Gourmet burger at 9 am? Hell yea!
What more could you ask for?

Even after I was bursting, literally, with food and joy in my tummy, I still couldn't stop salivating over the baked goods. I'm gonna come back for those.

My group of 6 snagged a spot right when it opened. Service is absolutely great. We took our time taking pictures and picking at our last bits of leftovers despite the line outside, but the servers continued to refill our coffees and flatter us as they took photos with us.

For the folks waiting in the rain for half an hour--sorry. But it's so worth it.

Coming here for the first time?

Get the dungeness crab benedict, MBC breakfast burger, and brioche french toast. I assure you--you'll be skipping out the door even with your newly-acquired flappy tummy.

Crab Benedict looked and sounded soooo good...but it was only, good.

I don't have anything to complain about, nor do I have anything to rave about.  A friend and I went here for brunch on a Sunday, and were seated in about 5 minutes.  Not bad.  I'm glad I tried Mission Beach Cafe, but probably wouldn't ever have a "I'm soOoo craving.." moment.

The blue bottle coffee..is not as great as the real deal.  Wouldn't order THAT again here.

Went for brunch and shared the short rib hash and soufflé pancakes. Loved the short rib hash with minimal potatoes and delicious, perfectly braised short ribs. Two fried eggs and horseradish creme fraiche tied it all together.

Service was great and Blue bottle coffee is served here. Love it.

MAMA MIA GOOD.

My tummy is so very happy and delighted to meet you, Mr. Short Rib Hash. And you, too, Mr. Pancake. Don't forget Ms. Mimosa.

What better way to be greeted than "Would you like juice or champagne?" upon arrival. I can totally handle that.

Deliciously fried eggs topped with flavorful shortrib on a Saturday morning is almost too good to be true ($14.50). I paired it of course with a LARGE Mimosa ($12), worth every penny.

OMG, best pancakes ever . . . fluffy, wonderful, and tasty. Just fruit topping, who needs whipped cream and heavy syrup? ($5 for a single)

Make sure you bring an ideal companion who can tolerate for more than an hour. Because you WANT to savor the experience here.

The staff members were too awesome for words. Very nice, helpful, and just darn COOL. You feel comfortable and at ease with their pleasantries.

My friend ordered her hazelnut pumpkin pie and next time I will do the same.

My tummy is too full, but so very happy to meet the Brunch Pack.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND and I would say my #1 top brunch place in SF so far. I wish I knew of this place sooner in life!

The food here is delicious (and I'm a very picky eater). Everything tastes fresh. They even make their own English muffins! And the coffee is amazingly good - Blue Bottle I believe.

The staff is super friendly and nice and helpful too. I'm giving them 5 stars.

Mission Beach Cafe is not a place for couples. Pairs. Duos. Besties. Newlyweds. Anything that involves "two."

On Sunday, my roommate and I craved a hearty brunch, and having both salivated over the menu for months, we knew it was time to head over to 14th and Guerrero to try the place out. It's in a can't miss location, emphasized further by the huge crowd of people waiting outside. When we got closer, we saw that it was pretty much all couples. We put our name on the list, saw that there were 10 or so parties in front of us, and hunkered down to wait.

And oh, did we wait.

A number of bigger groups came in after us - groups of 5, groups of 4, even a group of 6  - and they were ALL seated before us. I understand that some tables are made for bigger groups, but it's pretty ridiculous that we wound up waiting an hour and fifteen minutes while other groups only waited ten minutes. And then of course, after we had waited so very long and had finally been given a table, they finally started seating couples at tables made for four.

Why not do that earlier? If we had known that this place caters to groups and not couples, we would have forced our hungover bed-stricken friends to join...we figured having just the two of us would give an advantage.

It's really unfortunate that the seating was so poorly done (not to mention the service was spotty - water refills were hard to get, appetizer and entree served at the same time, bus boy knocking food out of my hand to clear something off the table) because the food is SO DAMN GOOD.

Five stars for our meal. My crab benedict with roasted peppers, hollandaise, and orange reduction was delicious and I liked that they used actual crab meat as opposed to the grated canned stuff that a lot of other brunch places offer. Likewise, my roommate devoured her salmon/spinach/potato pancake dish, particularly complimenting the texture and flavor of the fish. It's all artfully presented to the point that we had diners on both sides pointing to our dishes saying "Ooh, that looks good! What is it?"

I've waited a long time for things. I waited in three hours of traffic to cross the bridge and get home after the Safeway truck spilled. I wait patiently for the next Harry Potter movie each year. And like Mission Beach Cafe, the waits were totally worth it. But in none of the cases, including the brunch, would I ever willingly wait like that again. Unless of course I score a threesome, but I'd probably be celebrating elsewhere if that was the case.

I address thine holy writ in the Church of Bacon by declaring mine prior failures in executing the sacred rites, for I have come to confess...

Dearest Bacon,

I dare not sprinkle thee o'er every dish.

I doth not sizzle thou slices in the morn.

I doth not wrap mine dogs with you.

(Alas, I am a health eater and am not accustomed to your ways.)

With the sacrament of porky penance I attend Mission Beach Cafe to baptize and cleanse myself of prior bacony sins and eat the salted slivers of the culinary savior where others doth congregate and proclaim thee the best.

Sweetly caramelized in the name of the pepper, you hath filled mine orifice with glories. With poached egg and homemade English muffin you hath lain thyself well upon my palate. Perfectly prepared, you be.

And while I may not attend thee regularly, dearest Bacon, I hope thou doth not attest thyself neglected, for my love for thee shall never falter. And like most Catholics I know, I shall see thee every so often and on Christmas and Easter, and, you know, when I have some free time or something.

Mission Beach Cafe - can you relocate to Seattle please?

Seriously though, this place is great. I'd suggest planning ahead and getting reservations because it's a really intimate restaurant with room for no more than 50-60 people. (just a guess there.. but it's small!)

The owner of the restaurant was in that night and was checking on tables, making sure people customers were happy and needs were being met. I love when they do that!

The truffle fries were one of the most popular appetizers in our group that night. Among the best I've ever had! The brussel sprouts were also a big hit.

All entrees ordered among the group were amazing. I tasted the pork chop and it melted in my mouth! The roasted chicken was another to-die-for meal.

For dessert I had the chocolate cream pie. What a smart decision! It was so silky and tasty. This is a great spot for groups, dates, or just a quiet dinner with a friend.

Mission Beach Cafe, I love you. You're definitely one of the top five things I miss about living in SF.

Although the chefs keep changing, the food remains consistently amazing. Tonight's perfect dinner:
*Dungeness crab flatbread (with large chunks of crab)
*Truffle oil fries (the ONLY way to have fries)
*Grilled rose brined pork chop (SO tender and juicy)
*Pumpkin hazelnut mousse pie (absolutely divine!!)

Mmm... my tummy couldn't be happier.

And Pot Pie Tuesdays are back!! With a choice of rabbit, beef short rib, veggie or seafood pot pies, you can't go wrong with any of them.

After reading everybodies reviews I decided I better go here on a day when I don't have to wait.  So I picked a Monday afternoon and thankfully we did not have to wait for a table.  Things were off to a rocky start since the sun was glaring right on me and it was hot.  But, when I asked the Waiter to move one of the sun blockers he did without hesitation.  Then we ordered the pumpkin soup but it wasn't done yet, and I guess it never was, not sure what happened.  But after that everything was fabulous.

Both my sis and I ordered the tofu dish which was seasoned perfectly, tasty and very innovative, we loved it.  The veggies were a little hard to cut but we just used our hands.

We also had the souffle pancakes at our table which we was yummy,
BUT what really takes this place over the edge are the pies.

OMG you must get a slice of pie.  I had the chocolate cream pie and it was probably the best pie I've ever had.  I will definitely be back!!!

MMM MMM Good!

As the name says, it's a cafe, so small and cozy atmosphere.  Extremely pleasant and friendly waiters, especially our waiter Justin.

The food was to die for!  We started off with pomegranate mimosas and some biscuits with pumpkin gravy.  I ordered the poached eggs and they were scrumptious...although everyone else at the table said the bacon in brown sugar was hands down the best.

I will definitely be coming back to this hidden treasure!

I have been to lunch here twice in the last week and have to admit I'm in love!  This place is so great.  The food is so fresh and imaginative, I can't believe what a good deal it is.  The staff is friendly and the scene local.

I had the huevos with beans, salsa, chips and pulled pork.  Holy shit.  On the next visit I tried the smoked tofu plate with a starter of butternut squash soup.  The soup was the real stand out.  I recommend going with whatever daily special they tell you about.

Five stars!

Mission Beach Cafe is easily one of my favorite places to eat in the city.

Their menu is constantly rotating, seasonal, and inventive.

The ambiance is always warm and upbeat. The servers are consistently grinning, singing along to the catchy music, and are always helpful with ordering recommendations.

The prices are pretty reasonable considering the quality of the food. This is not a cheap spot - but I always feel like I've eaten an exceptional meal when I come here. Also if you're on a budget - just go for the burger and a side of truffle fries. Voila.

Oh and yeah those truffle fries....those things are thin slivers of "ooooohs" and "ahhhhhhhs." They are seriously the bomb.

The location of Mission Beach Cafe is also beautiful. With their big windows - the Mission sun is always beaming in (though you may get too hot on a nice day.)

Their mimosas are almost the size of my head (I have a very tiny head).

And my favorite part of this place....

The desserts. Their desserts are sinfully on point. Their coconut cream pie with fresh whipped cream   - always gets me  - but honestly their entire dessert selection is worth trying. All are fresh and homemade.

If you want to earn big points on a date - take them here.

Trust.

3 words...RABBIT POT PIE....so freakin good!  I really have no complaints about any of the food, it was fabulous.  I would recommend getting the truffle fries for starters (our waiter recommended it, he was super nice and helpful), everyone at our table loved the rabbit pot pie, and the2 best desserts we had were the lemon cream pie and the pumpkin pie.  One of my friends is a vegetarian and she got the ravioli which was fantastic as well.  But seriously, thank you mission beach cafe for the best comfort food I've had in a long time, freaking rabbit pot pie...if you're not a vegetarian you must try!
I gave 1 star shy of 5 stars because I felt like we had to wait for our table forever!  It was a crowded night though.

Based on Yelp rating and reviews we had a brunch at the MBC on Sunday around 2:00 pm. We arrived at 1:30pm and the waiter wrote down our names and told us it would take about 25-30 min. We wandered around for 20 min and came back... to see our name crossed off the list! But the guy recognized us and was kin enough to give us the next available table.
We ordered the eggs benedict and the French toasts, with juices, herbal tea and cappuccino. Everything as super good, even if the juices are NOT fresh, unlike we read on another review. They are Odwalla juices, which is very good for a bottled juice for sure.

At the end of the brunch I was about to give only 4 stars to MBC because it took them a long time to bring us the food - over 20 min. But then the waitress came and offered us a cookie to apologize for the wait, even if we never complained. That's super cool. And they gained their fifth star at that moment :-)

The decor is really nice, modern, with post-industrial photos on the wall, and everything is clean and the staff friendly. Great place where we expect to go back to.

i've heard so many great things about this place but my experience was less than stellar.

pros:
- not much of a wait. host was very personable.
- food came out quickly.
- the french toast was a bit soggy for my taste but VERY delicious. loved the yogurt/creme on the side
- scramble & biscuits and gravy were also very good.

cons:
- the pancake was not cooked. the inside was still runny.
- eggs benedict - first time the yolk was completely cooked but it's ok, we ate it anyway. ordered a second one because it was good and asked them to make the yolk runny. we got a runny yolk and runny egg whites. we sent the second dish back and asked that it be taken off of our bill. the waiter brought back the bill and said he had to charge us for the second dish. we asked to speak to the manager and the waiter came back later to let us know that he was able to take it off.

granted the other dishes were delicious and they were extremely busy, an uncooked pancake is unacceptable! i will attribute this brunch as being a complete fluke and totally out of character. hopefully next time will be completely perfect.

ummm....like....O-M-G!

Stepped into Mission Beach Cafe for lunch with a few friends and all of us were salivating over the food.  I selected the pulled pork with huevos and mayacoba beans, and I think my stomach nearly fainted over the deliciousness.

It does get busy, so expect to wait awhile. As a bonus, they do serve Blue Bottle coffee and their pomegranate/grapefruit mimosa is gooood.

oh, not a bacon fan...but they're friggin good here

I really REALLY loved this place, even though I wanted to punch the mom and dad of the little girl sitting next to me in the face!  Seriously, it's ok to be cute, but when you steal every "cute" idea from Home Alone, it just becomes annoying (may you rest in peace, John Hughes).  The little girl, we'll call her "Maggot" was sitting there with a JC Penney catalog and when she was done, she just shoved it underneath my bum.  Stupid Maggot.  I wanted to punch her parents and then I noticed her father was almost encouraging this behavior in the 6-year old.  He at one point taught her how to pound her silverware on the table and say "Bring me food!"  Shocked.  But that wasn't the best.  The best was this one.  She looked at her pancake when it came and said, "That looks stupid!  What is that?"  And then the father said to her, "It's a pancake, just sit down and eat it.  You know, sometimes I feel like you think I'm the snake in the garden" to which he tickled her excessively.  But I digress... On with the food!

And what glorious food it was!  My gentleman caller and I decided we'd give this place a try based on a couple reviews, but mainly Keane's glowing, beautifully irreverent review about their bacon.  Sometimes I pray to bacon much like Keane, so I had to try this.  There was no option to not go at this point.

We arrive on a Wednesday morning for their brunch and there is a parking spot right out front.  Score!  Then we go in and no waiting!  Double score.  Although, the people who entered after us, walked around us and just went to sit at a table, so I was a little confused and started to walk toward a table myself.  Luckily someone came to sit me down, and I didn't feel like a dumbass too long wandering around while everyone was eating.  It wasn't really clear if they were to seat us, or if you just find a table (esp after that other couple just cut around us and beelined for one themselves).

We had about 3 waiters I believe, so I really wasn't sure who was the main waiter, but I went with it anyway and knew that they must be doing something special by having 3 people wait on me.  I'm actually really cute and talented, so the more people you have bringing me things at a restaurant, the prettier I feel!  Triple-Dipple Score!

I started with Blue Bottle Coffee and then ordered the home-made english muffin breakfast sandwich thing (with egg, spinach(?), roasted tomatoes, some delicious spread) and asked for it with sausage, as well as a side of what?  BACON!  My gentleman caller had the scramble on the menu and also ordered a side of bacon.

Well, OH MY SAMMIE!  This sammie was SOOOO good!  The first bite into it had the yolk running all over the sandwich.  The roasted tomatoes? I don't even like roasted tomatoes, but I found myself stuffing one back into the sandwich when it fell out.  They really know how to pair their flavors.  It wasn't until I was over halfway through the sandwhich that I realized it was missing something...

Where's the sausage I ordered?

For a brief moment, a violin played a lament slowly through the air, and then I realized something.  I'm almost done with this sammie and I didn't even notice it missing something as important as meat!  And if you know me, and how much I LOVE meat (red, white, or man meat), you know that meat is required in every dish I eat.  Making me forget the meat makes that sammie a 5 STAR sammie.

And the bacon itself on the side was to die for.  I don't want to describe it, but if you don't want to eat there, at least go and get a side of bacon and coffee.  You will not regret it.  I could have eaten two sides of it myself.  Come to think of it, we actually did order two sides, but they only brought us one.  I was a little sad, but being that after we finished the first side of bacon we were both stuffed, we figured we wouldn't ask for our second one.  Luckily, when the bill came, they only charged us for one side of bacon, however...

They did charge me for the sausage on my sammie which was not there.  I can't blame the waiter, because he obviously put the order in, and the waitstaff was VERY attentive.  But I was a little peeved that they charged us for it.  My gentleman caller doesn't like to complain especially when it's over two bucks, so he just paid for it anyway.  I still feel like that's bad form, so for that I can't give a full 5 stars.  However, the food itself is definitely 5-STAR worthy.

I highly recommend this place, but when you go, make sure to check your food for everything you ordered before devouring it.  Oh... and if you're a Mission Area Family, leave your unruly kids at home next time or I'm going to say something.  And I just may punch you in the groin or the ovaries.  Thank you!

UPDATE!!

We had brunch here with some friends a few weeks ago. And, let me say, a brunch has -never- lived up to the initial dining experience the way -this- brunch lived up to the sweet-baby-jesus-pot-pie-sniff-all-the-dessert-win es-little-steak-orgasms-in-my-mouth dining experience we had back in April.

Firs, the "rock star" mimosas.  Seriously.  When server asks, "regular or rock star?," you say rock star.  Basically ~3 mimosas in one glass.  Classic is fantastic; I had the pomegranate, which was also delicious.

So, here's the thing.  I remember what we all got.  And all of it was orgasmically, astoundingly good.  So I'm just going to list it.

-Souffle pancakes with various fruit & vanilla creme.  The pancakes are amazing; the vanilla creme is homemade heaven.

-Lavender & orange infused brioche french toast with berry compote & vanilla cream.  (I got this; people would not leave it alone.)

-Huevos rancheros.  A group favorite; I think 3 people got this, and the rest of us kept bothering them for tastes.

-Scramble with with asparagus, chard, sunchokes (?) goat cheese, & potatoes

-Dungeness crab benedict with asparagus, onions, hollandaise, orange reduction, & potatoes

So.  That's all I have to say about that. :)

My crab benedict did not have enough crab. I've read here in other reviews that people' crab benedicts had "lumps" or "chunks" of crab meat but mine was more like crab paste. Looked under the egg to check if mine had anything. They were also out of orange juice on the day I went and I was ok with them mixing my drink with another fruit juice, but mine turned out hella bitter.

OMG the Mission Beach Egg Sandwich is so yummy...we loved the homemade english muffin. The potatoes that accompany this dish are deliciousness.

The burger was also outstanding.

Service was slow and inattentive...we had to bring our bill up to the counter to pay as our server was MIA. The tables are also crammed together (it's a small space) so watch your a** when your squeezing into your seat.

Oh so close! The meal could have been fantastic but every dish had something that was slightly off.

The ambiance was good. I liked the setup and even the restrooms were pretty distinct. Service was excellent as well. The manager was very friendly and seated us at the bar while we waited for our table. Told us about the history of the restaurant, a little bit about the chef and his passion for fresh ingredients and his favorite dishes. Great start, expectation were set really high.

They only have wine and beer, but a pretty good selection of both so had some to start with. Had the flatbread and shrimp appetizers. Shrimp was all right, the flatbread had beets on it which did not feel right. The items were good individually but did not taste right together. I was there with a group of good friends, so was able to try multiple dishes...Next up was the burger that had received great reviews. It tasted good except that it had a little too much salt. The pork chop was tough and too dry. The filet mignon was just OK.

Now, let's talk about the dessert. Ordered their signature banana pie and the chocolate pecan pie. The banana pie taste like Gerber baby food. It was mashed banana with some cream. The chocolate pecan was nothing to write home about either. This place has much potential but came up a little short. Too bad, so sad...so much potential!

It's not impossible to find fantastic food at a restaurant.  You won't find it here however.....

Another Quintessential Mission Eatery trying to be HIP.

Here's the DEAL --- I ate brunch here this Sunday.

My son ordered French Toast which they had run out of by 9:30AM.  They gave him a "free" pancake to make up for it which was very nice.  The pancake tasted like a cake donut and I thought it was pretty good.  The french toast was horrible and had no flavor.  It was served with a sour compote of mixed fruit.

My husband got the hash...  It was good BUT soaked in OIL and that's not my thing.  You got chunks of stew meat and bite sized potato which was a nice spin on the typical hash.  His meal was the best of the 3.

My food was simply terrible. I ordered Huervos Rancheros.  The sauce was good but covered my entire plate making it very  "soupy".  My poached egg was over cooked and hard. I had very few beans and no avocado.  I got two tortilla chips with some pork strips...  I felt hungry when I left and not satisfied after spending almost $60 for 3.

We never got coffee refills but if it's Blue Bottle I guess...they are trying to conserve?

I hear their burger is awesome but how hard can it be to make that at home?

A disappointment.

I loved Mission Beach Cafe. Downright awesome. It's exactly the essence of fine dining in San Francisco. In the outer Mission, near the duboce triangle or the Castro (depending on your neighborhood naming preferences), this restaurant is on the first floor street corner of your stereotypical victorian san francisco apartment building. It's unassuming...I must have driven by it for two years without noticing it was even there. The interior is this amazing blending on modern interior design with classic San Francisco architecture. Simple, elegant, understated, with perfect lighting and accents. It's such an inviting place to eat, especially at night. It's hard to resist.

And then there's food. My friend are have been searching for the city's greatest burger and Mission Beach Cafe was on our hit list, it's reputation preceding it. We both ordered it, and while we were waiting, we got the appetizer of fried green tomatoes. They were excellent, perfectly fresh, fried just crispy, with an amazing cayenne aoili that was so good, we asked for more so we could dip our fries in it later. The burger that arrived was very large, juicy, and incredibly delicious. The bread was dead-on moist, slightly grilled so that it wasn't soppy. It's hard to describe what makes a burger great beyond top-quality ingredients, so I'll just tell you - this is the best burger I've ever eaten in San Francisco. It really, really is.

And from the expressions on the faces of everyone else in the restaurant, it looks, feels, sounds, and smells like everything on the menu matches up as well.

Just had the best meal of my life there.

Get this:

Truffle fries w/ parmesan
Calamari w/ cole slaw
Heirloom tomato salad w/ little gems w/ poached eggs
Linguini with lobster mushroom and squash in a lemony cream sauce
Honey lavender cheescake

I felt like I just had sex after having that meal. Wanted a cigarette. Needed to sleep.

Eat here before this Saturday, when the head chef leaves for Napa. Unlike a one night stand, you won't regret it.

I've been eyeing it for a while. Always wondering what goes on behind those clean glass windows so close to my house. And now I know that there has been some serious eating going down without my participation. On top of seeing a dear friend visiting from out of town, I scored an amazing morning in the city by having a wonderful breakfast.

After reading a couple of reviews, I insisted we start with the truffle fries. They were perfectly fried crispy sticks of potato goodness dusted with finely shaved parmesan. Can someone say microplane? My friend and I couldn't decide between all the good egg options so we did the next best thing, share. She ordered the goat cheese, green bean scramble served with a bed of fresh organic lettuces tossed in a light vinagrette. I got the egg muffin sandwich and was sad to cut it in half. It was sublime: perfectly toasted, melted savory cheese, juicy egg yolk and fresh steak-like heirloom tomatoes. And did I mention the thick cut bacon? Oh yes.

The service was great. Very amiable waitress that accomodated our request to split by giving us two plates and was at the ready with fresh coffee. And not just any coffee, Blue Bottle coffee.

I'm so happy I finally ate at Mission Beach Cafe and I'm anxious to test drive their dinner menu. And seeing my friend was amazing too. She just got married. I might marry bacon.

So, the wife, a friend, and I went out for brunch. We weren't quite sure where we wanted to go, we've been to so many places in this "Fine City". As we're driving up Guerrero we spot this little happening place. After the normal drive around the block 20bazillion times we find parking and head over. After about 3 minutes of having our name on the signup list we're seated and the fun began..

The menu is very nicely balanced between sweet and savory. It wasn't hard to find 3 dishes that we found enticing. I looked over at someone's dish and asked the server what it was (damn, it looked good!) she said "That't the special, house cured salmon on a pair of potato pancakes with  ..." That's where she lost me, I was already there. Wife had the Egg Sandwich with bacon (yumm bacon) with potatoes that biscuits and gravy and the friend had the scramble with chanterelle mushrooms. All of the dishes were nicely put together and the flavors were well balanced.
They make blue bottle coffee they way blue bottle makes it.. A cup at a time. I think I had 5 cups. (bzzzz) :)

We shared the chocolate mousse cake and it was very good.. (I'm not much of a dessert guy, but definitely appreciated it)

Highly recommend this place, I don't think you will be disappointed.

The 5 star rating here is based purely on their burger and their heirloom tomato salad.

This place was rated #4  on the 10 best burgers in SF list by 7X7 http://www.7x7.com/con... , so I was very eager to try their burger.  I had been to Namu, which is also on the list at #10 (see my review http://www.yelp.com/bi...)

After trying to get in without a reservation on a Tuesday night at some of the other places on the top burger list - Nopa, Spork and Zuni's - we felt like we hit the Jackpot when Mission Beach Cafe had openings at 7.00.

Since the burger is what they seemed to be known for, all three of us ordered the burger.  We also started with a Heirloom tomato ($11) salad which was outstanding.  It was served with a poached egg which I've never seen before.  The salad also had fresh olives, cherry tomatoes and cucumber.  All the produce were super fresh and the tomatoes were intensely sweet.  It was a great start.

About 10 minutes later, the burger arrived ($13.5).  It was topped  with melted aged Gouda, caramelized onions, tomatoes, lettuce and a garlic Aioli.  Wow.... That was one of the best burgers I've ever had.  It was a very generous portion of quality beef.  The burger / meat  was so thick I had to press down on the burger in order to fit it in my mouth.  The meat was so juicy and tender.  The taste was absolutely amazing.

This was definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had along with Namu's burger.  I wouldn't say the burger is absolutely better than Namu.  I think it really comes down to preference & mood.  The burger at Namu is slightly sweeter due to the sweeter caramelized onions.  The burger here is more savory due to the aged Gouda which is somewhat salty.  The meat is more generous at the Mission Beach Cafe, but it costs slightly more than Namu as well.

I would come back in a heartbeat for their burger!

Although the portions are on the small side, the food you do get is flavorful and has obviously been given a lot of thought.  I appreciate it!

Service was great as well.  I was also (oddly) only one of ten people in the restaurant on a mid-morning Monday.  So I'm sure I got the cream of the crop without the crowds :)

Minus some points for the price.  I know it costs more to have "mindfullly produced food" on the menu, but I definitely felt like the portions could be a little bigger.

I'm glad I went and experienced what everyone raves about, but most likely will only go again if I avoid the weekend crowds and have a little extra cash to play with.

Don't know what's taken me so long to review this place.
Consistently great feeding.

Ate dinner here once last year and it was very tasty, but the real hero is the brunch.  An inventive, changing menu with a few staples.  Fresh, seasonal ingredients.  Interesting combinations.

The Mission Beach Egg sandwich (with bacon added) is deceptively simple.  One of the only breakfast places I've been to where their savory is as strong as their sweet.  Incredible souffle pancakes.

Lovely location too.  Airy, with lots of sunlight.  Warm, friendly staff.  Blue Bottle coffee to boot!

i DEFINITELY have to come here for brunch, because as yet I've only been for dinner and that was delicious!

eating with the bf can be hard because he's a vegetarian, but we often find appetizers we can share, or the restaurant can delete the meat part or put it on the side.  That's what they did for us for the flatbread w/bacon and peaches.  not only did they remove the bacon from his half of the plate, but they put it ALL on my side!  YAY!!  i gorged myself on that app alone.  then i was too full to finish my chicken, but it made a really delicious leftover the next day!

A meal of pure bliss, this place is a treasure that I hope never sells out. What an incredible menu where flavors are balanced and reinvented in the most satiating of ways. The MBC huevos were to die for! Everything is perfectly prepared and the service is friendly, laidback, and still impeccable. If I could eat breakfast here every day I would!

Four things you need to know about MBC:

1)  This is where all pastries hope they'll go when they die.  Pastry chef Alan Carter is a total genius.

2) Their dinner menu is excellent and always well executed.  The burger is spot on and one of the best in the city, and they do an amazing job with fish, particularly halibut which is usually on the menu in one form or another

3) Brunch is awesome, and quickly moving the the top of my best brunch list.  Crab bennie, huevos, french toast are all excellent

4) You can order whole cakes and pies.  People pay attention:  just as good as Tartine for a fraction of the price.  The brooklyn blackout is ridiculous.

Mission beach? More like mission BETCH!
Don't get me wrong, the food here is delish, however overpriced. It is a bit bougie, so i mean you know what you're getting yourself into.
The reason for this is there are few employees here who are just ruining the dining experience with their commentary. For some reason they feel the need to spout off their stupid jokes--which are just plain not funny. Have these people ever heard of just leaving you ALONE? I don't need someone to entertain me while I have a croissant, especially if their humor is just plain annoying. This would not be a problem had it been the only time, however it's happened on numerous occasions that we are accosted by these people! just SHUT UP and give me my blue bottle!
your jokes are not going to give you a bigger tip! QUITE THE CONTRARY, says I, Fatty McFatterson!!!

Went 5 months ago for brunch and had the veggie scramble = yummy and light for breakfast.

Went last weekend and had the souffle pancakes = borderline dessert, divinely fluffy and ginormous pancakes (best pancakes I've had in a long time).

Therefore, Mission Beach Cafe =  5 stars.
