What a delight. On a chilly, rainy Saturday afternoon, Mixto was the perfect place for brunch. It was light and bright and warm inside ... the service was lovely and ... the food.
The food was excellent. Coffee? Delicious. Wine? A nice list with interesting (and spot on) descriptions. The menu is extensive. I wanted one of everything but I settled on the Orange Spice Scrambled Eggs. There could've been more orange spice BUT I love it all the same. The eggs were light and fluffy and balanced nicely by the peppers/onions/tomatoes on the side.
I can't wait to come back for dinner!
So instead of going to the Art Museum, we decided to go have dinner and get a couple of drinks... after about 10 minutes on Yelp, we decided on going to Mixto.
Once we got inside and I could smell the deliciousness of food, I instantly got hungry... We had to wait about 10-15 minutes, which was fine, as it gave us time to absorb the place (which is definitely cool, though the neon signs kind of don't match the rest of the decor) and get a couple of drinks. Mojitos here are good, maybe not the best in town, but a solid #2 (I've tried both the classic and pomegranate).
Soon enough we got the table and quickly ordered. We got a "sampler" appy plate, which could be good enough in terms of quantity to serve as dinner by itself!! The quality was definitely up to par as well.
Entrees were just as good and just as large in terms of quantity.
Definitely a place I'd recommend and come back to later.
A friend/fellow yelper and I met for a drunken brunch to celebrate Labor Day. We started our meal with bloody marys, which were just okay (but not bad enough to stop us from ordering a second round later in the meal). Next time, I'll probably opt for one of Mixto's many other signature drinks instead.
We started with the platanitos; plantain chips and guacamole. I like my chips salted, but the plantain chips were nakey so we just threw some salt on top of the guac. No complaints though. I order this starter often so I knew what to expect.
For my breakfast, I had huevos rancheros. My dining companion and I gave a shout out to Monica S. at this point, the resident expert on this dish. I was given my choice of breakfast meat and I went with chorizo, which ended up being pretty awesome. Refried beans and some homemade tortilla chips completed the meal.
Shout out to our server, Louis, who was efficient and pleasant, despite our many questions and special requests.

Mixto is probably my favorite of all the Cuban/Caribbean places I've tried in and around the city.… Read more »
after hearing many good things about this place, i was really looking forward to trying it. we sat outside (right up against the street. gross view, but it was such a nice night and the chairs were so comfy, i barely noticed the less-than-scenic street)
heard lots of hype about the drinks, so i ordered some sort of rum punch which was just too much for me. our server was totally nice about it and i got a mojito instead. muuuch better. we started with the plato mixto which was enormous and included every possible appetizer cuba is known for. it was delicious. i didn't even come close to eating my share bc i wanted to save room for my entree. i looooved the rope vieja here. it was beyond delicious. i dont remember what my boyfriend ordered, but my choice was the clear winner. the service was great and the meal was delicious. wish i had saved room for dessert, but no worries.. i'll def be back!
Maybe I am not getting it. This place has a lot of good reviews so I was excited to try it out. But it was just bland all around.
The decor is trying for a sleek look with warm woods and paintings, this is promptly killed by the seemingly obligatory neon signs for the bar. Our waitress was pleasant and did a good job. She is by far the only reason this place gets a star at all.
The food was a disappointment from all angles. We ordered 2 apps, the fired plantain which has mozzarella cheese on it. The plantain was fired nicely but the cheese was not melted, it was still cold from the fridge. It did nothing to cut through the sweetness of the plantain or contrast it in any way. There was a sad drizzle of balsamic on the plate but it was so minimal that was just over powered by the sweetness. Melting the cheese & drizzling some of the balsamic on the dish itself would have made a world of difference. The second app was the chicarrones which were said to be ok but could have used more salsa. On to the main course. I ordered the Churrasco Colombiano. This is supposed to be a strip steak with "Colombian Creole" sauce on it. What I got was a huge slab of grilled unseasoned meat. The veggies were over cooked and suffered from the same blandness. The side serving of black beans looked like it was taken directly from a can and heated. Once again I had to add salt and pepper to get some flavor. The yellow rice was ok but on the dry side. Both of my dinner companions complained the same problem of lack of seasoning on anything. So this was a first and last time for me with Mixto.
A long, long time ago in a galexy far, far away (well, it seems that far nowadays that I've moved to CA), a friend and I came to Mixto for a quick lunch for my friend. Since I had already eaten, I ordered a tres leches cake. Since that experience I have judged all tres leches cakes by the high Mixto standard. I was very excited to return with that same friend and her new husband.
As much as the brunch items looked good (the fritatta with chorizo sounded super yummy), I am all about a good paella when I get the chance. I assumed that a good Cuban place would have a good paella. You know what they say about those who assume: they make an "ass" out of "u" and "me".
The paella was disappointing to say the least. Many of the other dishes looked good, and I would definitely go back to try them. At the very least, I would go back to recreate my tres leches happiness coma.
My friends took me here when I visited this past summer from the West Coast and it is delicious. The ropa vieja was the dish I had. My friends ordered different dishes and all I have to say is that each dish was very flavorful and everything taste good. You also have to get the pitcher of sangria, it is amazing.
Let's hear it for my 1400th review on yelp.
Well - here it goes...
I just got back from a delicious lunch at Mixto with a good (vegetarian) friend of mine. After we each had a stiff, refreshing Classic Mojito each (and I was beginning to feel the buzz). Our friendly - if a little slow- waiter took our orders.
I had the Plato Vegetariano and my friend had a Salad with Avocado added on top. Both were fresh and excellent. I asked them to omit the tostones (green plantains) on my platter and sub maduros (sweet plantains) and thus I had an abundance of maduros to share with my friend.
I also gave him some of the Yucca, black beans and 1/4 of the SCRUMPTIOUS white corn arepa.
Wow. I can not wait to go back.
Why not 5 stars? A few reasons - in fact I was dithering between 3 & 4 stars. Service here is, indeed, weird. Since we arrive just before noon and the place was dead empty our service was better than it could have been - but I imagine at peak times this place is just NUTS. They do kind-of check you out upon arrival. The hostess was icy-cold. Bus person (male) was very nice.
Also some might say that there are not enough vegetarian options - you basically can have salads or the plato - and that's it. Fortunately I loved the plato - that arepa and the maduros were PERFECT. It aslo had steamed (bland) veggies, yellow rice and a clump of mixed green salad in a tasty sweet dressing.
The mojios were STRONG and well muddled. We went back again a few weeks later and had Vanilla and Pasion Fruit mojitos which were, indeed, sweeter but so delicious. Oh - and the LARGE ($13) really is large.
I can't wait to return. Again - I'll try for a non peak time. (The weekend madness here is just not for me.)
Oh - and they DON'T take reservations unless it's a party of 5 or more.
So this is a hard review to write as I've had various experiences at Mixto. Yesterday the office went there for Happy Hour and overall the food was mediocre and the drinks pretty dissapointing. However, that being said, in the past I have had much better experiences. Great pitchers of margaritas, unique mixtures of mojitos and they even have a list of caipirinhas which is one of my all-time favorite summer drinks. My boyfriend and I had the calamari after seeing it come out for another diner and seeing how huge it was only to find they increase the look by adding a large layer of what appeared to be fried onions underneath. Not a huge deal as there was still a ton, but a strange business practice for sure. Aren't you just setting people up for dissapointment?!
All in all the group was happy, the drinks were fine and the food was ok. This was happy hour though so take that into consideration.
I came here for a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday, and ate at the bar upstairs. There were two guys working at the bar, and the one who ended up serving us really seemed like he hates his job. He was very young and resembled Aaron Carter and was so annoyed when we asked for food menus, and then when we ordered a pitcher of margaritas, and then when we ordered food. I really wanted salt and pepper, but I was scared to ask him for anything else. A food runner brought out our food and he was totally pleasant. We had a pitcher of a mango margarita that was really smooth and easy going down - sometimes margaritas equal instant heartburn for me! I had a mixto salad with seared tuna; I ordered it rare and it was perfectly cooked. The crowd inside was very varied, and my dining partner and I were having a great time making up stories about them. My favorite was the table of girls we assumed are sorority sluts playing innocent and nice while they met one of the girl's family. The food and drinks will bring me back, but hopefully I will have better service next time.
I love Mixto in the summertime. Gazpacho, empanadas and a mojito or margarita is exactly what I want on a warm summer evening, and Mixto delivers. In fact, I have been known to drag friends there in the middle of winter so we can forget about the cold for awhile. When it's warm, try to sit by the big open window downstairs if you can, but upstairs is perfectly fine too.
Margaritas are served in a giant bucket of a glass, but they're well made and interesting if you want to venture beyond the basic recipe - I like the one with Chambord. Mixto does great with mojitos, caipirinhas and their specialty cocktails, too. I haven't had a bad drink there.
Aside from my usual empanadas and gazpacho (which is excellent and comes with delicious guac and plantain chips), vegetarians have several apps, salads, black bean soup, and a feast of a vegetarian platter to choose from. I've liked everything I've tried.
Now, the downside - service. I don't think I've ever been to Mixto without experiencing some kind of service hiccup: an order coming out wrong, a bill that doesn't account for happy hour, a disappearing server. However, the issues are always minor and resolved relatively easily, and the drinks and food are good enough to keep me coming back.
Let me put it this way: if I lived downtown, I would be hear all the time. As it stands, I've only been there twice for business lunches, where I really couldn't "get down" like I wanted to. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, which strikes me as authentic though I have absolutely no way of verifying that. I also love the layout and design of the restaurant which feels open and cozy all at once.
One of these days, I'm going to get my wife down there for dinner and drinks, so they can earn their 5th star.
3.5 stars
When Mixto first opened, I was a big fan. The prices were decent and I loved getting the amped up salads, which were full of so much meat that they made great meals. I took a few years hiatus and when I came back, Mixto had lost that loving feeling. Food was fine but overpriced. Now I also eat a lot of vegetarian meals, and Mixto has very limited offerings (as other Yelpers have noted).
However!
They have a great happy hour beginning at 5pm. mmmm. Mojitos for $4? Screw the entrees...get drunk and then head to another place for grub.
I went to Mixto with my bf and his family after a very long, hot day on a Friday. Luckily, we were early enough (around 6-ish) that while the downstairs area was pretty crowded they were able to easily seat us upstairs; however, as our meal progressed the place filled up, mostly with people in the 20's and 30's. At that point, I could easily determine this place's personality, and unfortunately for me its not something I enjoyed.
The menu is very VERY meat heavy, with extremely limited vegetarian selections, but luckily for me they also have a number of seafood dishes. However, the price of the dishes does not reflect the quality of the food. These are dishes I could make myself in about 30 minutes, food prep AND cook time. The dishes at least are LARGE, probably better to share if you're a girl like me; manly men could probably finish off the entrees easily enough, although the entrees seem to be primarily the rice and beans that accompany every dish. I got the Ensalada Mixta with sauteed shrimp - not very many shrimp, but boy was that salad huge. And not that great. Neither, from the looks of it, were the other dishes we ordered. It was just okay, and for prices like that I'd like a little better than 'okay.'
But its clear from the other patrons there that the draw of this place are the drinks. Mixto seems like a good place for a group of friends to sit, drink, joke and share the massive dishes - being too buzzed to care at the quality of the food consumed. So, if that sort of place is your thing, you'll probably love Mixto. For me and my bf's family, when we decide to eat out we want food that we wouldn't normally prepare, and we want it to taste like effort went into it.
Good for: outside lunch dining (w/ dogs), brunch with out of town guests and happy hour drinks
Perks: Beautiful outdoor seating with large red-orange umbrellas. Delicious platos vegetarianos - a combination platter with a small salad, avocado, arepas, green plaintains, sweet fried plantains & roasted vegetables, red beans and yellow rice. My boyfriend's favorite is the ropa vieja - a chicken dish that's slow cooked so the meat pulls apart like "old clothes." Margaritas and mojitos are fresh - the bartenders are generous and serve up a strong drink.
Pitfalls: The service is slow. Food sometimes takes forever to come out of the kitchen, leaving more reason to enjoy an oversized margarita while you wait. During busy times the hostess staff has been rude and inattentive.
Tips: If coming on a weekend night (not highly recommended because of the super slow service) make sure to call ahead.
First off let me say that the drinks are phenomenal. I started off with the mango margarita which was delicious but did not even begin to compare with the caipirinhas. Strawberry, guava, regular, whatever, all phenomenal. Also, my friend got a mojito which she seemed to enjoy.
The food was good, but not as awesome as the drinks. The smoked salmon salad was a little salty, but anything with chicken or pork seems to be a hit (according to my other dining guests). Also, plantain chips and calamari were pleasant dinner starters.
satisfying. charming atmosphere. you should probably go.
I went to Mixto tonight with a friend and we were pretty excited because we've heard good things about this restaurant and we wanted to go somewhere new for us.
I was a bit disappointed that the food was a bit pricey (seriously, $4.5 for TWO empanadas is ridiculous). But the entrées were delicious. I highly recommend the chicken with cheddar sauce dish. It was amazing! And I love that you get a small bit of rice and black bean soup on the side. I was completely stuffed after the chicken though!
The poor thing about this restaurant was the service. We were ignored by our waiter multiple times and he NEVER checked up on us to see how we were doing (despite the fact he was only a few feet away). It was not a busy night either. We actually decided to tip the guy who constantly refilled our glasses with water. He was very polite and friendly. Even though he was not our waiter, we felt he sure deserved it more than ours did. He was rude and distant and just talked to the bartender all night even though we were only a few feet away. Simple things such as soda refills and common courtesy really isn't to be taken for granted.
A great place for a summer brunch date with your love. Getting seated and served can take a very long time ( -1 star), from my experience, 5 - 20 min, even when its a slow day, but this could be a good thing if you know ahead of time.
They have a very distinct flavor and once you try it, you'll know that most of the things on the menu will stay in that palate range. They also have lovely outdoor seating, but it doesn't seem like it meets code with Philly's zoning regulations - I could see a biker or a pedestrian running into the tables very easily, but hey its Philly, so who cares, right?
Little things matter. They don't put too much attention into what you ordered. Example - your order of over-medium eggs will be runny with some whiles slightly uncooked ( -1 star).

I love this place.
I can't wait until I go back- it's just that good.
Disclaimer: My parents are Colombian and Peruvian, so I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about- this food is what floats my boat.
We started out with a round of mojitos and caipirinas (I got a caipiroshka, which has vodka instead of cachaca). All drinks in that round were (5/5 stars).
We also had their version of the sampler platter as an appetizer it was 3/5 stars- I wasn't crazy about there being tomato in their ceviche, and the empanadas were somewhat dry, but the chorizo and chicarrones were delicious.
For dinner we ordered a pitcher of sangria (4/5 stars) it wasn't very genuine since it was pretty watered down and had a lot of lemon and limes in it, but it was very refreshing to accompany dinner with. And I had a Colombiana!!! A delicious soda you can only find in Colombia or wonderful outposts like this restaurant... I was very excited.
I had a Bandeja Tipica (Paisa) (4/5 stars) for my entree, which comes with beans, rice, meat, chorizo, chicharrones, and arepas- its one of my favorite comfort foods. It was very good tastewise, I just wish they gave you more beans!! All you get is a little cup- which is simply not as much as you should get.
We ended dinner with a Tres Leches (3/5 stars) and carrot cake (5/5 stars) the carrot cake was yummy, I only wish I had more space in my stomach to have eaten more!
Definitely go here! I took too long to make my way over..
P.S. Service left much to be desired, but we had such a good time and the food and drinks were so good that it was the least of our problems.
Delicious Cuban food for a moderate price. The atmosphere is definitely fun for a large group of people but also intimate if you want to go as a party of two. This place has to floors and outdoor seating so there are plenty of options.
The servers is great, bartenders are great and the mojitos are some of the best I've had state side. I recommend you order the pitcher because you'll want seconds and thirds. My favorite is the classic chicken and rice with a side of crab empanadas.
No draft beer? Not a good start. Food was okay, except for desert, which was awesome. Wait staff was a little unresponsive, but we were a larger party. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it.
I love this place! It is probably my favorite restaurant in Philly. The plaintains and mojitos are amazing, and the restaurant is not even that expensive. It also has a decent number of options for vegetarians.
The only minor drawback is that service can sometimes be a bit slow, but I enjoy being there so much that I tend not to care!
Mixto was great! It was definitely pricey and incredibly busy on the night I was there so it took longer to get our food, but understandable.
I had this awesome spicy chicken dish with mushrooms. I would go back there more if I could afford it. There's a Colombian Rest. on 5th street that is just as good with cheaper prices.
Every time I move, my boyfriend makes me promise first: no more than 5 blocks away from Mixto. This has been our go-to brunch spot for 3 years now, and I can't imagine changing anytime soon.
First, the food. Mmmm, delicious! Over the years, I've tried pretty much everything on the brunch menu, from the smoked salmon frittata (unique and flavorful) to the orange-spiced eggs (don't know how they do it, but it's awesome), to the Mixto Creole breakfast, which comes with chorizo and homemade cheese. Yummm!
Their Blood Marys are decent; the service is always great, and brunch for two, with coffee and drinks, is less than $50. Plus, this place is huge, so you never have to wait for a seat!
In the summer, they open up the front windows, creating a large, open-air eating area. Try to get one of the tables near the front -- I swear, you'll feel like you're beachside in Havana...
This place is very hit or miss. I've been there 6 or 7 times, and each time, the service and dining experience is either really good or terrible. There is a really buff dominican waiter who is very sweet and helpful. He took time to find out exact ingredients for foods to make sure someone like myself with a gluten allergy can eat. He's also very friendly and clearly makes an effort to make sure everything is perfect. Unfortunately, nobody else in Mixto shows the same quality of service - not even the manager! Recently, when we went there, we had to ask four servers, the hostess, and the manager ONE question regarding one of the plates, and everyone responded with, "i don't know." When we finally asked if anyone would mind asking the chef, they rolled their eyes and said that the chef was too busy to answer questions.
While I really like some of their dishes a lot, I would never recommend this place to anyone who has food allergies.
I've mainly come for the drinks. The vegetarian selections were few and I didn't come at a meal time.
The sangria is great. A pitcher is enough for multiple people. The mojitos are the best drinks I've ever had. The coconut mojito is a good choice for a flavored mojitos. They use fresh ingredients in the mojitos and don't put in so much alcohol that you can't taste all of the flavors.
YUMMY!
Had brunch here with me big sis. We pretty much shared our meal (2 appetizers + 1 item on brunch list).
Got there around 1pm and sitting was prompt...sat close to the outside area. I like that they have a cover for those who want to sit outside on the sidewalk area. I can't stand sitting outside without a cover...what if a bird poops in my food?
I like the way they presented the meals also. I had the stuffed plantains and the crabmeat empanadas.
The main meal we had was a combo type dish with rice, beef, eggs, and fried cheese.
Anyway, I had the coconut margarita which tasted like a regular margarita except you will once in a while sip up some coconut flakes. I would improve the drink by maybe adding more coconut milk/juice/flavor to the drink in itself.
Didn't get dessert BUT would def love to try their lunch/dinner/dessert menu at a different time.
I'm def a fan of this place based on this visit, would return and I would recommend this place to others.
Found this place on Yelp and based on the reviews, decided to dine here with my best friend while I was visiting him in Philadelphia. This place is awesome! Our margaritas were both huge and tasty (and to top it off, on special since we were there at the tail end of happy hour). I had one with raspberry liqueur which wasn't overly sweet or overpowering. We also got an order of the plantain chips with guacamole. They had cut the plantains length wise, creating a very long chip. It was quite delicious. My meal, which I don't remember the name of, was delightful, with the meat being particularly well seasoned and cooked. The only reason for a loss of a star is that the service wasn't the best, particularly given how empty the restaurant was the night we were there. Would definitely go back if I'm ever back in town.
The food has been pretty good everytime I've come, but the last 2 times in particular have been exceptional. The service has been great, and I love love LOVE the atmosphere. I always feel like I'm on vacation for the couple of hours I'm dining in this restaurant. I'd recommend the Caipirinha or just the regular mojito.
My passion fruit mojito was/is worth a return visit. However, my appetizer of sauteed shrimp in white wine and lemon sauce was too salty. The tilapia was pan seared and good but a little greasy. I would give Mixto 2 stars for the food and 4 stars for the drinks. I will compromise and say '3 stars.'
I try not to think about Mixto. Because once I do, I can't stop. What's not to like? The food is excellent! Try the vegetarian plate; even if you're not a vegetarian! I love comparing the different fruits and veggies, and trying to guess what each one is. It's difficult sometimes, but I find it entertaining (especially if I'm drinking). And, that brings me to the drinks. Oh, the drinks! Their mojitos are the best I've ever had. And, I'd never had a caipirinha before visiting; it's now my favorite drink! Also, they usually keep the water coming, which is nice.
Other positives include a pleasing environment, and a clean bathroom. The only bad thing is my psycho ex-roommate used to work there, so I have to question the staff's sanity. Other than that, it's a great place in my book!
One of my favorite restaurants in Philly. I just took my sister there. Like every other time the service was excellent and the food, delicious. Mixto gives generous portions at very reasonable prices. My favorite dishes so far are: Bandeja Típica Colombian, Cilantro and Cumin Rubbed Pork Chops and Churrasco Argentino con.
They also have a great selection of margaritas blended with fresh juice. The perfect for friends and dates alike.
Bang for your buck, this place is great. Ropa Vieja is a wonderful dish. If you want to eat (or to take some home), go here. The prices are right. The food is amazing.
The drinks are good too. But the food. I mean, even the bread they give you is wonderful. Seriously. Find somebody who says otherwise.
Oh, and the mussels are the best in town. No lie.
Hands down, best place for casual drinks within a 10 block radius. Fried pork and ceviche are awesome. Always has a young, good looking crowd. Outdoor seating is a big plus. Drinks are hit and miss but the "snacks" make up for it.
Food: 4/5
Drinks: 3/5
Service: 4/5
Decor: 5/5
Bang 4 the $: 4/5
Will come back: Yes
This was the very first restaurant I ate at in Philly while I was doing interviews and living in Chicago. I loved it when I first ate there, and still do to this day. I did not move to Philly for the restaurant...but for a man...that's another story :)
The menu has changed slightly over the years. Things that have remained consistently good: the delicious warm buttery bread they bring out to you when you arrive; the pork loin (although now they have shredded pork in montuno de lechon) that comes with plantains, beans, rice, a tamale and avocado. I recently tried the arroz con pollo and loved how perfectly the saffron rice was cooked and how flavorful the combination of olives and chicken were in the dish. The plaintain chips with guacamole is always a favorite starter.
The decor and ambience is very nice here and the waiters are always very welcoming. I recently left my purse underneath the table (scatterbrained as always) when we got up to leave, and our waiter came running out after me. Highly recommended, especially for groups/happy hours and visitors (who knows they may end up living in philly?)
This is my second time here i love it. Me and my friends always go for brunch when we are all together. The columbian is great its the official big girl meal lol when you wanna stuff ur face or after a night of boozin it up. The prices are great the service is good the fresh fruit sangria is muy excellente!! There is never wait and the decor and real latin employees really make you feel like ur in columbia. The prices are great especially if you want a big meal for around 10 bucks.
The food was fantastic! I was a little skeptical because I had eaten Cuban food before when I was in Key West & it was just fried garbage. So I was really impressed and very satisfied by the end of my meal at Mixto. I had chicken with a mushroom cream sauce & the black bean soup. All of it delicious. The atmosphere is perfect and the service was great. Only problem was this place was SO authentic, that it was hard to understand the waiters sometimes. But that didn't take away from everything else.
I'm a Latino male and Im telling you that this place rocks! The bisteck encabollado was delicioso! The ambience is great.
I have a love/hate thing with Mixto. On the love side: the food. Brunch or dinner, every meal has been a heaping plate full of tasty yum-yums. The space also deserves an honorable mention. With the doors open in the summertime, it's like a breezy little oasis in the city.
On the hate side: the staff. They blatantly size you up when you walk in the door. If you're a group of well-dressed young gay men, an office party, or a wealthy looking couple (i.e. you seem like the type to spend heavily on overpriced fruity drinks plus appetizers) they'll take good care of you. If not, or if you get annoyed at their constant up-sell efforts, don't be surprised when your waitress vanishes for good.
I could tell more stories: the bright fuchsia lipstick stain on my water glass that was met with a shrug (no apology while I was gagging at the mental image of sharing a water with whatever Jersey-ho-creature wears fuchsia lipstick), the hostess who ignored my group for a full minute while she finished her conversation with her friend, our last waitress who didn't ask anyone what side dishes they wanted and just brought out whatever... It's fun to imagine what Craig LaBan would say about these kinds of issues. But then again, he'd probably show up in a suit and tie, and get excellent service.
Yesterday, for my mothers birthday, the family decided we would all eat at Mixto. I've eaten there before last year for mothers day and it was absolutely delicious. Last year we got to sit next to one of the windows upstairs. I enjoy having a window view. This year we were seated right at the top of the stairs.. not the best seat but that's ok.
We started with our appetizer Plato Mixto. It was an assortment of sweet plantains, green plantains, some pieces of pork, empanadas and more. I always love samplers and this one deffinitly is very tasty.
For lunch I had the Churrasco Argentino Con "chimichurri" which is a delicious charcoal grilled steak with the chimichurri sauce mmmm. Even the salad, sweet plantain, and yuca chips & avacado dip were great. I had the yellow rice with my plate. My sister preferred the white rice and black beans and my nephew had the black beans and black rice.
My mother had Mofongo and chicken soup. She wanted another kind of soup but they ran out of something they needed to make it. They were really nice about it and apologized. They even brought her a complimentary Mojito for the mistake.
Overall, It was a lovely day out in Philly. I love Mixto's food very much. Parking isn't too bad either. We usualy see if there are any parkings on the street, but if we don't see any there is a parking garage right around the courner. Yesterday was such a nice day we parked in the garage and walked.
