San Francisco, CA
By far the BEST thrift store in SF.
Dollar section in the front. And everything else is still really cheap! (I got a navy blue cardigan for 10 bucks and it's the prettiest thing in the world!)
I wanted everything..everything was perfect. From halloween costumes, to hippie clothes, to adorable purses and bags, lingerie, pants, cutest dresses ever..the list goes on.
Ever wondered how people look so groovy in SF and don't seem to have loads of cash? I think I know why now..
If you live in SF ( or just visiting ) and want to shop for amazing clothes on a budget...go here! NOW. K, I'm done. :) -

Danger! Danger! This thrift store is wicked awesome and I have to restrain myself from spending all of my monies every time I go.
Excellent selection of vintage clothing, mostly in good condition and CLEAN! Had a blast sorting through the racks of dresses the other day. They are neatly arranged in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s categories and have a lot of character. I felt like I was in a time machine.
Some of the prices are a downright steal and others are a bit wonky. I tried talking myself into buying a 70s dress by Texas Swinger for $23.00 but just couldn't do it. Maybe next time! -

Mission Thrift is a bit too packed for me. I had to squeeze between aisles and then push clothes aside with effort to see them. They do have an 'ethnic top' section which I liked and everything is well organized and clean.
Honestly, I probably shouldn't have gone on an Indian Summer October Saturday, as it was unpleasantly warm inside the store and the only dressing room was being used by a woman trying on hella Halloween costume outfits.
(btw: the interior photo by Jennifer P. is not Mission Thrift but the more spacious Thrift Town down the street.) -

This is my favorite thift store of the numerous ones in the mission. Really good deals to be found here, and it the racks are well organized, which means you can find what your looking for quickly. The prices are insanely cheap on many items. Definitely worth a browse if your in the area.

While slumming it in the Mission, I spied a thrift store, and was pulled in by its Tractor Beam.
Cool sweaters, neat jackets, unique Tees, and funky pants.....yeah, I liked this joint.
I performed a scan. I picked and prodded, and came up with a stack. I took my pile to the dressing room like a vintage-eating robot. Sure, sure, I always pick things which are probably sized for a boy, but I had to dry them on and let my belly hang out of 'em, but I did end up with a few treasures and ran to the register to pay for 'em.
So yeah, this place has some high end and cool selections if you practice your due diligence. -

Organized and clean, with some cute vintage pieces but definitely over priced! Also, I feel like I got hawk eyes while shopping around.

Sometimes I just don't have the energy to look through the racks in Mission Thrift. When I walk in I get so excited just thinking about all of the goodies I will find - and then I actually start looking.
10 minutes into it and I just want to leave. Yes, they are very organized but you literally have to look at every dress to see what you might be into. And then you have to try it on - as I am sure you are aware of the differences in sizes for most vintage clothing. Pretty soon I realize I've been in there over an hour and having made up my mind on anything!
Basically, I like this store and have purchased many evening dresses here that I still enjoy wearing, I just really have to be in the mood to shop there all day. -

I was just walking around Mission Street and came upon Mission Thrift. This place has everything you could imagine. It's like walking into a permanently awesome garage sale. Upstairs they have a ton of housewares. Downstairs is chock-full of clothes and accessories. You have to experience this place to really appreciate it. There is no way you can leave without finding a great bargain.
The sheer size, organization and cleanliness of this place is amazing. -

Awesome, and hip.
This place is my kind of thrift store. Everything in there is very cute! and decently priced. The people that work and go there don't act like hipster snobs.
Love their little catagory names- "slutty dresses" "ethnic clothing". They even separate out clothing by era or the era in which they are inspired
from "think 20, 40, 70, etc"
also, look for the $1 sale rack outside.
This place covers all that you would want- Halloween costumes, fuzzy coats, cute dresses, apron, etc.
the only thing I dispise is there is only one dingy little fitting room with hooks that were way too high for me to reach to put any of my stuff on. -
Review from Sean S.
Here's another good thrift store for SF shopping that you'll find in the Mission. It isn't as hip as a Beacons Closet and as wild as Clothes Contact, but they do carry all your basics. So if you forgot something, like flip flops, or you need a sweater or other item, this is the place to stop. Affordable and no-nonsense.

San Francisco, CA
Great selection of lucha masks, good music playing like Madonna circa '93, cute tags that read things like "Cute lil' 60's mod dress," and great service, particularly from the cute girl with blue hair.
These are rare things to come by in a city inundated with low-quality vintage shops with lifeless sales clerks sulking behind a counter. Great location in the heart of the Mission, not too far from the vibrant Valencia St. and complementary thrift shops.Listed in: Mission

One of the better thrift stores in the Mission.
They've got a pretty good selection of cool vintage clothing for reasonable prices, and I've found some of my favorite shirts here. -
Review from sonya d.
As far as a smelly Mission thrift store goes, this one takes the cake. But in a good way. Yes it has that intense used clothes store aroma upon walking in that hits you like a freight train, but do I care? No. There is so much to choose from and this store is huge! It's definitely not the place to go if you are not in the mood to dig, but if you are you're going to end up with some awesome take home for dirt cheap. In the past I've found cute cardigans of interesting colors, vintage boots, 80s heels, brightly colored 80s earrings, 70s style belts, movies, blouses, etc. If you want hideously absurd items, or ugly sweaters for that party you're excited for, then definitely come to Mission Thrift as well. You can find a little of each! Not to mention, the sales people are super friendly! I'm most definitely a fan!

Portland, OR
It'a great place for faux fur, sequin goodies and vintage sweaters. I don't if I'm just jaded from Portland friendliness, but the ladies working there were just plain rude. I'm from out of town and made a trip out to mission because I heard their thrift shops were the best.
I'm looking for a place with good merchandise and great staff and this place wasn't it. Especially the girl with the blue hair ... seriously left perplexed because i found a great shirt but shocked at their service.
I would recommend Thrift Town down the street. -

Clothes, Clothes and more clothes!
This place is stocked full of vintage - 80s clothes. Their ties were in pretty decent condition and had the best selection compared to Thrift Town and others.
Don't come here for any housewares - they just don't have any. -

I was buzzed one day off of the infamous
Sangria from "Cha x 3" (I put the 'x 3'
because saying Cha Cha Cha's is time
consuming and wastes space). And
right across the street I remember a store
that said Thrift. And I looked closer and I
saw Luchador Masks. Or as Adrienna G.
says, quote fucking luchador masks end
quote.
I didn't know a thrift store had a clearance
section. I thought the whole thrift store is
a clearance section. But this place is well
organized. Seriously, its freakin' well ass
organized. They have sections within a
section like Complete Suites/Blazers/
Vests/Collard Shirt/Wife Beaters/Deodorant
note: the "/" symbol symbolizes the greater
sign. you know, the crocodile mouth facing
to the left. Yelp doesn't allow the crocodile
mouth in reviews for some reason.
...maybe not the last two but its organized.
They also organize it by color. They follow
the ROY G BIV process throughout the store.
I was amazed on what they had to offer. The
suites were amazing and they have vintage
styles you'll never find anywhere. Like 70's
suites....seriously, I'm not joking. Other than
the Luchador Masks they also sell sunglasses.
When I was purchasing my brown jacket for 16
dollars, I noticed the sunglasses rack and
realized they had the Kanye Shades! wtf!
fyi. here's a link to Kanye wearing his Stunner
Shades
http://farm2.static.fl...
I bought the green ones for the Kanye concert
last week, but I ended up not wearing them.
But other than that, you guys need to go here
you'll find really cool stuff for cheap. -

The Mission, if you accept it:
Buy (not shop for) the 2008 Holiday Season.
The Location: Mission District, San Francisco.
The price range: Less than $100.
Mission impossible? ....no Mission Thrift!
The first time I went thrift shopping in the Mission, was to pick up a 70's themed outfit for Yelp's 1015 Folsom party. I wandered to 3 other shops before coming to Mission Thrift; big mistake. I should have known that this place has it all.
1. I absolutely hate shopping. I don't shop, I buy. So the fact that it was a small store and all the clothes are easily pick-through-able was a huge plus.
2. Super freindly/cute employees. I didn't know exactly what the disco era was like as I was 3 at the time and in the Philippines so I needed some help. They patiently described the fabrics, styles, and feel of that era.
3. The rock bottom prices. Case in point....
The second time I went to Mission Thrift, was for the upcoming RF80 party and the 2008 Holiday Season. I needed some formal wear. They have a wide selection of Tuxs and it took me a while to look through them, but then I found "it". An Oscar deLarenta jacket, and matching pants. Not only was it a find, it was the only one that fit! Obviously the stars were aligned and I was at the right place at the right time. So: Jacket, pants, shirt, bow tie, cuff-links: $68.
Dam, I'm good. -

It's one thing to own clothing that you know someone else has worn; it's quite another to proudly flaunt the embroidered name of the previous owner on your breast. Mission Thrift has a vast and unapologetic selection of personalized athletic and corporate gear that sadly hasn't seen the light of day for decades.
Thanks to Mission Thift, I can now be found masquerading around town as Sam Cuthbertson, '85-'86 little league hockey player from Anchorage, AK.
I would have gone for "Mark," Shell gasoline employee who received a Badge of Safety 3 years in a row or "Super Dan," billiards superstar from Bismark, ND, but Sam's $20 grey wool coat fit perfectly. -

An awesome thrift/ vintage store that rivals anything in Berkeley.
{Great Selection of:}
Hats, vintage, 80's, scarves (I have never seen more scarves anywhere), leg warmer/tights, sun glasses, ties, faux fur coats
{Good selection of:}
Boots, glitter club-wear, patches, leather jackets, 60's dresses
{Poor to none selection of:}
Costumes, gothic wear, current styles
I would recommend even Berkeley people head over here and take a look-see since even though their prices are higher, their selection is better than Mars or Sharks on telegraph.Listed in: Best and Worst Consignment /…

Mission Thrift is hands down my favorite thrift store in the city. The prices are decent and the clothes are well organized,. Haight Street's thrift stores gives me a headache. Jam-packed with 'professional' shoppers - throwing things around, paired with the 'vulture stance'; as you attempt to try things on. Mission Thrift knows how to do it right though. They're hip, relatively quiet - and I can always find something, casually browsing through their stuff.
Vintage has become so expensive and hyped as of late; that it's always very exciting to find quality cute peices, that are still affordable. Mission Thrift is a beautiful reminder of the days when thrift store shopping was fun.
Plus I find myself spending just a little bit longer browsing due to the great music which always seems to be playing in this place. This is also a perfect place to get second hand 'hand made' costumes around halloween time and great cowboy boots (will never go out of style) -

Holy moly, they have a section just for pirate stuff! And they had quite a few dirndls...grab 'em before Oktoberfest rolls around! And petticoats! Definitely gets points for uniqueness and spotting stuff for your next costume endeavor, though the selection for "normal" clothes is a bit small, as is the store in general. Folks who work here are quite friendly. I have to say that I bought a (New! said the tag) hat, which I promptly lost the next day because I am a clumsy, forgetful fool. But that's ok because it was only $5. Thrifting = great for people who tend to ruin/lose their stuff or suffer from terrible buyer's remorse.

Why is "thrift" in the name of this store? The hell? "Vintage Emporium," "Eclectic Clothing Atelier," or "Lots of Cherry-Picked Pre-Owned Stuff We Love" would be a helluva lot less misleading. They're big, they have a lot of stuff, and most (all?) of it is used - but that's where the resemblance to a thrift store ends. Ross is *considerably* cheaper than this place.
Don't get me wrong: if you know exactly what you want and are willing to pay a not-especially-low retail price for it, this is the place for you. It's freakishly well-organized (they have a section just for *dirndls*). I just don't believe anyone's donated this stuff, though - unless the owner has been quietly shopping at other thrift stores and amassing a collection for decades. It's more like a consignment store or one of the upscale vintage boutiques. Which, again, is FINE - but why would you call yourself "Mission Thrift," not "Mission Fancypants?"
I did a walk-through of the place, looked over the well-ordered clothes, then got my ass over to Thrift Town,* quickstyle. Won't be setting foot in this place unless I need a dress for the ball or something.
*(Yes, you could make an argument that "Thrift Town" has an equally misleading name, since it's not actually a town - but just don't.) -
Review from Joanne G.
Hello, organization. This store calls out to my minor OCD tendencies and I love it! Everything here is smartly categorized into their own little sections. Great place for used Halloween gear at awesome prices.
Cheerleading and band costumes? Right there. 70's hippie wear? Yep, here. Horrid 80's prom dresses? Come this way. Mexican wrestler masks? Oh, up on the wall.
Mission Thrift isn't just for costumes either- plenty of modern and cute used clothing for men and women, and all of it clean and nicely organized too.
New accessories at the counter: tights, socks, sunglasses, jewelery, wigs. All reasonably priced. -
Review from John G.
San Francisco, CA
So it's not really a "thrift" store, at least not in the usual terms. There's no charity benefit angle, it doesn't reek of grandmas and mothballs, and the staff and clientele are far younger and trendier than you might find at a frumpy thrift store like the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or even Out of the Closet.
So it's really more like a hipster vintage clothing emporium
However! Unlike so many other hipster vintage clothing emporiums, Mission Thrift doesn't try to violently rip money out of your wallet with its heinous price inflation. Sure, it's a few small bucks more than Thrift Town up the street...but the prices are totally fair considering these are hand-picked threads that are (a) in good condition, (b) helpfully arranged by style and era, and (c) might even help you get laid at super-faddish bars like the Phone Booth. Try that with a pair of musty old 49ers sweatpants you find at other thrift stores. Ain't gonna happen, bub. And anyone who goes to a competing vintage store and is stupid enough to pay $50 for a retro bowling shirt or $25 for an ironic 1987 Winger world tour t-shirt doesn't deserve to get laid anyway. -

I had high hopes for Mission Thrift after reading some of the glowing reviews here on Yelp. After finding rockstar parking right in front, I took my 2 1/2 year-old into one of those cheap Mission St. shops that has everything to pacify her with a toy stroller and babydoll, so that she would be entertained and while in the shop I could get down to thrifting business.
When I walked into the store, it looked like your usual thrift store complete with that old smell that some stores have. There was a girl behind the counter, who did not greet us or even glance in our direction initially. Now, I'm not a needy shopper, but I do think it's just bad manners not to speak to someone as they walk in. Fine. Someone else came in after me and she chatted away with him.
The clothing is organized, so if you are looking for something specific then it will be easy to find, which is a positive for sure and the only reason I gave this place 2 stars. I looked at a few different pieces and all were stained (yes, ALL of them) and $10.00 for a stained skirt is just too much, especially when I can find designer duds or good condition vintage at Goodwill for less. I get the heeby jeebies from stained clothing. While an avid vintage chick and seasoned thrifter, I still can't get over putting something grossly stained up for sale. In fact, I have a vintage eBay store and I would NEVER sell something dirty or stained. But, that's just me. Turned off from touching anymore clothing I started in on the shoes.
The entire time, my 2 year-old was busy pushing her baby around and behaving perfectly. Perhaps its me and my San Francisco "we hate kids in this city" paranoia, but I swear the girl behind the counter started staring at us in a very uncool and unfriendly way. I got one of those vibes that we just weren't wanted there or even worse, like we were being watched as if we would steal a stained $10 skirt because, don't you know, all women of color with kids who shop at thrift stores in the Mission steal.
Convinced I was just being uber sensitive, I continued to look at the shoes. They did have a great selection, although nothing that I liked in my size. There were vintage heels and tons of boots and most in very decent condition. Still, that sinking "we're not wanted here" feeling sat in the pit of my stomach like a Denny's breakfast. I looked at purses, directly in front of the cashier area and finally had enough, grabbed my 2 year-old by the hand, and headed out. The girl behind the counter, big surprise, didn't thank us, ask if we found what we were looking for or anything.
I will never go back to that store again. It was over priced and I have a high distain for stained clothing and nor do I like getting weird vibes or feeling like I'm being watched. I have had much better success and have been treated much better elsewhere in the city. -

It's fun to shop here. For a thrift store, this place is super organized. Lots of fun things to look at.
My gripes? I saw a lot of stained and torn clothing. I bought a dress I fell in love with, but have some minor sewing repairs to make before I can wear. I thought for what I saw, the clothes were a bit over priced.
And I too felt like I was watched like a hawk. Even after I checked in my purse. I used to run a store and know what its like to deal with and watch for shoplifters, but there is a fine balance between making your customers feel welcomed and making them feel awkward.
Not my top favorite place to thrift in the city, but it's still a great place to shop. It's a tight squeeze all throughout the store so be prepared. -

Mission Thrift is the best on the block. Its a little expensive compared to other stores in the area, but it is worth it because their clothing is pre-screened by real hipsters to ensure that the clothes that end up on the rack will get you some of that hot hipster 'tang you came all the way from the Marina for. Ok. That wasnt very nice, but I think its funny so it stays. Read reviews by Naomi and Jessica if you want useful.
Want a black D.A.R.E. shirt? They are basically guaranteed to be in stock. Plus they have a great collection of accessories behind the counter. What I like the most about this place is the amount of clothes they managed to fit into such a small store. I only hope that the polyester shirt rack they keep by the door doesnt ever get lit on fire. -

This is literally my favorite thrift store ever!
They have cool stuff for any occasion: Halloween, 80s parties, ugly sweater parties, bay to breakers, etc....
I first discovered it while looking for a Halloween wig for my custom 3 years ago when I moved back into the city. It smells like a thrift store but it is sooo much more. There are wigs, tutu's, gloves, fishnets, hats, clown outfits, and even vintage brand name shoes. I found a pair of Stuart Weitzman's (My absolute favorite shoe designer in the world!!!) when he was still designing for Mr. Seymour. And I wore them for Halloween '09 in NYC!
Today I bought two hats, both quasi fedoras' but with bigger rims. I need it since I've become more aware of sun damage to my face and need the protection. But I'm not going with any old hat, I need ones with style and sophistication; and that will also universally match my outfits. One cream color and one black. I'm sure I'll be sporting these around town till the next season of hats catches on. Then back to Mission Thrift I go.
But a forewarning, some of their items are not cheap at all. I once bought a brand new two piece bikini for $60 and I've only wore it twice. So bring lots of money, you'll spend it all, promise. -

Here's the other favorite. Oh, i get the nervous shopping jitteries when I go in here..like 'hmm, how long can i stay without driving my friend crazy?' ya, it gets that bad.
It's thrift paradise. I have never left empty handed. Even if it's one of those lazy days when i don't want to try something on- the counter gets me- COSTUME JEWELERY here I come. It's all here... fake gold, crazy earrings, belt buckles, jelly bracelets, you got it. It's a must do before any themed party.
I'm just so thankful this shop is on Mission, and not Valenica. I like to pretend it's my secret closet no one has to know about...Oh, and they recently added an array of new tights! I found some Pucci inspired ones! hot damn, girrrrrrlfren -

This place is pretty cool. I'll probably shop here for costumes or maybe (maybe) special occasion clothes. Oh and as far as costumes go, check out the wigs! Not somewhere I (personally) will find much day to day wear, but I did find a cute vintage tee. Which was also super cheap.

Yet ANOTHER one of my favorite vintage shops in this city. I REALLY MISSED "true" thrift and vintage shopping while living in the big apple.
So far, I've always found great buys here. My latest gold mine this past week, is this SWEEEEET red suede "A line" cut jacket. Tres mod! I snapped it off the rack quicker than the blink of an eye as I saw this lady's hands going for it. If you're "that lady" and you're reading this review, no hard feelings:)
I always find a lot of very cool shorts and old-school t-shirts here. There NEVER seems to be a shortage of those!
If you wear boots, this place is for you. The staff is friendly and have been helpful to me whenever I'm in there shopping.
Great place in the city for thrifting. -

This place is the greatest, and we hit a lot of great thrift stores on Saturday, my new friends from Modesto and I. Weird vintage fashions like dresses made of quilts and bell bottoms with faux fur bells and cool cat woman glasses abound, while sheep people in the window confound all attempts at explanation. Murakami would be proud.
We were concerned about the safety implications of space heaters buried inside the racks of clothing but it did make trying on coats very pleasant indeed on this winter day!
Most enjoyable was that the employees here are very nice and accommodating, and will let you play with things you have no intention of buying to your heart's content. They didn't even flinch when I lost all the coat hangers or when the girls got out 20 pairs of glasses. A fun place! -

This place is crazy and i like it. Does that mean i am crazy too? When you go here you have to plan to dig. I have not bought something from here yet, but i plan on it. This store is really not my style, i am what you would call a modern day Jackie-O. This is like grunge, meets 1950's crazy house mom, meets 1970's disco queen. I def will go here for my halloween costume. I would go here for regular clothes as well, if only i can gather up the courage to dig, and dig, and dig.

aka- my extended closet of awe-inspiring random shizzle. And most importantly, it handles the #1 cause of hair pulling, nail biting drama in the amazingly whack and diverse city. You all know this problem it is, (drum roll please) trying to put together an awe-inspring costume for the halloween/70s party/80s party/witness protection program event that you just got invited to (of course, if you're like me, you lack the inspiration to go with such an invitation).
Enter mission thrift. They literally have everything one could dream of, at RIDCULOUSLY LOW, LOW, LOW PRICES!!! (yes, that was the monster truck-athon announcer voice you just heard through your browser)
But seriously, if you need a plumber jumpsuit? yeah MT's got your back. Fairy wings- MT won't judge you, just hook you up. Lederhosen? Danke schon MT.
They have a Pirate Clothing section people, nuff said. Mission Thrift- without you in my game, i'm the weakest link. -

I was going to say that Mission Thrift is just one of my favorite thrift stores in the city but after careful consideration I have to say, confidently, that it is actually my very favorite! I'm an actor, performer and costume designer for the Hypnodrome Theater (http://thrillpeddlers.com) here in SF and an avid thrift store shopper on my own and Mission Thrift is the one place I can always find the things that other stores just don't have or are selling for too much. And there are always jewels to find whenever I visit.
As resident Costume Mistress for 'Pearls Over Shanghai', our hit show that we've been performing for over 6 months now, I needed sailor top's - 6 of them at least. I found a few here and there, but they were the cheaply made lame Halloween costume type things and expensive. I finally found a couple of the perfect shirts at a place I visit in the Haight but their prices are ridiculously high - they wanted nearly $50 a shirt.
Mission Thrift had more sailor shirts than I even need so I was able to have a choice of which ones I picked (important for sizing). The shirts at Mission Thrift were all made of the same great quality and authenticity as the other pricey store in the Haight, but for only $13 a pop! It was such a relief as the opening date was coming up and it was crunch time to get the show fully costumed.
I love Mission Thrift and recommend the store to anyone looking for a thrift/vintage store with super friendly staff and a great selection. And yes, they do have a dressing room ;-) -

For a quasi-adult on a budget thrift stores are a great place to find what you're looking for.. for a price just short of a steal. I like this place, but keep in mind it has an "AS-IS" kind of selection. Don't expect the clothes to be dry cleaned, boots polished or dirt to be removed. Do expect to find some interesting duds and outrageous ones too. If you need an indian tunic, old uniforms, 80's dress made of tulle or even a silk kimono - you'll definitely find something that you're going to have to disinfect when you get home. I do have to commend them for their amazing organizational skills. It's a small place, but man! - I have the human PDA gene encoded into my DNA ... so I appreciate the store's use of space, color coordination and categorization ... it is simply amazing!
Just remember to turn on the blinders for the vast amounts of junk you'll inevitably encounter, but with just a lil' bit of patience you'll occasionally unearth just what your looking for at a great price. Prices are a bit high for second-hand, around $15-30. It's not like the 25 cent store I had as a kid that's for sure. So whether you're a treasure hunter, trendy hipster, cheap ass or need to release your inner creative monster - mission thrift is one of the better shops in the 'hood to stop in. -

AAAAH! Yes! Finally! A thrift store that actually has some decent selection!
I grew up in the country slash small town area of the North Sac Valley (I think it sounds more exciting and different than simply saying, Red Bluff). Thrift store shopping there was pretty much rumaging through old Round Up Rodeo tshirts (which I already owned) and old little league jerseys (which I had already owned and grown out of). At Mission Thrift there was so much to choose from and definitely a great place for last minute Halloween Costumes (or Thursday Night Costumes, whatev).
They also have excellent accessories and very reasonable prices than other "vintage" shops I've been too. I even bought an old little league jersey!
