Simply put, the 10 week body sculpt class will kick your ass and you will want more.
Before I joined I was in a bit of a funk. Usually I would work out at home in the early morning before I went to work. But the last couple months I've been extremely lazy. This also means I've been getting extremely fat too.
I joined the 10 week body scupt class not quite knowing what to expect. For one hour a day, five days a week for 10 weeks you really push your body to the limits. During the class you are cursing at yourself wondering why the hell you are here then at the end of class and during the day you feel proud.
For three days you do cardio which includes boxing (you get a pair of gloves when you join), kickboxing, sticks, and different combinations. Two days are strength training where you do a lot of push-ups, sit-ups, squats and work with resistance bands and weights.
They also help you track your progress by measurements and tests. I admit, I haven't been too good about my diet but I can still see and feel the results as my pants get looser. Seriously awesome.
I am going to take this 10-week body sculping class again in fall. I will be more strict with my diet so I can get my body ready for...winter. There are some other classes other than the body sculpt class that look interesting. I may try them sometime.
A tip: Don't workout after a night of drinking. It's like the trainers sense it and will punish you for it.

I trained here for 2 years and had a blast with my wife. We learned a tremendous amount in a relaxed environment. I thought was great that they had a diverse set of classes at many hours for every skill level. There were helpful instructors and the classes were well run, organized and consistent. They also train from within frequently and have a path for good students to become teachers as well.
There are no belts yes, but there is a level and testing program so that there is healthy competition and students continue to strive for more and not get complacent. This is a great place to get introduced to mixed martial arts from striking to stick fighting but you can also build up to more advanced sparring and even point competitions. Moreover, MKG has what I've seen in few places schools that combine disciplines and that is respect. They have respect for each art and each other They show this from the moment you step onto the floor and when you greet each other in class.
I personally think the Muay Thai instruction was the best part for me there. I got great instruction and the kickboxing gave me the strong foundation for my future MMA endeavors. The only things that did not work for me as much were the tests and added pressure to participate in other events and carry higher level responsibilities. This is not a bad thing but I just wanted less of that after my karate years. I would highly recommend to anyone seeking a safe, fun, comprehensive view of the best martial arts and self defense systems. -

I just had my first class and was impressed by the fun classes they had to offer. The phase classes combine several different martial arts that give you an all around workout and handle on real self defense moves.
I strongly encourage people to give it a try if they are bored with the same old routines at the gym and want a fun way to meet new people and get a great workout. All the instructors and upper levels students are super nice and encouraging.
Despite the smaller space, it allows enough room to get the most out of each class. The coordinate the class times and open gym time to allow for optimal space. All the instructors are willing to stay longer and help you work on things even far after the class is done with.
I am very excited to continue my classes and see the results further down the line. -

I signed up for their Total Body Workout last Fall, and I went religiously for the first couple of weeks. It totally kicked my ass. Then I decided I like the muscle work days with Ren the most and just did those with one kickboxing day thrown in. That was still getting me to workout three days a week which, for me, was good (ah, I miss the old days in LA when we'd go for two hours every day......). Anyway, I learned to dread the kickboxing days but other people loved them. It's really a personal preference. It's awesome if you're really motivated.
If you're super self-competitive, this program is great. If you're a lazy ass, like me these days, start off with something a little more low-key. -

yeah pretty much this place is RAD (yeah thats right I'm bringing rad back).
If you are looking for a martial art where you kick and punch other people a lot or learn fancy 'forms' this is not the place. If you are looking to learn how to defend yourself and get a kick ass work out I highly recommend checking out MKG. As far as I know they still have a free trial lesson. Check it out you wont regret it.
Also a great way to let off some steam as you spend plenty of time hitting and kicking bags (not people). -

I am currently enrolled in the 10 week body sculpt challenge, and I love it. I absolutely SUCK at all things gym related. Even as far back as high school, I did better in group classes then on my own as an individual. Maybe its a mob mentality, I dunno.
After sitting on my ass for a few months with no gym/workout routine, I decided to give MKG's class a try and its been great. I go to class, and every night is something different. My favorite has to be the strength training classes with JR. I love them, and hate them at the same time. I hate them because they hurt, and I LOVE them because they hurt. I have never sweated so much in my life!
If youre like me, and you haven't been able to start and keep a fitness routine, MKG can help, and if anything get you kick started. Or you never know, you might be like me, and end up wanting to sign up for session after session because its the most productive thing you do with your day.
Helpful Note: Before signing up, they offer a trial night. If you want a really clear idea of what you're getting yourself into, its advisable to attend that class. You are usually in a class with people in their 6-8th week or so, so its moderately harder than the classes in the beginning. -

I'd like to thank the Body Sculpt Challenge for helping me reduce my carbon ass-print! I started taking the challenge courses in January of this year and have lost vast quantities of weight and have muscles in my arms and legs THAT I CAN SEE!!
The instructors are motivating, the gym is no drama or egos allowed, and the punching and kicking make me happy! I've never felt so sure that I was going to accomplish all that I had set out to do. This gym changed my life and I can't thank them enough. WOO HOO MKG!!! -

This is a great martial arts gym. They do a mixture of different styles and have legitimate credentials in everything they teach. You can really see this in the quality of the instruction. It seemed that the mix of the main classes was weighted more towards Muay Thai, but there were plenty of classes to choose from that weren't. If you want conditioning, the Muay Thai specific classes are great for that.
I didn't take the body sculpt class, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. It seems like a great class for people who aren't interested or ready to join an actual martial arts class, and it provides a great introduction for people who go on to join the regular part of the school. The one thing I liked that I saw was that people in the body sculpt class learned real techniques. Often in cardio-kickboxing type classes, the techniques are crap. Great for moving fast and getting into shape, but horrible if you want decent fighting techniques.
The school is on the expensive side, but if you have the time to dedicate to it, there seems to be an almost limitless buffet of different styles and skills to learn and perfect. -

What a great place! I LOVE their new location accross from the Northgate Mall.
I am in my second Body sculpting class and I'm feeling fantastic!
Nicole is so wonderful putting the class together and the teachers are all different so you get different work out every day.
I am very thankful that they are there but it's YOU that has to put the work in every day to make it worth it.
Thanks again MKG! -

I love MKG. They're right on when they say that they are a relaxed atmosphere with no egos where one can truly learn.
I have always liked martial arts and have appreciated not just the defense and strike aspects, but the philosophy, form and discipline behind them. MKG Seattle does, too.
They emphasize safety, respect, education and commitment. The instructors and staff are cool. The students are, for the most part, just regular people who want to pick up useful skills while working out.
As for me, I am learning. I am doing. Therefore, I am happy. -

Seattle's branch of the Minnesota Kali Group is a fantastic place to try out, learn, or train hard in mixed martial arts. With a diverse curriculum focusing on Muay Thai kickboxing, Jan Fan, Kali weaponry, Panantukan, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, combat submission wrestling, boxing and more, MKG has something for everyone.
If you have ever been interested in trying out some form of martial arts but have been overwhelmed by the vast number of disciplines or intimidated by the possibility of stepping into a room full of blood splattered cage fighters, MKG is a great place to quell the anxiety. The school has a very intelligent entry program with fabulous instructors, a diverse array of students, and once the dye has set, the sky is the limit for anyone wanting to expand their abilities. -

I've been training here for about 8 years now (with a two year hiatus while in the Bay). As someone who readily got bored of running the same trails, listening to the same Ipod, and as someone who was deathly afraid of any type of gym equipment, I looked up MKG.
In the interest of full disclosure, at the time I was a huge fan of Bruce Lee and I wanted to learn some "cool moves". MKG is a great change of place to the 24 Hour Fitnesses, Curves, or Gold's. There are an array of Martial Art and fitness classes to choose from at all times of the day. Each one has their own special focus, but all will get you working up a sweat.
The no judgement, no ego vibe is great! Watch as bartenders, moms, students, artists, doormen, accountants, chiropractors, and teachers (moi), train with each other.
Now stop yelping and go work out! -

Now it is been 6 months since i started my first class. Although i always wanted to do martial arts, it took me years to take my first step through the door. I was not feeling confident at the beginning since i am generally not good at cardio and was not sure if i could kick at all.
This is a great place because both students and instructors are very friendly and trying to teach you martial arts. and not only physically but also mentally. You learn a lot of different martial arts (even as a beginner) and each of them give you a different skill which you get to use.
There are also lots of seminars, trainings, celebrations and community building activities.
Usually i do have a hard time committing to something but as i said I have being going here 2-3 times a week for the last 6 months and i am plannning to go. -

Let me say, right up front:
I SUCK at sports.
Call it what you will; lack of coordination, poor reflexes and physical strength, I wasn't potty trained right, whatever.
I've made my peace with this over the years. Big spaz that I am however I've spent a long time looking for something to burn off excess energy that's healthier for me than wondering aimlessly around the city smoking and muttering to myself.
Then my roommate started taking kick-boxing classes in an effort, I believe, to meet boys. Anything that would get her out of bed before noon was frankly awe inspiring, so I thought I'd check it out.
The staff over at MKG recommend that you start with the mixed arts class. Its an hour long buffet of exercises and techniques offered most days in day and evening classes.
The first one I went too turned me into a runny stain on the floor.
I knew I was un-coordinated, but not that un-coordinated. I knew I lacked stamina, but not that much stamina, etc...
I am however a prideful bastard, so I stuck it out for a month while I thought of excuses I could use to back out gracefully (The best I could come up with was to fake a stroke during class).
Then the amazing thing happened: I started to get better.
This Is why MKG works. The staff works on developing core attributes by getting you to focus on what your body is doing. Want to develop stamina; do triple kicks for two-minutes. After some classes I would walk out into the cool evening drenched in sweat and shaky limbed from exertion and seriously felt that I had accomplished something.
I still pretty much suck at sports, but not as much as I did. Who can say about tomorrow? -

A great place to work out- excellent instructors, good mix of students. A good mix of work outs keeps it interesting. Staff is very motivational and positive. No egos or that sort of stuff that makes a typical gym a turn off. Moving to a bigger space soon- should be a plus!

I went and check-out their free intro. class a while back. My old kung-fu place closed, and if it wasn't for trying to raise a family in Seattle on a single-income, I'd be back there in heart-beat. Martial arts training ain't cheap, but this place seemed to have good instructors and a great no-nonsense vibe. Plus they did a lot of stuff my old gym did (non-traditional kung fu-y kickboxing stick fighting ground fighting stuff).
