At one point, I was friends with everyone who worked there and I would be around everyday.
I'm not sure about the employees now, but I have always had such a pleasant experience with customer service. It was more of a hang out for me than anything, but the coffee is great as well.
They roast their own beans, as well as do all of the baking of the scones and other baked goods. The sandwiches are tasty but quite pricey.
The location is prime - right on the corner near the Mission San Jose, and close to Ohlone College and Mission San Jose high school. It's popular with people of all ages.

Another one of the few true coffee shops around. What I meant by "true" is that they do their own hand roasting here, on location, not like the big chains who paid pennies for some third world kids to gather the beans and roast them in a gigantic oven. Their coffee is not those run of the mill fancy boutique brand and IMHO they taste way better than you know what.  =]

There are plenty of seating and some of them are actually dinning tables. And that's good for big groups to meet for scrap book projects or for students to do their group projects. Smaller tables along the wall with plenty of wall plugs for laptops. Oh did I mention they provide FREE WIFI? Anyhow, now you know.

You'll find family gathering (large groups of locals) during the weekend with kids running around so be prepared if you plan to do some studying here. This and the fact that parking is across the street in a gravel lot knocked 1/2 star off. (Yelp, why no 1/2 star rating?)

I was in a downer mood the other morning, and my best friend came by to pick me up to grab some coffee. Instead of supporting the man, we decided to go to this local spot instead.

The atmosphere is great- free wifi, lots of open airy space. The food selection isn't bad either. However, the food itself isn't particularly tasty and the coffee is pretty dissapointing. My friend ordered a mocha and could barely drink half of it due to the overwhelming sticky sweet taste. My double latte on the other hand was extremely bitter- and I typically like my latte's without sugar.

I do believe this place has potential- but they need a major revamp of the menu.

Fiance and I stopped here when she has a coffee urge.  It's a nice small little local coffee house located near the corner of Washington and Mission.  If you're not looking for it, it can be easy to miss.  Also parking is pain, there is only street parking unless you park in the empty gravel lot across the street.

This place has the feel of someones family room.  A mismatch of furniture and various random decorations along with a piano that somehow works together.  It's a nice laid back feel with plenty of seating both inside and outside and they also have Free WiFi which is a bonus.  Also unlike most coffee houses where you smell the coffee from down the street, this one didn't have that strong of a coffee smell to it.  While it was there, it was a background order vs every breath you take it's coffee.

They are an independent store and their prices here reflect it.  They have a good amount of coffee options, along with a nice selection of teas, as well as some italian sodas.  If you're looking for lunch they do offer sandwiches and salads and several vegetarian friendly meals which made my fiance happy.

She got her coffee fix and said it was ok.  Not as good as Starbucks and a little bit more expensive but she really enjoyed the atmosphere.  I got an italian soda and it was ok.  Enough to tie me over.

Overall just average, but it's a will come back if the fiance needs her coffee fix average and may try one of the meals here average.  Excellent atmosphere gets Mission Coffee 3 star rating.

Yes support the mom and pop coffee places. it reminds me of the (Perks) coffee place back in Athens, Ohio where i went to college. My wife and I would sit there with coffee and flirt.

Love the atmosphere. We sat on the porch which had a doggie bowl. Maybe we'll bring Zeus next time.

Nice ppl. We love finding places that aren't chains.

P.S. The full name is Mission Coffees & More.

I was enticed here by my ex, who lives in Fremont. He told me that the coffee is fresh since they roast it themselves. It's true, they do, and yes it is fresh... Apparently this place was opened by a true coffee lover, who was happy, friendly, and helpful. He then sold it off to Don (donno how much he loves coffee), but he is surly. It's ok, I don't really mind surly people. My policy is to just treat the as if they are being nice to me (tends to confuse them and incite hilarity). Anyway, about coffee:

After a lot of soul searching and caffeinated beverage drinking, I realize that the principles of good coffee and good tea are fairly similar. Both need to be fresh because they tend to lose flavor after prolonged storage (go stale). If the product is fresh, then it's all about its preparation.

Here's my problem with American Coffee: stale or fresh, kona or malawi, it doesn't matter! ALL OF IT IS STILL BURNED!! Coffee loses a lot of its flavor when it's dark roasted, much like tea can be burned by water that is too hot.

If you are tired of over-bitter coffee that smells better than it tastes, my suggestion is to find a place that has a variety of roasts from light to dark, rather than just extra-dark like Peet's. I might also suggest coffeefool.com, that sells most of their coffees on a medium-roast they call American roast (oddly). I've only tried Malawi from them because I can't really afford the coffee and the shipping just to drink good coffee for a month. Or hell, buy some green coffee and roast it yourself, if you have a skillet!

I know that most of you guys are used to the dark dark coffee and so you will probably like this place. As for me, I'll keep looking. I'll probably still come here for breakfast or lunch with my ex at some point, and I'll probably enjoy myself. They do have pretty good paninis, but my suggestion is to replace the mazzarella with chedder. I know it's weird, but it's good, trust me! Mazzarella has no flavor.

(And yes, people, I am very disturbed by the fact that the only person to give this place a three star rating other than me prefers chain coffee places. VERY VERY DISTURBED)

A few yards away from my office. When I am running late in the morning and don't have time to do my morning coffee ritual at home, grind my beans, slowly percolate and enjoy while commuting to work, I know that this place will give me my legal addictive stimulant fix in a pinch.

It's not a sterile cookie cutter commercial starbucks, its got charm, an old ass building, real people, locals, large bags of unroasted coffee beans and personality.

Support mom & pop coffee shops.

Mission Coffee Roasting Co. has a music venue unmatched in the area. Once or twice a month they host touring musicians and the place turns into a concert hall. Everything quiets down and you get to really hear the music. Much like Espresso Garden that Judy ran in San Jose. The music is varied Blame Sally to Caliban Ron Thompson to Bethany and Rufus. Check it out www.fremontcoffee.com
And yes my wife and I are the Host for the music events...BraskHouseConcerts.com

I really like the large size and old town feel of the place.  However, I really didn't think the coffee was very good.  I really wanted to like it though!  Maybe I am just having bad luck.  The people were friendly.

Good, but rather pricey, coffee and baked goods.  Interesting clientele and a picturesque location.

My complaint is the atmosphere. The whole place needs a good cleaning and a coat of paint. The high ceiling is covered with dusty cobwebs.   The lighting is mostly ghastly overhead fluorescent tubes.

This place could be so much more inviting than it is.

I miss Mission Coffee!!! We use to have one over near my work and they closed down. I think they lost their lease or something. I haven't been to the other location, but I know it's near the Mission.

The chai lattes and frappes are GRRREAT! So is the coffee. Now I have to settle for Starbucks or I just brew my own (which I prefer to Starbucks!).

The owners were so kind and the employees were always happy regardless of the time of day.

We miss you at Gomes!

A friend of mine works here, so I would go in to visit her. I don't like coffee,  no matter how you spin it- but this place is great.
The atmosphere is really chill and they even have performers in from time to time.
The food is great, especially the sandwich's! Oh, and the cookies too. :)
The people that work there are really great people and are ready to help you.

Not just great coffee, but sandwiches, salads, desserts. Plus, there's a piano in there if you want to tickle the ivories and free wireless internet.

We live next to a Starbucks, but I'd rather go here.

Open, well-lit, and many large tables conducive to quiet newspaper readings or nightly social meetups.  There's even a piano in the back.

I was happy with my Americano drink and vegetarian sammie that had creamy avocado and hummus, yumm... The banana and pumpkin breads sold by the slice looked very homemade and not calorie laden, unlike some places that order them from elsewhere packed with preservatives.  Their pastries and paninis is something I'd like to try next time!

I used to live walking distance of this place, and I felt so lucky! They make really good lattes, and they have a variety of pastries and cookies for your sweet tooth. They also make sandwiches, but since it's not close to work, I never went here for lunch.

It's a big open space inside, with sofas and chairs, and stacks of newspapers to peruse at your leisure.

Outside there are little benches and chairs for hanging out. It's right next to Olive Hyde Art Center, where I used to take some watercolor classes. It's such a cute area to just sit and hang out in, with wisteria climbing all over and the mellowness of the Mission District of Fremont. I miss it!! :-(

A great place to study, Mission Coffee is one of the holdouts in a rapidly changing neighborhood which saw the the long standing dive bar Mission Bell Tavern across the street turn into a arts & crafts place some years ago. The fact that Mission Coffee has held its own against Starbucks which opened further down Mission Boulevard is a testament to how much the local community values this place. I've seen a number of my high school friends moms hang out here and play bridge, while other people are ready, studying, or just hanging out. There's a piano which I've seen no one touch - don't know what would happen if someone started playing (I guess it depends if they sucked or not).

Hope Mission Coffee stays on for quite some time. Fremont needs gems like these. Too many people there now are content with generic stripmall fodder. I say put up the good fight!

And to qualify the stars, the espresso is good. Pretty damn good.

This place has been around for as long as I can remember. it's too bad the one by Albertson's closed, but the other one on Washington is still open.

They do great paninis at about $7. They also have inexpensive Italian sodas and the best cookies ever! Ahhh. I want one so bad right now. I'm not a coffee aficionado or anything, but hey, their mochas get the job done for me. Also... I remember one of my high school teachers would come here every Friday without fail for clam chowder.

I like that they're a part of the community--they often contribute to the local Mission San Jose High by advertising or donating, and they're real nice people. I always get friendly service.

They host all kinds of stuff--local bands and artists (I think Vienna Tang came recently, and a band called Cele De) as well as other kinds of performances.

The best part is definitely the tip jar. It says something like "because looking sexy doesn't pay well." lol.

Located right next to the historic San Jose Mission, Mission Coffee is a family owned shop that does it's own baking!  Their French Roast is the absolute best and mixed with the local color, it is a very charming hangout.  The owners, Don & Gail, are very friendly and wonderful people.  Also, if you are looking for a cup at 5am, it's open and if you are looking for evening entertainment, musical artists are frequently playing on a weekend night (check with the shop for current schedules).
