. Plus, I love all the magazines in their waiting room! I will definitely be going here again. Make sure and mention yelp if you stop by!

When I took my car, I was was told that they would charge $50.00+ to check where the problem is, which was fine. But when I received my invoice, I realized that that fee didn't go into my repair fee.
And I was talking with other people at work how much I paid, everyone told me that I was ripped off... I called to a couple of other repair shops, all of them gave me about $100.00 less estimates.
Well, I trusted the sign, AAA authorized, but I think they charge too much. Their service was good, but I think I'd rather find somewhere who doesn't charge such a high "diagnosis fee." -

I've tried another place in the west L.A. area and I was not happy with it. I used to work next door to Modesti's, right off Jefferson. Now I work in Santa Monica and I still take my car to Modesti's because I like the service so much there. I definitely trust this shop!

I love these guys! They are the best in town and have 5 star service from the time you drive on their lot. They really care about you and your car and are always honest about the problems and solutions!
I love this place and I am so lucky to have found it! Also, they reward you for each time you recommend someone to them. You can choose if you want an oil change, a gift card to Bed, Bath and Beyond or 2 movie tickets at a local theatre. Yay! -

The service I received at Modesti's was superb. Their staff was professional and courteous. Nick, my service writer, answered all my questions. The work on my car was completed in a very timely manor. They offer a shuttle service that took me home and picked me up when my car was ready. It was overall the best experience I've had when it comes to taking my car in for maintenance and service.

Review from Andrew C.
Los Angeles, CA
Yes, it's true, they couldn't make me happy, with them. Calling me up an hour or so after I leave a negative review here only let's me know that they're aware of the net. I called him back as he said he wanted to talk to me. And he apologized that they dropped the ball by not calling me back after either of the two times that I called for an estimate. He didn't offer an explanation as to why they couldn't offer me an estimate over the phone either time, and for some strange reason, he didn't have the estimate info when I called him back. For that I guess I woud have had to call again to speak to some estimate specialist.

caution....remove all valuables out of your car before leaving your car with this mechanic.
i accidentally left my gym bag in my car when i left my car for repair. when i picked up my car, my ipod classic and spin shoes were stolen. the merchant was so callously insensitive to my theft claim and said they wouldn't compensate me for the theft that was undoubtedly the fault of one of their employees. obviously, this merchant thinks he is too "big to fail". who needs a neighborhood mechanic that treats neighbors this way? i'd stay away from this mechanic if i were you.Comment from Nick M. of Modesti's Neighborhood Car Care Center 2/11/2011

I had heard about Modesti's through a friend and I have nothing but great things to say about it. The staff was courteous, honest and did the job right. The shuttle ride was really the icing on the cake. I have an older Honda and I will continue to take my car there for as long as I can.

I personally hate anything related to cars. My father was a mechanic when I was a kid and tried to teach me how to fix cars. Since I was an only child with a single dad, he dragged me to every auto repair shop and parts store in the county. Now that I have a car that is older and needing work, I have been to a couple different auto repair places for fixes from here to San Diego. I have to say that Modesti's is hands down the cleanest, most professional auto repair I have EVER been to. The staff-Jonathan & Nick are so amazingly nice and professional. Even the cleaning guy walks around whistling pretty songs. They explained everything in a way for me to understand exactly what is going on with my car, what is desperately needed and what can wait. These guys are AMAZING!!! I will honestly never go any where else and will recommend this place to everyone I know!!!!
