Every year my family spends a week on a houseboat on Lake Powell in August. The Moapa Travel Center has been my stop for the last 10 years.

    Fuel
-Right off the freeway, decently priced

    Alcohol/Snacks
-no tax, decently priced, nice selection

    Casino
    -who comes here to gamble?!?!

    And most importantly FIREWORKS!
I do not know if they are in the middle of a remodel or what but the firework section was 1/10 the size of its former glory. I almost cried when I walked in and saw the casino took up most of its former space. The selection of off-brand piccolo Pete's, ground flowers, firecrackers, and ect in bulk where nowhere to be found. Luckily, they still sell the good stuff and some of the legal stuff in bulk. I do not like Roman candles, mortars, or m-80s; so I am unsure if they even sell them? I recommend buying the cakes ( a cake is a box that allows you to light one fuse and it will In sequence put on a firework show for you - they do not have nearly the same firepower or explode at the same height though as mortars) The mortars in my opinion are more time consuming and allow more room for human error; especially while intoxicated.... Or so I learned... from watching... another houseboat who started a small fire one year.... Not to say their cakes are not idiot proof.... When lighting a cake make sure it is on stable ground, and has dirt propped up against it on all four sides to prevent it from falling over (you'll thank me later)!

Tips for getting the most bang for your buck....
Always buy the fireworks that are buy one get two free! Be sure to check the cakes to see how many shots come per cake. At certain dollar values you get free fireworks.

    Legality....
The Moapa travel center provides a large area for you to light off their illegal fireworks legally. And being the responsible law abiding citizen that I am I light my fireworks there on-site......Nor do I buy enough to save them for next years 4th of July celebration..... FYI possessing illegal fireworks results in them being confiscated and a hefty fine... Well if you get caught that is. :)

Overall this is great place to stop. I have been a loyal customer for 10 years and have had 0 malfunctioning fireworks (all my issues were user error). I downgraded one star due to the massive reduction in inventory (hopefully they were just remodeling?) I highly recommend this place to any pyro! BE SAFE!

It's a truckstop on an Indian Reservation which means you can get gas, booze, smokes and fireworks at a discount. However this location is a staple in Southern Nevada. With the exception stopping in when I drive to and from Utah, I would never make a special trip out there unless they were holding some kind of special event...which they were on July 3rd and 4th.

This review is mostly about the event and not the truck-stop itself which I would give FOUR stars on any given day, as far as truck stops go.

This weekend they hosted a 4th of July celebration that actually started on the 3rd when we went up there. I figured this would be a nice change to see Fireworks and one of my favorite musicians, Rick Derringer who was opening for Starship AND the concert was free!

I was expecting perhaps a large tent for the concert because of the heat and wind. I was surprised to find a small mobile stage out in the open. But hey, that was OK as the sun was going down and it was an intimate venue. I got there in the middle of Rick's sound check, grabbed a couple of portable chairs from the truck and set off to find a cold beer.

They had advertised a beer garden. I had imagined a cool covered area with chairs and tables to relax and enjoy a "coldie" away from the elements. What I found was a tent with two beer trailers and nowhere to sit. There was no Garden. The beer was not quite cold enough at first but was reasonably priced. I would suggest next year actually creating an environment where people could sit and literally "chill". You would sell more beer.

They had advertised that there would be, "...an array of food vendors." There was the Indian Taco booth and maybe three 10x10's selling a few food items. The Indian Flatbread Tacos were good, but please, next year, get some real food out there. Maybe invite some food trucks or higher-end vendors. Anyway, with the lack of an "array" we went in the store and ordered a couple of sandwiches to go so we had something to eat for the concert.

I noticed one issue from an entertainment production standpoint...and that was after speaking to a number of band members and AV crew. First, Starship's sound guys were looking for stage crew for the set change. There was only one AV tech with SIR there to help. Essentially the Starship band had to set the stage and run cables after Rick was done and during the fireworks.

There was confusion because they were told they would have a full hour to set up during the fireworks that did not last an hour. Micky was confused because he was looking at the fireworks that the attendees were setting off, thinking the main show was still going on. Too much time went by between sets and they lost a good number of the audience.

Next year, have at least 4 stage hands(which they were expecting). Bring enough XLR cable to pre-wire all of the headliner's band. Have better communication between the venue and the band.

Lastly, even once the concerts have started, please continue to water the roads and parking lot upwind from the stage(west), especially when it is windy as the dirt from the continued one-way traffic outflow sent a lot of dirt into the crowd.

All in all, I will probably go back next year if I liked the bands that were booked. I would hope for some changes that live up to the advertising. I will be prepared next year with a pop up tent, bigger chairs and a cooler.

PS: Rick Derringer and Starship ROCKED!!!!

This Travel Plaza is on an Indian Reservation and it's one of the few places to buy ILLEGAL FIREWORKS!!!  HURRAY!!!  I've been here two years in a row now and I love it!  This year they expanded and set up a giant "fireworks tent" in the parking lot, where I bought $250 worth of goodies that we set off in the empty field behind their gas station. It was so much fun!

We came on a Wednesday night and there were tons of customers.  Lots of fireworks were buy 1 get 1, or buy 1 get 2 free. Spend over a certain amount and they'll throw in a huge sack of freebies too.  We can't wait to be back :)

Ok, used to have the largest selection of fireworks. It was like you could see the curvature of the earth in this place! I guess booze and gambling pay the bills a bit better. They have moved everything around, the fireworks are where the one armed bandits used to be. It is large, clean, huge selection of alcohol and cigarettes.

If you are on your way to Valley of Fire, you must stop here for snacks if you did not pack them from home. It is the last stop before you enter the park, don't forget to pick up some water, it is the desert people, you need more water than you can imagine..

I love it.

This place is a whole NEW kind of fun. It's like you're in the wild wild west but with trucks & pumps!

Been coming out to Valley of Fire for like seven years now, and usually just passed this place by. But recently I've been stopping here for gas, supplies, and more. And I'm glad because it's the most unique and "raw" (in a good way) convenience store experience you could ever hope to have.

They got gas. They got food. They got snacks. They even got a nice view. But best of all, they got explosives for sale! Fireworks, to be specific. And alllllll kinds, believe you me.

I bought a few and went out back to shoot them with my family and we had a blast (no pun intended. Awww who am I kidding?). I have traveled the world and am very hard pressed to think of ANYPLACE where you can buy some major fireworks and then shoot them off right next to a gas station.

    It's great.

And some of these fireworks I didn't even think would be legal for me to purchase. After I saw them launch into the air, I looked at my family and asked: "Did we need a license for that?"

Stop by. You'll remember it always.

Love this place! Lots of truck parking and the food made at the restaurant is fresh and delicious. When driving I like to stop here on my 30 minute break - so much nicer than the crowded truck parking in Vegas. Clean bathrooms are always great :) At night I can watch and light fireworks any night of the year!

My review is strictly based on Liquor purchase and prices.  Having read most of the reviews here, I was led to believe this was an extremely cheap place to purchase alcohol whilst you are in the middle of nowhere.  I was on my way to Mesquite for a golfing weekend with my buddies.  It was late, I was haulin buns from LV airport to meet up with my buds, so I pulled in here to get some libations.

FIRST - selection of alcohol is Fantastic.  They have just about anything your heart could desire.  That is a good thing.

Price ---- same as everywhere else.  Toooo many of these reviews had indicated this was a Bargain and must stop place to buy.  It is NOT.  Just normal pricing.  You want to factor in no taxes, fine, but that is that, a max of $2 on a $20 bottle.  Their prices are not that much lower.

So my review is just to set it straight.  Stop here if you have no other choices, you are in the middle of the flippin desert I get it.  But I wouldn't make this the place to stop if you are loading up for a vacation or Party.  You are still better off hitting Costco or other major outlets before you get into the desert if you have the option.

This is always a pit stop on my way to/from Utah. I can get gas, snacks, drinks, smokes and much more. The fact that everything is tax free doesn't hurt. The lines can be very long around 4th of July but the employees do a good job of keeping things moving. If you plan of getting fireworks here they are cheaper around 4th of July and the selection is bigger during that time. No matter the time of year if you buy fireworks they have a free launching pad. Most of the time people who are shooting them off don't mind if you walk over and watch the show. Aside from the huge convenient store there is also a casino/restaurant. This is great stop to fit a lot of your needs while on a road trip.

What else can I say but AWESOME! This is a must stop for us on road trips.

They have the nicest employees and while you wait your turn (if it is a real busy day) outside to go inside to purchase fireworks they even give you a free cold bottle of water. This is just when the lines are so long that they have to control it, and let so many people inside. Depending on the time of year though, you can generally just walk inside and buy them. They have awesome deals and BOGOs on fireworks!

I like the variety of snacks inside that I don't find in Vegas. If you are looking for an actual meal you can find that here too.

You can get gas here also. There is no tax and smokes are cheap. There is a good selection of beer and wines. If you are into cigars then they have a special room just for you!

I've never eaten the food here and I don't buy fireworks. But this place comes in handy when you're heading out of town North on the 15. We've stopped here many times over the years to use the toilet or get a drink. The toilets aren't the best but they are adequate. Prices on snacks and drinks are pretty similar to any gas station convenience store. Gas prices aren't even that jacked up which is surprising. Alcohol prices are pretty good though. Supposedly have good prices for tobacco products too, I can't comment on that. Staff has always been nice.
Our most recent trip to Valley of Fire for a short camping trip, this store came in handy even if the prices are a bit high. We didn't have enough fire wood or ice so a short drive out of the park got us what we needed. 2 bags of ice and 3 bags of wood cost about 30$ but that's what happens when you're not prepared.

If you are driving into Vegas from Utah, and you are on your way to a party. You might want to stop and pick up some booze, or wine.

THIS is the place to take care of that. There is no tax on anything, and alcohol seems to be cheaper here than anywhere in Vegas. They have a HUGE selection of hard liquor, wines and beers.

Also, the gas is about 5-10 cents per gallon cheaper. It's on a native American reservation...I'm assuming that's why it's cheaper. No duties. (haha)

Don't miss this spot on your drive on I-15.

So I'm having lunch from working out in the field on I 15. My coworkers suggests this place for break. Fasho.

I've always passed this place en route to Brain Head but never gave it a second thought. I'm glad we decided to break for lunch here.

I had the French dip sub with chips, one of my coworkers had the Philly cheese, and the big boy El Rico had the most gangsterest breakfast plate that I have ever seen SUN! I was eyeing the breakfast plate. I wish I took a picture of it :/  El Rico mentions to me that the turnover on cooks are real low and that they've got great cooks. FOR SHEEZIE!!!  The French dip that I had was good. I couldn't complain. When I opt for chips, I thought I was getting a bag of chips. These were FRESHLY MADE SUN!!! I've never had freshly made potato chips this good!!! You could tell and taste that they were just taken out of the deep fryer. This really stood out in my lunch experience. I was not ready for this. Because of the potato chips from this restaurant, I will always have to stop by either on the way to or coming back from Brain Head.

The run down: FIREWORKS, convenient store, restaurant which serves breakfast all day and serves FRESHLY MADE POTATO CHIPS, and FIREWORKS. YO! You can purchase fireworks and blow them up outside any day of the year!!! FOR REALLY DOE!!! SOLD!!!

    EYE LIKA CHU PEOPLES!!!

My friend and I went over to Valley of Fire this weekend and stopped at the Travel Plaza before entering the state park. We were a little unprepared for our trip (which included tent camping) -- okay, we were VERY unprepared (it was a bit of an impromptu trip) so we hoped that the Travel Plaza would have food stuffs and whatnot for us to take into the park.

The Travel Plaza is a gas station, convenience store, fireworks store, casino and diner all rolled into one. It wasn't really a general store where people could stock up on supplies, which was what we expected.

Seeing that there was mostly just fireworks and beer available and not much food, we ate at the diner inside to fill our bellies for the night. It was around 5pm. The place had your usual diner menu items (steak, eggs, pancakes) and also tacos. My friend is gluten-free, so the only seemingly safe item he could eat was the baked potato. He would have gotten the tacos, but they came with flour tortillas. I got a cobb salad, it was large enough for two people, but it has deep fried bacon and grilled chicken on it so there would be some gluten cross contamination.

Aside from that, we picked up some chips and bean dip which would serve as breakfast for us the next morning. If you are going camping in Valley of Fire, stock up on your supplies before you leave the Las Vegas area as the Travel Plaza only has bare necessities and snack food.

Beyond Killer Bees - Way Beyond.

Get gas, get smokes, get drink, get fireworks at every price point.  Sounds like a party.  Don't forget a trinket for your sweetie to patch the whole thing up tomorrow.

We just beat 50 German Harley Davidson tourists to the gas pumps.  Between them all about 200 words of English were spoken.  I wish I spoke more German.  Or they had more English speaking lead and follow car drivers.  How do you make someone with no English skills understand any extra money left over from their gas fill-up estimate will not be charged to the card?  15 times.   I'm SO glad we just beat them in.

The fireworks are like Las Vegas slot machines.  Same mechanisms in a universe of wrappers.  Wrappers matching every point of view, in all possible color combinations and all kinds of fireworks power.  A lovely way to burn money.

I bought a carved Peruvian jasper frog for Carletta, an eagle for Alicia, and a roadrunner for Rennie.  When I took Rennie her tiny memento she burst out laughing, said her childhood nickname was "Roadrunner" because she ran one down and caught it by the tail feathers.   She forgot about that until I brought the little guy in.

See the lucky kinds of gifts they've got here?

The MPTP is filled with all sorts of things from trinkets that you might find at other truck stops to of course...the fireworks.  The place was clean as was the rest rooms.

THey have a cafe inside serves breakfast and lunch items.  We ordered up a breakfast burrito and biscuits with gravy.  Could have done without the biscuits but the burrito was not bad.

Stayed out of the casino and away from the booze. No fire works...this time.

My friends, welcome to Disneyland.  Because for a pyromaniac, this is the happiest place on earth.  My friends & I visited this as part of a Vegas bachelor party.  We had such a great time on Friday, we decided to come back again on Saturday.

If you've never purchased fireworks before, ask one of the attendants for help.  If you find the right guy, he'll even demo a few for you in the parking lot.  My recommendation is to mix mortars with cakes and toss in some roman candles.  (Mortars are the type where you drop in a projectile.  For cakes, you lite a single fuse to set off a chain of fireworks.)

    Some other pieces of advice:

    - Try to get there 30 minutes before sunset.  That gives you time to shop, get set up in light, but close enough to darkness to give a really good show.

    - Visit a grocery store in Vegas before heading out.  Not that I would recommend using fireworks to blow up fruit, but if I were, based on our experience exploding cantaloupe is pretty awesome.

    - Pay attention to the price tiers.  You get free fireworks at $X, $Y, etc.   If you're close to a tier, might well spend a bit more to get the additional free stuff.  Likewise, pool money together with your group, instead of buying individually.

    - When it comes to cakes, they have some that are buy 1 get 1 free & others that are buy 1 get 2 free.  Opt for the latter.  They don't vary that much & more is better.

    - For a great show, get a few of the larger cakes & set them around the same time.  One alone isn't bad.  3-4 make for a great show.

    - Ask the cashier for "punks."  They make it easier to light fuses.

    - The have what they call a launch pad in the back.  That's a pretty generous way to describe empty dessert, but who cares?

    - Beer is cheap.  Not cheap for the Vegas strip, but really cheap.  Buy a few six packs & some jerky for the show you're about to put on for yourself, but you can also buy some to take back to Vegas.

When you head up I-15 to Utah, at exit 75 you will come to Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza. Pretty much anything you will need, but forgot to bring with you when you left Vegas is available for sale here... And then some!

The number one reason to come here is, without a doubt, the FIREWORKS! From 50 cent sparklers to full pallets of fireworks for around $900, if it explodes chances are Moapa has it. They even have a launching pad where you can set off the fireworks you buy!

There is a good selection of beer and hard liquor, lots of snacks, and souvenirs you can purchase, tax free! They also have a small casino and a cafe.

Gas is 10-20 cents higher per gallon then in Vegas and service is almost always super slow.

Welcome to the Reservation "Rez" I drive from Vegas to this place a couple of times a month. I find the slots pay off pretty good, and the food at the cafe is pretty good. The alcohol is prices right, and they have some imported cigars that you cannot get in Vegas. When you add in all the fireworks then you have a pretty good place to visit. Sometimes I take the family, and put a tent in the back where we eat and light fireworks all night. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because sometimes the workers do get a little lazy with their customer relation skills, but most times everyone is helpful and friendly.

Huge selection of fireworks.  Yes, the packaging can be a little ripped up on some of the items but they have enough of each item that I could dig around for one in better condition.  No sales tax on anything that we bought, which was nice.  The day we visited the wind was crazy which made the "launching pad" (read: desert behind the building) unusable.  That was until a semi truck driver pulled his truck up long ways, shielding the wind!  As was said before, they have fireworks for every budget, and when I was there, everything was buy 1, get 1 free with some excess going for buy 1, get 2!

Overall I would rather drive out here and include the stop on the way to Valley of Fire than drive out to Pahrump in the middle of nowhere.

I did not try any food but there were a lot of people eating, which is always a good sign.  The booze and cigs were also well stocked, though we did not partake in that either.

Fireworks!  If your like me and come from the oppressive state from the west then this is a good place to enjoy some explosive freedom.  The prices for fireworks are very fair and the prices for booze is ok.  But combine the two of them with the launch pad in the back of the store and you have the makings for a great time.

Of course, one big thing they do is sell fireworks.   They have a launching pad right outside in the desert.   Remember though, fireworks are illegal outside the reservation.   But oh man, what a blast it is to light off fireworks.   Yeah, it's a simple pleasure, but it's worth every penny.

OK, let's see,.. beer - check... beef jerky - check.... clean bathrooms - check ...lighting fireworks that shoot up in the air without fear of arrest !!? - check check check and check !!! OMG This place is a five star situation if there ever was one. FYI don't bring any fireworks (ANY) with you as you drive away. Apparently, local law enforcement frown at that. That's right Nancy, they stop you right before the on-ramp and search your car... not all the time, but the threat is there.  We live on the Cali coast, so considering it's a 6 hour drive to Vegas, we found the 40 minutes it took (from Vegas)  wasn't a big deal travel time wise. We went to buy and light fireworks. We had a blast (pun intended) The "Travel Plaza" itself is basically a truck stop off the I15  that happens to have a casino, cafe, store, etc. You can see it from the freeway. Nothing a super special 7-11 wouldn't have. But the restrooms were clean and they stocked a lot of items in the store. But as I mentioned, we were there for the fireworks. The prices seemed fair and we had a great time lighting them off in the back lot facing into the forever of night desert sand and space.

A tiny casino and a small Mexican restaurant are here, along with someone selling some very leathery jerky outside, but the big attraction here I think is the fireworks shop.  They've all sorts of variety with individual pieces starting at 40 cents and going up to a $600 package that I saw.  Even saw a 16,000 package of ladyfingers there.   All that and all I could do was drool because being a Californian, fireworks are a  no-no.   Had I seen the launching pad Bill's review mentioned, I might have bought some to shoot there though because there was pretty much every type you could want, including a 3ft long sparkler.  Aw well, made for a nice convenient stop to pick up a soda before heading to the Valley of Fire Park

We stopped here at the Cafe for breakfast on the recommendation of our cab driver when he learned we were planning a full day at the Valley of Fire State Park followed by the loop to Hoover Dam. Boy, were we glad we followed his advice! This is not the kind of place I would have ever wandered into or decided to eat at on our own. The waitress was friendly, the food came quickly, and it was GREAT. Everyone at our table (6 of us) loved our food. My daughter's BLT came with HOMEMADE warm potato chips that everyone kept snitching off of her plate. My only teensy tiny complaint is that my biscuits and gravy were woefully low on sausage. The gravy tasted good though, and the biscuits were obviously homemade, so it wasn't a huge deal. Heading past this place? Stop and grab breakfast!

Honest firework review, Came here from Vegas looking for fireworks like a lot of people do around this time of year. i came here the day after new years and dam did it look like a freak shop. From other pictures i can tell when its not a hectic firework buy time the store is tidy and nicely organized but when i went this place it looked like a bunch of wild animals went through the store  not all fireworks were listed at buy one get one free it was just some select ones. right away first thing i noticed was the prices were nearly doubled on what they should be due to the fact some items were buy one get one free. the selection on fireworks were not that great either and the fact they carry a random Chinese brand I've never heard of it wasn't so appealing this 30-40 minute drive id would say would be worth it if your in Vegas willing to spend 450 or less for the free promotional deal. Everything i picked up i made sure was bogo( buy one get one) or buy one get two free i personally would take the hour drive up to pahrump and check out Red apple fireworks where you can buy by the cases and beats Alamo because to get wholesale prices you must spend at least 1000.

My husband and I drove out to Valley of Fire from Las Vegas on our honeymoon. We are from New York City and love experiencing completely new parts of the country. We hadn't eaten all day and were hungry so we stopped at the Travel Plaza to grab chips or some kind of snack. We decided the eat in the restaurant and while it didn't look like much, the food was SO good. They made us fries and wraps fresh right there and it really hit the spot. We checked out the casino (kind of small) and the giant fireworks store on our way out. The Travel Plaza was a cool experience and if we're ever out in the middle of nowhere again, we'll go back! :)
