What a fun place. I live within a mile of this place and I'd wanted to go ever since it opened. But somehow it kept slipping my mind. I'll definitely be going back.

The food: we ordered five plates. They're served tapas-style but the portions are a little bit larger than most tapas restaurants in the area. The best thing on the table were the pork filled Gyoza. We got them steamed and they were perfect. I could have eaten three or four more easily. The Cha Gio spring rolls were also excellent. They are filled with minced chicken and shrimp, and mushrooms and come with a very flavorful dipping sauce. The next thing we had was Tuna Tartake. It was lightly seared, to perfection, and came with a tasty ponzu sauce. It was excellent. The Beef Yakiniku was next. While it was very tender and flavorful, it almost seemed commonplace next to the other, more traditional dishes. It was very good... it just didn't stand out as something you'd have to order every time you went. The only thing I didn't really care for was the baked mussels. They may have been a little over-cooked and were on the bland side. But still not a bad dish. The presentation of all the plates was flawless. For dessert, we had the honey glazed donuts with powdered sugar. They were very good. And the meal ended with a paid of frozen grapes. Nice touch.

Drinks: I love sake, so of course I had to try some. But before I get to that, I have to mention what a wide range of ShoChu they have on the drink menu. It's a Japanese beverage distilled from barley, sweet potatoes, or rice. And they have many varieties of each. They even have an entire specialty cocktails list where each drink is made from ShoChu. But I went with the sake. The server brought out a huge bottle of sake and filled my 6 oz. glass to the brim, and then proceeded to overfill it so more sake filled the saucer. It was a nice touch (and one that our server said would only happen there). I also had a Japanese beer called Ginga Kogen. It was very, very good and Miso Izakaya is apparently the only place in Atlanta to get it. I highly recommend it.

The atmosphere is great and the service is excellent. Our waiter was very helpful and described many things on the food and drink menus that we were unfamiliar with. It wasn't very crowded though. I really hope this places makes it. It's a very unique dining experience and I will be going back for sure.

It's not a real Japanese Izakaya.
It's an Asian Fusion restaurant.
I tried their lunch menu on a Friday.
Sushi was soso the only thing I like was the Sashimi Salad.
Which someone has post the picture on here already.
I will not say I will go back to this restaurant again.

UNWIND IN STYLE AT MISO IZAKAYA
by Megan St. James
The talented Chef Guy Wong studied at the Tsuji Culinary Institute in Osaka and later worked with Master Chef  Zaku Abumi at Nenohi. Upon returning to Atlanta, Wong noticed that the popular izakaya trend was missing from Atlanta's food scene. In February 2009, Atlanta entered another phase of its culinary evolution when Miso Izakaya opened in the re-vitalized Old Fourth Ward on the edge of Inman Park.  Typically when one goes into a Japanese restaurant you think sushi, I do- no I mean I did until I tasted the other half of Japanese dining.  While the sushi at Miso is plentiful, fresh and divine, it is what Chef Wong does with his yanagi ba knife that is simply amazing. The Kona Kapachi, Shiro Maguro, and the Hotategai nigiri and sashimi makes ones want more, but don't get stuck here.

In Japan, an izakaya is where one goes to unwind after a busy day. These gastro-pub like restaurants/ bars are informal yet lively. The combination of refreshing drinks and exotic food makes for perfect combination to assure an exciting means to relaxation. The food is served tapas style (tapanese) so it can be shared with friends. It goes extremely well with ShoChu and Sake.  What's ShoChu? It's a distilled beverage native to Japan that is made from sweet potato, barley or rice. and is similar to fine vodka, but goes down way too easy.  The foods at Miso are a perfect match with these treats. After tasting several of the drinks that Lindy Colburn (Midcity Cuisine, Beleza mixologist) created for Chef Guy, I am a believer that this will become the distilled spirit of the future.  Try the Chu-hi with fresh squeezed orange or the Basil Lemonade and you too will become a believer as well...

As with all Japanese restaurants, the meal starts with a bowl of miso soup and a salad. According to Japanese mythology, miso is a gift to mankind from the gods to assure health, longevity and happiness. Here, the miso soup made with a yellow miso in dashi broth that cleanses and teases the palate for the parade of carefully prepared dishes. The delicious Buta Kakuni is pork belly that is simmered for 16 hours in sake, mirin and soy sauce, it simply melts with fine oriental flavors in your mouth.  The so light and airy Katsu Bun is a steamed bun filled with panko crusted pork tenderloin topped with sake mustard cabbage-yummy!!!.  The perfectly prepared pork filled steamed dumplings with toasted sesame and a touch of garlic is easily best Gyoza in town, wow, so delicate and loaded with fine flavors.

The crispy Cha Gio spring rolls are filled with minced chicken, shrimp, vermicelli, and wood ear mushrooms are served with a yuzu dipping sauce.  Every bit of it was scrumptious and had a taste I was not expecting.  The Ebi Mayo- jumbo shrimp tossed in a spicy tobanjan kewpie mayonnaise was one of those dishes that you hated to see the last bite disappear.  The popular Japanese treat is the Kare Pan- deep fried pocket dough stuffed with curry ground  beef, shallots, and potato; it is neither oily nor soggy, but instead perfectly crisp with a warm heavenly filling. There must be a song somewhere called Kare Pan in Paradise.  OK can these dishes get any more exotic, well yes? The sushi grade seared tuna with a touch of edamame basil pesto on top of French bread was divine.  But the otherworldly, ginger scallion lobster tail makes one a true believer in Chef Guy's talents.

Since all of the senses have been teased, one can't forget the sweet tooth.  Sous Chef  Melissa Allen has created a raspberry whipped cream chocolate mousse with a touch of lemon that's simply decadent.  For lunch, there is a special combo menu for $9.00. At Miso izakaya, the interior designed by TaC Studios is warm and inviting with its  touch of sophistication that only the Japanese culture can portray.  When you get that urge for sushi, challenge it with the izakaya style foods and drinks and you too will unwind in style.

As always, good service (friendly), good sushi, good wine and ShoChu.  A consistent favorite in the neighborhood.  Affordable and healthy option with warm atmosphere.  Good for date night or casual dinner with friends.  Keep an eye out, we'll be back!  (now, if only they would fix thier website AND perhaps run some specials on occasion!)

great new choice for sushi in town!
wonderful, comfortable space, attentive and informative service, GREAT food.
we began with agedashi tofu (which i could eat happily at every meal), lamb chops, and the beef empanada. the tofu was delicate and perfectly crisp outside; the empanada had a delicious panko-crumb crust and a very flavorful, expertly-diced interior. as for the lamb chops?? our little table of 3 fell silent as we all tried to suckle every last speck of meat off the bone. YUM. yeah.
sushi-wise, we ordered three rolls and everything was superb. very fresh, and the flavors were awesome! the names of the rolls escape me in my food coma, but i can assure you, you won't be disappointed.
5 stars, can't wait to return.

I will definitely be returning.  I loved the atmosphere, and the food was very good.  Try the lamb chops (you can cut them with your fork - or, er, chopsticks) and get a fun cocktail.  Inman Park and Old Fourth Ward residents take note of this gem in your midst!

Snazzy atmosphere, small and intimate. We dined alone on a Tuesday night, although when you have kids...date night starts at 6pm :).

The service was great, the food was tasty, the waiter was witty and helpful with menu.

At the moment no liquor license and hadn't thought to bring my own wine.

I will return with a bottle of wine of my own.

I've been to Miso 3 times since it opened.  It's quaint and contemporary spartan in a good way.  I always sit at the sushi bar.  The chefs are super nice but don't understand a word you're saying (even if they act like they do.)  The rolls are all great.  Medium to Expensive on the pricing.  They offer free parking. Oh, and they finally have their liquor license, which is a big plus for me.

Checked this place out with some friends and really enjoyed it.  I've been eagerly awaiting its opening after I heard about it going into that space a while ago.  Atmosphere is very nice - clean and modern.  Service was excellent.  They still didnt have their booze license but we brought a couple bottles of wine which made our experience that much better.  They did give us some complimentary sake which was very nice of them.

Dishes recommended:
Kyoto Lamb Chops (marinated in a madras curry)
Miso Short Ribs (very reminscent of korean style short ribs in the flavor)
Tamari Ebi - seared shrimp with sauce
House salad and miso soup also were solid.
Agedashi tofu

I wish they had the hamachi kama when I was there because it's my favorite izakaya dish but they were already out.

I'm intrigued by this new installation in Inman Park.  The sushi was much better than I was expecting and we may be back just for that.  It was still BYOS (bring your own sake), which we actually liked because it kept the price down.

The salad is HUGE and should probably be shared.  It was good though (high quality lettuce - not iceberg).

I got the Beef Yakiniku, which was very tender and well-seasoned.  I tried my friend's Kyoto Lamb Chops.  They were yummy too although I wish the madras flavor had been a bit more pronounced.

Unfortunately they were out of the pork belly and potato krokke  ("Croquettes" with ground beef), so we'll want to come back to try those.

We'll be back to see what else this place has to offer, but it's definitely off to a good start so far.

Miso Hungry

Whenever the wife and I wanted really good Sushi, and I mean a notch higher than our usual place (Sushi Avenue), we would drive aaaaaall the waaaaaay to Buckhead (yes, we are spoiled in town drivers) to a little delightfully delicious place on Peachtree called Starfish. Yuuummy! For about a year and a half now, we have been looking for that "notch above" place in OUR own locale - the Kirkwood, Decatur, L5P, E-Atl areas. Well, damned if we didn't finally find it! I have to curse at least once per review ;)

The place is called Miso Izakaya . Where is this new intriguing place you might ask? Calm down! It's on Edgewood Ave in Inman Park/Old Fourth Ward just past the Beltline Bridge heading west toward Atlanta; it will appear before your very eyes in the neomodern brick building on the left, 619 Edgewood Ave to be specific.

The interior smartly blends light and dark elements such as stained wood accents and trim against white washed exterior walls. The lighting is also very pleasing and gentile on the eyes. We were seated at a table in the middle of the establishment and felt almost as if in a booth due to the use of materials and lighting.

The highlight of our evening was the two Japanese tapas-style plates we ordered in addition to our sushi dinner. I ordered the Kakuni, an unbelievably delectable assortment of braised Berkshire pork belly served with a not-too-salty soy reduction. I was, at first sight, a little intimidated. It was just me, my chopsticks and three hefty strips of pork belly with a lovely garnish of chopped scallions on top. I very quickly discovered this pork was so tender I could effortlessly pull each bite from my bamboo ware without making a scene. The pork had just the right amount of meat vs. fat. The sauce did not overpower the dish, and the scallions added a nice firm textual contrast to the succulent pork. Is this heaven? Close.

My wife had the Agedashi Tofu. When the server set the dish on our table, I was instantly seduced by the aroma of what smelled like a delicious Vietnamese fish sauce. The silken tofu and Benito were tempura fried to perfection, the tofu akin to battered, fried brie. The soy fish sauce really made this dish shine. We found ourselves continually laddeling it on the tofu bite after delicious bite.

The sushi was extremely fresh and skillfully rolled. It was easily on par with Starfish. We ordered a plethora of maki and handrolls, none of which disappointed. We were definitely getting full and didn't need anything heavy to end our evening. What's the answer....complimentary frozen grapes on skewers to cleanse the palate, of course. I know it sounds cheesy, but the grapes were truly appreciated at the end of our filling meal.

Holy crap how much is this all going to cost me, you might ask - definitely not as much as MF Sushi and not even as much as Starfish. Our tab for two was $62; not bad... Parking - no valet, YAYH! It's Self Park with no more than a 12yd walk to the door. Now Miso full!!

Ciao.

What do we get for ten dollars? Every ting you want. Everything? Every ting!

Sittin' at home with my pouch on empty, I got the phone book for a place to eat.
Picked up the telephone and dialed the seven digits.
Yo, this is Fraudie Buddha, are you down with the full menu?
I arrived at their house, opened the door.
Not having no idea of what the kitchen had in store.
I'm like a dog with a treat, IBS without warning.
I have an appetite for Izakayas 'cause Miso ornery.

Oh, Miso ornery... Ohh, Miso ornery... Ohh, Miso ornery...

Me no love you long time.... And here's why:

Butter Clams - 8 tiny boiled frozen clams tossed with onions and watered down butter sweat. Edible but @ $1.12 a piece? ...Eh.

Potato Krokke - "Croquettes" with ground beef... None were found in these instant mashed tater tots. Server sez "It's in there..." as if she was in a 1984 Prego commercial. Here's $5 for the comic relief.

Chirashi -  Inverted bowl of sooshee wice on a plate topped with 6 slices of spongy chum. All I could think was... "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?" "Sponge FOB Sashimi". $8 plate of fish bait.

Tonkatsu Ramen - Chewy pork belly instead of a fwied pork cutlet with Top Ramen fresh from the bag. It claims a "30 hour broth"... Tasted more like a 30 second broth (mix soup paste with hot water, stir and enjoy!). $10??? I had more defined flavors from a Cup O'Noodles for 50 cents.

2.5 Star.

My boyfriend and I have been to Miso twice and couldn't be more pleased.  We have ordered sushi, edamame, spring rolls, and some other shrimp app and loved all of it.  The sushi especially, is quite delicious.

Don't expect a full bar menu just yet, or top notch service, but give the people a break.  This beautiful new restaurant is trying to learn the ropes, and doing a great job so far.

I've been waiting for their opening ever since last year and had a lot of high expectations.  I've now been here twice since their opening and although they still have some kinks to work out, I'm definitely a fan.  Although it wasn't quite as casual and grungy as some of the izakaya spots that I'm used to in NYC, I still liked their modern minimal decor and it's still a nice spot to hang out for drinks and some food.  I've tried many of their small plates on the izakaya menu in last 2 visits and so far have been pleased with just about all of them.  What was a real nice pleasant surprise for me though was the quality of their sushi, which is something I wouldn't necessarily expect from an izakaya bar.  This place has now become my new favorite neighborhood place to get some sushi when I don't want to make the effort of going to MF.

Of course, an izakaya bar is nothing without a nice full bar of sake and Japanese beers to accompany the food, and as of this week, they still don't have their liquor license yet.  Although this makes the restaurant very incomplete at the moment, I rather enjoy the freedom of BYOB, not to mention the huge benefit of reduction in your dining cost.

I am looking over my receipt as I begin to write this review and see that I was seated at Table 13. How appropriate for the review that I am about to write.

Japanese food in Atlanta is fairly common. Good Japanese food however is few and far between. When I began seeing the signs for Miso on Edgewood (near my home), I was very excited. It would be a nice departure from the sushi places that everyone refers to as "Japanese food". Being in the neighborhood, I took advantage of this being the opening night with Shelli. Who knew what was to come.

Walking in here, you have very high hopes for the food. The place is smallish, but nicely decorated. Nice mixture of contemporary design with Japanese influence. The abundant use of wood is a great crossover to the Japanese design style. The decor however was the highlight of this newly opened establishment.

As soon as we were seated, we were informed that this would be a sushi-only night. "The chef didn't want to open up with a 1/2 broken menu" was the explanation. I was already weary of what was to come. Shipments from Japan didn't make it in time we were told. There goes the reason for my excitement over this place.

We did however have a chance to look at the izakaya menu, and it is chock full of the kinds of things I ate growing up. Amazing how they are neglecting the main thing that makes them "special" in Atlanta. What a horrible oversight.

The sushi menu was standard fare for the most part. Here is what we ordered:

Seaweed Salad
Hamachi Kama
Dragon Roll
Shrimp Tempura Roll
Sashimi/Sushi Combo

As we decided on the menu, we were offered complimentary beverages. Chardonnay, Merlot, Budweiser, and Miller Lite. Where the hell are the Japanese beers people??? Get this figured out please. I opted for a Bud, the all American beer, while Shelli opted for Chardonnay. We all know that they both sucked, but at least they were free.

As we waited for our food, we looked around and saw that this was probably the softest of openings. There was a party of 8, and a couple of scattered tables of 2-3 throughout the place. 1/3 to 1/2 full at best. With a 1/2 menu, this should be no problem right? Wrong! Keep reading...

The Seaweed Salad came out first. Standard fare. The one at Hashiguchi Jr. kills it no problem. Seems like the one from Whole Foods.

The Hamachi Kama, which I didn't expect to see on the menu, was decent, though completely fried. The portion was huge, which was nice, but 1 side of it was undercooked. Poor frying on the kitchen's part. The smaller half was done quite nice though, but really, just poor execution.

The sashimi/sushi/rolls were to come out next, but it took about 45 min for them to arrive... WTF??? It's not like you're cooking the things! 1/3 full house and the server kept blaming the table of 8 holding up the queue. If you can't handle a table of 2 in addition to a table of 8, I see many more problems to come. Thank goodness they didn't have their full menu running tonight.

They brought out the sashimi/sushi first. Oops, they brought me out the incorrect order. RETURN! It was about 20 minutes before the right one came out. No rolls for Shelli yet.

The sushi/sashimi was mediocre. The sashimi was watery, and tasted bland. The sushi was okay. The roll was just standard fare for Atlanta. Nothing special at all.

By the time I was finishing, Shelli's rolls came out. The Shrimp Tempura roll was okay, but they left too much shrimp shell in the roll, leaving the end pieces inedible. The Dragon Roll came out incorrect. RETURN! The sushi chefs, who I can't see being overworked on a night like tonight, had managed to neglect the avocado that was clearly supposed to be on the roll. The shit of it all is that no one seemed to notice or even know that it should have been on there to begin with. We had to consult the menu with the manager to clear that up. Christ!!!

Finally everything came out the way things should have. We were disgusted at this point... But our sever came back asking about dessert. She said it would be comp'd (fuck it better be at this point). I ordered what she called "Green Tea Peripherals". What she meant to say was Profiteroles. Ah the language barriers... Mind you she's not Japanese and was more white than me.

They came out and I ate 2. Shelli nearly spit it up. Very forgetful if you ask me.

As we wrapped things up, I was anticipating what would be comp'd. Surely the undercooked Hamachi Kama. Surely the Dragon Roll. Well when the bill came, the only thing comp'd was the dessert. On top of this I was charged for a green tea that I didn't even order. What nerve. I was sorely disappointed.

I begrudgingly paid the bill and we split. I don't know when the full menu will be online, but it better be soon for them as this place as just sushi is horrid. They need something to draw people in, and the service and the food tonight just wasn't it.

I'll check back in a few months... Maybe.

The food here was excellent and so were the creative drinks. My friend had frozen grapes in his. What could be better than that. We went around 7 on a weeknight and there wasn't a soul there and they placed some sort of Trance music, but other than that, the food and service were great.

Let me start off by saying this night started dead sober and ended in a boozefest the likes of which only spring breakers usually see.  Blame it on the BYOBooze.  Personally, i blame PBR for making their beer so tasty.

I digress.  Always.

We joined a few couples here for dinner and drinks and were lucky enough to get the big bar table near the door.  They can actually serve beer or wine at this point but no liquor.  They were happy to let us bring in whatever (including a 2 liter of coke, classy!) and were happy to refridgerate and pour drinks.

We ordered edamame and a few sushi rolls.  The sushi selection isn't quite as out of control as RuSans but there's a good, unique mix of options.  The rest of the group ordered similar stuff.

From what i remember, the sushi was fully on point.  It was colorful, fresh, and extremely tasty.  I probably ate more fish than Jeremy Piven that night.  Fortunately i won't have to cancel my Broadway debut or whatever.

The staff was extraordinarily friendly and by the time 9:00 rolled around they had a great full crowd in their cozy little restaurant.  The space is warm and feels big despite not being much larger than Wasabi in Castleberry.  Suffice it to say our waiter got his share of tip despite us drinking our own bev.

I don't know the full details of this place - i wasn't told when they'd have a full liquor license and i think they plan to reveal an even more robust menu.  Still, drinking on the cheap is reason enough to give Miso a try...and never fear, they do at least have Saki.

My initial impression of Miso Izakaya on Edgewood near the Thumbs Up Diner is that the marketers have gotten out of control. Let's start with the name. The term "izakaya" traditionally refers to a Japanese bar that serves good small plates of food. Then I read the early buzz about Miso Izakaya being called a "gastropub" and I really just shake my head. Especially when you consider the place doesn't yet have a liquor license and is BYOB! Has the term "gastropub" officially lost all meaning? I have a different description for Miso Izakaya that you may be familiar with: Sushi Bar. There are several appetizers on the menu and a full sushi bar, both in terms of seating and menu.

The sushi is above average but since the differentiation is supposed to be the small plates, let's focus on that. I tried numerous offerings including the tonkatsu plate, the tender beef teriyaki (served warm), and the Gyoza (pork dumplings). All of these were quite good, but let's be honest, nothing too adventurous. The "buttered clams", one of the more interesting options, were hard to eat. The bowl was overpowered by onion slices, and the clams were not very willing to be extracted from their shells. The sauce, as the name would suggest, was very buttery and tasty, but there wasn't anything you could really do with it once you finished the clams.

In the end, I liked Miso Izakaya and will probably return for the sushi. The service was great, and they even gave me a free Miller Lite (they can't sell you one, but I guess if they like you, they may offer one to you). But if you are thinking this concept is completely new to Atlanta, you may be disappointed. What it is is an above average sushi bar in an area that doesn't have a lot of options for that kind cuisine.

Miso is a hop, skip and a jump from my house.  So it was cool to be able to walk over and check it out.  The decor is nice and has an intimate feel to it.  This would be a good spot to meet a potential sweetie for a lunch date or your sweetie sweetie for a nice, relaxing dinner.  The service was also good.  This was my 2nd sushi experience and I really enjoyed it.  I will definitely be coming back.  It's never crowded when I pass by so I hope they can stay in business.

After waiting over two months for the restaurant to open, my experience at Miso Izakaya was definitely worth the wait.  Great place for our Valentine's date.  We arrived after 9pm, and the restaurant was not crowded.  Very intimate with dim lighting and modern, chic decor.

They now have their full menu, but still no liquor license.  BYOB with no corkage fee.  We started with a house salad and miso soup.  Typical orders, but both delicious.  For small plates, we ordered shrimp/veggie tempura and beef teriyaki.  The beef was extremely tender, juicy and well seasoned.  From the sushi menu, the rainbow roll and the bagel roll were excellent choices.  The fish is very fresh and melts in your mouth.  Great presentation and decent portions.

Our server was very friendly, bringing us complimentary frozen grapes at the end of our meal presented on thin skewers placed  in a vase of flowers.   The prices are also reasonable, our most expensive item being the rainbow roll for $11.

Mizo Izakaya is a great addition to Inman Park, and I will probably be back again this week!

First off, the place is decorated very well. Bredan Butler from Tokikata Gardens did the landscaping outside and the really beautiful driftwood sculptures inside making the interior a unique standout space.

Now the food. Well, I guess I'm the first to say that I got to order off the full menu. I share a lot of the same feelings as Naoya, but we've got to remember here that the place has been open a little less than a week and Guy (the owner) has really been busting his ass trying to tend to all the details. I'm the first one to tear a slacking establishment a new one, but it may be too early to tell at this point.

Having said that, there should be some things that are right out of the gate for a Japanese restaurant. The miso is good, but the portion is way too small (about the size of a large soy sauce dipping bowl). I had a few things off the Izakaya dishes and while I can't remember all of the names ( mainly due to the fact we were at a table of 12 and were sharing), all of the dishes were let's say...decent. Nothing was bad per say, but nothing was blowing my mind. The sushi is solid, but again...not anything out of the ordinary.

They are also currently waiting for their liquor liscense so it's BYOB which I have to say is awesome. There is no corking fee and they will chill anything you bring. We had sake, wine and beer. It made the night a lot more fun and was a lot cheaper than ordering what we consumed.

The service was good for a 12 person table, but I did notice that the dishes coming out were sporadic and some people waited 20+ minutes for the same sushi that the person next to them was having. I'm sure first week hiccups.

It's good to see establishments continuing to try to make something happen in SE Atl. I'll go back in a few weeks to see if the kinks have been hammered out.

I wouldn't call this a review so much as an informative post.  As Naoya said, the full menu (and thus the main draw) of the restaurant is unavailable.  The hostess informed me that it would be Thursday at the earliest and Friday at the latest.  More to be said, but I'll hold off until I have a chance to try the Izakaya dishes.

In the meantime, unless you are a stones throw away, there is no reason to choose this place over any of the other sushi options in the area.  None are excellent, and a handful are ... "okay fine ... i might as well."  This is one of them.  Disregard the rating entirely ... it's a first impression and a partial one at that.

Went there last week with a few of my friends for her birthday and we enjoyed every moment of it. The service was spot on. I also notice that the menu have changed since the last time I've been there. We had the pork belly, lobster, lamb chops, sushi and many other dishes but I don't know how to pronounce the name and I don't want to butcher it. They also have a large selection of drinks. My favorite drink was the strawberry shochu and my other friend had the lemonade basil shochu. I will be sure to come back as often as I can when I'm around the area or visiting my friend.

Wow.  My husband and I went there last night and it was a FANTASTIC experience.

We sat at the sushi bar, and were pleasantly surprised that they are in fact serving a full menu.  Started with sushi of very high quality.  Sake nigiri, buttery.  Uni, very fresh, salty, perfect.  Maguro, blood red.  Yellowtail, silky and mild.

Moved onto the other menu items, beef tenderloin was good, but the standout dish was definitely the yellowtail cheeks.  VERY limited quantity, the chefs told us they usually only have one available.

Most memorable were the service staff.  We spend time in Tokyo and you always leave with memories of the charismatic, social sushi chefs, and Miso Izakaya was definitely the same.  You got to know the people who are serving your food, where it came from and when.

Highly recommend it, we will be back often.

As a side note: they still don't have a liquor license, but we brought our own beer, which they kept chilled and offered glasses, with no additional fee.  Didn't make the experience any less, but wouldn't have minded a sake...or 5.

Great addition to Edgewood corridor.
I really enjoyed it.
Check if they have their liquor license yet - if not, bring your own bottle.

Walking into Miso, I felt a little out of place. I was in a hoody, torn jeans and ratty old cap. It was Friday night and some rather well to do people were on dates. I was a little surprised, I mean this is the O4W. But the trend of nice restaurants popping up on Edgewood Ave continues. Anywho, I thought that this might not be the place for me, until I sat down and looked at the menu. I ordered their fried dumplings, fried shrimp and the dragon rolls. All were presented excellently and the ingredients were superbly fresh and full of flavor. The atmosphere is a little too stuffy for me, I almost felt like everyone was watching me and laughing every time I clumsy used my chopsticks. But the food and service were excellent. I might be a little biased about the service though, since I now have the hots for our waitress. I will definitely return, and not just for the delicious food.

A beautiful restaurant, tried a sampling of the small plates, very good and a sushi roll. I was happy with what I ordered and the menu looked interesting, I am dying to go back and try more of the sushi. I also loved it is walking distance from my home. No wine list yet, they are hoping for March, so BYOB and have a cheap good date night. Check them out!!!!!

Well I was afraid. But fear was conquered! Knowing that we could bring our own booze we stopped, bought some Japanese beer and a bottle of wine.
We were greeted with warm smiles and great tunes playing. Deana was our server, and she was great leading us thru the menu. Compared to other sushi places Intown, there is no pretension.
Sitting at the communal table, we ordered sushi to start and had some gifts from the kitchen! Everything was very fresh with a sparkle. I think we over ordered, I mean we had so many plates of food. I love small plates, order a little bit of this and that.
We know the chef, and we told him what we liked - so he designed our meal from the menu. My husband had the beef belly sandwich- and wanted to plan a return for lunch.
I had some tempura shrimp, which was so light and crispy- it melted in my mouth.
Then we had deserts that put me over the moon! A beautiful chocolate-melt of a cake with a side of green tea ice cream, my husband and I fought! Then there was the green tea crème Brule with a delicate lace cap top, yummmmy!
We live in the neighborhood, and it was great to see fellow 'townies' making themselves at home. The servers were really great, and very interested in feed back. I think that many of the comments made in the 'cyber-sphere' have made them even more determined to bring people back.
It is such a lovely place, the food was great- better get there soon!
The communal table rocks!

Very nice space, clean and industrial, but lots of wood which really warms up the place. A friend and I started with some kimchi, because I love the stuff. It was quite spicy (good thing), but I was hoping for a bit more vinegar flavor. We then moved on to the beef yakiniku, which were cubes of beef marinated in garlic and salt. Completely delicious, approachable dish. I also have quite an affinity for dumplings of all sorts, so we ordered the Gyoza pork dumplings. You have the option of steamed or pan fried, and of course we went for the fried. They were piping hot, and served with a cooling dipping sauce. They were crispy, a little chewy, and delicious. We then had the sashimi combo, all selections were fresh, well-cut, and artfully served. The selections were a nice mix from the standard toro to tako (octopus). Finally we ended the meal with warm chocolate cake with sake sabayon. It was rich couple of bites served with your choice of green tea or red bean ice cream that perfectly capped a wonderful meal. Service was great and the overall experience was fantastically comfortable.

Great food and cool space! I had the Yaya Maki specialty sushi roll and it was delicious. I also tired the $9 lunch combination with was a great value--- miso soup and salad (the dressing was great), the beef terriyaki & the haru maki spring roll.  The service was on-point and the atmosphere was very organic, natural, and clean. I love the wooden community bar table and the fresh flowers. I will be back for more very soon.
