My boyfriend and I stayed here for a few days while on our road trip through California going to Las Vegas. I wasn't really into spending too much money on the hotel but didn't want to be in a totally miserable place either. The Mission Inn is exactly what I was looking for.
It's a reasonably short drive to San Francisco; and although the neighborhood may seem a bit sketchy, I didn't feel like I was in any real danger. The motel itself is just that, a motel. If you expected anymore then I think you'll be vastly disappointed. My only necessity was to have a place to crash and get ready in the morning, and this place served my need for that perfectly. Also I loved the fact that there was an El Farolito Taqueria (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) down the street as well, such good burritos!
All-in-all the staff was friendly, the room was clean, there was cable TV, and they even provided a continental breakfast in the morning! If you're looking for a place to stay on a really limited budget, I'd definitely recommend the Mission Inn.

my friend used to work here so i'm giving it an extra star. definitely not for tourists...more for people who want a quiet place to get high.
we brought some girls here to hang out with and maybe do stuff. the place was so old and creepy (and the fact that it's in a less than desirable area near the border of sf/dc), the girls didn't want to stay long.
but hey it was free!
I had to stay at this motel for a week when I first moved to San Francisco and it was a nightmare. I felt like I was always being watched by the people who worked there and area is less then desirable. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
