3 reviews for Mitzel's American Kitchen
best place I've found around tacoma for breakfast. no good view of anything except traffic or the parking lot, but the food is worth it. and prices are decent. two people with coffee for about $20. great everything. hashbrowns, cornbeef hash is wonderful, so are the blitze's with berry.
wish I could eat here everyday. I like that is not a large national corporate chain and it has a grandma's home feeling.
definitely comfort food, not for dieters.
Awful. But you're in Fife so you know that.
If you want all the charm of a Denny's with none of the taste, Mitzel's is the place to go.
This particular location is a super downer. As dimly lit as the waitstaff, it manages to look and feel sterile and still be sticky. And filled with unpleasant company - bellies spilling out of shirts, embroidered looney tunes jean jackets, orthopedic shoes, etc. etc. Seriously. I won't fault Mitzel's too much for that one -- but I don't mind taking a star off for the the waitress who totally copped an attitude when she got cityfolk in her section.
And of course, the food was AWFUL. Nowhere near homestyle food. Even on her worst days, my momma's never made anything inedible - especially not chicken pot pies! Who fucks those up? I was afraid to get to the filling after battling my way through the sickly, plastic-y crust. And the "chicken" festering inside wasn't worth the effort. Nor were the potatoes and anything else lurking in the bland goop that they sat in. I left the whole thing on my plate - with only the hole I poked in the top to show that humans had once tried to eat it.
My boyfriend's old fries and whatever other bland sandwhich he had were only memorable in that I know I ate some because I was starving.
Also, relatively pricey. I wouldn't pay money for their food again anyway, but even if it had been edible - portion size and everything else was lacking.
Stay away from Mitzel's! There are plenty of other homey diners in the area. Or Taco Bell. Or like... consider chewing off one of your own fingers.
What a quaint little place to have a nice breakfast in.
We stopped here on our way up to my cousins house in Marysvill, WA.
Upon entering Mitzels, you get a " home" type feel and the staff was very nice.
There's a large fireplace in the dinning area, and the booths are big enough for 3 on each side. The orders only took 10 mins to be cooked and the food was good.
Its not the best place around, but if you just want a nice place to eat and sit for a bit, this place is just one of the nice little places off the highway to stop and have a bite.
