My husband and I ended up at the Moab Brewery the night of our first wedding anniversary. We arrived in town late in the evening and after we'd set up our tent at Arches and driven back into town, everywhere was packed. While it's not your typical romantic anniversary spot, Moab Brewery seemed like the best bet for getting food before my blood sugar dropped and I became a crazy person (also not romantic).
Despite the crowd we were able to get a table quickly, and started with a beer sampler. I don't normally drink a lot of beer, but hey, it was a celebration. We split the darker and more hoppy beers, which we thought were pretty decent, and then fought over who had to drink the lighter beers, which we both agreed were swill.
I ordered a salad with salmon, which our extraordinarily sweet waitress told me was a bad idea. Under her guidance I ended up with the salad and tilapia. For brew pub food, the fish was actually excellent. Tilapia is not known for it's flavor, but whatever they did to it was magic. My husband's burger wasn't anything fancy, but it hit the spot as well.
All in all a decent place to have dinner in Moab. The beer isn't anything to write home about, but the food was surprisingly good and the staff was very nice.
- This place has a variety of food including chicken, burgers, pasta, steaks, fish... and a great variety of vegetarian and vegan options
- Good beer: I tried the Dead Horse Amber Ale. Microbrewery on site.
- Shiraz wine was really good
- Margarita chicken, Greek pasta and Pesto pasta were all delicious.
- Our server was really nice and even took our leftover chicken home for his dog Jake! Too cute!
- Definitely one of the best restaurants in town
- Go to the little gelato stand on the way out for some gelato! Not as good as it is in Italy, but still yummy!
The place was packed when we arrived. In retrospect, I don't understand why. We came back on a week night and waited about 30 minutes. The large retail part at the front of the store should have been a tip-off. This is a tourist destination for sure.
Normally I'd expect a brewery to have OK food and decent beer. The food was not impressive. The chicken was overcooked, the tri-tip was dry; at least the fish tacos were OK. The beer was disappointing. The stout was rather thin and lacking in flavor. The hefeweizen was a slight improvement on Coors Light, but hey at least they gave us a lemon. The Lizard Ale was light and refreshing as advertised. Our friend ordered a glass of white wine that could have come straight from a Capri sun pouch.
The stout beer was mediocre at best, the gelato is a pass (probably the worst gelato I've ever tried), and the pumpkin soup with bacon was a thick jizz-like substance with way too much chewy bacony bits. The place is decorated with unoriginal camping and outdoor crap tacked onto the wall and ceiling, which leaves you hoping that the engineers who installed that heavy raft up on the ceiling above your head did their math correctly. The only saving grace was the gazpacho salad (the jalapeno cornbread is ok, but the chipotle butter is addicting), decent enough service, and the ability to sit and be served rather quickly.
Hooray for free samples! We were detained before entering the brewery to partake in free spoonfuls of gelato. The service was friendly and helpful from start (gelato) to finish (want dessert? no thanks, had it before dinner); nobody seemed to mind that we were tourists passing through in need of a beer. Rather, our waitress went out of her way trying to find a local map for us!
We shared the Jalapeño Cornbread as an appetizer, and I had the Jack Daniel's burger. Everything went really well with a beer, which is to say that the food had a bit of kick to it. I tried the Porcupine Pilsner, which is notable for not tasting like much of anything. This made it great for washing down the burger, but I wouldn't dedicate an evening of drinking to this brew. I enjoyed the comfortable dining experience; it's comfort food with comfort brews, which is exactly what a weary traveler needs after a day of hiking in Arches!
The place itself was very large, but it was divided into different sections of seating that made you feel cozy once you were actually seated. The selection of beer looked great, which made me sad that I had time to try only one. I'd love to come back and check out their other selections.
Very large place, but with tables arranged so that it feels homey. Probably needs more parking; cars were waiting for our spot when we left--on a Thursday night.
Disappointed with the brews here. It advertises itself as "Utah's only microbrewery and restaurant," which is a flat lie (although it probably helps attract the tourists). I tried the Black Raven Oatmeal Stout and Porcupine Pilsner, which were both disappointingly bland renditions of these styles (the Pils was thin and didn't have much of the floral hop taste as you'd expect--like a macro, really--and the oatmeal stout was almost a single roasted note). It's not the liquor laws either; other Utah breweries squeeze a lot of flavor into 4% abv. Later, we picked up some Dead Horse Amber Ale from the local grocery store. That was similarly meh, but it was strangely bottled by a brewery in Montana. As a brew pub, this is 2 stars on a good day. Will probably have the root beer if I ever come back.
That said, it was a solid restaurant. Not too expensive given the Californians crawling all over Moab. Not spectacular food, but generous potions of American staples. I was very happy with my reuben for $7.59. The jalapeno corn bread was drier and less spicy than I hoped. I wouldn't order extra if it comes with one of your party's meal; needs to be shared to be finished.
It also sells souvenirs, but that's not rare in Moab.
I've only been here once, I did take out, and I didn't try one of they brews, so take this review with a grain of salt.
I ordered a salad and chicken dish to go. I arrived on time to pick it up and waited for one whole, ridiculous hour for them to get around filling my order. The food was ok, but nothing special. The ice cream brownie, for celebrating my girlfriend's birthday, was melted. The cornbread cold. Just mediocre.
Here's the best part. There's a mandatory 18% gratuity for take out. A mandatory gratuity for take out! Are you kidding me? This was because "the price of materials have gone up." What a joke.
Everyone else seems to have had different experiences but I wouldn't chance a special occasion here and I'm certainly never going back.
my bf and i were staying the night at the KOA that is near by. we asked the workers which restaurant they recommended. they said this one so we tried it.
the parking area is small. we were seated right away. our drink order was taken right away. the waitress came by and asked us if we were ready, we were not but we got an app. which was a baked potato with veggies. so our app came out but....to our surprise we didnt have utensils or naps. like 10 mins later the girl came by and asked what was wrong with the potato cuz we werent eating. and well...lady, we had nothing to eat with!...we would have asked for the untensils but no one was around. we finally got them and the potato was good :) so she felt bad that she decided to give us dessert on the house.
my bf and i both ordered a burger. the burgers were fine. he got one of the light brews and he said that it was ok but not great. as for the dessert we got a brownie with ice cream. it wasnt all that.
i would probably eat at a different place next time im around town.
After hiking the double-O arch trail (recommended) we sported some serious red dirt tans and headed to the Moab Brewery for a refreshments. We had the Dead Horse Ale and the Scorpion Pale Ale. As far as beer goes - nothing overwhelmingly special, but better that BUD. The menu is typical bar fare and decently priced.
In general, this place doesn't really offer anything outstanding. The inside decor is a bit lacking, and our bar tender looked like the last place he wanted to be was tending bar, luckily his shift ended ans someone more attentive replaced him. As far as Moab goes - sure, grab a beer. But after visiting New Belgium in Fort Collins, I have to admit it's like comparing the dollar store to Macy's.
We came back for the deserts tonight but were so stuffed with good food that we failed to achieve our mission :(.
Oh well: what we did discover was that our first visit was not a fluke. We tried two other of their beers, the Derailleur Ale and the Elephant Hill Hefeweizen; both good.
None of the beers have much foam carbonation to them, so are maybe a bit flatter than a commercial beer.
The Hummus appy was good with sun-dried tomatoes and apparently fresh hummus that might have stood more garlic, but it was still a very nice starter.
The special was a Shrimp Pene that was very nicely seasoned with large juicy shrimp. The Rainbow Tortellini was really good. The two Texas Pit Smoked entrees (Chicken and Combo) were each large. The chicken as 1/2 a large chicken and their onion rings were as good as ever. The chicken, tri-tip and Ribs on my Combo were very dry (1/4 chicken breast and wing), excellent (tender juicy), and superb respectively. The ribs were perfectly smoked; juicy and meaty--some of the best I've had recently.
Fries on my combo were good but not great.
The Cole Slaw was very good but maybe could have been a larger portion to balance the huge meat portions, but that's nitpicking.
We had more than enough to eat and then take home for leftovers.
Service was very very good and a real pleasure (thanks AJ).
All in all, a real feast and for not too much for 4 people (about $85 with drinks and before tip).
Definitely on our list of Moab places to return to.

Nice place to go and enjoy a top-notch craft brew. My 5 stars is based solely on the beer as I didn't have dinner there, but the food did look tasty. There was a wait for restaurant seating, which usually means it's good. Laid back atmosphere, and a good place to ask around about area outdoor adventures (whitewater rafting, skydiving, etc.). There was a gelato shop outside the entrance (a separate entity from the brewery, but somehow connected) that we enjoyed thoroughly! Bourbon vanilla & blood orange both very good! Perfect thing on a hot night.
I know for a fact it's happy hour on Tuesday nights with cheep beer and hot wings. 5 -7 maybe. Great beer and good food otherwise.
This is one of the most enjoyable places to drink and eat in Moab. The food selection is fun and wide-ranging and the portions are great.
What's more, the staff is outstanding. Whether one is sampling the microbrews in the bar or eating in the restaurant, the staff takes obvious pride in doing its best to ensure customers enjoy themselves.
While some microbreweries offer less-than-appealing beers, the Moab Brewery has some outstanding options. The beer flights are a great way to try them all.
I came here once while on a mountain biking trip, and even totally starving foudn the food to be sort of average.
I had the Salmon wrap which was cold and the wrap tasted like it came out of the refrigerator without warming it up. My friends got burgers which I tried and were pretty average.
I think a similar experience could be had at Denny's minus all the decorative mountain bikes.
I have no idea how people could be giving Moab Brewey's burgers a thumbs up. The burger patty is reminiscent of the kind of compressed meat that you get in school cafeteria burgers. Which is really interesting actually, since I've never encountered that low grade institutional flavor in a large restaurant-style size before.
To be fair, I thought their fiery furnace buffalo wings were quite decent buffalo wings. The beer wasn't bad either.
Nothing to write home about. The place is very loud and the food just so-so.
The beers are quality and after a full day of hiking, I'm not drunk from one beer (thanks 3.2).
Definitely NOT the best place in Moab.
This was our decompression spot after mountain biking and hiking around moab and canyonlands. We cooked at our campsites but came here for the appetizers (hummus plate is large and in charge, aka delicious) and of course, the beer. The hefeweizen isn't very remarkable but the dead horse ale and derailleur ale are very good.
Place is very large, plenty of room in the bar area if you are just walking in with friends or just want a beer and snacks. Service was really attentive and wasn't too crowded, but I went in the summer which is actually the off-season.
Boyfriend and I went here tonight, although the 3.5 stars should have warned us away. We decided on the calamari as an appetizer, beer cheese soup and caeser salad, and the blackened tilapia with chipotle tomato cream penne. The calamari was heavily battered, and while the sauce was pleasant, it too was thick and heavy tasting. I wish I could say it got better, but unfortunately the caeser salad was overdone with subpar dressing, the beer cheese soup was salty and overly seasoned, and the sauce on the pasta was so spicy that it overpowered what could have been a good creamy tomato alfredo.
We also tried the beer sampler - a few were decent, but not good enough to buy a Growler as we previously planned.
Service seems to be hit or miss here as well, as our server seemed to forget about us several times.
Maybe their burgers are better, and I don't expect too much from seafood in the middle of the desert, but the desserts looked monstrous, sticking with the huge portions theme. If you want just basic chain "American" food, then this isn't your worst option. Bill came out to about $40 before tip.
Main dishes are ok, vegies tend to be frozen slop.
There was a wait for the dining tables, so we hung out in the bar... only to be told we could order from the full menu there: SOLD.
Beer wasn't bad (so I'm told), root beer was nice and the food was good.
Service was excellent.
Spent a couple days in Moab with my wife and teenage kids and ate at this place twice. We returned for dinner after having a very satisfying lunch the previous day. Lunch review - I had a seered yellowfin tuna sandwich on a bun that really hit the spot. The tuna was done just right; seered on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. My son (the cheese-a-vore) had a chicken quesadilla that was loaded with chicken and cheese with a tomato and olive-laced salsa on the side. The only thing that we didn't like at lunch was the potato and bacon soup. It was a little heavy on the salt and a little too thick although the thickness could have been due to the late hour of our lunch.
Dinner review - we weren't very hungry so we ordered a couple appetizers and a salad. The sweet and hot Thai calamari was very good. Unfortunately, we couldn't seem to taste the crab or artichoke in the Crap and Artichoke dip. We also had the chicken and almond salad and found it to be very good. The produce was fresh and it wasn't over dressed. The overall highlight for me was the beer. This place has some great brews. My kids raved about the root beer and orange creme soda on tap.
Service and lunch and dinner was very good. The food came up quickly and the waiter/waitress checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed.
This is the "IT" spot on a Friday and Saturday night. Also the place most people regroup to after a long bike ride for delicious beer on tap.
Friendly service, fun atmosphere, great basic food.
Any time you walk into an establishment that is playing Pink Floyd, you know you are in for an experience. Located in the heart of the valley that houses Moab, UT, Moab Brewery offers the epitome of the spirit of the community. In the Bar, you are likely to find those who fly the planes for skydivers, lead the whitewater raft tours, hikes, bikes, climbs... anything you could imagine you'd do in a city that is built on adventure tourism.
But don't let the flash and flair distract you. There is the local brewed Dead Horse Ale (a favorite), along with several other reputable brews. In addition to the beverages, there are the multitude of eats that will satisfy the most inquisitive of tastes. My personal fave is the green chile burrito (Chile Verde Burrito). Served with a spectacular vegetarian chile, this is one dish that rivals my mom's best. The burgers are okay, and won't disappoint, but the burrito is not a dish to be taken lightly.
While the service can be a little on the shakey side during the busiest times of season and day, the food and drink more than makes up for any deficits.
This stop is a must when braving the community that seems to know no television, but only outdoor fun. If you are ever in southeastern Utah, you absolutely must stop by, and give this place a try.
Nice casual option for a local brew.
This brewery was super crowded on a Friday night - had to circle a few times to find parking, but am so glad I did.
Typical 'American' food, but everything tasted good. I especially liked the onion rings. The server was very attentive.
I would definitely go back next time I'm in Moab!
Went with a group of friends and we all got something different from black bean soup to fish taco's. We tried a beer sampler and I actually took a pic of it from above and put it on canvas.....One of my best mementos from this trip. Food tasted very fresh. Would go back. Prices were not bad at all.
I dont remember this place having anything memorable to eat. But, at the same time I dont remember it being terrible either.
This seemed to me to be just like every other place in Colorado or Utah, steak and chicken being the options, strictly american food. Perhaps being from California spoils you.
this place changed my mind about pub food. i had a salmon wrap; the portion is humongous because i had enough for dinner and breakfast the next day. it was tasty. their salsa is spicy and yummy; i requested extras. i am not a beer person but i really like their wheat beer. the staff is really fast and friendly.
Great microbrewed root beer!
I live in California and went on a road trip to Utah, Durango, CO the up thru Utah and LV to LA then back home to San Jose in 2003 and this was one of the highlights of the trip. They had great food, great atmosphere, great beer and great service. I guess I can't say enough about this place. We all bought a t-shirt and still proudly wear them.
I have to admit this place started the "have to hit a microbrewery" mentality I now have when I go to a new town because I was so impressed by their food selection and ambiance. Long live the beer sampler!
I must also say this - we loved the root beer so much we bought a jug of it to go. We brought it home and had it for a couple special occasions - once by itself and once in a root beer float. I can't wait to go back and have more root beer from this place.
Only had beers and chips there, but food looked good and the help was great. I think we got a particularly pleasant, young waitress, but the joint was jumping and she still took good care of us. I'd probably go with pub food, vs. anything fancy, but good place.
6-25-08 Came here for dinner, the parking lot was full and the service was great. This place is a sports bar like place, a little noisy and fun.
Three out of our of us had the BBQ ribs and liked it. Decent amount of meat, tender and moist with a slightly sweet sauce on the ribs. $17 for a 1/2 rack $22 for a full rack. My friends ordered the beer sampler about $14 for 8 2-3 oz glasses of beer and ale, the middle one the Dead Horse was the favorite.
My Dad goes to Moab every year biking with a bunch of his guy friends. One year for x-mas I got him a Moab map on a bandanna from this place (that he loves loves loves). Great deal and the people were really nice...even though they mailed it to the wrong addresses (grand rapids instead of grand marais) so it didn't end up arriving in time for the holiday.
Best onion rings ever. They use some kind of beer batter and the onions are sweet. Get them as your side.
Also, they have sweet potato fries, which are not on the menu, for some reason.
More of a family restaurant environment versus what I expect for a brewery. The food was just OK and the beer was mediocre. I try to visit local breweries everywhere I visit. This one can be skipped.
If you can, go to Durango (a few hours away) and try Streamworks. Good food and the Steam Engine Lager is amazing.
This place is totally rad. After rockcrawling all day, and welding the rigs back together, this place is a welcome site. They have some great burgers and wait staff is usually super chill. Also, they have off road videos playing (during jeep safari) while you wait! I mean, I couldn't come up with a better way to wait for my table! I can't wait to go back!!!
Busy restaurant, but no wait for us. The beer wasn't bad, but the darker stuff wasn't tasting right (Drailleur Ale). Scorpion ale was better. The nachos were awesome, the came with a side of sauce, kind of a soup, for dipping your nachos in. We had burgers, they were good, not great.
The waiters here were all male, not used to seeing that. Some of them looked like they were on some kind of work release program. Our waiter was friendly and fast. I guess being from LA, I'm just used to all the out of work actors and actresses serving me food.
The prices were reasonable.
The service can be slow as molasses and sometimes the wait to get a table is just as long. The beer is mediocre, as is the food. I much preferred a nice micobrew at McStiff's.
Ortega burger was killer! Onion rings were HUGE. Ask for a side of "beer cheese" for dipping and you'll be happy you read this review. The beer was surprisingly NOT as good as I hoped.. the 4 I tried each left a lot to be desired
Sweet heaven.
Service was ok. Took about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us after we were seated. I had a fish taco which I wouldn't recommend. Tasted like one of the frozen fish fillets from the store tossed into a cheap crispy taco shell. Toss in some shredded radishes and you'd have my fish taco. My wife had a chicken wrap which was better, but is probably not going to knock your socks off. On the plus side, the pitcher of beer (it's in Utah so don't expect anything too great) was a good deal.
