A new Haiku:
The food is not bad =)
Patio view is stunning =)
Loud bass ruins my sleep =(
Used to eat there for brunch, but now that I live close enough to have to deal with the loud parties, I think I've sadly developed a case of the screwyous.
Went tonight and will defnitly not be back anytime soon. 0 beer selection - 4 crappy cans to choose from. Miller Genuine Draft cans - are you serious??? The staff was more interested in themselves and their buddies (dudes loving dudes) than anything else.
Crappy location (on the water is good, but not good enough to make up for the rest), crappy staff, HORRIBLE bar scene and overall weak effort. This place should close down.
I had to divide the stars up between restaurant and nightclub.
4 stars for the food....even though the service could almost be classified as BAD, the food compensated for it. For example, it really took forever for water. Huge no-no.
Props for the food....it was actually very good. The wedge was great, as was the spicy cuban and the accompanying french fries.
Servers gladly brought out umbrellas for us upon our near-sunburned skin.
3 stars for the nightclub:
18 and up is just not my thing. It completely lowers the quality of the venue. Although Kelly's was spacious and clean during the day, it seemed dirty and crowded at night.
Kelly's had an amazing DJ lineup the night I went (Santiago of Santiago & Bushido, Mark Farina, Deron Delgado, Diz, Green Velvet just to name a few).
Another pro would be the large outdoor areas....or maybe that was just good so I could get away from the people under 21.
I went here for the Thriller rave on Friday and it was pretty rad. =)
There is an outside patio/dock area where you're literally right on the water, it's so beautiful and refreshing! Definitely great when you need a break to cool down and get away from the heat inside the building.
The different levels made is nice, you can mix it up and don't end up just standing in one spot all night. The view from the upper level is so nice...big windows overlooking the bay. =)
Not sure how the food is because the cafe section was closed at the time.
I didn't see a parking lot but we easily found parking on the street, didn't have to walk far at all.
Lots of fun, cool people no stupid drama and from what I've heard it's usually really cheap to get into events here. The building style/design [inside and outside] is pretty cool and unique.
Definitely a place to check out when you're bored on a Friday night!
I have never really hung out at this spot, since it's WAY on the other side of town, but I did like the set up and the location, which is right next to The Ramp. But, since they never did much live music, I'd only been inside maybe twice, and one of those was for a wake after the funeral of a dearly departed friend.
Recently, however, there's been a change in ownership and management, and the new regime wants to do live music, particularly my brand of Hard 'n' Heavy.
So, I received a call to meet with said ownership/management to discuss the idea, and to see if I'd like to get involved.
Right away, I was impressed with the friendly, open and no-nonsense approach of the new Boss. I signed on immediately.
Since then, we've become good friends, and we put on a great REALITY CHECK TV Live Showcase Event, with SAINTS OF RUIN, RUBBERSIDEDOWN and THE BUTLERS. The new Boss loved it, despite only moderate attendance. We'll be doing more TBA!
As far as the particulars--a brand-new, kick ass sound system that equals or surpasses ANY rig in SF. Believe me, I know the difference.
There's a top-notch kitchen also, and as someone who does a lotta cooking, the food rocks. I had blackened catfish for lunch at one of our meetings, and it was superlative.
All in all, I'm glad the ROCK is coming to Mission Rock, and I'm proud to be a part of it. Thanx to all at MRC!!!
I came here for a private event, so I don't really know how the food is, or what it is like on a normal club night, but wow did we have a great time!
4 stars for the AMAZING setting and view!
I will have to try this out on a normal night and update ;)
Okay so I came here a long time ago (back when I was still an undergrad in college), but i have good memories of this place. I like this venue because it is a very nice waterfront location. So I was here for a fraternity event and I remember having a lot of fun. The bouncers were cute & my friends and I danced the night away. I don't think I had any food here (it was being rented out for a private event) but the drinks were good and alcohol was flowing (open bar that night!). hehehe.... okay this is definitely not much of a review, I just remember the name of this place and it was fun... good times, good times :) oh yes as a final note ~ the DJ was good too (the music was fun)
I had heard bad things about the staff here, but thought I'd give it a shot anyways. Bad call.
Turned into one of the worst music venue experiences I've ever had. Got out of the cab with an empty beer to throw away at the door. The d-bag spikey haired bouncer proceeded to lecture me on how I almost cost him "his" liquor license and told me I couldn't come in. For real? As I was standing at the door asking him to reconsider, he threatened to fight me and/or call the cops. Their loss, as I was there with 7 other folks all excited to pay cover and drop cash at the bar. They demanded their cover money back, and we split.
Ended up walking for ages to find a cab, but then going over to the Boom Boom Room, which was awesome as always. The band I was going to see finished up at Mission Rock and came to the Boom Boom to finish up with a late night set anyways, so all was good in the world. Except Mission Rock. Fuck that place.
We went here for brunch and each ordered an entree (I created my own omelet, yum) but then on top of that we shared the french toast. The french toast was a show stopper. It was fantastic. Magic in fact. The service was slow but we spent the time looking at the crabs hanging out on rocks (wow, we are boring...) and just enjoying our surroundings. It's not every day I get to eat outside with water below me and on three sides of me. We had some drinks with brunch too and the bill was entirely reasonable. I love brunch. What an amazing meal.
WHACK WHACK WHACK
out in the boonies, and there's a reason for that! security sucks. they think they tight but no! a row of about 10 cars got broken into and not one security guard outside noticed anything. not worth the cover. there are definitely better bars AND clubs downtown worth your money and trust.
Great friendly staff, new environment and excellent brunch food. I've been at least 5 or 6 times, on Sunday mornings, and absolutely love the food, the service, the friendly staff, the cocktails and the ambiance.
One of the best kept secrets in the city!
I came here for a casting call event that included rotating DJ's spinning, models getting photos taken and a cat-walk audition.
I liked the architecture (industrial) and the view of the Bay was incredible. I hear that the patio area isn't normally opened very long, but we got some special treatment for whatever reason. I sat on one of the leather sofas out there and was surprised to find that it was warm - strategically positioned underneath a heat lamp! Clever.
This place was a little small for a night-club, but it reminded me a lot of my raver days (all of about 6-months-worth) back in St. Louis.
Three stars for incredibly cheap (but well-made) drinks.
Fabulous event, thank you, Madi!
Mai, I'll see you on June 12th...
Sonny... I look forward to those pictures, yo.
This place is so far from everything, had a cover charge, and over priced their crappy drinks, and when i went there is was filled with a bunch of kids who did not know how to handle themselves. I saw a few kids leaning over to throw up outside.
This place was definitely not my idea of fun.
Douchey.
And if there's a hierarchy of douches (with "Medicated Tropical Splash Ultra" on one end and "generic saline solution" on the other), this is the vinegar enema.
Bouncer looked me up and down and made a point of saying i had the 'wrong shoes'. Since I saw others in sneakers (and brand-emblazoned t-shirts, gaudy sunglasses on their gelled heads) getting waved in, I asked him why. he blinked hard, something sloshed in his head, and he said "your shoes are.... boots. like work boots" (they were not at all). Right. and what was he trying to imply? that I'm a 150 pound Asian day-laborer? I don't know. But they distinctly left the impression there was not a lot I could do to get in, shoes notwithstanding.
People who love this place obvously feel that the cab fare necessary to get to a remote warehouse parking lot of adds urban panache to the nightlife experience and have strong opinions about electronic DJs. And clearly I will go to my grave having no idea what it means to have truly lived, and now never will thanks to my choice in footwear.
Thank you, Shoes.
Service= very friendly but very slow...lucky the sun was out and we were enjoying each others company
Food= average brunch fair
Atmosphere= basic patio seating
Homo factor= seemed like mostly families of tourists
Price= average
Hostess=friendly.
Bathroom= clean and very vegas stylish
It's clear that there are two VERY different crowds that come to Mission Rock. The club types and the music types. I happen to be one of the latter and this is one of my favorite spots in the city to see live electronic music. In the past 6 months or so, the club has been bringing in some really good djs and some live bands and mcs. I am glad since this spot needs to be taken advantage of! The views from the many balconies are beautiful and the heat lamps outside let you chill out there for as long as you want and not get the chills :) The dickhead security from before when the new booking agent came in, has been let off it seems. The club is much more friendly if you ask me.
Love the vibes every time I come here. Maybe why my review differs from the others is because I have never been here on a "club" night.
Out in the boonies, this place seems daunting when you first approach it.
Massive dub was playing all night the night I went; the sound is INCREDIBLE. Because of its location, the sound was at its purest, loud enough to satisfy even the most bass hungry dancers like myself.
The patio/deck area had a lazer light show going on, lighting the waters and the dock with some insanely bright green beams of amazing.
This is a place where memories of a crazy night out in the middle of what seems nowhere are made inside The City. Highly recommended!
This review is for the club.. 10PM to 8AM although I stumbled out at around 5.
The crowd was hippyish and unconventional. I liked that. I also loved the outdoor dance floors. The thing is, the main indoor dance floor was pretty small. And it was rectangular in shape so you can't really spread out around the front.. you're either way too close or way too far. The speakers and lights are only in the front so near the back you don't get the full experience.
I wouldn't go back here but if you're into that "Mighty Club" kinda "Burning Man" crowd then this place is for you. I think I actually prefer something a little less grungy myself.
Lots of outdoor smoking. Weird belly dancers. Potheads. You get the gist of it I'm sure.
good food. good service.
fun to go to brunch or even dinner on a nice day.
if its nice.. .go!!!
atmosphere: chill.. low key
I love the sunday's bruch here.... unlimited mimosas and friendly waitress. I enjoy specially when the day is warm and sunny
If you want outdoor eating on the Bay in SF, FIVE STARS! Food is basic brew pup fare. Drinks are yummy.
I really, really wanted to go to this place today. However, even though I was already lubed, a $30 cover on a goddamned Sunday + people in line that scream douchebag = a place that Sean will never ever go again. Just go to the ramp instead (http://www.yelp.com/bi... $5 cover, and a lot more fun given that is right next door.
Why, why WHY did Kelly's change their brunch menu? This has been a staple brunch spot for my crew because of the ample parking, proximity to our hoods, outdoor seating and decently-equipped menu.
It's an excellent atmosphere for a warm sunny day with bay views and chillin with a mimosa or a Hefeweizen. BUT--I do not dig the new menu. I used to frequent the mushroom ragout scramble but the last couple of times I've eaten there I was underwhelmed.
Side note though, I went to a wedding there and it is indeed a cool spot for a party and the lobster pot pies were decadent.
Bring back the old menu, pleeeeeease!
This is for the nightclub. I didn't even know they served food! Haha
I went here for a fundraiser for PAHC at Cal a while back. It was like $15 or something for a ticket and Supreme Soul from ABDC was performing.
Ok. While in this LONG LINE to get in (it took like 40 minutes) there were three fights! WHACK! That's what happens when you go to an 18+ club with no dress code I guess. Those fights held up the line every time and it was getting a bit ridiculous.
Finally got in and went into the bar area which was very spacious seeing that the majority of the folks were not 21 (whatever, that's cool). Anywho I was talking with a friend and asked where Supreme Soul was and it turns out I was standing right next to one of the members! Haha ... they performed. It was not even that good because the stage was hella small anyways. Went up on the stage afterwards to take pictures with them even though I had to ask my friend who was even in the group!
Oh and there were some girls promoting something and they used these lollipops to do it. OK I got hit by like two of them! WTF!!! No I did not want any!
Overall though it was fun AFTER we got in. That's mostly due to the fact that I was with some good folks though. Parking was easy to find as it's the only thing open in that area at that time of night.
1/4 star for the service : Super Slow (why do you put my beer on a plastic glass, then prepare 7 other cocktails to other non related people, get their CC , put my beer away because you took sooooo long you can't recall it and then when the light comes you give me finally my glass?)
1/4 star for the waiting line: Huge line for no reason (or maybe for a reason, see bellow)
1/4 star for making that 10 of my friends "were done for the night" ( did not let them in for no apparent reason)
1/4 star for over selling tickets for the place ($30/each) and then to be impossible, not to mention DANGEROUS to be inside ( and to make it even cozier they did not open the ground floor)
Nightclub review only:
I used to really like this place -- and it just went downhill. I have been to this place maybe 20+ times and each time got worse and worse. I don't know what happened. The line gets held for WAYYY TOO LONG every time and for NO REASON at all. The bartenders suck and the bouncers are so rude.
Also, the music is just OK. It all just isn't worth it anymore.
I read the Yelp reviews and thankfully didn't listen to the negative ones. It was great! We went for a Saturday lunch and were greeted immediately. Our server was nice and quick. I had the Cuban pork sandwich. Dee lish. It goes excellent with a Bloody Mary, which they happen to make well. I will definitely go back!
I'm reviewing the nightclub.
I won 2 tickets to see Kardinal Offishal, thru 94.9FM on July 4th, 2008, so I decided that I would go. I just moved to San Francisco with my husband at the end of April 2008, so this was our first time out at a club. It was a pretty nice size, and the view was beautiful, but it was definitely crowded with all sorts of different people, and the neighborhood is definitely sketchy. Thankfully there were 4 of us, so we just stuck together and ended up leaving shortly after midnight. They played great music, but I never did get to see Kardinal Offishal because it was never announced where he would be, so that's why we left early. Ah well! Overall it's an okay place... they say that they enforce a dress code, but from what I saw, they don't really.
This review is for my club experience here:
DO NOT COME TO THIS WACK ASS CLUB!!
The location of the club is straight up in the boonies.. near all the warehouses. A group of us came here for our friends birthday.. there were 2 levels.. first level seemed kind of small.. I think they were having some kind of rap battle downstairs... upstairs there was a dancefloor.. seemed kinda cramped... there was a mixed crowd.. kind of ghetto venue.. you get a view of the dirty nasty ocean water along with storage boats.
Overall, did not have a good time here.. I felt extremely bored.. and I believe the drink prices were way expensive than other clubs.
My friend also told me that when he was in the bathroom someone got beat up for taking a dump in one of the stalls. Not a fun experience for that poor guy.
I repeat.. DO NOT COME TO THIS VENUE.. waste of time and money and not a very pleasant experience!!!!! Also, some stupid guy that worked for the club started yelling at me out of nowhere.. slammed the window shut in front of my face...and then went and cried to security to kick me out..
PLEASE, let me excuse myself out of your wack ass club.
THis place blows. one star is too much. There isn't a zero star option.
I went here to see Pnuma Trio. They are a sweet band. The door guys were such douche bombs that I stopped our group at the door and considered not going in at all. Talk about a VIBE KILLER.
Bar tenders were tools.
The 'security' wore suits and didn't do jack shit when friend almost got in a fight. He was texting someone and trying to look cool.
This place has not changed a lick since it was a destination for 'Second Sundays' .
I wouldn't go here, not even to see your favorite band.
If you are in a band, don't be offended when no tickets are sold. You're better of busking on a street corner.
Don't GO HERE!!!!
FOR THE CLUB ONLY
Came here Saturday for the Battle of the ABDC and although the place is actually not bad, I wish I went somewhere else. This place was not packed AT ALL. They have two dance areas, one downstairs and one up stairs. I like how they have the balcony and the outside area with a view, that's probably the best part.
The dance area wasn't so big and it still couldn't get packed! Drinks were OK but a bottle of water for $3? DAMN! Should of just took one from home and stick it in a guys pants or something!
I probably wouldn't want to come here again.
I hadn't been to Kelly's in ages, so met some friends who worked in the neighborhood here for lunch. The highlights: (1) it was an amazing day and it is so nice to be able to eat outside in San Francisco; (2) the waitress was great as I waited for my friends who were running late. The lowlights: (1) long wait for food; (2) food just barely OK (we had burgers and fish and chips, which should be hard to ruin); and (3) the bathrooms were a mess (they had just opened, so they must not have cleaned up from the night before).
If I do come back, it will be for drinks only.
I haven't been here for.....WOW 4 years, and a lot has changed since then. I just had my 22nd bday here a few ago, and I did have a lot of fun, even though there were some complications, but that has nothing to do with KMR. The place is spacious, the venue is really nice, and the upstairs out door patio is great. Nice leather couches, and what a great view of the bay when you're drunk.
One thing about this place though... the security. They are on a power trip 247. I was just trying to get my bottle service set up here, and they kept telling me to get back in-line. I didn't so they gave me a 5 minute time out. Didn't argue with him, because their's no point! Don't even try to cut in line... they'll catch you. He caught every single person that cut in line and told them to go to the back, and if you don't he'll just call you out and embarrass you. Pretty FUNNY! hahaha
I came here for Brazilian Night on Sunday with my token Brazilian. Theo wanted to expose me to the music and the style of dancing but still make it a chill and early night.
Mission accomplished at the Mission Rock.
Besides being in BFE, this place is pretty cool since it's on the waterfront. However, the sound system isn't all that although the particular bands we saw made up for it and I give them an "A" for effort. It was a really relaxed feeling party with a positive vibe. I will say that I was probably the ONLY non-Brazilian there though LOL.
Which is okay because my Brazilian wax totes makes up for it!
I recently came here for a stellar lineup (Mark Farina and a bunch of the Om Records crew) on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It probably would've been a great time if the venue hadn't been severely oversold. I could barely move around inside and it just got old having sweaty people rubbing against me and spilling beer on me every two seconds. Honestly, why can't venues just cap ticket sales at a decent amount of people?
On another note, the crowd here definitely isn't a local one. It felt like I was at an amateur bodybuilder/car show model convention. Next time I think I'm going to skip this place.
This place made me feel like I was a bad guy character on Law and Order or maybe SVU or a mobster. Why, you may wonder? Well, you try driving down a long seemingly deserted looking stretch of road by the docks whilst passing industrial looking buildings to "meet" with someone for "brunch" and wonder if there really is a "brunch" or if I you're actually being led into a "confrontation" with Johnny "Big Guns" DeMarco.
Once I found the place and left my 9mm in the glove box I through my long trench coat and angled fedora on and went in and looked around. It was definitely pretty empty on the ground floor and again, I started looking for Guido "Mister Happy" Lombardi or Tony "I Already Told Ya Fuggin Two Times" Moretti, but instead I found my way upstairs and found a lovely server and a nice bartender that showed me towards the patio.
It was one of those perfect SF days too. The weather was choice, the skies blue, and I didn't even see any dead bodies floatin in the Bay! Once my party arrived that consisted of two adults and two youngins, we enjoyed the culinary offerings and a few mimosas to boot. I understand this joint is a club at night, which sounds terrible to me since I hate people bumping and grinding all around me to music that matches my high blood pressured pulse, but for a Brunch spot, I was very delighted and pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back.
It's not touristy at all and I would like to keep it that way....so don't come here tourists or I'll sick "the boys" on ya and I don't fawkin think you want that! hehe
Lunch review!
We went in for a birthday lunch and sat outside. The prices were decent, the food was delicious (I had the veggie burger and some calamari). I enjoyed the outdoor seating and since it wasn't too busy, our server was attentive as was the running staff. I will certainly go back for another nibble on a nice day!
Late lunch on a Wednesday, with mom, on a sunny day outside above the wharfs and Bay waters.
Enjoyed the Ahi Tuna on Salad (with Bull's Blood greens giving it spice!) and the Cuban Pork Sandwich on Greens. Both nicely executed, tasty and fresh.
Mission Rock service went out of their way, it was excellent, personal and outstanding; thanks, Kate!
The Espresso was generous, and thoughtfully accompanied by a curly, zesty lemon rind.
All together the perfect lazy lunch in post-industrial surroundings, quiet and unhurriedly.
We'll be back for sure; the brunch looks very tempting...
For brunch, not worth it. The Ramp is right down the street and has better seating, better food, and better parking.
The "spicy" pulled-pork Cuban was not spicy, and was also kind of cold.
DISCLAIMER: i have only been here for raves.
first off. ridiculously obscure location. which is awesome for us crazy kids.
it is right by the water, hell, OVER, the water which is fun cause it leaves you thinking "i can dive off this bitch and do a front flip and if i land on my face well at least its just water right?" anyway.
i like the multi room layout and double decker style. it makes walking around fun and adventurous since the setting is always changing.
the bouncers have always been chill. a buddy of mine was caught smoking i dunno like...300 blunts or something and was promptly kicked out. only to casually walk back in an hour later.
the outdoor section is a Nice escape form the craziness of indoors. the walls of the place on the backside are all windows so you can see all the action going on inside when you are out smoking a stoge (or 300 blunts).
only small time DJs play here. but doesnt mean they dont play big time music.
every time ive gone here to rave it has been ridiculously fun.
aside from the night i had 18 speed pills. yikes!
now for the few of you reading this thinking "raves? what the hell?" or "PSYCHO KID" or "yeah mission rock is tight i think ive seen you there with all the chicks on you!" well. where am i going with this...oh ya. id say check out a nicer spot for a Legit rave experience. this place is just an excuse to have a good time and get fucked up on anything.
its cheap.
its loud.
cool location.
cool people.
always a cool experience.
this one time, at mission rock..........
