I went here a couple of times with some friends who lived in that hell highriser, University Towers.  The drinks were unmemorable, except for the one that my friend had who was convinced that the cup kept refilling itself.

He was a pretty cocky guy.  We played a video game together.  I almost schooled him at a race and they he got all macho on me when he won -- I wanted to laugh because I sucked so it wasn't a big deal to beat me.

So, it was interesting enough for me to have some memories tucked away.

A cover for this place? Please.

For all the legacy hype Mitch's had, when it re-opened a few years ago and we went to check it out, I was not impressed. Place was never too packed when I went, which could be viewed as a plus, although personally I was hoping to see more life here.

But whoever decided to build a bar that requires climbing a spiral flight of stairs to get to was amazing.

If your goal is to get drunk as effectively as possible, Mitchs is for you.

It has the dirty, sticky floors of any college bar specializing in jumbo pitchers, and when school is in session, it gets unbearably crowded after 11 on the weekend. But its usually not to hard to wrangle up some tippy cup competition. Or to find some girls to charm with your beer pong skills. The juke box is from hell, but its a college bar built around cheap booze, so natch.  Any bar with that as its mission statement and that has the laissez fair attitude of Mitch's will always be a 5 star beauty.

I've never actually set foot in Mitch's (when I went to UM, it was in that upstairs space on South University where I think they have some university dept. now). But I almost did -- some idiot asked me out, and being game for whatever, I accepted. Well, he insisted we go to Mitch's, even though he knew I wasn't 21. I showed the bouncer my ID and he immediately put it in his pocket and said, "This is fake", which it was. I then suggested to my overly beefed-up date, "You wanna go to Old Town on Main? They serve me there because I work next door." And he actually said, "OLD Town??? Is it for OLD people???" No, dude, no it's not. Douche. I'm kind of glad I never actually had to be inside Mitch's, just because that guy wanted to go there, and he SUCKED!

Nothing at all special about this place, and one time I went in already pretty drunk and just nursed a beer and when I went to pay the guy mocked me.  I deserved it, sure, but he wasn't a very funny or good-natured dude, so I don't really see a reason to go back.  This town has plenty of bars and there's no reason to waste a night at a this hole.

Despite the fact that I feel like I'm the oldest person there and there are flip cup games going on all around me, I enjoy hanging out, listening to the music, and relaxing.  They usually have live music on Saturdays, and you'll find a couple of pool tables and a dart board in the back... and they usually have decent beer specials. The cover charge each time is really annoying, however. I don't think I've ever been to Mitch's w/o paying a cover on the weekends.
