We had to take everyone for a work team lunch recently, and a friend of mine recommended MOD Pizza. He is quite a pizza snob, so I suggested we go there.

The service from the kitchen was slow. It took longer than it should have to get our appetizers, and definitely longer than it should have to get our pizza once the appetizers were gone. The service otherwise was fine and courteous, which was good, since we were the only people in the restaurant.

I had the "Not Enough Garlic for Annie" pizza, which featured sauteed mushrooms, goat cheese and of course, garlic, on a white pizza. I thought it was delicious. The crust was nice, though I can't say it was as unique as I expected it to be given the hype and the reviews. It was a good, medium flaky crust.

I also tried the "Weekley Special" [sic] pizza, and that one was cooked just a little too long for my taste, and the crust was thinner, maybe a bit more traditional. I preferred my pizza by far. The crust should have been more consistent.

I liked MOD pizza, and will return without a doubt, but I can see they still have some kinks to work out, not the least of which is getting people in the door, but they also need to speed up the kitchen.

One last note... MOD is BYOB, and has a $5 corkage fee per table.

Very, Very blah.
Ordered a 14" with Pepperoni and Garlic and was really looking forward to this great crust they talk about on their website.  In fact maybe i wouldn't have been so disappointed if they hadn't gone into such detail about the great crust!

Instead the pizza is very much a Sysco food Service Pizza. Bland Crust, overly sweet plain red sauce, nothing special pepperoni.
Also asked for an order of garlic bread...received flattened stale  greasy bread instead.

Lesson learned, order from elsewhere. $23.00 was a lot for something we are already carting to the garbage.

Two listings for this place with an equal number of reviews!  Consolidate Yelp!

Alright I had been meaning to try this place for awhile so we went in on a weekday around 1:30pm.  The place was dead.  Cool atmosphere.  Pretty decent pizza.  Service was kind of eh... for as empty as it was we waiting a long time for drink refills.  There is a weird vibe about it that I can't put my finger on.  Definitely a nice thin crust alternative to the deep dish sea that is Chicago.

Moving to new areas, means new places to explore.

After a long day I was tired. I moved in to a new area today and as we all know moving sucks. I think if you don't agree, you might be in to S & M... maybe. Being weary and well beaten, I looked to have some delivery. I looked to MOD.

I saw earlier on an UrbanDaddy newsletter that they were opening close to my hood. Hmmm... perfect opportunity. I arrive. They open. Could a more perfect match be made?

I ordered two of their specialty pizza, one was their Grand Slam, (pepperoni, pancetta, tomatoes... heaven), and their Mi Piace Il Formaggio, (fontina, goat, ricotta, Romano, basil and white cheese sauce). Now here is the catch. The crust is sourdough crust, but really, the Grand Slam over powered any of the tang of the sourdough, but to be honest, with those toppings for some reason I didn't mind. The slightly chewy and crispy crusty was pretty good, not amazing, nothing original. The Grand was pretty amazing. It took pretty much all of my resistance to not inhale all of that pizza. The Il Formaggio, was pretty good too. Perhaps I was just craving meat.

What I wasn't craving was an over hour wait for my pizza. However when the delivery guy showed up there was no charge for my pizzas because of my extended wait. How could I say no? Its new, they have kinks and problems to work out. I understood and I appreciate their gesture. Will I return. Sure! Its in my new hood!!

I tried delivery from Mod the other day as it is close to my apartment.  I heard they specialize in thin crust and that is my fave.  I ordered the whole wheat thin crust.  The pepperoni was really good.  The crust was crispy and thin.  It was pretty solid delivery.

I bet it is even better inside the restaurant fresh.

I was expecting something more gourmet like Piece but it was nothing more than your average hole in the wall pizza place although it tries to be trendy.

I got the Garden of Eden salad. For $8 there was not enough salad to eat. The prosciutto was bad. I tried their Mod crust--nothing special. You'll find the same quality of pizza for cheaper at Sofia's Pizza on Taylor street.

Being one of the few restaurants in this area of West Loop and BYOB, it has become a staple in our repertoire. I wouldn't call it a destination pizza place unless you are looking for BYOB, but it is a solid restaurant. Pizza is very competitive and passionate discussion. You aren't going to hear people raving about MOD as a pizza place you HAVE to try, but you also won't hear people complaining about the pizza or the service.
If you are looking for a BYOB pizza joint or just in the area, there will always be a table for you at MOD.

Not bad at all.  It's right down the street from me, and a medium pizza delivered with tip is just under $20.  The pizza itself is good, though it didn't blow me away or anything.  Can't beat the bang for buck for now.  I'm one of those guys who doesn't think pizza should cost much, and I find places like Aurilio's and Giordano's's, while very good, are a bit ambitious as far as pricing, especially with delivery.  I ran into one of the owners (developers?) at a bar down the street and got his card.  Nice guy.  I'll order from MOD again.

Living right around the corner from MOD, the pizza loving Gs highly anticipated a new pizza joint in the West Loop.  Sunday afternoon we did carryout.  We got three pizzas and a salad for $35.  That's a pretty good deal, and yes we expected to have many leftovers.  The pizzas are 12", so when hungry you can easily put one away by yourself.  We got the Engine 103, the Veg out and the Grand Slam.  I expected more from the much hyped crust.  It wasn't bad, just nothing special.  I don't know if it was hand tossed or cooked in a brick oven, but it was pretty basic.  The sausage and the tomato sauce were excellent and made things a lot better.  We requested light cheeses on two pies(hers of course) and still got a ton of cheese.  This is a typical request of my wife and it always perplexes me why places would still go heavy handed with their most expensive topping.  The GS was also lacking the pancetta, which is a major oversight considering there are only three toppings.  The salad was great and had a lot of blue cheese and tasty proscuitto, which only made me think of how good that pancetta might have been.

Overall MOD was good and I want to give them the chance to work things out.  But, they've got some kinks to work out before they are a go to pizzeria for us.  Convenience only carries you so far.

Not too bad. We've ordered twice. First time the pie was really good with the right amount of cheese and sauce. Second time, way too much sauce but still good. Overall, it's definitely worth the price. Just have to work on the consistency. The crust is pretty good and the sausage is great. I will keep ordering..
