Review Highlights
Confession - We hadn't been to Miyagi's since well... Truman was president and the Spice Girls were all the rage and Jesus walked (literally).
Second confession - we only tried Miyagi's after checking out Bar Marmont and realized they've shuttered their "Bailout" happy hour deals - despite our "We're still in a recession, please baby!" plea.
Miyagi's is a nice enough pan-Asian-themed Sunset Strip bar-restaurant. Their happy hour deal is good - 2-for-1 on all drinks and select food items from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Their signature drinks are fruity, frothy, and strong. We had the Rainbow Skittle and Blue Lagoon - both tasty slices of summer! The Rainbow Skittle was made of Malibu rum, amaretto, peach schnapps, melon liqueur, & cranberry juice. The Blue Lagoon included Malibu rum, stoli, triple sec, blue curacao, sweet & sour, and pineapple juice. Sweet drinks, but not complaining. Have read some complaints about the food, but the tofu eggrolls and chicken potstickers we tried were perfect bar-food dinner. The menu was a bit confusing, being that our menus has conflicting serving sizes, but our server did answer any of our questions.
The ambience is okay - though the east side of the strip is pretty quiet, especially at this time of day on a weeknight. Staff is friendly, albeit a little slow - there seemed to be two people working and the bartender (though helpful) smoked on the patio next to us. We did appreciate our waitress coming around for a happy hour last call. The crowd is a mix - other patrons included a loud group who seemed to get quieter the more Rainbow Skittles they drank(!), a mother and her two sons (?), and a couple sets of friends and dates. This location could be a lot of fun with the right mix of people.
This is one of those that should really be zero stars, but the system doesn't allow that.
I had been to Miyagi's about six years ago and had a decent experience. Someone in our group was a friend, of a friend, of someone who worked there, etc... The rolls were expensive, but were thick - about 2 1/2 inches in diameter and the service was decent since we "knew" this mysterious someone.
Jump to present day, and Miyagi's is on http://Restaurant.com, so I go for it. The experience was so miserable that I feel the need to bullet point the problems:
1. We didn't have cash on us, but the parking folks were not courteous enough to wait for us to finish our meal and pay when we came out. The only option was to pull cash from Miyagi's "conveniently located" ATM and pay the fee, since the restaurant was also not courteous enough to get you cash back on your card/dinner check. Also - $10 for parking is a little outrageous, especially when the lot is for your customers rather than general parking.
2. We stood in the entry for (no exaggeration) over 10 minutes before anyone bothered to take notice of us. At least three employees walked back and forth past us, multiple times, as if we weren't even there. Not even a "Hi, we'll be with you in a moment."
3. Service was very slow. It took a while for anyone to come back and ask for our order, and we were constantly having to ask to have our drinks refilled when they were empty.
4. We ordered 3 sushi rolls and all of them were a disappointment. The quality/taste was only ok and the rolls were much smaller than before (about 1 1/2 inch diameter). In general judged each roll to be priced at about $4 more than they would be anywhere else (priced at $13-$14).
5. The waitress came back once to ask how everything was, and then left before we could actually answer. She tried to do that a second time and, when she had only managed to take two steps, I piped up to note my list of issues: "Actually, it's not going so well. When we got here we had to wait 10 minutes before anyone even noticed us...." That's as far as I got before she interrupted me, "Sorry, I'm the only waitress on right now." and walked away. ?!?!?!!!
6. As if the attitude in #5 wasn't bad enough, I then looked around me and counted. There were 11 tables seated. Granted, one of them was a party of 10, but HALF of the tables were couples. A decent section, but not at all overwhelming for one person to cover! Plus, the bartender was walking the floor taking her own drink orders, and the food was bring delivered and bussed by two other people.
Three moderate-quality sushi rolls and two diet cokes came to a total of $67 (before the http://restaurant.com certificate or gratuity). This is the first time I can ever remember being pissed off that an 18% gratuity is mandatory when using a http://Restaurant.com certificate! If I'm going to pay that much, plus $10 for parking, I expect a MUCH higher quality experience than what I received.
I was still hungry, but didn't want to give them any more business. I ended up going down the street to Carney's and was, strangely enough, treated much better for my $6 order of a hot dog and frozen banana (with free parking).
It really re-emphasized why I leave Sunset to the tourists!
DAMN. This place AIN'T what it used to be. You used to be able to come here and valet for $3.00, get cheap drinks and dinner (Mondays were AYCE) and the sushi was good quality with a lot of interesting specialty rolls. If you stuck around after dinner, the three stories turned into a huge club and it was a lot of fun and the drinks were decently priced.
Lately it's hit-or-miss. Some good days, some bad. Once, the service was so bad that we complained to the manager who came over and generously gave me his business card with "two house drinks" written on it... only if we came back on Wednesday.
Fail.
Two for one Happy Hour!
But, the sake we ordered was $30 a bottle unbeknownst to us.
So, sushi was $30 and sake was $30. Not bad for Hollywood. The sushi isn't incredible, but the ambience is fun, and we were in walking distance from our hotel.
I remember when this place was bursting at the seams and I never had the desire to try to worm my way in to try it. That's when times were good. Tonite it was so dead, so of course, I'm there. Why? The bartender was reading the newspaper on the customer side of the bar. There were only 2 parties there on the patio other than Fatty & myself.
We came here last night to get a snack, have some sake to continue the buzz we had acquired from beer pong, and then to bar-hop.
We ordered the house hot sake, a spicy tuna roll, and a Mainlander roll that was a California roll with seared albacore. The food was alright. Service was the good kind of service where all this attention is lavished up you when a place is deserted or when it's between prime times. But this was Saturday night at 11pm.
I felt sort of bad for the people working there.
Miyagi's, I crown thee with these piteous 3 stars. To quote your optimistic door man, it should get better.
Back in the days... (as everyone seems to be starting off their reviews) In 2001, at the age of 18, not old enough to legally drink, I used to come here for a yummy dinner with my boyfriend who was 21 and then stay until the top floor turned into the dance area... Miyagi's was my go to place. The crowd was Hot, the environment was great, drinks strong, music bumpin... Miyagi's had it going on!
BUT then I came back a while ago, and expected to indulge in a little nostalgia and was sorely disappointed. Our server was really nice, but Miyagi's was seriously DOA! From the moment we valeted the car and stepped inside, it was dead! I haven't been back since, but I can tell from the reviews not much has changed. I really really hope they get new management so someone can resuscitate Miyagis back to it's glorious life.
Yea, it's almost a year since I moved to LA and my first ride down Sunset I remember seeing all the fancy bars and restaurants the celebs must frequent. One of those establishments I specifically remember looking at and saying to myself, "That place must be a major hot spot and REALLY expensive!" Well, that place happened to be Miyagi's. I didn't know what the place was called until I met a friend there one Friday night for Karaoke. It was pretty nice inside, but for a Friday at 10pm I wondered why it was so empty.
It's clean and all but the menu is sorta' pricy and the sushi was just O.K.-meaning I like my philadelphia roll wrapped in the rice like most places, not wrapped with a half salmon cutlet. Drinks are same as any other place but the bartenders should do better at keeping the bar clean. OH, and why were two young girls going around trying to sell us colorful paintings that you find in a dollar store or an old Armenian person's home??? That annoyed me-to know an establishment would allow that to happen...in my opinion, I think it was part of the management's plan to try and get some extra $ in. I dunno! Anyway, I'll end it here...this place is good if you wanna get some stage practice and learn to work a crowd. PS-some of the karaoke regulars can get a little scary...I'm JUST saying!
Great vibe on a saturday night. Good food. It does get crowded but I only have good memories here.
A street so bustling with night life like Sunset, I was surprised to stumble into Miyagi's and find it so dead.
I had heard about its glory days from my cousin. Its amazing what a few 4-5 years will do to a place!
I went on a Thursday night when they were having a karoake night.
The crowd was very mixed. Mostly older people I'd say.
Drink prices was around $10 for my AMF.
I knew it wasn't a crowded night because the whole bottom floor was closed off.
I also didn't like the girl's bathroom. It was cramped and gross!
I did enjoy watching people make a fool out of themselves singing.
I can't believe they charge that much for drinks when no one else is there.........
9.20.08 OMGoodness! What happened to this place? Yes there was no cost admission but it was really sad. The place was horribly slow and well it was almost as if I could see a tumble weed going across the room. The girls and I stayed about half hour hoping and waiting that something exciting will start happening, but nothing.
The good part was that the drinks was really good and it was cheap. I never seen such cheap drinks. Vodka tonic for $6.50?? Strange but hey at least we got something out of this lonely place.
So if you were thinking of coming to this place to party, think again. Its not like how it use to be. Back in the days people dancing on the bars, crowds everywhere. It was 12 midnight and not a single soul was moving or grooving.
Sad.
Is it an unfun kind of fun or a drunken kind of good fun?
I've been here at least half a dozen times years ago, and it was always a sardine dance-a-thon. I guess the dudes come here knowing the girls weren't gonna be very much covered up. It really did get old. Waayyy too crowded. This place wasn't small, but even the stairwells are crowded. It's over-capacity every time, so thank goodness there weren't any incidents. The patio was a smokefest, so it's not the best place for a breath of fresh air. The night air was still cooler than the sweltering club scene inside. *shakes head*
It's quite sad that my most memorable experience here was finding gum on my pleather pants. *fun* At least it was throw-away clothing. Otherwise, Miyagi's was good for brainless buzz/drunken dancing.
Never been here for sushi, but from the sounds of some other reviews, I didn't miss much and the place has not changed either. *meh*
As everyone says, service is ridiculously slow. It would take 20 min. and a couple attempts at ordering just to get refills on water. And even still, they'd bring ONE water glass instead of a pitcher and refilling all the glasses that needed it (which were a lot more than when I originally asked for the refills).
The food was okay, but I agree, definitely nothing special. At least it's not as pricey as a lot of other places, but there is certainly better value to be found in hole-in-the-wall joints.
Finally, $25 corkage?!?! If they want to discourage people from bringing their own stuff, they succeeded. Of course, with that level of corkage I wouldn't have gone there to begin with if it wasn't my friends' birthday. Considering they're pricing their corkage up there with the likes of Drago Centro ($25) and Spago ($30/750ml)...well, they must think it's still the mid-nineties and that they're the bomb! Which, again seems to be a common theme from the low reviews this place has gotten the last 2 years.
So yeah, like everyone else said, go somewhere else.
Sushi de crap, over priced. I could have nutted and made a better roll.
=/ sorry for being so crude.
the only reason i think we went into this place was because apparently mr. JT himself rented out dublins across the way. (at least that was what the rumor was for the nyte...i dunno if it was tru or not)
i dun think we stayed long...more like a once around and we left.
the only things i remember about this place is that it was way to packed and it had an awfull smell...kinda like a combination of fish n piss. yeah i know its a sushi place but when im tryin 2 get my drink and dance on...i dun want it to smell :0(
Wax on. Wax OFF.
This place is lame-o central. I'm pretty sure I don't need to see buste-ass women dancing on the tables like they're hot or acting out some secret dream to be an exotic dancer.
This place is so crowded on the weekends. Whoa! If you want to get blasted and hit on some busted-ass chicks from the 909, then hook yourself right up.
If you want to get crazy like Prince, then this is your place. I've not had the food here. But I'm pretty sure I'd go somewhere else for sushi.
Don't half step. Have a backup plan in tact before you set foot in here.
Unfortunately, Miyagi's just isn't it anymore. I remember coming here years ago.. it used to be happening! It used to be alive, and I even remember some good times!
The yester-years have sadly gone.
This experience was bad - for a night on the weekend, it was pretty dead, and while it started off like it could have potential, it just plummeted downhill from there. The waitress who was actually attractive and friendly at first, suddenly became non-existent. Service was painfully slow. The clock-was-a-tickin' and we couldn't even leave because it took like aeons for the bill to arrive.
The food was overpriced and nothing spectacular. Quite disappointing. For the price you pay, you would hope the food would be memorable. Or at least tasty, since you're out on the town.
You can often tell how great a restaurant or business is by the cleanliness of the bathroom. Their bathroom looked like a tornado must have swung by it at some point, and it was just hideous. Maybe because it's a unisex bathroom. But still, you'd hope they have staff clean the bathrooms every once in a while?
The whole atmosphere of the place just doesn't even feel like you're in LA anymore. For lack of a better term, it just feels plain shady.
I don't like giving negative posts, but I can't lie either. I honestly would not come back again. I would recommend to Miyagi's to rebuild, maybe change their whole image with a fresh start. I just can't believe a place that used to be so popular and fun has just deteriorated into this lackluster disappointment.
Had a good night here a few years back but the last time I went it had gone down hill in a big way. The food is a certain 2 stars but the Two for One deals on the booze at Happy Hour is a Five Star all the way!
Go to drink, not for the Sushi.
Crikey ... it's closed!
This place would be cool if:
-I'd never had decent sushi before
-I was a frat boy from Idaho who'd never been to LA
-I was in the market for some good STDs
-My image of a good time in LA was defined by Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do"
-Fighting and puking in the parking lot was my idea of a good time
"Hit it!
This ain't no disco
It ain't no country club either
This is LA!"
The newest addition to my LA's Most Overrated list. (Can't believe I forgot this place when I compiled that!)
Can you really review a place if you've never been or eaten there. Screw it, why not!
Well, I wish that was the truth but its not, I went here so long ago it almost feels as if it was a dream, strike that, reverse it....a nightmare! But in those days I was way less picky. I was in college, I wanted sex, drugs and awful sushi! I wanted to make an ass out of myself to every girl, I wanted to jump on tables dancing and fall down crying...and I did it all for the nookey or at Miyagi's
This place is a disgrace but then again so was I. The point is, you can have a good time anywhere if your shit face but now that I am older and wiser lets be real, the food is crap, the crowd is college and post college (I dont want to move back to my mom's house) crowd, which is expected for the part of Sunset.
From all the reviews on here you will understand that this is not good, not just for the reasons I have listed but a slew of others that would make me redundant for typing, plus its 4:00 on a Tuesday and old Antonio is ready for real world happy hour. Good drinks, good people and good times. Not a happy hour that leaves you in a state of Miyagi hell where you end up using the bra of a hefer you met at Miyagi's to throw up in and then requesting her to put it back on because you think its funny.
This place is now a caracature of what it was.
Thats Sad
They totally mess up the exclusivity and value of the minimalist art of Japanese food. I came in here and thought I was at Cabo Cantina....with bad sushi.
Don't recommend for a good meal. For a drink with friends...maybe.
If you have friends that one to experience "LA" the way they THINK it is, then this is one of the places you should bring them. If you are trying to prove that "LA" is more than most of the country perceives it to be, do not take them here.
30 reviews of this place, you'd think you've heard it all, but my best experience here was when there was a fight that caused security to have to switch on the house lights.
The music abruptly stopped (yes, think every teen movie you've seen where you can here the re record scratch to silence) and the group of guys gawking over these ladies dancing on the bar realizing how repulsive looking they were in the light.
It was pretty funny and I enjoyed it because it gave me an excuse to let the group know that we should move on from this joint.
Can't really say anything good about Miyagis...oh wait, yes I can. There was a HOT bartender downstairs one day who served me and a few girlfriend's some beer. Nice accent, easy on the eyes, good refills! We only made our way here on account of we wanted to use them for their parking lot to actually go to ANOTHER bar! Miyagis used to be fun when Dublin's was open across the street and you could bar-hop...oh, and you'ld have to be in your early 20's to even enjoy THAT!!
I hear the food is shite and not worthy but who knows...let me know if you find otherwise!!
Funny story I always think of...
One Halloween weekend, back before DInosaurs were extinct...I went here IN COSTUME after a party in Hollywood. Funny...thought there would be OTHER people dressed up but noooooo. And I had just tossed my cookies (thankfully in retrospect) because some creep at last said party stuck a ROOFIE in my cocktail!! So here I am with two friends, I'm kind of drugged and I'm dressed like a drowning victim from the Titanic...complete with period gown and skin painted blue with ice crystals in my hair (I looked good people!). No WONDER people were looking at me funny.
Go here as a stopover place on route to somewhere else...or just stay away.
Miyagi's is really sad, trying too hard to revive its prior days of pretentious popularity and livelihood...kind of like my boss, a mid-thirties dad with incessant stories of his prehistoric frat days. I love the guy but he needs to get over it and give me a raise.
The only reason I give them 2 stars is because they have a good 2-for-1 happy hour, which includes all drinks and menu items. Not that their food is very quality, but it's a decent effort.
I passed the venue the other day and it looked dark and deserted. Another one bites the dust? Hopefully.
Horrible Hollywood sushi. Not only is the service ridiculously incompetent, but they lack the common skills that you would expect from the typical Denny's waiters/waiteresses. I order an appetizer along with my beer and when I didn't receive it an hour later, it was so difficult to even get them to bring it out. On top of that, in the fine print, they add a %18 gratuity to parties of 5 or more. Even if you service was horrible. No wonder this place is dead. This was my FIRST and LAST time eating here.
Of the two times I have been here, I witnessed a car accident as an SUV was turning left onto Sunset, two rumbles outside near the parking lot, and some girl who threw up all over what looked like Dior pumps. That last one was just a horrible, horrible sin.
As my buddy Nathan stated in his review of Miyagi's, this place would be pretty awesome if you're an out-of-state guest who has never had decent sushi before- actually make that if you have NEVER had sushi before. The fish here was NOT fresh and not well prepared at all (which makes me think what a moron I was for agreeing to come back here a SECOND time!!).
The ONLY decent aspect of Miyagi's is that it's located on Sunset Blvd., and that it's somewhat on a hill- which gives it a decent view at nighttime. P.S. If you're looking at the photos posted for this place, see how there's an SUV driving towards the camera?? Yeah, that's kinda like what I witnessed last time I was there, before a BMW 3-series smacked right into it. Obviously a drunken mess of a place with awful over-priced food. This was one of those places that had some potential (with its high profile location), until the mismanagement of the staff and overall sense of "EFF it who cares??" took over. What a waste, like those poor innocent Dior shoes. *sniff*
I must admit that after reading the reviews on the same day I had made a reservation for 20, I was very apprehensive.
Came on a Wednesday night. Party of 20. On the patio. No one else was at the joint, so I didnt deal with any annoying "b list actors"...
I think we lucked out with our waiter. He was attentive, quick with drinks. Good memory as well as picture taker...But then again, there wasnt anyone else there so that could be why.
I had the asain BBQ chicken salad. It was sooooo good. I recommend that, and the crunchy rolls.
It is a little expensive, (480 bucks for all of us.) But we had a good time, and the servers didnt seem to mind our loud sex talk and potty mouths.
Miyagi's is one of those places that should have been shut down some time ago, if not completely for it's terrible sushi, then at least for the fact that it's still embracing the concept of "cool" and "hip" circa 1994.
I remember coming to Miyagi's my freshman year in college, when I was visiting my bf, who, at the time, was rushing a USC frat. With our fake IDs, love of florescent shooters, and idea of "wow we are so cool that we're going out and getting drunk on Sunset!", Miyagi's couldn't be beat.
That said, I've been here twice in my post-college years. One was for half-price sushi night (Mondays, I believe) - I would rather not have paid anything at all for the crap on a plate they call sushi. Another time was for a going away party. Why this person wanted to have a going away party at Miyagi's was beyond me. Tacky, tacky, tacky is the only word that comes to mind - of the people, of the music, of the DJ that encouraged the ladies to dance on the bar - he promised to buy the best dancer a drink. Lots of B&T quality hoochy mamas. Perhaps it was a propos that it was a going away party - because, seriously, Migayi's needs to go away.
Heard a lot about this place so I had to check it out...
Place was PACKED!!!! 3 cute girls and 80 drunk guys hitting on them. We waited 30 mins to get a table. Drinks were good... food wasnt.
How much more can I say?
Miyagi's isn't exactly a WeHo hot spot these days, but here are 3 Tips to really capitalize on this place:
For a nice date, call ahead and ask them to set up a table for you on the second floor patio. They don't often have it open, and it is an excellent spot overlooking Sunset to have a private table with that special someone. This move turns an otherwise average restaurant (with an equally average priced menu) into a pretty nice, romantic date spot.
Got a large crew? Call and ask to talk with the owner. He loves getting big parties in the door. Whether you want him to set up a private birthday dinner party or you just have a big group that wants to do Karaoke, you can likely get him to offer some kind of good discount or drink special for your party. I have had great times here bringing 30 friends, singing some karaoke, and getting wasted for cheap off the drink specials we were offered.
Did I say karaoke? Yep, every Friday night. I tend to have fun at it because I roll in wasted with a bunch of friends. If, however, it is just you and your girlfriend looking for a hip place to show off your pipes and meet a hot dude, this is probably not your scene.
================================================== ====
Hopefully those help... Here's a more general review if you like what you're reading.
Alright, Miyagi's, I've had some pretty stellar times at this joint, and these other reviews are pretty critical, so I'm going to try and give a decent one. I will confirm that the place is often pretty empty these days, so, like I say above, either roll deep with a crew and make your own party, or roll with a date and make some romance. I think the place has a great vibe. It's right on Sunset so you get all the bright lights, and its a short cab, if not a walk, to all the clubs and bars around WeHo. It has two patios (one ground level, one elevated) that are great for eating dinner out on and the second and third floors are both gnarly spaces for private or semiprivate parties. That third floor also has two bars and the stage for karaoke. It can also get pretty full and pretty fun up there but these nights tend to be random. The crowd on those nights is also predominately black, so, if that's what you're looking for, call and ask what nights have been going off lately.
These other review are pretty critical of the food, but I don't really get that. Maybe I'm just not enough of a sushi snob. As someone who loves to eat and probably has a less picky palate, I can tell you that the sheriff roll and the teriyaki chicken are both whats it about when it comes to my mouth.
I recommend checking out the scene here sometime, if you don't like it, Saddle Ranch is always right next door and that place is stupidly fun.
ALERT: never go here unless it is happy hour.
this place is certainly not anything to brag about, but if you get there during happy hour it ain't half bad. valet parking is a few bucks and everything is 2 for 1. i would avoid this place if the happy hour wasn't this acceptable. it's very much a wannabe sports bar in the lower level -- corona ads in a sushi joint? i haven't been in the upstairs in years, but i think there's a big ass fountain inside. maybe i'm remembering wrong.
regardless, i'll go here once in a blue moon (i certainly went more when i was in my early 20s and dublins was still open)... it's not the worst sushi place i've been to, but it is probably one of the most trendy (or trying to be).
and remember, never consider going here unless you want 2 for 1 during happy hour. otherwise, the price is way too much for what it is.
This is one of my least favourite spots. There's nothing special about girls dancing on countertops. It's overly crowded, and maybe an ideal spot for some college kids. But even when I was in college, this places wasn't so great.
I did go in for their all-you-can-eat sushi for dinner one time. It was decent but they take so long to get to your table that I felt it would take me 3 hours to stuff my belly. Maybe that's how they milk you- you get so freakin' tired of ordering and waiting that you just leave.
Been here twice. First time it was pretty fun. Place was packed but still pretty easy to get a drink. Crowd was pretty solid.
Just went by this weekend and this time it was kinda empty. Not too many people around. Never been here for food. I'd go here again for drinks but would kind of look out for some signs of life before going in.
despite the horrible reviews, i can't believe people gave this place more than one star.
Miyagis is a joke and a fire hazard waiting to explode. the place gets so crowded (not in a good way) that it takes a good 15 minutes to walk from one side of the club to the other. people are spilling drinks everywhere, hollywood starlet wannabe's are busting their best (among the worst) gogo dancing this side of deja vu's. and accompanying your sub-par sushi is the fragrant aroma of fresh yack.
save yourself from the hour drive down the sunset strip unless, ladies, if you prefered to be picked up on by guidos.. this is the place for you!
Finally went here over the weekend for a private party. Although the party was from 8pm - closing, we skipped trying to eat here based on the prior yelp reviews. As stated earlier, this place has a first floor bar area with limited seating, the second floor is entirely restaurant tables and booths, the third floor is a lounge/bar area. Our group reserved the 3rd floor, actually we promised a $1k bar minimum and management was good with that, plus the 50 of us had no problem reaching that :-). Although I arrived around 9pm, the second floor restaurant area was completely dead, just a few patrons on the first floor eating and knocking back a few. I'm guessing the food is nothing to write home about. Drinks weren't exactly cheap....$6-7 for bottled beer so I'm guessing we missed Happy Hour. The 3rd floor was also undergoing a renovation in the patio area which was completely closed off. Although they had to kick everybody out at closing, we had a good time and the staff was accomodating (even the manager was waiting on a few of us). Although, I can definitely see how this place could have gone down hill from its once heyday. Here's hoping that the renovation restores it to it's former glory.
Uh... what can I say? This place is kind of like a Spring Break bar in the off season. The air was stale, the place was dirty, and there was a kitchen island near the dance floor upstairs? Looks as if it was in the middle or a renovation (or at least should be). My friends dragged me here one night. I will give them one star though for letting me bring my own sushi in though.
Looks WAY nicer from the outside. I would rather stay home than go back here.
What's good about Miyagis? It's old school, it's on boojie Sunset, and there's hella people. That's about it.
People everywhere. Dance floor is too packed to dance. You must get on top of the bar if you want to get any decent dancing time in. Sushi is bleh, but they did make the roll with the cucumber around it (instead of rice and seaweed) really good. Shocking.
Parking is stupid just like everywhere on Sunset. I guess it's not TOO bad since the place is pretty big, but otherwise, whatevs.
Music needs to be better! Better ventilation in the main area too please. :)
Came here to eat on Thursday night. Our waiter was completely impatient. He came over to ask us to order, we got apps first, then he came over and asked if we were going to order anything else and I said yea, and he kind of just stood there. I told him we would wait for our sushi (which was bad), and then he kind of sighed. I asked him if the kitchen was closed or something, and he said "no, i've just been here all day and I want to get out of here."
Okay pal, i'm sorry you got sat, but it's not like we were being indecisive, we just got there! rude.
Food was not that great, over priced, and $10 Saporos. GEEEZ
Would have rather eaten McDonald's
Mr. Pink: 'Why the eff am I MR. PINK!
Mr: White: 'Who cares what ya name is.'
Mr. Pink: 'That's cuz your MR. WHITE! Ya got a cool calling name.'
Mr. White: 'Let's get to work, punk.'
(insert the shagadelic RESERVOIR DOG theme music)
This is what happens when you and a movie buddy start to go the deep end re-enacting scenes from restaurant that looks like a low-budget film set from a Quintin Tarrantino movie while nursing a beer and popping soybeans. It's not exactly 'low budget' if you get the hint. Nor does the name bring any nolstagia memory of Ralph Macchio doing a crane kick. Avoid if you can unless you ran outta of gas and this was as far as you can push the car for a quick pit stop - then chill with a bottle of Sapporo. Afterwards re-enact from a Tarrantino movie ... What is more LA, than a waiter (not waitress) named Ocean???
This would have made the visit way more pleasurable if I had known this at the time, instead of when I looked at the receipt when we got home.
So, Ocean reminded me of a Tyson Beckford with a ponytail.
Ocean served us decent sushi.
Ocean served us salty edamame......he likes it salty.
Ocean had 2 tables.
Ocean probably didn't make shit for tips at this place cause it was so dead. (Valet prob made more that night)
Ocean offered green tea ice cream.
What Ocean would Ocean be? Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, wait......is that racial?
Hope next time we get River, Autumn, or Sunny to serve us somewhere other than the first floor.
