One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
After 4 years in DC, I have FINALLY found a hair place. I've tried 3 or 4 and have always been disappointed by the overpriced mediocre haircuts.
I found Miracles because they were participating in Hawte Yelp event, but I desperately needed a haircut and couldn't wait 2 weeks for the event. I've run past this place hundreds of times and it's never registered on my radar, but after seeing their prices and the excellent Yelp reviews, I scheduled the earliest appointment I could make.
The girls here seem like such a great family and I actually enjoyed my haircut. She took her time with the haircut and did an amazing blowdry job. I've already scheduled my next appointment!
This review is specifically for eyebrow threading.
Ritu is fast! I went in yesterday with...well lets just say a full eyebrow that needed help from the heavens above. Ritu did me right in less than 5 minutes. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for more than 12 years and Ritu was the fastest I have ever experienced (still talking about thread ppl). Not only was she quick, I actually did not feel any pain. I know, you're thinking no pain while yanking hair from its root...yeap. No pain.
The location is great as well. It's only 2 blocks from the Rosslyn Metro Stop (Blue & Orange lines).
Go to her and you will always keep running back 4-5 weeks later for that touch up.
All the reviews are right. At Miracles, I received a very nice hair cut and coloring experience. Eli (E-lee) is nice, talkative, works fast and with purpose.
I came here instead of my usual place because my ass is broke. Well, I have money but not the kind of money where $200 hair dids can be commonplace. Not until I find myself that sugar daddy to supplement my needs.
I walked in about 30min late because I got stuck in that torrential downpour Saturday without an umbrella. But they were nice enough to offer to dry my clothes while I waited.
The fun began as I plopped into his chair and began the process of trying to beautify my mane. There wasn't a lot of time for instruction and I felt kind of awkward directing him about my hair. Either he didn't understand what I was saying, or didn't care.
Yes my roots now match my ends, but there is no oomph to it. Rather than brightening the faded color (last time my hair was done was March) he simply matched the two. So my hair is a little more brassy/ashy than I would prefer. Cut was good. We kept the length like I requested and threw in a bunch of layers. I don't know if he is used to working with my kind of hair (greasy roots, super dry ends, deceivingly thick, weighs down easily) because when I asked to take weight off the bottom he looked a bit confused.
The end results have worked out. My hair looks prettier. So the experience was very nice. I got a good hair cut and color. The reason why this place is awesome and why Miracles is receiving (a little under) 4 stars and could warrant future visits (with a lot more direction on my part) is the price. I paid 50% less for all of this than I would anywhere else.
Maybe I will get my cuts here and my highlights at my usual place. Whatever I choose, I'm sure I will be back sitting in Eli's chair once again.
I was so glad to find this place after my friend got her hair cut there and loved it. I had an awful haircut back in February at a different salon and was afraid to get it cut again. Miracles is just a few blocks from the Rosslyn metro and upon entering the salon they offer you a glass of wine. It does not get better than that. Elie listened to what I wanted and evened out the ends of my hair and did an awesome job! He refrained from using too much product andI left with super sleek hair and just for $30! I will definitely be back many times to come.
i hadn't gotten a haircut in over a year (gasp!) so you can imagine the split ends pre-Miracles--but then, the very next day after my haircut, i was approached by a complete stranger and complimented on my "beautiful, healthy-looking hair". That is ALL thanks to Elie!
they also have really great web specials (combo packs of cut, highlights, wax, etc) and the women who threaded my eyebrows did a great job.
This is only a review of the threading experience:
So I had never had threading before and I really just wanted my eyebrows waxed (need to keep the persian eyebrow under control!). Anyway, they convinced me and I did it and I'm sold. It definitely lasts WAY longer than waxing and I think the results are much prettier. The lady who does it is really nice and very fast! If she wasn't nice I would still go back because of her speed.
The salon itself is clean and the entire staff seems very friendly.
While I was waiting I looked at their jewelry which in my opinion is cool but VERY overpriced. (not sure who's paying $150 for a necklace in a hair salon...but not my place to judge).
Regardless, I'm very happy with my eyebrows!
Here are the things I hate about hair salons:
- when you get a shitty hair cut or crazy hair color (I got a side mullet once and unrequested pink hair another time)
- when the staff is snobby and pretentious and I feel like I'm not cool enough to have sat foot in the building
- when I have to make awkward small talk with the stylist or listen to him/her brag about how awesome he/she is
- when the stylist doesn't talk at all and I'm bored stiff for an hour and a half
- when it's way overpriced
- when the staff seems inexperienced or uneducated
- when your stylist hits on you the entire time and you feel like you're being held captive in the chair (ew, it was gross and weird)
For my first trip to Miracles (inspired by the reviews here), I am happy to report that none of the above complaints were experienced! Elie cut my hair, and not only did a great job, he also made the experience an enjoyable one! We had interesting conversations, that made me feel like we were sitting at happy hour. He listened to what I wanted to have done, asked questions to clarify, and then did an awesome job cutting and highlighting my hair! He (and the rest of the staff) made me feel like I was right at home - the environment was friendly and comfortable. I am so excited that I have (finally!) found "my" new salon am thrilled that it is only a 1/2 mile walk from my apt.
I went here based on the reviews I read, and I had a wonderful experience. Voula cut my hair, and she was very sweet and friendly and did a great job. I moved into the area a little over a year ago, and I've been going home to get my hair done but I decided it's time to find somewhere local. Also, my eyebrows were in serious need of some shaping and trimming, so I made an appt to get them threaded. Ritu did my eyebrows, and she was wonderful! Very friendly and did a great job.
I thought the prices were really good ($30 for a haircut and $15 for eyebrow threading -- I am used to paying much more) and it's close to my work, so I can easily stop in during a lunch break. I will definitely return! Everyone who was in there, customers and clients alike, looked like they were enjoying themselves.
I'm going to become a regular at Miracles - and not just because of the complimentary martini I was offered the first time I went. I came in desperate for a haircut, as my last hairdresser was an angry five-year old with a pair of scissors in hand (or might as well have been). I made an appointment with Eli and he ROCKS. I told him exactly what I wanted and he cut and styled my hair in a way that frames my face very well.
As for the salon itself, it's spacious and well-lit and it has a homey feel, mostly because of the super-friendly staff. It was my first time there yet I felt completely comfortable. AND it's right across from the Key Bridge, which is very convenient for me. So Hurray for Miracles! I'm not going to make the obvious pun - let's just say this place is heaven-sent.
I had a very nice haircut here. The price was awesome! I can't remember the last time I paid $35 for a salon haircut. I don't remember the guy's name but he was very nice and did a great job. I also appreciated the blow out for no extra charge as my hair is a little unmanageable. I am making this my new regular place!
I went to Miracles for the first time a few weeks ago to get my eyebrows waxed. I was convinced to try threading instead as it is less painful, quicker, the hair grows back slower, and it's the same price ($15). The staff was very friendly and easy to talk to. I forget the name of the lady who threaded my brows, but she was Indian and very nice. I would definitely reccommend this to my friends.
UPDATE - the price of a Men's haircut was dropped to $20 earlier this year
I've been going to Miracles for over 3 years. As of March '08 the price of a Men's haircut runs $40. That's steep. But there is something to be said for having someone you trust will give you a quality cut every time. I just tell Eli 'the usual' and it's as easy as that.
Also, for me Miracles is about convenience. I don't want to spend my Saturday mornings at a barbershop waiting 40 minutes just to get the right to have my haircut by some wildcard barber I haven't seen there before. Miracles is only 1/2 block away from my office and I can pop over at lunch or immediately after work.
FABULOUS! I am fresh to the area, and it so happens that my girlfriend made a hair appointment here. I decided to tag along since I haven't had a cut in a year. We arrived and the atmosphere was up to beat with cool music, sweet seating area, pleasant employees; the energy felt fantastic along with the owner made these delicious lemon cakes that were off the hook for the guests to eat! When I was getting my hair washed, I was the first customer to use their own homemade Miracles conditioner that smelled great and left my hair silky smooth. The stylist, Elie, gave me the best hair cut ever in my life! I felt like a whole new person that has been waiting to break out with a new fierce style to turn heads. This place I recommend to anyone who needs a new, sharp look. I had an AWESOME experience and will continue to go here if I need my hair or nails done. They even sell their own stylish jewelry!
I only went here to get my eyebrows threaded but the lady did a great job with that. Unfortunately, I come from Texas where I only have to pay $5 there and at Miracles I had to pay around $12-15 (can't remember which one it was). But, the lady did a good job and the place is near a metro so I can't complain TOO much. I'd definitely go back to get some other things done.
