Truly one of my favorite events in the city.
When an event is curated by a seriously on point and passionate planner - then all participants just naturally seem to reflect that same energy.Such is the case with Mission Indie Mart.
Kelly Malone is such an inspirational and warm person that her enthusiasm is contagious. At every Mission Indie Mart that I have attended - no matter what the weather - Kelly radiates life and as a result the whole cast of vendors that she brings on board, carries that burst of life and goodness into their own booths.
Mission Indie Mart always has the most wonderful assortment of goods and booths. From delicious home-made scones, to fabulous feather earrings, to rockin' unique SF Giants wear, to a slew of outstanding local bands as well.
I always walk away from this event feeling inspired and more excited about San Francisco. Mission Indie Mart does an exceptional job of showcasing some of the most glorious and creative local merchants in the area and mostly it's just a ton of fun.

This year was my first attending the Mission Indie Mart; can it be the Mission even though that's Potrero? Whatever, this is a pretty cool craft fair. It was different from what I was expecting. I did have expectations of this being a bigger to-do than it was, but I'm glad it wasn't. I'm getting a bit tired of overly crowded neighborhood fairs. This was a craft fair spread over about a (large-ish) block next to Thee Parkside bar. This was a little bit more informal affair compared to the other recent arts and craft fairs that I've attended this summer. That was a pleasant contrast because I think it made everyone just more relaxed.
What did differ between this one and all the others was that there was a "door" charge of 3$. Not a lot, but frankly it is something that I usually avoid if I'm going somewhere to spend money on products. I just felt a bit awkward because I invited friends and none of us had expected this extra cost. Oh well, not a huge deal. At least I found some cool, affordable stuff --- accessories that I had actually been dreaming of (weird).
I am glad that the crowd itself was a teensy more diverse than I had expected, as were the vendors themselves. It wasn't completely a hipster-fest, but kinda close. That's ok, everybody was pretty cool anyway. The vendors were friendly, talkative (I love that --- makes me wanna buy stuff) and willing to bargain (_that_ actually makes me buy stuff). There were a couple of djs, but it wasn't terribly annoyingly loud (as long as I kept a reasonable distance) and I liked the music anyway. -

Hands down Indie Mart is the best place to find amazing little gems from very creative and local artists. I was Introduced to Mission Indie Mart 2 years ago and have attended almost everyone of the events. I never leave disappointed and i always find wonderful stuff. The Vendors are always friendly and who doesn't love a PBR while shopping!
Everyone is always so chill and easy going. Kelly Malone i believe is the women behind all this and she is kicking some serious ass and helping local artists get plenty of exposure!
I look forward to some more indie mart in my life this summer. -

I adore Indie Mart. My only two complaints are: 1. I never have as much money as I'd like to spend (read: handmade or crafted things are expensive a lot of the time!) and 2. I don't live in the City so...wah, wah, wah I can rarely find the time to go.
That said, the vendors at Indie Mart range from fantastic (Secession Design, I love you) to the so-so (you shall remain nameless) and every visit is a whole new ball of wax with some repeating characters. Either way you are guaranteed to find something here you love (vintage jacket, big-ass shades, cheeky t-shirt, vegan cupcakes...) and leave with a big whole in your wallet! -

If it wasn't $3 entry, I would give this 5 stars. It kinda kills it that you have to pay to enter a parking lot filled with pretty pricey (but amazing) items.
But really, the assortment of items is amazing. I could have easily dropped $500 at this place, if I had $500. -

Indie Mart is blowin' up! After a leisurely brunch in the mish, we made our way over to The Independent for a little shopping, and daaaaang! You should have seen the line. There were 50 people lined up at the door waiting to get in and get a look at the retooled vintage dresses, funky handbags, lovely jewelry and more, all by local designers.
I'm not sure how often Indie Mart happens, but it's a great way to stock up on unique gifts for friends, and of course, yourself. Along with the other vendors who tend to show up to lots of these indie fairs, there were some interesting new faces... including a woman selling industrial strength bike messenger bags for girls - so cute! - and a talented artist who penned the dream catcher on my new tee.
Going to Indie Mart is the best way to get creative inspiration to boot... I always think, "oh, I could totally make that" and leave swearing that I will reinvent myself as a craft goddess who makes homemade gifts for all of her friends. Has it happened yet? Not so much. Still, inspiration has got to count for something!Listed in: Only in San Francisco., Clothes Shopping in San…

I bought a stuffed Ostritch here for $15! I'm not sure if it's real or not but if it's a fake, it's a good one! I'd have no question about it's authenticity but it's only 4 feet tall. I thought Ostritches were much taller than that? Maybe it's a baby?
There seemed to be plenty of stuff for hipster fashion slaves here.

oh Kelly, you got it going on girlfriend. If you don't know Kelly, she is a boisterous shop owner (Still Life) with a knack for turning what would normally be a mundane flea market into a Sunday Fun-Day at 12 Galaxies. Indie Mart is the place to be for that dead stock members only jacket or a one of a kind 'Cosby' scarf, made from garish sweaters so Huxtable-esque you swear you can smell the pudding pops.
Loads of jewelry designers and other trinket merchants make indie mart a welcome end to any month, plan birthdays, baptisms and bar mitzvahs around indie mart cus' this place has the best gifts around. I already bought my sisters baby gift and she ain't due till May.

What's not to love about the Mission Indie Mart?
It's free to get in. There are tons of super cool people just milling about. There are a dozen or so tables of affordable handmade tshirts and dresses and art and jewelry. There's cheap food and beers.
And if you're lucky, it will take place in a beautiful and sunny backyard garden in the Mission off Guerrero (where it has been the last two times).
And there will be some dude on a laptop blasting tunes through portable speakers.
One of these days I'm gonna actually make something and set up a booth...Listed in: Only in SF

I like Indie Marts.
Only things I would like to have added is that all vendors have biz cards out and noticeably available so that you can buy at your own whim.
And that vendors try to include a less expensive item as well as their big ticket items. People are going in there with money to burn ---- will burn a big portion at one table and not have enough to spend at two tables ............. and then will have to resist.
But if there were lowball items too -- keychains, pins, pens, etc that were each vendor's style and cost but $5 or so -- oh! the additional spending that could happen. Not to mention all the free advertising that would go hand-in-hand for the vendor.
Just my 2¢s -

So, I guess the person putting on the Indie Mart didn't like my review.
Rut ro!
This response is possibly the best *and worst* message I've received in a few years. I think you'll get my rating after you read this.
" i put it on. i thought your review was a bummer. im sad you didnt find rad stuff... I pride myself with having better and radder vendors than the other shows and try to avoid things with birds on it or overloads of feather earring vendors...they're are still out there bc they are popular... I get labeled a hipster and a hispter faire...many vendors i turn away for played out lame shit....i think its a really good stuff... mostly with rad stuff.
i like people that dont have a good experience to come back. its not a money thing, or some douchey business or anything, its me making this someplace i would want to shop and hang bc i think most stuff out there sucks.
...so though your review made me laugh, it doesnt as a business owner give me any real feedback to make it better. im sorry you didnt get to see all the rad stuff and the 98% of everything that didnt have bords on it:) theres a lot of rad folks with cool things there:) "
I'm glad my review made you laugh, your response makes me laugh too.
For the record I did give you feedback you could use to improve Indie Mart,
1. what was not "rad" was the very loud music over bad speakers right by vendors who couldn't hear you.
2. Try to have less s*&# with birds on it next year.
3. Venture out a bit and have more variety of items which we cant find in stores already in SF on a daily basis.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Mission Indie Mart is pretty dope! My boyfriend has been selling his handcrafted wares there for the past few months whenever it happens, and one of these times, I hope to join him and sell some of my own handmade goods, but for now I don't mind just helping him man (or "woman" in my case, I guess!) his table.
It's a great event to pick up gifts for people and support local artists and crafters. They usually have a DJ and a BBQ, and it's all in someone's back yard at Guerrero and 25th, but I heard that it's moving to 12 Galaxies, which should be cool, too. -

The only way you can get me to shop is if you get me a beer first. This means that most of my stuff comes from the Internet or the Indie Mart.
There's beer, handmade and vintage clothing, jewelry, artwork, handbags, and a lot of unique screen printed t-shirts. Sometimes there's cupcakes.
Bring cash - some vendors won't take credit cards. -

Summer solstice, the longest day of the year.
Mr. V and I took a nice stroll through the Mission, and out to Potrero.
Thee Parkside was the place to be for the 2nd Anniversary
of Indie Mart. The drinks were good and strong,
and the Djs were fantastic. Bands, organic treats, and lovely
crafts/clothing/jewlery by local artists.
The event hosted at Parkside, and Wisconsin St.
was closed to traffic making this a full fledged
dance-in-the-streets-with-your-margarita-and-your- little dog-streetfair.
Kelly Malone is one badass chick!
Not only did she pull off one of my fave Indie Mart events so far,
she also kept us updated through twitter.
Support local merchants!
Do yourself a favor and make it to the next event, you are sure to enjoy. . . -

It keeps on getting better.
So, I checked out the latest Indie Mart this weekend, and it was the best one i've attended yet. Many new vendors I hadn't seen before. New jewelry styles. The addition of more food vendors (F yeah to Angry Man Eats) besides Thee Parkway. More Porta Potties, or maybe I just noticed more. a little bit of kitzy but not too much. Adorable dogs. Good times.
Yes, some items are pricier then others. Yeah, some vendors you may give a side eye too like "what IS that they're selling?". If your smart, you do a loop around first to see what vendors are there and what the prices are. Then go back to your favorites and shop. There have been times i've spent as little as $30, and there have been times where i've spent $300.00+. It just depends on the selection. I do have favoMost vendors are still a cash only biz (hey, maybe someone who works at Square could hook up the indie vendors with info or help out with sponsorship... just a thought!) so stop at the atm or use the one they usually have on site. It seems also from my experience some vendors actually have better prices at Indie Mart then their websites or stores so you actually end up saving money in a lot of ways, so for all of you bitching about the suggested donation fee to enter grow up and grow a pair. I don't know where you've been but I will happily pay $3- whatever you can spare to shop, sip, and have fun while not being profiled or bored to tears staring at some vase that's going for the low low price of $300.00 like some street fairs in SF.
As for the hipsters, yes they are in attendance. And so are vintage buyers, mommies and daddies, dogs and cats, nerds, marina girls with martini breath, hood fabulous and regular folk. It's one of the few street market fairs that is fun every time and you always see something new.
My only suggestions is that there should be a partial list of vendors that will be in attendance or a picture album on the Indie Mart FB page dedicated to showing the various marts and vendors so that people have an idea of who will be there and what may be available for purchase. I would also like to see more local indie clothing designers who do more then t-shirts. Keep the indie food vendors as they are perfect for the event. Hopefully Indie Mart will grow to be as big as Off The Grid.
Anything is possible right?1 Previous Review: Show all »

I think I might be the first person to review this since it moved to 12 Galaxies? Anyway.
It was pretty cool. I only spent maybe 20 minutes there, but that's because I wasn't actually shopping, just wanted to check it out. There were a lot of people just hanging around, which I guess is cool, except it was CROWDED, so the combination of lots of people milling around shopping, and lots of people standing in one place talking, didn't really work that great for me.
There are a lot of really talented craftspeople and designers selling here. I especially liked the one booth selling handmade soaps (I forgot to pick up cards from people--argh!). My only real complaint is that there are a LOT of people--more than half of the booths, I think--selling screenprinted clothing. There's nothing wrong with screenprinted clothing, at all, and some of the stuff was really cool, but I would have liked to see more variety. More handmade jewelry, more accessories, more housewares, more art. Especially since the stuff like that that WAS there was really awesome.
I'll be back. And next time I won't be broke. Maybe. -

Oh this is one of my favorite new things about living in this city/ in the Mission. Amazing backyard spot off Guerrero, with lots of sweet clothes/jewels/boots/records/feathers/cool stuff for your house. Plus, my favorite part, hot dogs off the grill. mmmmm. And loads of other snacks and booze if that's your thing, but seriously, my favorite shopping atmosphere involves the consumption of like 4 hot dogs over the course of one hungover afternoon. bliss.
update - now at 12 Galaxies - snacks weighted more toward pies and granola, less toward home-stewed vodka watermelon and delights from the grill. boooo.Listed in: Meat stick

I went for the first time this Sunday and was nothing short of impressed.
There were local designers with tons of items, from vintage clothing, to unique clothing designs, purses and jewelry...oh the jewelry! There were also crafts from lots of local small businesses and nick nacks everywhere you turned at very reasonable prices.
This is an amazing way to freshen up your look, get new stuff, mingle with an awesome and friendly crowd and enough a beer while doing it!

We hopped over to Indie Mart at The Independent yesterday after a fabulous early dinner at nearby Little Star Pizza.
The vendors and customers were super-friendly & cheery, the music was fun, and the wares were unique and high-quality.
We munched on some great cupcakes, picked up two of L'Aromatica's lovely perfumes and 3 of her soaps, and are considering commissioning some art from one of the amazing artists there.

I just vended at my first ever Indie Mart at the Independent, so that's my disclaimer, but I have no reason to give props other than that they are deserved.
Here's why: Indie Mart has the best vibe of any show I've done, hands down. The music is fun and excellent, none of that generic techno you usually hear at these things. Kelly keeps things spirited and fun, and they specifically look for vendors who are engaging and interactive. The quality of the goods for sale is very fashion-forward - this is not the place to buy presents for Grandma so much as that killer outfit or accessory that people will ask you where you got it. It's edgy.
And on a side note for all the lovers out there - there are some effin beautiful people here! I did feel a bit dressed down for this hip crowd, so if you can't abide being in the same room as hipsters then you might want to pass. These hipsters, however, were for the most part friendly and funny and sweet. -

Remember how in high school, you got all dressed up to go to the mall, hoping you'd run into friends who would see you all in your stylish street gear with your hair and makeup all done up, and clothes carefully selected?
Well, the vibe is kind of like that...except in SF...so instead of prancing around the mall in contempo casuals and Express, people are sporting skinny jeans with white flip flops (boys) and vintage dresses with TOMS shoes accessorized with oversized 80s neon glasses (girls).
There's definitely a "and you are...?" vibe here, and I felt a bit like Farmer John goes to the city seeing as I didn't make any effort to adhere to the hipster dress code. Also, riding bike to indie-mart = cool. Driving to said indie mart is apparently uncool. Guess which category I fell into?
That aside, the street fair is comprised mainly of t-shirt and jewelry shops with a sprinkling of vintage clothes stands. Some of the stuff there is really quite nice, and very unique--one-of-a-kind stuff that would make a great gift for someone. We ended up purchasing a sock monster from a friendly lovey dovey hipster who encouraged customers to hug the sock monsters once s/he picked them up.
Street-food wise--the fair kind of sucked. I wish there was more to eat than mini gourmet cupcakes, semi-melting in the sun (not appetizing).
I'd take my out-of-town friends here, and I'd go here if I knew someone's bday was coming up and I liked them enough to send them a cool (somewhat pricey) gift. But I get the feeling that there are regulars who just go here to hang out, be cool, and get seen by other cool people. -

Always fun, sweet, and creative shoppers and vendors. This event makes me feel inspired and makes me wish I was a thousandaire so I could buy from everyone!
Clothes, vintage/handmade/remade, knick knacks, jewelry, fuzzy monsters, pies and cookies, adorable people, a photobooth, brews, BBQ.... are just some of the magical things you will see at the mart... drool.

Mission Indie Mart is my preferred way to spend a Sunday. Whether you're there to drink beers and sample Ed's delicious basil mojitos, or buy up some hot indie gear, it's always a good time.
I go there as a vendor but every damn time I end up walking away with my new favorite go-to item from one of the other badass designers. Last time it was Kelly's killer earrings. The time before that it was some amazing vintage boots with feathers and brass tipped toes. I also always manage to walk away with a hangover.

Stopping by on Sunday, I have to say I was more than impressed with the merchandise... Quite a few vendors had cute, one of a kind designs, at decent prices.
Though many didn't accept credit cards. Maybe a good thing since spring cleaning has just taught me a good lesson on buying on an impulse. But for others who need to stock up for the summer, a fun place (music and booze as well as shopping) for some good finds. -

I really enjoyed Indie Mart yesterday. One of my friends is a vendor (Vivian Chen Photography) so I was mainly out there to support. But I do love crafts, handmade goods, recycled goods, organic goods, etc. This was a wonderful place to see people using creative energy for positivity and producing something other than what you always see in stores or the mall.
There is food, drinks, bands (a great band played yesterday, The Frail) and tons of good vendors.
I think the only downside is that some of the items are priced on the higher side, but I think that reflects the vendors costs as a most-likely solo or small operation. -

Negotiating great deals on clothes, taking photos with my new two-headed sock doll, learning about laser cutting jewelry, sustainably designed products, being surrounded by creative people, trying on clothes behind precariously placed curtains, sharing mirrors and advice with shoppers... I spent my entire Sunday here and had one of the best shopping adventures of my life!
If you take shopping seriously, you will like the Indie Mart. If you don't take shopping seriously, but like music and food and cool people, you will like the Indie Mart.
All of the vendors I did business with were great (and I can honestly say I bought something from at least 35.77% of them ;) They were super knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating.
Pay with cash to avoid the tax and know that not all vendors take cards. No dressing rooms (at least at the outdoor event), so if you are shy wear the proper undergarments. -

I'm a little surprised at the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I gave it an extra star just for being a good idea in principle... but overall I think it should be renamed the mission hipster-mart. When I think of "indie", I think of independent and unique first and foremost; second I think of thrifty (not so much in direct definition of the term "indie", but rather with the culture). The Indie-Mart is neither of those things. The wares all seemed to lack any real creativity, and seemed to be priced far beyond anything I've encountered at other craft-like places. Screen-printing a hipster logo on a $50 hipster hat, then reselling it for $80 does not seem "indie" to me in the least.
Conjure up some creativity and stop relabeling mass-produced products, then I'll rethink my review. -

after some consideration and the cool email i received from kelly, I've decided to give this event five stars. kelly is the curator of the mission indie mart. she sent me a heart felt note that was genuinely sincere. a snippet from her pm:
"please come back and check it out and sorry about the music, we have to rent a system and it wasn't performing as well as we'd like. we are an indie event..ie me doing it all. and i do my best to keep up with the growth and keep it a genuinely local and rad event. its a tough job and i put about 110% of my everything and being into it. so just want you to know its not as casual or etc. trust me, you should see the 300 applications i get:) this was the best of the 300. i wish there was a bigger pool of better stuff out there. thanks for the feedback."

I've been to Indie Mart at a couple different locations in the city, and both times it was great. I'm not a huge fan of the vintage/consignment, but the handmade stuff is amazing! I got an adorable crocheted owl from Mr. Funky, as well as some cute pendants made out of maps and a necklace made of hand-sewn lace. Lovely! Prices range from cheap to moderate, but given that the stuff I'm buying was made by hand, I'm not complaining. I can't wait for the next one! Just be sure to bring plenty of cash.
