Awesome golf course. Played there for the first time this morning, and I enjoyed all nine holes in 1:45. Nobody was playing in front of us, we had a 6:15 tee time, but 2 hours in a foursome walking a 1700 yard course will probably be about average. The tee boxes and greens are very well maintained, and from the few times that I actually got to see a fairway (six of nine holes are par 3) the fairways look well kept as well, meaning that most players coming to this place care about their golf course. Greens are pretty fast, putts are slightly challanging, (I 3 putted four times) and the holes play really accurate to the listed yardage, except for the last hole where I recommend playing one club up.
The staff was friendly and helpful, and the club attendant actually waited in front of the parking lot, knowing my name, and telling me that my group was on the tee box. I did not meet any marshalls, but the players giving this place a bad rating noted being rushed by them, so I have to add this: It is the marshall's job to keep the speed of play moving so that everyone can enjoy their round. One slow group can affect the speed of play for dozens of groups behind them, so don't take it personally. Every golfer was a novice at some point, and learned the rules of etiquette the same way you are- by getting told.
All in all, great place to play a very relaxing 9 holes.
The feel of an 18 hole condensed into 9. The course is par 30, with 3 par 4s. Well maintained conditions and friendly staff. Probably the best course in its class within the bay area.

It was already one of those kind of cusp days. Things had gone oddly enough throughout the whole morning, that anything seemed possible. Every decision could either be a really good one, or a really bad one.
So when the four of us stepped foot into the Mission Hills Bar and Grill, and saw it lit up with high powered fluorescent lights similar to a Wal-Mart at three a.m., I had a feeling it might have been the beginning of a very long and very auspicious night.
The beer was cold, the pretzels, stale as cardboard, but the food was good. We, the four of us, sat and tried to make idle chit-chat as we chugged along, not yet with enough alcohol in our system to be completely loose yet. Plus the lighting, it's awful, uncomfortably awful.
The bar stools are now full as some afternoon golfers have tallied up their scores and subtracted their handicap, playing dice and drinking mini bottles of wine. A pint deep, a sandwich engulfed, a smoke outside, we were ready to go on our way. This wasn't our kind of place anyhow, we didn't golf, we never wanted to. Those damn lights were too much. We wanted a place, even at four in the afternoon, was a bit darker, filled with more sorrow.
I let out a burp, tasted like bacon and avocado. Strangely made me hungry again. Kick the butt into the ashtray and loaded up the car.

Good course for beginners and intermediate players. I always come back here when I have a rough outing at a full-size course. It's primarily useful for practicing your approach game; there's only 3 holes (3, 6, and 8) where you can tee off using your driver/fairway woods. There's not tooo many sandtraps, plus a handful of water hazzards and wilderness/out of bounds areas. The attendants are friendly and the course marshall is pretty good about keeping things moving. Course conditions are pretty decent and green fees are reasonable (better if you're a resident). All in all, I probably play this course 3 to 4 times a year.

I'm only reviewing the driving range.
A nice, double-decker driving range. Totally a relaxed place to come and hit a few balls. The price is totally affordable and the place is well kept and clean. The staff is super friendly, and knowledge as well.
The only bad is that they need some sun protection/shade on the upper deck. Carol T. and I were roasting in our clothes. They should also sell some beverages 'cause Carol had to walk like 10 miles to get some drinks from a vending machine or something while I sat there sweating my ass off. HAHA.

UGH @ the other patrons who frequent this golf course for being such impatient bitches!
In the three or so visits here I felt so unwelcomed...um, you're retired, so pop a Xanex and stop rushing me!
I will give two stars for the proximity of location, plus it's a well-maintained facility...but sheesh...I don't think I'll likely be returning to reassume my novice position on the green.
I'd actually give it 4.5 stars if that were possible. This course is well maintained, considering it is a 9-hole course. Fridays-Sundays seem to be pretty busy here, so you could end up waiting at every hole... but avid golfers would expect such a thing anyway. Green fees are around $20+ per person, and for a cart, tack on another few bucks. (My husband and I played today in a cart and paid around $55.) They do advertise discount winter rates as well as senior rates.
Total yardage at red tees is 1343. Yardage for the 9 holes goes as follows: 83, 97, 284, 80, 111, 281, 81, 232, 94.
Total yardage at white tees is 1720. Yardage for the 9 holes goes as follows: 109, 151, 359, 92, 164, 320, 124, 271, 130. There are sand bunkers but not too many water hazards, and some of the fairways can be somewhat narrow.
There are three par-4 holes, and the rest are par-3. If you decide to walk, be ready to do plenty of it; there is a decent walk from one hole to another sometimes. Also note that this course is located amidst a residential zone.
Overall, this is the best 9-hole course I've seen in the East Bay. It is definitely worth trying out.
I played my first real golf game here. The guys that I played with said that this was a good short 9 to start on. I add to that testament in that I had a good time for my first time. My shots weren't that bad. This place also has a turfed range next to it along with a double deck.
I really enjoyed my first time.

This is another good 9-hole course to practice on, as it has a combination of pretty short par 3's and long par 4's. The par 4 fairways are quite wide so there's a lot of leeway for those with poor aim. Obstacles on the course include sand bunkers, bunches of very very tall reeds, and some minimal water. I was surprised about the surprisingly short par 3 holes.
The interesting part about this course is that it's spread within a residential community, so some holes are separated between different parts of the community. The two times I've been there, it wasn't windy at all, so that makes the game a bit easier.

This course is great. Small staff, always accommodating and friendly.
Normal game time is usually 1.5 - 2 hours. Most players are pretty decent and the Marshalls are good with keeping people paced. The grass is very well cared for and usually the greens are near to perfect.
The fairways for 3 and 6 cross over each other and just about every time you've got folks in your fairway after an errant ball, but that's the course. After the 3rd hole, though, even a busy day can pace out well.
Also, apparently there is a crazy dude who lives off of the 8th hole so look out for any odd behavior at the fence line. TO DIGRESS: We were tipping one back a few months ago on the porch and suddenly all of these golfers were coming in off the course. We were scratching our heads wondering if it was a mountain lion or something. Next we see 5 Hayward police officers heading to a fence. Turns out there was a golfer who claimed a homeowner pulled a gun out when the golfer got too close to his fence line. I've known people who live on a course so it's an understandable frustration, but DAMN, a little overboard maybe? Anywhos, there's a nifty little bar with plenty of seating and TVs, yummy food. Hector is the guy who is usually on staff when we're there and is GREAT. He makes the best breakfast sammiches!
finally, a nice, double-decker driving range close to mi casa!
i'm only reviewing the range and not the course here and eagerly give it 2 thumbs up. The staff are nice and helpful, the prices totally affordable and the grounds well kept.
Minus a 1/2 star because there's no sun protection on the upper deck and minus another 1/2 star because the clubhouse doesn't have any drinks to sell! no gatorade, no water, no nuthin. you literally have to walk across the parking lot, over a bridge, and through another parking lot to get to the nearest vending machine. no bueno.

This 9 hole golf course is one of the best in the Bay Area. This was originally a very nice 18 hole golf course 30 years ago but was shut down because the original owner wanted to convert it to 9 holes and build housing the way it is now. Well, in the minds of the city leaders, there wasn't that great a need for housing and they wanted the 18 hole couse to remain. Well, the owner showed them and shut the course down and let the whole thing go to weed. About 10 or 12 years ago, the heirs approached the city again with a similar plan. The timing was a lot better as there was a huge housing shortage. Long story short, scores of two story (2500 sq. ft. ) homes were built as well as a beautiful 9 hole course. One of the most reasonable driving ranges was added about three years ago with a very nice practice area with traps that is free. You can get 150 ball bucket for $10. Try that in Foster City! Mariners Island charges for everything. There is no free practice at Mariners Island and you can easily get beaned with a golf ball playing the dinky 9 hole course on 10 acres.
In addition to being a nicely laid out 9 hole course (3 par 4's and 6 par three's), it's rare when you have to wait more than 20 minutes to get on.

This is one of the nicer 9 hole courses around on the east bay. There is a good mix of par 3s and 4s and the course is well maintained. Generally, the staff there are pretty nice, with one exception. One of the field marshalls kept trying to rush my friends and I as we were playing. Being that we're still in the process of learning the game, my friends and I have a tendency to take a little longer than more groups to play. But the last time we played there, it felt like the one field marshall kept trying to herd us out of there as quickly as possible. Usually, we're pretty good about letting people play through since we know we're slow. But we paid just the same as everyone else, and I don't appreciate being rushed. Other than that small annoyance, this is a good 9-hole course.
