Come hither from the cracks on the pages of your books, poor and hungry students. Forget the rich LV-covered girls whose daddies pay for Butcher & Singer birthday parties. Your sushi doesn't come more affordable than at Mizu.
My friend once had a holiday party with some catered Mizu. We drank and ate and didn't break our wallets, hooray!
Dear Mizu,
Thank you for making brown rice vegetarian maki rolls. I love brown rice, and you make them fast and fairly fresh, and not all that expensive. And you've made me some nice and fairly priced catering trays. You're A-OK.
I give Mizu four stars based on the fact that it's sushi in Philadelphia. You have to be grateful for what you have. And for all those who would decry: "What about Buddakan and the like", my repost would be: "why needst I spend house and home for satisfying sushi?" 'Sides, Buddakan ain't worth the money no matter how you shake it.
Mizu also offers the convenience of a ten-minute walk as well as the potential for delivery. But down to brass tacks.
Edamame was decent. Not too salty. Warm. About as flavorful as edamame can be.
The sushi. We had spicy tuna [which was really spicy], Spider Roll and a roll called, "American Dream". What they consisted of is less important than they were good. So for three good-sized rolls, two miso soups, to Aloe vera soft drinks and edamame bringing the bill to $50 even with tax and tip, I have to say it was worth. A bit more than worth it. And at a time when dining out in Philly continues to heavily disappoint, this was a pleasant surprise.
Ugh. This is not good. It's not really a real sushi restaurant - maybe it works as a takeout lunch place. I went for dinner and they don't even have beer or sake. Most importantly, this fish is not good. I am not the biggest sushi snob either - I like cheap sushi, I like expensive sushi, I like it all, as long as it's not BAD. I would happily live on a desert island with a fishing pole and sharp knife. I don't need fire. Cold raw fish, yum!
If this is the best sushi you have ever eaten, you really should try a little harder. I am really scared now to try Nara since this place is supposed to be so much better. Frightening!
Good price for the sushi, fast delivery and beats out Nara any day.
Just beware -- you leave the place smelling like tempura, and it's also a very small establishment.
(vegetarian / vegan review)
Went here for lunch with a friend, and was glad that I did. The service was friendly, the seaweed salad (which I ordered based on the recommendation of a fellow Yelper) was quite good, and the veggie roll that I ordered was satisfying and tasty, although not sensational. In all, this was a good experience, and I'm sure I'll be coming back.
Dirt cheap and surprisingly good.
I normally get take-out from here since it's relatively close and open until 10. Everything is always good. Nothing spectacular, but $10 for a filling meal is nothing to complain about.
The only problem; they won't deliver to my house.
I enjoyed their veggie sushi options at pretty decent prices. Their spicy mayo is a little more spicy than I'm used to, and a little more pricey at .50 cents for each extra 2 tablespoon container you ask for but hey, that's sushi life. :p My friend inhaled her creative maki rolls (with fish) she absolutely loved them, and I must admit, they looked mighty tasty. Overall, a good sushi experience, I would go here again.
I love this little sushi place! I've been to the one in West Philly. Service is very friendly and the sushi is VERY affordable. Absolutely worth a visit if you're craving sushi.
Mizu is small and charming, but doesn't seem to stand out in any way. It is not going out of your way for. I'd like to give a specific recommendation but all of their choices are so middle-of-the-road that they don't stick out. They have a tempura-ized roll caled the Downtown Roll(If I remember Correctly)- that one is pretty good.
Nice cheap fresh sushi. Easy setup and quick. Not much else to say, but that it is a solid bet.
Wow. Before coming here, I've never had good sushi. At Mizu, the seaweed salad is actually green and not a murky brownish green! The sushi is prepared when you order it. I still cant get over it.
please don't be mistaken by thinking this is a sushi place. mizu is great for california rolls (hence the two stars) but nothing else.
on top of this, one time i waited over two hours for delivery when they said 45 min.
i have found mizu's sushi to be good, not excellent. however, the prices are excellent. also, considering the other option in west philly, nara, this is a winner.
cheap, mediocre sushi. good miso soup.
