I love the one in San Ramon and figured this one had to be just as good and it was!
We only come here when we have to get our cars serviced at the dealership, since it's right across the street and they offer their customers a 10-20% coupon to dine at Miraku, added bonus! =)
The service is excellent, we were seated promptly and had water and yummy hot green tea before we even looked at our menu.
We started with the California roll and the spicy shrimp roll and my hubby had the beef with calamari strip combo which came with soup, salad and rice...lots of food and it was tasty! I ordered just a order of the beef and rice combo which also came with miso soup.
Our meals were both tasty, although I liked my hubbys calamari strips the best. The dinners also came with complimentary dessert...either fruit, green tea ice cream or sorbet. Which was a nice treat since it was really warm that evening.
I've never been disappointed at Miraku and the service in the WC restaurant is just as good as the San Ramon location. Excellent service, good food, and reasonable prices. Will definitely be back, even when we dont have to service our cars! hehe

What a pleasant surprise this was.
Went in for a nice, quiet lunch after having heard some rave reviews from friends and had the sushi lunch I needed. Now, I consider myself VERY picky when it comes to sushi (as you should be!!) and this was a solid sushi meal. The atmosphere is adorable and the staff makes such a sincere attempt to please-both important parts of the experience for me usually. I can't even begin to enjoy the food if there is bad service or something drastic is wrong with the environment. This is a dark, peaceful, clean restaurant with better than average sushi. I am only giving them 4stars because I love a sushi restaurant with a big selection. That being said-what they do they do very well.
Definitely worth a trip to this obscure Walnut Creek neighborhood.

Hmmmm........me thinks some Yelp review sabotaging is going on here. As a regular patron of Miraku, whose sushi I greatly relish, I feel that some of the reviews I've read here do not reflect the true dining experience in Miraku.
Having lived in Japan, and having several Japanese friends at whose homes I regularly eat, I'm quite familiar with a variety of types of Japanese dishes...........and most definitely, I know what good sushi is.
While ANY restaurant can displease a diner occasionally, some of the reviews of Miraku I've read here on Yelp, do not reflect in any way what the true dining experience at Miraku is.
For example.......one reviewer stated that .the distasteful smell of the restrooms could be smelled in the dining room.......RIGHT!............No restaurant would be able to stay open if that was truly occurring. Would you stay at, and order a meal, if that were truly the case? No one would stay and order a meal if was really happening,.......but.......one Yelp reviewer said that that's exactly what that reviewed did. They said they sat down and ordered a meal while they were smelling odors from the bathrooms. They then proceeded to later write a very negative review for Miraku. WHAT'S WITH THAT?!!
Let me suggest to those of you who are trying to find a really good Japanese/sushi restaurant at which to experience a really fine meal.....check out Miraku for yourself. To me, it's self-evident that if the competition has to resort to such extreme measures as posting blatantly false reviews, those competitors must feel themselves to be at a significant handicap when it comes to the quality of the meals they serve when compared to the quality Japanese cuisine served by Miraku.
I've been enjoying excellent dining at Miraku for over 20 years.........I wonder why I keep returning?
DISCLAIMER: I have no proprietary interest whatsoever in Miraku, but I do greatly look forward to, and greatly enjoy, my weekly dining experience at Miraku.

I've been a diner at Miraku since it opened over 20 years ago. I've eaten sushi from California, to… Read more »
Really not my fave... The food was mediorce the price was to much for the quality... It was cute how the waitresses were dressed in traditional Japanese attire but that was the most exciting thing there!
I hate it when my parents give me guilt trips!
I mean, the last time I visited them was just 3 weeks ago. COME ON!
Anyway, being the good daughter that I am (SUCKA!) and actually just wanting to hang out with mom and dad, we made a date to have lunch.
Word got out: my youngest bro wants to come too. And Aimee, my other bro's gf was hanging around the house, so she's coming as well.
* man, my lunch bill is getting more expensive *
Well, thank God for Miraku's bento boxes or I seriously would've been broke!
Their Bentos range from $7.95 to $11.50 depending on what you get: chicken, beef or salmon; with a California roll or tempura. We also ordered an extra order of tempura and assorted sashimi ($15). I've tasted fresher Yellowtail but the rest was fine.
Service is prompt and the busboys are constantly present, taking away dishes and refilling waters. At the end of our meal, I was confused whether the waitress was coming back to our table to take care of the bill, but since she took awhile, I ended up paying the $85 bill (including tip) at the cash reg in the front.
Next time, I'll give my 'rents guilt trips and making them come to the city.

Eek! Methinks not....is RIGHT! We have a hankering for some Japanese food so head to reliable Miraku. Service has always been questionable here, but the food was good enough for the sushi/noodle craving that it's easy to go there. We sat on the noodle side and there was only one other family in the restaurant on the other side of the wall. I ordered the nabeyaki udon that comes with 2 tempura shrimp. My soup had already come - so I was served (by our waitress) the tempura and was pleasantly surprised ('cause I forgot about the shrimp).
Then the busboy came by about 10 minutes later and dropped another dish of shrimp at our table. I said - "I think I already got my shrimp", but I don't think he spoke any english - or at least he didn't acknowledge my statement, so left the 2nd dish there. I was enjoying my meal and my conversation, when I hear some rucus at the food window situated behind the hubby. A point at our table by the busboy and then an angry waitress who practically sprints to our table (yes, in her kimono) said - "you were not supposed to get 2 orders of shrimp." I said - "uh, I've touched them" (because she looked like she was about to take them away). She repeated back to me "you touched them???" I felt scolded by my mom or something. Like it was my fault. She walks, no stalks away yelling at the busboy about these 2 goddamn shrimp. Kid you not, 3 minutes later, she comes back to the table and TAKES THE 2 REMAINING shrimp on the plate and then asks me - "do you want that piece?" She was referring to the fried bit that I pulled from one of the tempura shrimp. Are you kidding me??? I said "no" and away went the plate of shrimp. Holy crap! Can you believe that? There must be a shrimp crisis that I am unaware of... A minute later, I can hear the waitress drop off the shrimp to the other table. I only hope that it wasn't the 2 left on our plate and then replated to their table...ick.
I will never EVER go there again...sorry Larry M. This is not sabotage - just the real unbelieveable truth.
This place is OK for Sushi (Lunch). 3.5 stars
I had the Combination Deluxe bento box with Tonkatsu (pork), sashimi AND Chicken Teriyaki. In our party of 4 we also had the sashimi combination, the Salmon Teriyaki bento, and a tempura & Chicken Teriyaki bento.
$50: a bit pricey--the deluxe bento and the sashimi combos were $13 each (but look at the variety in the Deluxe). The others were $10.
Hits: Good clean-tasting fresh sashimi (2 types in my Deluxe). Excellent tempura, Really good teriyaki--not sweet and sticky. Sweet sliced pickle condiment appetizers
The miso soup was good as well. They also served each of us a small ice cream scoup which I thought looked like green tea, but did not taste like it somehow.
Misses were slight: no pickled ginger served (first time anywhere). Tonkatsu was two thumb-sized pieces.
The service was very friendly and reasonably fast.
Really expensive and just plain generic. I've had the sashimi here a few times and some other authentic Japanese dishes such as Chawan Mushi, Beef tataki, rolls, bento boxes, Unagi, and I've been disappointed with all of it. If you're here for California rolls, and other dishes like that, then sure, come here. Can't go wrong with that. I've come here 6-8 times and still not sold on this place.
Price- Expensive
Decor- Very nice and Homey
Service- Above average
Parking- Lot's of it, coming from the City, I love the parking here.
Food- Below average.
I don't understand the average 3 star rating??? This has got to be one of the best Japanese cuisine in the east bay. It has good authentic japanese food with a great ambiance. The sake maki and/or salmon hand roll is to die for. Everything I've ordered here has been fresh and top quality. The dinner entrees are really good too. We had a tonkatsu and it was the right amount of crispiness and the perfect tenderness for the pork.
Now to my favorite part --- the next door noodle house. They have the best udon I've ever tasted (other than the ones from Japan of course). It is chewy and flavorful, thanks to the amazing broth. The tempura is soooo good. The batter is fried to the right crispy level, it is as thin as it can get. If you want to make the waitress life difficult you can try and order the curry udon with tonkatsu. This is not on their menu but definitely worth trying.
Must I reiterate--- Best sushi place in the easy bay! With only one drawback, it is pretty expensive. But hey! You get whatever you pay for and this is something that's worth it! So go try it!

I'm always very hesitant to try out different sushi restaurants... and I say this because you never know what you are going to get when dealing with raw fish.
Miraku has been around for a while, but I've always driven by it and never gave it a second look. Last night, my boyfriend and I decided to be bold and stray from our usual sushi haunts. We were both pleasantly surprised!
I would highly recommend the Fire Dragon Roll, and the Super Dragon Roll was also tasty. The $12.00 sake sampler is a must! You may not walk out without paying a little over what you may be use to, but they have some very good rolls for a lower price than other local sushi places. I will look forward to splurging here again.

This is an all around performer. They are not the best, but they are the best in Walnut Creek. Their fish is fresh, and their normal entrees are excellent. I enjoy most everything here, but they can miss.
Like on their specials they may burn something, or overcook. But it's okay, I still love 'em.
My wife and I have been going here for three years. The udon is phenomenal. The sushi is right on. My wife always orders the super dragon roll. And the waitresses are actually Japanese, which is uncommon in Japanese restaurants for some reason. Kimonos are a plus in ambiance.
That being said, because it's family owned, not everything's perfect. Still, Miraku is easily one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area.

Don't be fooled by the fancy decor. They are doing it all wrong...
We ordered:
White Tuna sashimi- it was chewy and did not taste fresh at all
Salmon skin hand roll- very salty and the salmon skin was not good at all. The rice had the texture of day old rice.
Dragon roll- At least it really looked like a dragon-I'll give it that, but the tempura inside was over fried. Overfried taste= something fried previously, left out to long and to serve again they re-fried it TASTE..yech.
Salmon nigiri- Again, the fish was NOT even close to tasting fresh.
The only thing I liked of this meal was the green tea and free edame.
I would NOT come here again.

The location of this place is great since its easy to get to. The private parking lot is nice to have, too. The sushi, however, not delicious. The first time I came here was back in high school and I liked it then ( I must've not known a lot about sushi). I came again a few weeks ago and was disappointed.
My boyfriend and I went out to dinner because we didnt want to cook (something we rarely do) and I was not happy with the sushi. We got two different rolls and found the ingredients only average, not what you expect from sushi.
The service is nice, though...
I've been here a few times and every time I've gone the sushi has been fresh. The chirashi and sashimi dinners are just the right amount of food.
Today: The miso for starters was tasty. The pot of green tea was nice and hot. The oyako-don was also flavorful ($7.50). Ask for the red pepper flakes with black sesame seeds and seaweed to sprinkle on it. My niece's combo of salmon teriyaki and tempura ($10.95) looked good.
She actually gave me a piece of tempura because there was plenty to go around, and I liked it. Although, I wish the Japanese places here would serve the thicker sauce like some places in Japan.
All in all, I recommend this place. I'm still trying to get some friends together for the nabe. Just watch out for their ultra tiny parking spaces/lot. After 6pm, just park on the street to make things easy.

So I've been here a few times and if I say one thing it's that the place is consistent. Unfortunately it's consistent in the fact that it's not great. I've never had a bad experience, but every time I think "huh, could have gone somewhere GOOD for the price." It's not overly expensive, but it does add up and seem a little disappointing at the end.
So I stopped going....except I wanted noodles.
And next door to the main building is a front and a sign that says Miraku Noodles. I went once before for lunch, and we walked in ordered noodles and got them to go.
Tonight, being lazy I went for noodles. Walked in the doors under the big sign that says noodles into the room with tables and men preparing....(noodles?) Then it got weird.
The waiter? ushered me through the back of the noodle shop room, into a series of hallways, literally through the dark and pointed for me to go order at the restaurant. So a disgruntled lady took my order and I sat and waited.
I got my food home.
I should have just made it myself.
$11 bucks would have got me Bun at Le Cheval and that is always amazing. (but I didn't want to drive that far and fight parking. Look at what being lazy gets you kids!)
Instead I got udon that was fine, you can get the SAME at any grocery now, and some "seafood" and a quart of salt water. The broth was SO bad I had to drain it and just eat the noodles. It had no flavor other than salt. There were supposed to be vegetables, I had literally 2 leafs and that's it.
The whole thing was bizarre and not as wonderful as I wanted it to be.
I had originally wanted to go try R&J Noodle, but the negative reviews scared me away...I think this is when I just have to own up to the fact that Walnut Creek has literally crap for ethnic food. Everything has to be bland plain or simple.
Ugh, hopefully better luck next time.
At least they are consistent, I guess.
Nothing special! Not much parking. Nice decor, but yeah, as other yelpers mention "don't be fooled"
The service was bland, and the sushi was expensive. I most likely won't give this place a second chance. They're lucky to even get a second star. The second star is only because it's atleast better than my one star restaraunts.
Go to Yokoso instead if you're in Walnut Creek.
We came here near closing so we felt very rushed. Kinda understandable but still...we're paying customers so I was kinda agitated. Anyway, the servers were cute little Japanese ladies dressed up in Kimono's. The look of the place is nice. I'm fortunate not to have had the experiences some other yelpers had like hairs in their food but I feel a little grossed out reading that and thinking maybe I just didn't see it. bleah..
Anyway, we went for the noodles. I had the nabeyaki udon and bf had the tonkatsu ramen. We also ordered a gemini roll to share. I liked the gemini roll; it was good. The broth in the udon was light and refreshing. It was good though nothing spectacular. I didn't think it was pricey; about $10 for a bowl of noodle and less than $10 for a roll. We left spending a little over $30. I'll likely return to try some of their other items on the menu. And hopefully when I come back, it'll be an earlier time so that we're not rushed out of there.
If you know anything about quality Japanese food, you should recognize some of it here.
But I do agree, it has lost a star over the last year or so. One of the reasons for this might be due to a change in management. I have heard through reliable sources the original owner/manager is pursuing other ventures and has left Miraku to a relative to run. This relative managed the not-so-good Miraku in the Sacramento area.
The sushi is okay, but I have never gone there for the sushi. The cooked dishes are what Miraku is about. The tempura and nabeyaki udon are usually excellent.

It was a long day and I needed food ... FAST so I stopped in for some dinner and a couple glasses of wine. I was by myself and the woman gave me just the right amount of time to order and to eat (she wasn't all over me!). I didn't have any sushi but they did have a good selection. I had tempura as an app. and the salmon for my main course. If I drank sake this would be the place to go! They have a huge array of sake and even a "sampler" (one from the three types). However, I had a couple glasses of Wente's chardonnay - pretty good wine selection too.
Will definitely come back here! Sushi next time!
I'll definitely hit this place up again sometime.

Awwe. This time my Chicken Teriyaki was burnt. My friends Sukiyaki was really good so I guess it kind of evens out. Nothing really special to point out and it is kind of far away from my house. We did have a $12 a coupon though, that is always nice! 2 3/4 stars rounded to 3.

If your restaurant closes at 2:30pm for lunch and we walk in at 2:25pm and you still let us in, please have the decency to treat us like customers. We were rushed from the get go, which is what we expected since we arrived so late, but we were still excited about trying a new place. Unfortunately after we quickly ordered we were treated like we weren't welcomed at their establishment. At 3pm we weren't quite done with our meal, our dishes were taken away, and we were told we had to leave. Next time don't let us in if you're going to treat us like shit!! Actually, there will be no next time. :P
It's a Miraku they're still open!

First time at Miraku -- delightful lunch of Tonkatsu, Tempura, salads etc. -- a perfect Bento box without the box.
Tempura done exactly right. Tonkatsu was moist, crisp and had good flavor.
My friend said that he salmon was also perfect.
Service quick and friendly.
Prices very reasonable.
Can't wait to try dinner with my wife.
Perhaps I have just been incredibly lucky, but we have always been served good food here. Sushi, maki, teriyaki chicken, everything. The staff is part of the reason they are my favorite sushi place in WC; for an Irish girl and a Jewish boy, a nice older lady sternly tell you to finish *ALL* the food on the table is such a comforting, familiar experience. We didn't care for their california roll, but we really loved the samurai roll. I changed my rating just now from 5 to 4 stars because it smelled a little funky there during one trip, and though I may not be a sushi snob, funky smells irritate me to no end.
The ramen here is terrible. Oh wait, let me start with something positive... the chicken karaage is decent here. Well come to think of it its hit and miss... it was pretty good the first time I came here but gummy and over-battered the second time.
But this is one of the better places I've been to on the East Bay side. Good if you're too far from SM or SF.

The few times I've been there, I've had the saba shioyaki with soup, salad and rice. For $8.95 it was okay, but not a lot of food to be truly satisfied. The wait staff is not that friendly and it clearly shows that the staff is not really enjoying what they do by their attitude.
Parking is a problem at times when others are coming up and you are on your way out of the parking lot.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant! My family has been going here for years, and the waitresses are practically like family. Our family has been to many sushi bars and Japanese restaurants in the East Bay, but Miraku tops them all in food and ambiance.
The specials are great!

I had such high hopes since a lot of co-workers spoke well of the place...but man was it overrated!
We had to ask for our beer twice! And when they finally brought it, it was the wrong brand... AND the wrong size.
Our meal was mediocre. The toro was terrible. The hamachi was way too warm and the rice way too cold.
When we finally received the bill (which we had to ask for 3x) we paid it and didn't receive any change back. Who assumes that the change is their tip? Isn't this supposed to be a top restaurant in Walnut Creek?
I would like to hope that they were just having an off-night. Therefore making it a two star establishment.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is great with comfortable semi-private booths lining the walls of the restaurant and an indoor 'pond' in the center of the restaurant.
The same waiters and waitresses have been working here for at least 12 years and a few of them are truly Japanese and wear traditional outfits. The sushi is consistently fresh and well made as is their cooked food.
They make a fabulous nabeyaki udon with fresh seafood and vegetables and excellently cooked udon noodles in a clean tasting broth.
One thing, though - don't expect a whole lot of flexibility on the menu. I asked for chicken katsu (which is on their lunch menu) for dinner and they told me I couldn't have it even though I was willing to pay more for it.
They also make a delicious katsu-don (katsu cooked with egg and onion over rice) which my hubby and I find to be one of our favorite comfort foods, especially from this restaurant. I love their shrimp tempura roll and their soft shell crab roll.

I love love LOVE this place. If you want the real deal, this is it. I'm Japanese. My entire extended family is Japanese and we go here all the time for Authentic Japanese Cuisine. It's definitely one of the best of the East Bay (I think it's won several East Bay Awards). The waitresses are these cute Japanese women that glide across the floor in kimonos. My family and I always go back, because they know us by name there. We always sit in the corner booth by the sushi bar, a nice little tucked away private area.
Definitely try their specials. The super dragon roll is the best fusion I have ever tasted, and it's wonderfully presented. If you want to go for something more traditional, they have excellent sashimi cuts. I would recommend the maguro, hirame, the hamachi, and for the really brave, the uni.
If you go, make sure to get to know Hitomi. She's a stout women in her 60s. Very friendly. Very congenial. Just a lovely woman. I give this restaurant 5 stars for satisfaction and good value!

I wish there were zero star rating so that I could give it to Miraku. While living in the east bay, there aren't a lot of options for Japanese food, so I did some research online and picked this one.
We went there and were led to a small booth while there were plenty of bigger booths avaiable then. When I suggested to the waitress/hostess whether we could sit in a bigger booth, she instantly displayed disgruntle. And ever since then, we were facing cold service and slow responses.
We swore we would not go there the second time. And we never did.

If you're the kind of person that's into raspberry jam, nacho cheese, or habanero chocolate sauce on your sushi rolls, this isn't the place for you. This is an elegant, simple Japanese restaurant with consistently good, traditional japanese food. As with most places, the quality is dependent on the freshness, and I've never eaten sashimi here that's anything less than perfect. If you're into exotic (hip white people) sushi, this isn't really anything to get excited about. If you want a good, no-nonsense Japanese experience, this will definitely satisfy you.

My fiance brought me to this place on my request of must having "sushi" while we were visiting his mom's. This isn't a place that we often visit while in town because it's pretty pricey for what you get. I would say the overall experience was pleasant, good service, quiet/respectable atmosphere and cozy booths that run along the sides of the restaurant for smaller dining parties.
I had a Chirashi and it wasn't the best. The slices were slim and a tid bit slimy, but nice presentation and I was hungry so it was good . I would say because of the lack of authentic Japanese restaurants around, I would go back if I was absolutely dying for Japanese food but I am not going to be a regular customer.
I felt that they were expensive. The menu did not really appeal to me. My wife enjoyed her food. I can not believe that they charge for delivery! We decided no to eat there any more.

I like this place, for the most part. Their lunch combos are really good. You get a lot of food for cheap. I always get their Sashimi combination. It's sashimi, two little pieces of fried chicken, tempura, and your choice of teriyaki chicken or salmon. The sashimi is always fresh. My coworker always get the fried prawn and teriyaki chicken lunch plate. That comes with about 8 fried prawns, a salad, and your choice of teriyaki. AND they give you free ice cream! Love it! The only thing I hate is the parking, it totally sucks over there. Some servers really suck. The man is rude and there is one lady with glasses that you have to ask for things like three times. There's also one server lady that is always in a kimono, so she gives you a more authentic Japanese dining experience. The decor is really good too.

I have been going to Miraku for almost three decades. Lunch and dinner are both very good, with lunch being a great time to get your Japanese food fix for less. I love the Sukiyaki, true comfort food. So many of the new Japanese restaurants are feeling and tasting close to a fast food experience. Miraku still has a gracious feel with the food tasting more like we expect when we want an enjoyable evening out.

I love coming here. As a regular family spot, we come here for the relaxed atmosphere, fairly fresh fish, decent prices, and pleasant service. As a family of 4, we ordered enough for my "big-boned" brother and the total came out less than $80, including tip. I had the spicy tuna roll and hand roll, and they were both very spicy. My mom had an unagi bowl, and she had more unagi than her rice bowl (that's good). My brother had two special rolls, both were good, a little too much mayonnaise, but overall decent. My dad had an udon bowl, and he's a tough cookie to please. It's more "sauce" than raw sushi, but b/c the servers are nice and the decor is charming, I keep coming back.

Don't vent the bathroom air into the dining area. Your food is bad enough already, but adding the "Eau de Urinal Cake" aroma pushes the experience down to puke-worthy. This place is a dinosaur. If you want decent sushi, get out of Walnut Creek. Same for the ramen. I've been here a few times, and each time I felt like the food and service was getting worse. This last time it was unbearable. This is a good place to eat if you have no sense of smell or taste.

I grew up near Walnut Creek and have been going here since I was a kid. The service seems to be better at night than in the daytime, but I've only had one or two experiences that were less than wonderful. Some of the waitstaff has been there FOREVER. I miss Alice, but I like Ciena, too!
