Mirbeau: ooh la la
Beautiful Monet like settings. I stayed at the Mirbeau for business trip so I didn't get to try out the spa. The furnishings are French provencial. The beds are comfortable... but the bathrooms are a sight to see! IThe bathroom suite is almost as big as the rest of the room! You have a claw foot tub, shower, toilet and sink. But you have to walk about 10 steps to get to the shower! (OK maybe 8 steps, I'm short. ) The tub has Mirbeau herbal stuff that smell very nice. I like the pepperminty shower stuff. In the samples, I smelled lemon verbena? And rosemary? I forget what. Not perfumey, which I can't stand. The Giverny restaurant food is excellent. A little pricey over all, but hey, the company is paying the bill. Outside, there is a pond with waterlilies and japanese bridge. A waterfall finishes the scene.
Overall, this place is BEAUTIFUL. I would definitely come back to stay with my honey, some weekend and get the spa treatments. They have inhouse fitness classes, yoga, bootcamp, etc...
Oh by the way, if you insist on bringing your laptop, the wireless service in the Inn is very weak. Bring your network cable.... save some trouble.
I'm reviewing the restaurant, Giverny, because the hotel rooms are nothing to write home about. Amazing food! One of my top 5 meals ever!!! I have been twice and had the 4 and 5 course meals with wine pairing. Everything is spectacular!
I love the spa at Mirbeau. I have been there a few times for body wraps, massages, etc. and it is HEAVENLY. The spa staff is very professional and friendly and I highly recommend it to anyone. BUT, I have one major problem with Mirbeau....
I am getting married in September '09 and Mirbeau was one of my top 3 venue choices for my wedding. In fact, it was my #1 choice at first. I love the Monet gardens out back, the food is amazing, there is an option for an outdoor wedding, the guest rooms are beautiful, etc... but one thing spoiled it for me....
My fiance and I both grew up in the Upstate NY area but we now live in Boston. I made an appointment with the woman who does the wedding arrangements this past summer to come in for a tour and to discuss our plans. We were in the area for 2 days only to visit several potential venues for our wedding so we were on a tight schedule. Well, guess what? She did not show up for our appointment! She did not call to let us know that she was not coming. We waited for about an hour wondering what was going on. I checked my emails to make sure I had the right date and time- which I did. We asked the front desk staff to call her at home and on her cell- which they did several times, but no answer. Finally, the manager as well as the food & beverage manager, who were wonderful, took us on the tour and answered all of our questions.
That next Monday when I returned to Boston, I checked my email to see if the wedding consultant had emailed me to explain what had happened. Nothing. No apology for missing our appointment. Tuesday- nothing. I finally emailed her to see what had happened. I still was considering Mirbeau, but, honestly it depended on how attentive & professional our wedding planner would be and so far I didn't have a very good impression. However, I thought I'd giver her the benefit of the doubt- maybe something really bad had happened. She replied back right away saying that she had broken a tooth on a candy apple the night before and was at the dentist (on a Saturday morning?). OK, fine, but she couldn't have called to let us, or at least the staff at Mirbeau to let us know she wasn't coming??? We also ended up being late for our other 2 appointments that day because of her. My decision was made then and there- Mirbeau was ruled out as one of our top choices as a wedding venue.
I really would have loved to have had my wedding at Mirbeau, but if that is the level of professionalism they offer for their wedding consulting services, NO WAY! Mirbeau is supposedly a high class establishment and thus I'd expect a top notch staff and the highest level of professionalism. I did not receive that service, nor the common courtesy of a phone call to let us know that she was not able to make the appointment. And then, not even an apology afterwards? Did she not care to make a "sale" on a wedding? I'm assuming that she would make some sort of commission on it. Needless to say, we ended up choosing another location with a very attentive and professional wedding planner.
